Mega64

Total e-celeb death.

These guys have been around longer than you have been around anon, they're an exception

Based

They're 44 years old? They fucking look it. Time to die.

not surprised to be honest
been fans of theirs for a long time but they've only gotten lazier and pumped out less and less content over the years

they've also been reduced to plugging their merch every other day and rarely make videos anymore outside of their podcasts now.
mega64 has been dead for the last 5 or so years.
life goes on.

browsing.gif - 317x219, 786.73K

bruh who the fuck are these guys and why do you guys love them so much? are they some kind of AVGN lite or some shit? i've literally never heard of them outside of Anon Babble
and yet they haven't reached 1+ mil subs. sad!

FUCK YOU
MEGA64
4EVER

They've been pushing new comedy hard this year, YouTube has been fucking them over through the algorithm I think. Apparently they can't accept donations through normal channels anymore for 'reasons' or something, so it's sad to see them try so hard this year only to get fucked over like this. At least they can say they were friends with Kojima

Used to be the case that you could make fun little videos you wanted to on youtube

Youtube will actively fuck with you if you aren't making multiple hour long videos that are 90% dead air or if you aren't a big enough fag to know people directly at youtube

Discoverability is dead so your opportunities to actually reinvest in making funny internet videos is entirely dependent on google deciding you're a good enough shill

Options are become a soulless ghoul that lies to the people tricked into watching you as if it's all the fault of some unthinking unfeeling 'algorithm' which you are contractually obligated to lie to your viewers about or literally nobody gets to watch your videos

How ugly the internet is these days sickens me

youtube hasn't fucked them over, they're just a cult show.
I'm surprised they survived this long releasing a video that gets 50k views every two weeks.
things don't last forever, they were lucky to make it this far if it is the end.

Why are they so desperate for money suddenly? what changed??

Dude it's just natural for things to be like this

No it's not and fuck you for enabling it.

I guess they have been sustained by the 'internet soldiers' for a long time now so I definitely agree with your opinion to an extent, but let's not pretend that they just did the podcasts and nothing else. I definitely think the podcast has been on the decline ever since they left the old arcade set (I miss the old studio to be honest, they barely utilise the new one despite hyping it up initially) but they've been doing very high production streams like 64X, Hellfest, etc.for years. While they definitely weren't pumping out as many skits as people would have liked since like 2017 or so, this year has been very good in terms of output as I previously mentioned, and I'm sad to see them get rewarded with 10,000 views for content that is way better than the 'Japan YouTuber' shlock I keep seeing. YouTube genuinely hates skits that are even slightly edgy in my opinion.

Youtube will actively fuck with you if you aren't making multiple hour long videos that are 90% dead air

iirc all every content creator cares about to maximize money is to make the vid atleast 8 min long because at that point mid roll ads kicks in and basically doubles the videos income

except it literally is.
they're remembered fondly by old Internet users but no one under 25 has any fucking idea who mega64 are.
who knew making comedy skits about video games wouldn't be a viable business for life.

I2HCBbg.jpg - 247x204, 3.84K

They have been around nearly as long as AVGN, but their popularity basically stalled in the mid 2010s and they never could adapt to the times

Is this a parody of ebeggars or are they actually just flat out begging? They've mentioned "support" at DSP levels, but not what the issue is or why they deserve this "support"

but their popularity basically stalled in the mid 2010s

why?

All they really had to was make consistent content that wasn't their podcast. That Funny Factory shit didn't go over well, but they shouldn't have completely given up on the idea.

You revolting deceiver, is it not enough to see the humanity of the internet defiled but that you must mislead the future into thinking this was of natural cause?

Why aren't most lotto tickets prizes for millions of dollars?

go outside and have a cry loser

i don't think you can compare trying to winning the lottery to not "adapting" and basically being irrelevant to the youtube meta since the 2010's started

They got popular from doing skits that were basically pretending to be videogame characters in public to draw reactions. That eventually got old and they basically had no other content to fall back on besides their podcast, so the channel went under a slow death.

doing skits that were basically pretending to be videogame characters in public to draw reactions

...this is why they're so beloved on Anon Babble?

