DINGALING COCKSUCKER

Does he get guns?

Think they’ll finally do Sonic Adventuee 3 after this? It’s the perfect time now that the younger generations are caught up with Shadow’s lore

Will he produce another shadow if he got jacked off

I can do anything, I'm the devil! Did you forget that? I'm The Devil! Like, from Bible! I have a- How have I not impressed that upon you yet? I'm all powerful! I rule over all of hell!

why are people forgetting this a fucking 2011 game?

It is, but it was already a really good Sonic Game. Now you have the Shadow stuff on top. This could make it the best Sonic game overall

Just hand lasers from his mutated alien DNA. But Omega thinks it counts.

GIGACHAD SPACE COLONY

Why is it a generations game if there's no classic shadow?

lol no

Reminder that the initial intention behind SA2’s plot (before retcons and writer shuffling) was that Sonic was the one on the Ark with Maria, and Shadow was made in his image on Prison Island and implanted with false memories.

SA2 is better.

Because Shadow is a timeless character.

I know the part about Shadow never actually being on the ARK, but this is the first I've heard about Sonic and Maria.

It's new and therefore bad

Think about it, if shadow was never on the ark, who was the person originally shot out of the ark to begin with?

different VAs

different writing style

probably different gameplay

likely reusing Frontiers character controller

downgraded or no chao garden

It would probably make more business sense to do some shitty remakes of SA1 and 2 first so appropriate expectations are s3t

They could just shove chao garden in the open zones

I just figured that would have been a memory Gerald completely made up to give Shadow the motivation to avenge Maria.

it's new

It's literally generations plus some DLC levels.

Maria has a similar color scheme to Sonic. Sonic mimics her final words to ‘Shadow’ when he leaves the Ark at the end of SA2B. His entire ethos is basically exactly what Maria asked ‘Shadow’ to do. Both are hedgehogs capable of utilizing chaos energy intuitively. Shadow calls him the ultimate life form during the Finalhazard fight.

Yes, my only problem is the lack of a Shadow The Hedgehog level and no Infinite boss fight

tried controlling Shadow in Shadow 05

couldn't

says in this game he learned from his mistakes last time

plan hinges on trying to control Shadow again

fails

why is he so dumb?

You keep asking that every time a new sonic game releases, Maybe it's time to just accept the fact that Sonic was always good.

directly inspires the best 3D Sonic in ages

You're welcome, wahoo!

bowser's fury.jpg - 1280x720, 169.84K

I'm not. I've only played the Sonic part so far and there's a lot to criticize.

it's literally just as long as generations and it's a new game

noooo1!! you have to hate it because they made a few stupid cutscene changes that totally ruin it!!!!!11!!!

some brazilians' OC saved sonic from itself

Based

Fuck off, you obsessed tranny

obsessed with what? I'm tired of the bullshit complaints this game is getting.

sonic 06 was sonic adventure 3 and ubleashed was adventure 4
b...but no chao garden
fuck off.

In 05 he "controlled" Shadow by just asking him to do what he says and assuming that since Shadow came from him he'd have unwavering loyalty to him.
Here he's just going for mind control.

Sa2 is 80% trash. Shadow the hedgehog is the best 3d sonic.

Nigger, YOU brought it up. stop being retarded

I've seen a few reviews and they all lament the lack of Chao Garden, why are Sonic autists so obsessed with that glorified tamagotchi?

Still waiting on my fucking JAM skin.

Did sonic eat shadow too?

No, he was stuffed full after eating the rest of Angel Island.

fuck off

I got my code (PC) inside that very e-mail, he should check inside it too.

Ah I'm not in the US, forgot about that stipulation. Thanks for sharing though.

This time he baited Shadow into attacking him so he could infect him with Doom Juice that would overpower Shadow's will.

Laughing at herself for giving Shadow a sappy motivational speech

She's not saying she's acting like a simp.

We can only hope anon.

Why does he like Radical Highway so much?

Sonic 06 was "Adventure 3".

and they all lament the lack of Chao Garden

to be fair they kinda implied there would be one when the game first was announced. the lack of one IS a criticism.

Chao Gardenbros when is it our turn?

Honestly I would settle for SA2 on Switch.

SA2 with SA1 style hub worlds

Because it is radical.

Too based for this world.

