Which SMT game do you guys recommend for a newcomer like me?

nocturne

Vengeance

still SMT1, 2 and If... port

still no SMT4 remake

the 2 games in 4 and strange journey
both of them have actual secrets to the false history narrative we are taught

IV, IVA, SJ and maybe Nocturne.
Don't trust anyone who says Vengeance, the game is shit and people here in Anon Babble defend that disgrace of a game because they paid for the same shit twice

no IF protags and SJ protag

Vengeance>SJ>Nocturne>IVA>>>IV

Strange Journey is disclosure about Antarctica
Admiral Byrd's Journal

Smt2, 3, 4 and sj are the only good ones

worst characters, story and dungeons in the franchise but if I pay twice for the same shit it'll become good right?

but muh gameplay

IVA still has better gameplay
There's no objective reason for anyone to defend Vengeance, the game is inferior in every single way compared to its predecessors

No reason not to start with 1 and 2.

They're pretty accessible because the franchise has utilized the same mechanics from the start, so in general they still play the same, as new games.
They're also the best ones, by far even

SNES, GBA or PSX, your choice.

The only thing is maybe keep an online map ready, because especially 1 can get very labyrinthine at times. And get a demon that reduces encounter rate, which is also insane in 1(in my opinion at least)

people now actually say IV was good

The sequel curse strikes again. Do when vi comes out y'all also think V wasn't as bad huh? Embarrassing....

IV
It's the easiest.

both of them have actual secrets to the false history narrative we are taught

what do you mean by this, anon? i don't mind spoilers, please elaborate more

worst characters, story

That's IVa

Worst dungeons

That's IV

Also while IVA has good gameplay, VV has better gameplay without the completely awful Persona narrative of IVA attached to it.

y'all

Eat my ass, Trailstard.

People here on Anon Babble already say Vengeance is super good lmao, just look in this thread.

That's IVa

I'd say it's the second worst

That's IV

Disagree, I think it's probably the third worst (maybe second)

Thoughts on starting with the first SMT game?

I've done it at least, no regrets

I did it. Didn't even know SMT was a series beyond SMT and SMT2 at the time.
Was an unforgettable experience.

Digital Devil Saga

It's an alright experience. Have fun :D

Doesn't really matter, Nocturne and IV are solid choices. SJ if you like first person dungeon crawlers.
1 and 2 only if you like retro dungeon crawlers.
Vengeance is only getting recommended by secondaries who just discovered the series.

this Anon gets it, very based.

You can work your way backwards. If you want an easier time get the remasters of any old games too, like for Nocturne get Nocturne HD for voice acting and being able to choose skill inheritance (a big quality of life improvement). Just play 4 before 4 Apocalypse because 4 Apocalypse takes place as a what if scenario but at 80% into 4’s plot and it will retroactively spoil most of 4’s plot. Also after Nocturne try Digital Devil Saga games, they were made at a similar time to Nocturne (has the same PS2 style and dungeon and demon design) and they go well together. Raidou is another good PS2 SMT spinoff that is a fun hack and slash game instead of turnbased, Raidou 1 is very barebones but 2 fixes all of 1’s issues.

cant stand this game honestly

Alright, thanks. I'll probably give it a try after finishing up Wizardry1-3. It sounds like a better time than listening to people bitch about how good SMTIV is compared to SMTV.

Strange journey

Megaten fans are especially annoying about getting into inflammatory slapfights about "my favorite entry better than yours" I recommend just playing without interacting with the community and reading up on the real mythological inspirations.

Akira route is basically a NewGame+ story mode and you have to tell everyone else to fuck off and stick with Akira.

Did you ever notice between different years in elementary, middle, and high school that there were so many inconsistencies presented as fact in your textbooks?
The Egyptians, Greeks, Phoenicians, and Romans have never had their story straight. Why are so many outright lies taught about American history?
We already are a civilization that *discovers* ancient civilizations that seemed to be similar to and in some ways probably more advanced. We forgot how to build the architecture that Freemasons claim to have *founded* (not built)?

Strange beasts and monsters, vast riches, hidden treasures, evil haunts, uncharted frontiers, the mysterious unknown...

if those things captivate you then you should try researching esoteric/ freemasonic symbols or checking out CG Jung's Man and His Symbols while simultaneously playing SMT 4 and Strange Journey.

It's easier to direct you to Anon Babble to check out the occult truth seekers there. Avoid the succugen and other coomer threads /SRG/ has very enlightening advise... /nobodygen/ is worth checking out at least one time so you know what it is when others talk about it.

Anon Babble schizo who thinks that elementary history lessons is the 100% detailed understanding of historical events and believes that we couldn't build a pyramid because someone on twitter said so

Alright then.

Hope you're having fun over on Anon Babble anyway.

oh, and make sure you install 4chanx scripts to see posts that get deleted and better notice when posts start appearing out of order...
Maybe BEN is a real thing... Maybe we should all do fasting for 3 days consecutively like the parasite general says...

annnnd the brigade has entered the thread.

Vengeance with SMTVFix. Nocturne HD is fucked up and the rest requires either physical or emulation.

IV was always good. What are you on?

because Ben Carson said so

Inspire

SMT IV & SMT IVA is the most approachable to newfag. Fags that say Nocturne forget that the story is extremely sparse at the beginning, which isn't exactly welcoming to a newcomer.