That eventually got old

yeah no kidding

they basically had no other content to fall back on besides their podcast

maybe they deserve to go under then

I'M CAPTAIN BASCH
don't listen to ondore's lies!

do i seem like someone that'd get that reference?

What? I assumed they'd all made retirement level money years and years ago. If you'd asked me I would've just assumed they only still did it because they enjoyed it. It's really cooking my noodle that apparently these last few years have been them actually trying to make the channel work as a business.

I stopped giving a fuck about them ever since their californian brainrot got unbearable back in 2020, Garrett is the only guy from the team that I really care about and I'd like to see PPS go independent

funny factory

I remember the controversy but have somehow memory holed the content itself, what actually was this again?

They fell off hard around 2015/2016
they had this total shadow-rebrand that sucked all the joy and integrity out of their atmosphere. they used to be fucking hilarious, and one day things went in a more tame, milquetoast direction. Maybe it was Erik leaving that did it, idk, but they've been on the way out for what feels like a decade. it's wild how long they were able to hold out.

get a real job

It was their plan to make videos somewhat daily, but the videos sucked so they just canceled the entire thing

Because they never really pivoted correctly. They had early popularity, but they never managed to capitalize on this in a significant way, and short form content is bad for revenue.

Their viewer base is getting older and less interested, they have no new viewers coming in.

Back then you didn't get much for ads, and they didn't put out videos often enough to be profitable. Merch sustained them for a long time, a few thousand paypigs can keep the lights on, but they're apparently down 81% on merch sales now, so it's over.

Pretty much. Garrett has always been the GOAT.

Pure, unadulterated evil

Erik leaving

He saw the writing on the wall. He's in the same situation as them thanks to RT ending anyway but at least that can be useful on his LinkedIn profile

They had other skits that were funny when I was younger and the podcast was great like a decade ago. They basically living off of merch and a small subset of diehard fans that grew up with them I guess.

Back then you didn't get much for ads

surely you could? youtube was a goldmine for everyone who knew what they were doing until pewdiepie caused the adpocalypse

Garrett will be fine, sad to see the dream end for him but I'm glad he got to live his dream for a few years. Solid guy, he deserves success
To be honest I soured on all the others except Kevin

They had other skits that were funny when I was younger and the podcast was great like a decade ago

sounds like there has been no point to them for a very long time at this point lul

They basically living off of merch and a small subset of diehard fans that grew up with them I guess.

that doesn't sound very sustainable. how much new limited edition merch could they be releasing that manchildren are buying in the thousands everytime lol

Mega64 NEVER DIES

the irony is that if they still did the early day outdoor vidya reaction shit, they could have easily broken 1 million because of how zoomers were obsessed with "jootube prankster"

instead they transitioned into shitty vidya skits, with the occasional sponsored content, which ultimately led to everyones favorite podcast

As someone who has been watching them since 2004, on their own website before youtube even existed, when they had to upload their videos to some realplayer format or whatever the fuck it was, have met them IRL multiple times at different conventions, I'm surprised this didn't happen a few years ago.
I haven't understood where they had the money to fund getting a new studio and barely putting out anything other than t-shirts and a fucking podcast, WHILE supporting 7 employees with multiple houses and families.
I'm not surprised to see them fumble, having their ass to the fire will either ensure they crank up their production of content or have them finally just pack it up and give it up.

do not ASK ME WHEN THE NEXT VIDEO IS COMING OUT I WILL NOT RESPOND

linkara.png - 1297x1212, 2.09M

why would you want them to give up?

scamming and bootlicking does not count.

At a certain point they decided to lean completely in the gay-theater-kid direction and it sucked all the fun out of the brand. I gave up on them back in like 2017, and their peak was like 2011.

mega64 is still a thing? these guys should have gave up a decade ago

It looks like they made a shitload of videos this year, and they're all hitting about 20k views because they're years late.

why?