Except they messed up the original game. It has bad load times and is buggier than the original. I'm also not a fan of the dialogue changes but that's less of a problem

Because it is rad

Why are they like this?

Iizuka mentioned he would need a big budget for Adventure 3, you also need to make sure Sonic Team are confident enough to attempt it

This is the stupidest shit they’ve ever done just to coast off it being the year of shadow

That would be so kickass

IMG_9513.jpg - 960x960, 92.47K

You can't do that because of the way the story is structured
How could you with a Hub World go from City Escape, to Metal Island, to Green Forest, to the Pyramids?
Would break the flow of the plot

For people who can't be bothered to look it up even at this point, Shadow Generations is about as long as Sonic Generations, but with some differences:

The hub is a smaller version of the 3D open worlds from Sonic Frontiers

You unlock new abilities as you progress through the game

Art, music, and lore are collected from chests that are unlocked using keys found in the game's stages

One of the unlockables is a recreation of Gerald's journal that goes deeper into the history around Shadow's creation

Characters you meet are Omega, Orbot & Cubot, Big, Rouge, and past versions of Maria & Gerald, but they offer nothing gameplay-wise

There are no rival battles; Shadow's fight with Sonic happens in a cutscene and is only playable in Sonic Generations

Because of time travel shenanigans, stages based on games that came out after Sonic Generations also appear

There will be a DLC stage based on the Sonic 3 movie, where Shadow will have his movie design and the voice of Keanu Reeves

Stages

Space Colony ARK (Sonic Adventure 2)

Rail Canyon (Sonic Heroes)

Kingdom Valley (Sonic '06)

Sunset Heights (Sonic Forces)

Chaos Island (Sonic Frontiers)

Final Stage: Radical Highway (Sonic Adventure 2)

Bosses

The Biolizard (Sonic Adventure 2)

Metal Overlord (Sonic Heroes)

Mephiles (Sonic '06)

Final Boss: Devil Doom/Neo Devil Doom (Shadow the Hedgehog)

You sheep know this is censored, right??

Technically it's two games, and only one was censored.

Beginning to wonder if i should add censored to my filter. I've already gotten great milage out of filtering chud

He did the mind control thing in 05 too, it took a single little speech from Gerald's recording for Shadow to shake it off.

>One of the unlockables is a recreation of Gerald's journal that goes deeper into the history around Shadow's creation

And there's a physical version too if you got the day one edition. Scan the barcode on the back.

Super Knuckles was red. At his darkest point (no glow) he was the normal red, while at his brightest point (max glow) he looked pink. To say that Super Knuckles is pink because of this would be the same as saying Super Sonic is white because of how he looks at max glow. Hyper Knuckles is the same; he's literally the same as Super Knuckles except he creates after-images when he moves.

Super Shadow was silver in the beta, but he was a lighter shade of gold in the final version.

Super Knuckles can't fly. This is likely the reason why Super Sonic gave them bubbles in Sonic Heroes. He has to carry them with his power.

Super Knuckles is inferior to Super Sonic. Super Shadow is fool's gold (false gold) while Super Sonic is true gold.

Ironic shitposting is still shitposting.

No, that came out 26 years ago.

Sometimes threads deserve to be responded to with shitposting.

It's the city where Shadow killed him.

I just don't have anything.

Why does everyone suck off SA2 when 2/3rds of the game is dogshit and shadow gets the least amount of stages?

I just finished it, great stuff though it feels like there's one stage missing in the part where you unlock Chaos Island.

Question about the cleanup, are all the White Space chests available outside the Doom Zone event? I'm missing 12 which seems like a lot with how thorough I feel like I've been.

Will frontiers 2 have CHADow now? It's the only way I buy that slop BOTW rip off.

I literally cannot stand Sonic "fans" like you. Adventure 3 does not exist yet, and no coping argument will ever vindicate you.

It's Sonic Adventure 2, not Shadow Adventure 2.

this. literally only like 40% of the game is good, nobody wants to play as fucking tails or eggman in a robot or do an easter egg hunt.

What happens if you scan it?

It says "They don't know" I have no clue, doesn't link to anything.

Come to think of it, Black Doom probably would have won if he didn't fucking give Shadow his powers. Shadow doesn't have all the Chaos Emeralds and he probably would have needed to go Super to beat Black Doom otherwise. I can't imagine Black Doom would go down as easily as Perfect Chaos or Metal Overlord.

