This game is 100x harder than SF6's ranked. SF6 will let you into the highest rank with a 45% win rate. Meanwhile this game will pull some shit where you win 5 games in a row and get 50 points then lose a single game and lose 20 or 30. Also the player base in general is so competent where if you are a scrub you are in the minority.

I'll answer for him. The size of the characters and the size of the stages already screams Ultimate more than it does PM or Melee. The (current) lack of truly effective edgeguarding combined with infinite recoveries also screams Ultimate more than it does PM or Melee. Additionally, though not truly important to the game, the freeze frame on the confirmed death screen is very reminscent of Ultimate.
This game is just Ultimate with PM tech and Rivals 1 characters.

In top level Ultimate it's entirely ledgetrapping but in Rivals 2 even Plats can do proper edgeguards

It's not autistic. Basically some characters have higher dash/ground speed than the air speed (most notable with ranno) so you just keep your ground momentum by doing it. I don't know why the article makes it sound more complicated than that and just say "moonwalking and dashing keep your ground momentum". Moonwalking into it is a little better on some chars depending on their dash properties

Could be particularly strong on characters with strong bairs like Fors and Orcane. I'm so used to melee where that technique is completely useless.

The dev video calls him a "glasscannon" but he feels weaker than EVERY other character in the game in both survivability and potential damage
I get that he is supposed to be "combo heavy" but that just makes him feel like he has to work 3x harder than any other character in the game to get a kill with his only saving grace being his better recovery thanks to his 3rd jumps and 2 vertical specials. I get why no one fucking plays him.

I don't play Melee I just think the game could be more fun if the pacing was centered more around the stage. Watching people take their time and come back to stage with all their stalling options gets annoying. Melee has a bunch of stupidly easy to edgeguard recoveries, and I would prefer if Rivals 2 characters had all the same mixups just that they covered less distance so people couldn't recover from so far away.

Rivals 2's story mode would have been like this, but its Lickstarter goal wasn't met and since the engine for it was also used for tutorials, that went along with it. I think if they had the resources to make unique break the targets stages for each character though, they probably could've done SOMETHING relatively simple.
At the very least I think all of the infographics, video tutorials and wiki resources they made are serviceable, people just don't want to leave the game to see them or read. (Reading is the important one there)

I think the reason that Clairen pisses people off is that she isn't interactive in the way that other characters are. Contrast her with other characters.

His gimmick is the bubble and tongue slingshot, but there's counterplay to the both: You can hit the bubble to disrupt his recovery, you can avoid it if he summons it in neutral, and his tongue is extremely punishable whether it whiffs or your predict the direction of his slingshot. Trapping Ranno in his own bubble also FEELS good as the other player.
Orcane
His gimmicks are his puddle and bubbles, but there's counterplay to both. Bubbles can be parried to leave Orcane in hitstun unlike other projectiles. His puddle can be avoided if he isn't repeatedly replacing it. If he is replacing it, you can block the projectile to prevent it from being placed. Punishing him when he recovers to the puddle also FEELS good as the other player.
In contrast, Clairen's gimmick doesn't do anything unique. It just makes her play neutral like a fucking pussy and have a slightly easier punish game when she wins neutral interactions. There is no meaningful drawback to the tipper, because even if she hits a sour spot she'll still hit you with another jab, another dtilt, another fair, another nair, cross-up utilt out of sour spot nair, etc. There is nothing you can actively do in the Clairen MU that makes you feel like you're denying the character what they want to do, which you can't say for most of the MUs in the game.

Stage selection used to be an interesting part of the game over on the Smash Bros side... but that was years and years ago, when the common 'legal' stagelists weren't neutered to the state they exist in now. Like boo hoo, some characters get a small advantage from blastzone distances or a platform existing at a certain height, big fucking deal. It does not compare to stage hazards and straight up vertical walls or slopes, etc., all of which have been tossed out by the common denominator competitive player.