They had connections with several artist friends, so their merch had cool designs that people wanted I suppose. They had a really diehard group fans, and were basically one of the first friend simulator groups that see today.

they could have easily broken 1 million because of how zoomers were obsessed with "jootube prankster"

could they tho? like everyone knows youtube pranksters are subhuman tier content and there's an endless amount of them. but literally no one knows about them unless it was like vitaly back in the day

Youtube now is different from youtube 10 years ago
Making video game parody sketches just isn't the same draw that it once was
And the youtube algorithm basically punishes you for putting out content with any kind of effort

I want them around for atleast the christmas cast and todd and aaron

They did. The last ten years have just been them refusing to leave and expecting people to pay them for making them smile a couple times in 2008.

can someone explain linkara to me? i have no idea why he's such a meme

phil sends his regards.

PhilBurnell.png - 360x360, 164.68K

all it takes to get the ball rolling is one tiktok with derrick wearing a toilet on his head chasing people yelling SKIBIDI

I haven't understood where they had the money to fund getting a new studio and barely putting out anything other than t-shirts and a fucking podcast, WHILE supporting 7 employees with multiple houses and families.

That does kind of stink. I never bought the "they sell lots of merch" thing.

bruh

Bump for the e-celeb :^)

He is just a super autistic relic from a bygone era of the internet

Reminder that their most watched videos are Dragon Ball spoofs. AND THEY ARE GREAT!

desu i'm omega allergic to watching autistic losers making a clwon of themselves on videos. just explain it to me

Good. They haven't been remotely watchable in years. Their time is long past over and it's long past time to pull the plug.

Their videos are simply not good. This is a consequence.

They made one video that was kind of funny for a few seconds 20 years ago.

eceleb thread but it's OK cause it's our guys

What are your guys favourite Mega 64 videos?

Mine's probably this
youtube.com/watch?v=vSyfGm6wXgs

Are we sure this isn't a DSP parody?

maxresdefault.jpg - 1280x720, 94.1K

videos that are made with a purposely low as fuck budget with common cheap items

also their most viewed videos and consistently performing videos in years

not realizing you should milk this and do more videos in this style

There should be a fucking Metal Gear Sweded series, Zelda sweded, fucking Mario 64 it DOESNT MATTER, how do you not see those millions of views and understand this is what you should have pivoted too now.

I told you. He's a pompous buffoon. There really isn't much to it beyond that. It's like asking why people clown on DSP.

start by reading his webcomic "The Lightbringer"

haven't made a funny video in over a decade

became a react podcast nobody watches

suddenly surprised it's not profitable

DSP FUCKING WON AGAIN!

hq720.jpg - 343x301, 27.08K

Mega64 are old goats but man they've been bland (besides Garrett) for years

This, if it's gonna be the last one they need to crack open the wine and get Shawn drunk on stream again
Nice way to do a full circle moment

Metal Gear Solid V was the last time I felt like mega64 was mega64. Its been a death gurgle since then

KING
OF
THE
HILL

rocco.jpg - 1920x1080, 270.56K

Have you ever watched the BTS videos for those things? They all act like doing any basic task is some herculean effort. No way they could make them at any regular pace.

can't accept donations due to "bad actors"

what did Garret do?

He smoked a joint on-screen.

People would donate thousands then chargeback

OLD GOOD NEW BAD

MY E-CELEB IS BETTER THAN YOU E-CELEB

kil lyourself balding 30yo faggot

Probably the same scenario as DSP where people track down their donators and harass them

Derrick is your average Anon Babble user: brown, whiny, and hates video games

chargeback scam

Just make a big finale, and move on.
Also you deserve it for voting Biden kek

youtu.be/nn3GzZgM_Y0

And the history of voltage vengerz

How ugly the internet is these days sickens me

Yes, but it pleases Lord Moloch, and He matters more than you.

sad day

Loved their dbz vids they did recently

And the history of voltage vengerz

When is the new episode of that coming out?

they had a good run, nothing lasts forever. This is a sign that its time to end.