No, but it's still pretty good

sonic tier.png - 1008x729, 550.51K

Why in the fuck is Sonic and the Black Knight a whole two tiers higher than Secret Rings?

Well you see the track for that stage is called "Vengeance Will be Mine" so that's Black Doom just repeatedly declaring his desire for revenge against Shadow

I dont like the Radical Highway remix.
It sounds in the background, like it's building up to a part that never actually happens.

Sonic Heroes and Shadow the Hedgehog otherwise this is an OK list.

Seeing Sonic punch things always feels odd to me. For some reason I always have it in my head that Sonic should fight exclusively with his feet.

Because it's a significantly better game across the board

Can use an analog stick to move

Can press a button to homing attack

Less gimmick levels

Better story

Better cutscene presentation

Has multiple playable characters

Better story

Eh. Sonic's way cooler in Secret Rings though.

Most of it is just regurgitated stuff but I really want to know what Ian was getting at with the Archeologist son shit. Is he trying to bring those explorers from Adventure into the greater canon?

Wrong

Best Sonic Team, Sonic game since Generations, yeah.
Sonic Mania is the best Sonic game of the past 20 years though.

But don't get your hopes up too high.
I permanently lost faith in Sonic Team after they somehow, some way, managed to cock up Sonic Origins.
A collection of which 3/4 of the remasters are already PERFECT as is, and the last 1/4 they just need to hire Studio Headcanon and give them enough time to develop.

Instead they rushed it out and somehow added bugs to the original 3 (1, 2, and CD) that weren't there, and aren't there in the fan PC ports derived from decompiled code, not even the source code.
If they can mess up something as simple as that, such a surefire slam dunk, they can and will mess up anything.

I reckon it was to tie into why Gerald designed the ARK's core to look like the shrine of the Master Emerald, and his research of ancient entities and technology such as Chaos, Emerl, and the Ifrit from Sonic Rivals 2.

At best we're exactly where we were in 2011 when Gens first came out

Sweet, now they finally have a gameplay style that is fun and people like

Now they just have to do it with original levels

Exactly, and that's kind of depressing, isn't it?
13 years since Sonic Generations and all we've got inbetween then and now is Sonic Mania and a deluge of mediocre to trash games, and Mania wasn't even made by Sonic Team.

13 years prior to Generations, Sonic Adventure wasn't even out yet.
13 years of Sonic Team, wasted.

It makes playing Generations bittersweet everytime I play it, because the future looked so bright, and yet they did absolutely nothing with it.

cathartic beating this fucker down

Enjoy your future

I like Shadows Generations, but does anyone else think visually, the environments just look objectively worse compared to Sonic Generations?
What happened?

Everything looks so flat and empty.
Comparing Space Colony Ark vs Shadow in Sonic Generations to the Space Colony Ark in Shadow Generations, I can kinda see what I don't like visually.

I guess It's mainly lighting changes.

I'm just now realizing this came out on Switch, so maybe that explains it? I hope the next Sonic game targets Switch 2 only, and not the Switch itself. And I will say, this game looks good for a Switch game, undoubtedly.
One thing that sucks about current gen games in general, is that there's so few games that target current gen hardware.

SA2 exists and I don't find boost gameplay fun, so doubtful

That said Shadow Gens looks like the least bad boost gameplay i've seen so far, and if you're somebody who actually likes boost gameplay I could easily see SxS gens being the best title in the series

06 isn't any more SA3 then Heroes or arguably even Shadow is. If anything, 06 is SA5

I'm open to the idea but i'd really rather not have a hub and just have more actual stages instead, especially given how SA2's gameplay functions.

when 2/3rds of the game is dogshit

No.

The only truly bad stage is Mad Space, maybe Eternal Engine or Crazy Gadget. Stuff like Aquatic Mine, Death Chamber, Egg Quarter, and Security Hall might be flawed, but I wouldn't call them actually bad, let alone shit, just subpar. Meanwhile, Dry Lagoon, Mission Street, Lost Colony, Sand Ocean, Hidden Base, Iron Gate and Prison Lane (and I guess the kart missions) are all medicore but inoffensive to pretty decent: not really flawed but not particularly good either, though arguably some just manage that.

