I genuinely have no clue how anyone can remain subbed to that shitpile after Dawntrail. It wasn't great in the first place, due to all the other issues OP mentioned (class identity being slowly erased, pve being so fucking boring, story getting pretty shakey around Endwalker), but Dawntrail was like a full on spit in the face.
I could write essays about how much shit was wrong with Dawntrail, but it really does boil down to the following
story written by people who simply did not give a fuck; no interesting characters no interesting things for the player to do, nonsensical spectacle after nonsensical spectacle, zero internal consistency or even concern for what happened five minutes ago in the game and how it might mesh with things that happen later, etc (just one example; game goes out of its way to tell you a big bad monster you have to hunt down can make fire that never ceases burning. your party later helps burn victims who it attacked recover from a wound that should literally never stop burning until it kills them)
obviously shoving a trooncat down peoples' throats in a 80 hour escort quest was awful. Worse still was how Wuk Lamat was written like putrid dogshit and overexposure ensured that even people who she somehow appealed to got sick of her
one of the dumbest and most ridiculous villains (zarool ja) in the game's history, whose actions never, for even five minutes, made any kind of sense and were simply retroactively justified by the retarded devs who decided to give you a post-game epilogue where the dev's self insert literally explains that you'd be a fool to not think he was way deeper and more interesting than he is ever actually presented as being
the most obscene usage of emotional tear jerking in an utterly infantile effort by the writers to try to get you to feel something after spending all game in the sensory deprivation chamber that is 'playing' your part in Wuk Lamat's story (Living Memory)
The devs just don't give a fuck anymore