Also you deserve it for voting Biden kek

They crashed their merchandise sales to save democracy, Mega64 are basically like um heroes.

mega autistic comicfag who cannot stand criticism or not being in control. Also got bused having a severe muppet porn fetish.

Uh oh! I guess those videos they made to own the chuds didn't end up attracting as much viewers as they hoped :/

DO NOT ASK ME WHEN THE NEXT EPISODE IS COMING OUT I WILL NOT RESPOND

Nokia! It truly is an ancient monster.

They made a video on the Stellar Blade shit acting like they are above it all. They shouldve died years ago.

someone post the pic of shawn and his kids kneeling for BLM on the sidewalk while wearing their covid masks
It's the funniest thing they've put out in over a decade

Don't want to see the boys fail but I don't know how they've stayed alive this long. They either don't understand or refuse to use basic things that would grow their brand, have a horrifically cluttered channel where 90% of the videos are 1+ hour long podcasts breaking up the content they're actually supposed to be known for and they have so little quality control in their merch because they chose a quantity over quality approach and wonder why sales are drying up. It just feels like they've mishandled every part of running a Youtube channel you possibly could. Even now what is the goal here? Beg the fans to keep them afloat with donations...forever? How are they going to turn their fortunes around. What's the gameplan? How much do they need, for how long to get back on track? What are the operation costs they need to meet? It's just a stream of them begging.

It does feel like they got too ambitious out of nowhere all of a sudden around 2018-2019. Why did they need to change sets? They haven't done jack with the new set that they couldn't have done in the old one, and it's not like they really do personal channel vids enough anymore to warrant that huge office-like space. At most the office has seen some extended use for 64X and in that one dogfucking skit they did with Garrett this year, but there is nothing really iconic about it. I still remember the personal channel vid of the boyz all playing Rock Band in the old set, good times.
Also hiring Johnny, Garrett, Meg etc... Well I'm not so sure about Meg (if she's full-time or not), but this was probably a bad move. It has been cool to see Garrett acknowledged as main cast but they haven't really used him that well since bringing him in full-time. Johnny is just Johnny, nice guy but he is just some guy, I don't like or dislike him. He's no Eric for sure
I hope they can pull off some miracle but it might be time to pack things up. Derrick has been unusually salty and bitchy on streams this year so I guess that all makes sense now, guy was probably all worked up over this decline

Their Sweded videos are still some of the best content on youtube
I'll always fucking DIE whenever I see Cell with the basketball

No they don't. They look mid 30s at most.

t. 37 year old who actually looks mid 40s

Did Shawn get that vasectomy as some kind of meta beta male joke? Why does he embody that energy so much now when he used to be the attractive/boyish charm one back in the day.

It'll be out when it's out, and we like that.

hit a little too close to home huh

Rocco as Gendo and Mariel as Yuki/Rei

kojimber.png - 262x255, 127.32K

Rocco is a fomo-addicted manchild

had idea to based business model around FOMO-based merch drops

don't do quality control on said merch

sales from 80%+

GEE I WONDER WHY

I feel kind of bad for them because the internet fucking sucks now and they're still trying to play the old game, they haven't kept up with the brainrot meta of tiktok and youtube shorts

CARTWRIIIIIIIIIIIGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT THIIIIIGGGGGGHHHHHHHHSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!

People have been begging these guys to get the podcast off the main channel and adjust to modern youtube. They've had like ten years to either push out more videos than the 2 a year they've been doing or network with industry people. I'll miss these guys but they've been shit for years and they have nobody to blame but their own hubris.

sales drop 80%+*

Right now it seems like they're just panicking because they've realised the gravy train has run out and they're completely up shit creek, this is just a "we need money to keep the lights on until Christmas" stream with no real further thought. Maybe it'll pay off, but next time it might not, and eventually their few remaining fans will get bored with it.