Then your actually good to great stages are Wild Canyon, Weapons Bed, Sky Rail, Final Chase, arguably Final Rush, and then there's a bunch of outright amazing stages like City Escape, Green Forest, Metal Harbor, Pumpkin Hill, Meteor Herd, Cosmic Wall, Radical Highway, and White Jungle.

it's not 33% good, 66% shit; it's like 7% actually bad, 13% flawed but still fine, 30% pretty decent, 20% good to great, and 30% amazing. That shit averages out a "Good, bordering on Great", and that's before you even get into the Chao garden, the multiplayer modes, the extra challenge missions, etc. And honestly even in the flawed stages I find the sheer act of controlling Sonic, Shadow, Knuckles, and Rouge to be satisfying enough that I have more fun in them then in some of the better stages in other platformers

Nah, they have it about right

Mass exodus of the staff from Sonic Team, particularly those who worked on Unleashed through Generations. Many of their names cropped up in the credits Mario Odyssey and BotW.

Switch

Unleashed and Sonic Generations came out on Xbox 360 and PS3. It's an art direction issue

Many of their names cropped up in the credits Mario Odyssey and BotW.

I heard about that, but it seems a lot of people in key roles for Generations are still at Sonic Team, are there any specific roles that are noteworthy for having jumped ship?

Odds it goes on sale during Black Friday?

you forgot green hill zone

there are 2 chests in the doom zone radical highway section. some chests are hidden in the boxes you gotta break em

100%. But don't expect any more than 20% off.
Sega tends to have dev teams release most Sonic games around this time to maximize Chrismas sales.

both of them sound good. i like them better than the original and they do get a buildup to something

Battle Mode and Chao Garden.

I disagree, Sonic Generations always looked so ugly to me. Chemical Plant and Crisis City are such eye sores. With Green Hill,Sky Sanctuary and Seaside Hill being the only stages I can comfortably say look nice. All of shadow's stages look better and I appreciate not every stage being so happy and cheery like sonic's especially at the climax

Because actually only 1/3 of the game is dogshit you philistine

You can always judge a sonicfan based on how they rank sonic cd, sonic heros, and sonic colors. You ranked them correctly btw

I tried it
it's just not fun moving in a straight line start to finish, with button mash/QTE cutscenes

Reminder that CHADow the ULTIMATE LIFE FORM was also born there. Planetkeks, ayy virgins and disgusting black creatures stay losing

Shadow Gens slows down boost a lot, so if you liked Sonic Gens and especially Unleashed, it can feel disappointing. Shadow is just way slower than Sonic.

The "poached by Nintendo" is overstated but there are some notable absences.

Makoto Yonezu, lead environmental artist for Sonic Unleashed, left for Nintendo in 2009 ultimately becoming lead terrain artist for BotW.

Yoshihisa Hashimoto, lead architect of the Hedgehog Engine, Unleashed's director and lead game/level designer, previously lead programmer of the Chao Gardens, left for Square Enix and has since moved on from there as well.

Masayuki Inoue, one of Unleashed's level designers, previously did similar work on Sonic 06, and later on Generations.

Takayuki Okada, another level designer, had previously done such work on Secret Rings, and later on Colors, Generations, and Lost World.

Yoshinobu Uba, the lead level designer for Generations, worked as "system designer" on Lost World then disappeared.

13 YEARS FUCK ME it has been that long?

I don't want to be in my 40s before I get another good game :(

It doesn't feel like it, right?
It just feels so wrong. I played Sonic Generations the day it released, 13 years felt like a LONG time then, but I was also, literally only 12. Sonic went from Sonic Adventure to Generations in my lifespan up to that point, which is a big leap.

In the 13 years since, it went from Boost Gameplay in Generations, to slightly better Boost Gameplay in Shadow Generations, with a whole bunch of blunders and nothingness inbetween.
Sonic is such an insanely inconsistent franchise.

before I get another good game :(

SOON god pls

Because we're not talking about Sonic Generations. We're talking about Shadow Generations, the new, superior game.

I miss the soul of the early-mid 7th generation. I mean the gameplay of that era was mostly in the gutter, but I thought the Sonic from those days was the coolest. He was a real hero in those days, a bona fide embodiment of charisma.

I haven't ever 100%d SA2

the only boost games i've played are the original generations and colors and I got bored with both a few hours in, same with every time I try to go back to them

The issue for me isn't speed, I think, it's responsiveness and agency over controlling Sonic and the how railroaded and scripted the level design is and your movement through/across the level. Like, the speed stages in SA2 are pretty linear too, but you have a lot of freeform, and highly responsive control over Sonic and Shadow within that linear stage design. Generations and colors feels more like I'm piloting or steering a character rather then directly controlling them, or are playing a giant level long QTE with extra steps.

Sonic Generations does have branching paths but the game's more about snap decisions. In general, Sonic does not reward hesitation or backtracking. It forces you to commit to every decision. Because if you try to go on another path after starting on one, you're just wasting time. The game was very deliberately designed around Sonic's movement. And at any rate, this is true of all Sonic games, even Shadow Generations. It's ALWAYS better to commit to your current path.

Unleashed was more about obstacles and reflexes. It's the hardest game of the boost era. Not as many branching pathways, but more about forcing you to get good. You need to earn that S-rank.

Shadow Gens feels slower and easier overall.

It's still a boost game with wonky physics.

I mean, outside of Final Rush the Speed stages in SA2 don't have many alternate paths either (though I do think FInal rush actually benefits a lot from said alt paths)

Again, it's less about linearity and more about the control/agency over Sonic and Shadow's movement, which alternate paths CAN help with in that they provide more desisions for you to make, but it's not the main factor

In practice, I think that's kinda just semantics. Sonic is given a wealth of tools to control where he goes with precision. The Homing Attack, Air Dash, Air Boost, Stomp, Drive and short hop are all excellent tools to this end. If you transplanted Sonic as he is into Shadow Generations, he'd be more than enough to deal with most stages.

He dooms the girl and the whole kingdom to die because "change is le good" platitude.
He's an asshole.

An eternity of stagnancy is meaningless.

So who's Guinevere? Who's Morgan? Who's Mordred?

That's his opinion.

oh no people wont age

I can stay young an beautiful forever yet still have new experiences.

oh no the flowers wont die, the castles wont crumble, the horror.

Peoples experiences and relationships can still progress, you don't need shit to rot and die to enjoy life.

Sonic in Dark Souls is a cool idea. Shame about the gameplay tho

Who said they won't age? The entire premise of the story is Camelot's inevitable downfall. But the world doesn't end just because Camelot falls. Merlina wanted Camelot to exist forever, but that doesn't mean she's blessing everyone with immortality.

because that's what she was doing. preserving everything in the story world in a magic time bubble.

Personally, I think an eternally unchanging world would get reallybold after a while. At some point, people will probably start offing themselves. I dunno how long that would take, but the suicide rate will probably be non-zero. I mean, I don't want to die, but would I really be able to mentally handle living my present life, seeing the exact same day-to-day,over and over, for a thousand years? Ten thousand years? A million years? And this is the fucking middle ages too. I feel like eventually, I'd get tired and just kill myself. It might take a century, a millenia, or even ten millennia, but I can't really imagine sticking with it for literally an eternity.

Don't get too cocky now, it's just the best Sonic game since Generations. It's still retains a lot of the same problems all these 3D Sonic games have of automation, spring into spring into homing attack chain nonsense and corridors floating over bottomless pits. When will Sonic evolve past this?

1622134074655.png - 500x492, 185.81K

You know what I kinda liked? Those DLC challenge stages in Unleashed where a single mistake would kill you.

At some point, people will probably start offing themselves. I dunno how long that would take, but the suicide rate will probably be non-zero

Lol You can't kill yourself. That would be a tangible change in the world. Your suicide would be denied and undone.

White Space is an absolute pain in the ass to navigate. It should have just been 2D like in Sonic’s mode.

You can skip some spring chains and homing attacks chains which is cool

In 2001

Sonic spared that traitorous, stupid bitch

Frontiers mostly evolved past it. If Frontiers 2 has Final Horizon-esque platforming challenges with an actual budget, dev time and coherent world design, we're golden.