Derrick seems like the guy pushing a lot of the business decisions this year that have caused their dwindling fanbase to drop off to nothing.

severe muppet porn fetish

haha WHAT?

Garrett on stream

Best boy coming through, he WILL save the company.

I wonder how that patreon Vinny, Brad and Alex from Giant Bomb is doing. I assume Jeff's is doing well enough for a solo venture but I dunno how many mouths the rest of those guys have to feed.

I want to marry Mariel so much bros...

Might serve as a good belated 20th anniversary special too, like that Sequence Erase thing they did in 2013. That shit might be a little goofy and cringeworthy now but it really does feel like it was from a simpler time. The boys (particularly Derrick) just seem jaded and watered-down now, or rather beaten down by the passage of time.
Based he's literally me

For a modern M64 sketch this was pretty funny

youtu.be/sngOHeuDlC8

Oh Mega64, that group that did funny videos dressed up as videogame characters and be all "Tetris but REAL LIFE"

Check channel

Over 4 years since they did the last one

That was done on a whim and the one before that was 7 years ago

Yeah, no wonder they are struggling when they do one video every 4 years.

His old Lightbringer comic website used one of his old usernames, and people found on some fetish forums he had an account (which also linked Lightbringer in its signature), and he was engaging in muppet sex RP.

I wonder how that patreon Vinny, Brad and Alex from Giant Bomb is doing

Not having to pay for an office probably makes it viable, pretty sure the reason Mega64 is on the brink of dying right now is because they decided to have a studio in fucking San Diego

I want to marry Mariel so much bros...

Remember a few years ago when some random girl tried to cancel Rocco?

Shitting on and ignoring their fans has been a bit for years. Hard not to take some level of schadenfraude seeing that come back to bite them in the ass as they scramble to make all the suggested changes when it's already too late.

who knew making comedy skits about video games wouldn't be a viable business for life.

We'll never know because they stopped making them regular like a decade ago.

3300 members

Lowest tier is ~$5 USD

Low end is $16500/month

???

m64.png - 1345x1191, 381.78K

The one where derrick says a bunch of pizza workers at pax should be shot for real and upsets shawn makes me laugh.
also the "what happened at 911 was a tradegy" and "shibo of the Caribbean (in reference to a disabled lady on the pirates of the Caribbean ride)" from rocco.
early mega64 couldn't be beat.

7 salaries and a studio

You just know he wanted to go balls deep in her. Do you think he knew about her fucked up manipulation/harassment of an autistic guy, where she went full psycho mode? I tell you, these hapas be crazy
Rocco definitely has that yellow fever

i haven't watched any of their stuff for years except todd and aaron
what do they even do nowadays

Watching Garrett play MGSV for the 100th time was kino

They over-expanded like retards and they don't have the balls to inform the multiple friends they hired that it's not working. Similar shit happened to Rooster Teeth.

i'm tired of pretending the gollum mukbang video wasn't kino

fuckin shit, that guy's life must be miserable if the mega64 podcast is his "weekly highlight"

file.png - 727x94, 11.57K

I don't even know how many of their fans know Shakespeare theatre started shitting on people who had legitimate concerns over outright stopping in public skits

Patreon takes like 5% of any income.
But also this, they have a way bigger studio now and like 7 people working for them. Too much in too little time.

That's good for one guy who does everything out of his house. Not good for running a business with multiple employees.

at least on my patreon, that also includes "free members". people think im making 6 digits while im not even making 4

I mean, I used to like them 20 fucking years ago but do they do anything at all now besides the end of the year awards thing?

Mega64 is Rocco, Derrick and Shawn.
Anyone else can take a hike.

I think all the covid streams taught the smart ones how cheap and easy it was just to do what they've been doing from home. Yeah it's better having everyone in the same room but it's not commercial leasing better. If you have to do that build a basement studio in someone's house and live in the same town.