It's too short even with the extra content. I have no idea how people could've tolerated generations when it first came out

Frontiers mostly evolved past it

Frontiers feels like a tech demo with stock assets and the most cookie cutter combat system you could shoehorn into a game. It didn't evolve past shit

People weren't as autistically obsessed with runtime when the original generations came out

Nah, that was a significant criticism towards the game, especially consideribg it was sold for what was then the standard full price.

I still have a soft spot for Sonic Colors since it has a more interesting scoring system and it has a mode that lets you just play all the levels in a row with combined score (why doesn't every sonic game have this?)

Other than that though Shadow Generations is legitimately the best 3D Sonic game since Adventure.

Play update 3

I think Sonic Colors misses the mark. It's fundamentally still a boost game, and the stages are designed with boost in mind, but you can't really boost too often most of the time. It fails to play to the strengths of boost but doesn't really make up for it with anything. The wisps also just feel like interruptions to me. They're not really that fun to use.

Just Finished, Game was a 9/10

I have, it degraded my opinion of the game

All the other characters suck to play as

They all start at level 1 so the already tedious combat is even worse

Romhack-tier platforming where they just threw some boxes in the sky and called it a day

Completely ruined the illusion of the Super Sonic fights being good because the master trial makes you engage with them mechanically instead of button mashing and enjoying the spectacle

Spindash is just a stronger boost with a moon jump code

The new final boss is just as shit as the original, with unexplained mechanics that are hidden away as the 100% unlock

Final Horizons is actively worse than the base game, and the base game was already mediocre as fuck

Maybe just because I've played it a lot of times over but I found many places you can boost in the 2D sections. The wisps aren't perfect but they do allow for a lot of creative pathing that we didn't see in stuff like Unleashed and Generations.

Baby Biolizard

I don't think they're that creative. For instance, Drill can only be used in areas thaf specifically require its use. They don't really test your skill or let you exercise creative freedom.

Yeah, I recently went back to Colors and had more fun than I remembered with it.

I will pray with you my friend

>Romhack-tier platforming where they just threw some boxes in the sky and called it a day

Graphics whore

Salamanders only start off with front limbs don't they? That's Why Biolizard has fucked up back legs. Now it just looks like Gerald gave the poor shit Diabetes.

hq720.jpg - 686x386, 50.33K

apparently the Generations team is staying on the mainline games now that Mario and Sonic series is Killed

If you really want to complain about automation in Sonic games, you should play the Wii/PS2 version of Unleashed. Dash pads every few feet, it's crazy.

aww man now I feel sad

Why did they make us do to him?

I will give this to Shadow Generations: This is the only time EVER I have found the bosses in a 3D Sonic game enjoyable enough that I actually wanted to replay them when I didn't absolutely have to.

The bosses in Sonic Generations are miserable in comparison

It's a cheap trick. Giving the monster a sympathetic backstory over twenty years after we killed it for cheap tears. It's hard for me to feel anything about this. I can't help but look at it cynically.

Jesus Christ

6hdx9n9qlksc1.png - 1280x578, 1.04M

The bosses in Sonic Generations and Sonic Unleashed emphasized speed because otherwise you'fld never use the boost at all. Since Shadow Generations doesn't prioritize boost in the slightest, it could break free from those constraints. Boost is far more important to Sonic and Shadow.

That said, Generations had one mpre issue: aside from Egg Dragoon, they're more focused on mimicking the conditions of the original game. Perfect Chaos was always a lame fight, and because Generations focuses on recreating that fight, it has the same issues. Honestly, Ithink Biolizard isn't any better either. It mimics the original too much. SA1 and SA2 have boring boss fights. But luckily, Mephiles was better.

Shadow Gens is significantly more polished than Sonic's anniversary meme game

It even hard deconfirmed that biolizard was based on Chaos
You know damn well Ian would be the first guy to try and shove shit like that in, so I think we're gonna be hearing some shit about Sega's involvement in this game eventually

the platforming is a bit on the nose but there is clear room from improvement here, shadow gens is evidence of that improvement pushed forward

Salamander

But that's an amphibian, not a lizard.

I mean that was always a stretch. A lizard was chosen for its regenerative power, not because of its resemblance to Perfect Chaos. We've always known thatm and besides, the Biolizard shares no traits whatsoever with Chaos. The only similarity is their reptilian designs

That doesn't look anything like an amphibian.

I never even thought of the Biolizard as based on Chaos.

The only interesting fight in Shadow Gens is Metal Overlord

start Sonic Generations after getting my Jam skin

think the two Sonic’s feel kinda shitty to play as

turning radius, homing lock-on, boost turning, jumping, air dash, light speed dash, etc.

realize Shadow Gens spoiled me with how well he controls in both 3D and 2D

Just beat it again, didn’t have that much fun at all except for a few great stages (Chemical Plant, SPEED HIGHWAY, City Escape, Seaside Hill, Rooftop Run) the rest were just kinda meh, especially Planet Wisp holy shit the spike and rocket wisp were the lame they could’ve at least done laser not fucking rocket. Hopefully there’s a mod soon that gives Sonic Gens the same physics and base abilities as Shadow in Shadow Gens.

The only interesting fight in Shadow Gens is the one that is the most like a heavily scripted theme park ride

I HAVE THE DATA OF CHAOS, THE ULTIMATE LIFE FORM AND SONIC THE HEDGEHOG.

I SHALL DISPLAY MY SUPREME MIGHT BY HOVERING JUST ABOVE SEA LEVEL AND THROWING RANDOM TRASH AND MISSILES AT YOU

And their natures, and their great power that has some relation to the chaos emeralds
It literally just being a random lizard pumped with roids completely divorced from the other work on project shadow also ignores how its roar is sonic and shadow's voices layered together

Yes

Literally claims he's god

Throws shit at you

I mean he did in the original too but come on SEGA

Wait that’s more like several stages, there’s only 9…
If I had to rank them all, probably

Kingdom Valley > Space Colony Ark > Radical Highway > Chaos Island > Speed Highway > Sunset Heights > Rooftop Run > Seaside Hill > City Escape > Chemical Plant > Rail Canyon > Green Hill > Sky Sanctuary > Crisis City > Planet Wisp

>All the other characters suck to play as

Amy has the best mobility in the game
Knuckles fucking sucks but only because they ruined his movement, he controlled great in an earlier iteration
Tails does exactly what he used to do except with no homing attack

>They all start at level 1 so the already tedious combat is even worse

Literally not true, each of them hits like a truck even at level 1.

>Romhack-tier platforming where they just threw some boxes in the sky and called it a day

The level design in update 3 is some of the most engaging and thoughtfully designed content we've seen in the 3d games since the DLC levels in Unleashed. Even at their worst they mog the shit out of every attempt we've seen from ST at actual skill-based platforming.

>Completely ruined the illusion of the Super Sonic fights being good because the master trial makes you engage with them mechanically instead of button mashing and enjoying the spectacle

Skill issue

>Spindash is just a stronger boost with a moon jump code

And as such, it's wildly more difficult to use than the regular boost but significantly more rewarding when you use it right. Instead of a go fast button with absolutely no risk because the level design is designed with as many safety nets as possible and enough rings so you never lose speed, every slope and edge becomes a possible skip if you angle yourself properly and learn the layout of the level.

>The new final boss is just as shit as the original, with unexplained mechanics that are hidden away as the 100% unlock

That mechanic is explained in the first guardian tutorial in the first island of the game. You use it against every soldier on every island.
You use it against every ninja on Kronos, Chaos and Ouranos.
You even use it against the Knight, unless you're one of the fucking retards that chose to wail on the shield instead of realizing that you were being punished for punching a literal shield. Pay attention.

I mean look, realistically, Gerald wouldn't have had many options. Chaos is a creature of water. The Biolizard is a salamander that shoots purple balls. They don't even look alike.

unless you're one of the fucking retards that chose to wail on the shield instead of realizing that you were being punished for punching a literal shield. Pay attention.

It literally puts you into a cutscene where you ride the shield and ram it into him. If anything that seems like intended behavior, a player would keep trying to do that because it matches up with the spectacle of previous fights.
Also you can literally just parry the ninjas and fuck them up then and there, and cylooping deals with 99% of basic enemies as well.

Salamanders have wet skin, lay their eggs in water, and have gills at an early stage in life. Some salamanders keep their gills, like the axolotl. They're amphibians.

Thats hot.