Garrett is responsible for the only relevant videos they've had in 10 years

Forgetting about Fruitsnax

They're all leftwingers who live in deep San Francisco
They're broke as fuck lol

The last one they did was literally this year anon
Plumbers Don't Wear Ties, it was great

Rocco decided to be a fat piece of shit so fuck him.

It's weird how so many people even big hollywood names thought that the covid boom would last forever and would never dry up once people had other shit they could do again. Guess I shouldn't expect much from people in entertainment though.

When did you notice? The first video?

It's funny because they scrubbed it from the internet. There were four series from what I remember.

Friendimension

The group would play party games. Was alright, but awkward and they would do face cam trying to jam like 6 - 8 people into a frame.

Shanime

This was just Shawn reacting to anime. You were expected to pull up the episode and play his commentary along with it. It was bad. Just him going like "wow this is weird" or "why does this guy have a big sword"

Blind Box

Rocco shows off his figure collection. This is just those videos he makes on his personal channel except you get to pay for them now

Web Rip

This one had Derrick reacting to online videos. They choose to record the videos off of an old monitor and it was hard to see plus it was just boring

All in all it was a disaster. They got a ton of negative feedback and basically took everything down and hid it all behind their paywall because they didn't realize that only their paypigs eat that crap up. I stopped following them after that. I see now they make videos with Hbomberguy about how people who like Stellar Blade are incels and I am glad they're dead.

Don’t these “guys” kneel for BLM and troons

Rocco looks tired but overall the same

Derrick hasn't aged a day

Sean is an old man

marriage was a mistake

Another woke group of faggots dies.
Based day

Derrick seems like the only one who knew what needed to be done to turn things around, just a shame his efforts haven't been rewarded
He was bitching about the podcast shitting up the main channel and diverting time and energy from skits for years, that's why he was so grumpy and why he disappeared from the podcast for months this year. Honestly he's the only one who seems to have tried to save the sinking ship

I uploaded a video on youtube last week because making a webm crunched the colors too much. It's just a 39 seconds video with some video effect I wanted to show to someone on Anon Babble. No audio or anything. I know it's not a lot, but I already have 230 views. Everything is relative, I have multiple +100k views on other videos, but I feel like 200 is a lot for something I made as a throwaway. If it gets to 1000 views by the end of next week, I might make a tutorial and see where it goes. Just to find something new to do (and maybe promote my music)

Lest we forget Garrett aging like a vampire

their shtick is buying a cheap costume and wandering around public for reactions

their other shtick is sitting around a table talking for an hour

what about all this is causing them to hemorrhage thousands of dollars per month?

we made some popular videos 15 years ago so we deserve to make a living off you for the rest of our lives

nah

now they make videos with Hbomberguy about how people who like Stellar Blade are incels

lol, c'mon that didn't really happen, right?

Rocco is a borderline game journo. Bury mega64

Ah shit I remember Friendimension and Shanime, Shanime was kind of funny to start off with but lost its charm quickly. I guess the Blond Box thing was just Figure Update but main channel like you alluded to, and the last one just sounds retarded so not surprised I forgot about it

I hope shawn finally tells the fingerbang story on the final podcast

now they make videos with Hbomberguy about how people who like Stellar Blade are incels

lol wtf?

They never managed to pivot to the modern youtube meta and on top of that made the same mistake that a lot of youtube """personalities"""" make and thought people liked them for them and not because they were being clowns in public. They also invested heavily into a new studio then did nothing with it and hired all their friends.

Honestly it's impressive they've managed to live this long.

I remember that period like a decade ago where Derrick kept on harping about getting the channel to a million subs. The other guys obviously didn't get fuck and now they reaping what they sowed.

For comparison, does anybody know how much do the guys at RLM make off their Youtube and Patreon these days?

Mecha is the only one still trekking after all these years

mecha.png - 393x343, 218.94K

They've been anti sexy games since doa5