Amy controls like Sonic with a triple jump. Sonic controls like shit, therefor Amy does too
Knuckles is a worse Sonic, always has been
Tails is also a worse Sonic, only made bearable because the Tornado is brokebn

The level design in update 3 is some of the most engaging and thoughtfully designed content

Look at this picture and rethink the words you're typing

Skill issue

It's a bad combat system and the bosses, Wyvern especially, have shit tells for their attacks. Wyvern was the only difficult part of that challenge, and only because he would fucking waste your time and has dogshit attack animations

And as such, it's wildly more difficult to use than the regular boost

There is literally zero skill involved in using the spindash. It's boost2win in its most distilled format, you don't even have to stop boosting in the air anymore. Stop hyping yourself up, you held the fun button and watched Sonic go zoom

That mechanic is explained in the first guardian tutorial in the first island of the game

Wrong. You don't dodge behind supreme, you change lock on targets. In a competently made combat system this is one button. And before you get all pissy, they wouldn't have made it the 100% unlock if they just expected you to know it. There is zero defense for that, stop trying.
That doesn't even mention that there's no indicator that you need to cyloop the random vent on its back to make a gun come out, which allows you to progress. I depleted that piece of shit's health, it should be dead. Instead it schizes out for a bit, Sonic gets stuck in place, then the fight resets. It's a bad fight, play better action games

If you're talking about Knuckles' glide in Frontiers, they fixed that shit with a later patch that should've been there from the start. Now he glides more like he how did in SA1 and SA2.

So?

And then they gave him the Infinite Glide, so they just did not give a fuck.

Does Tails still have that shitty startup animation before flying?

He already had Infinite Glide before the patch.

Yes, which is weird because they removed the glide startup Knuckles had originally.

I guess people didn't complain enough about Tails for them to care. Probably because of the broken Tornado

Gets involved with the vidya

Series slowly shifts slowly back to adventure-overtones

Fanservice only boomers and lorefags will get

His second game brings back a one-off villain from a game that's basically a meme

Was he a net positive or negative?

I dunno how long his style can really work. Constantly bringing up the past can get old after a while, and Sonic shouldn't be the type to dwell om the past too much either.

I wish Sega had given enough of a shit to write a official Gerald's Diary before letting this shitheap ruin it with his obvious headcanons or let Evan Troonley draw the pictures.

I'm jealous of talent

Yeah I know

What did Sonic the Hedgehog mean by this?????????

I’ve noticed from reading his works that he only does this when he’s starting work on a universe. He’s did this a lot in the Archie Reboot and the IDW’s first arc, he’ll probably let go of it eventually but it’s worth noting that Ian has almost always been placed into projects that “need repairing”, like Frontiers was supposed to take Sonic back into a new (yet old) direction since the 12 years before were basically Saturday morning cartoon tier. Nostalgia-baiting with references is a comic book writer thing, a ton of Marvel and DC writers will do it too, it’s part of the whole stereotype of the geek/nerd explaining “this is a reference to when Batman threw the hawk-o-rang instead in issue 76 of Batman Beginnings in the 90s” blah blah blah you get the idea.

I still cant believe the final cutscene had rouge and shadow leaving omega and big behind
It feels like sega is treating omega just like big at this point

*He did

Even then, though, I do find it out of character. Consider that across twenty years you can count on one hand the number of times Sonic referenced past games. It happened from time to time, but it's extremely rare. It's become a part of his character. If someone must bring up the past, it shouldn't be Sonic who does it. At tge very least, it's not something he should do more than once per game.

Well, we'll see how things end up going.

Hey you know what else was evidence of improvement?

Generations.

Take nothing for granted with sonic team.

Based and truthpilled.

Silver Adventure

Nobody wants to play as that jobber

Blaze Adventure

Sure

Amy Adventure

Only if it starts off like her SA1 story where she’s kinda useless but she progressively becomes more and more useful and on-par with Sonic Tails Knuckles etc.

Temple Run but Sonic

improvement

yeah no

I do like that Sonic is allowed to have "serious" plots again but none of them have the sauce that Adventure or Adventure 2 had. Those games had very "cinematic" stories that played out like a crazy fucking movie, whereas Frontiers was a very "game-first" story with "Sonic is stuck in this area and he must do this repetitive thing each island and discover lore." As much as I like Shadow Generations character writing still not a lot actually "happens" in the plot.

I did like how Sonic was able to be heroic again, but The End was far too lame. In order for Sonic to truly shine, I think Sonic needs two main things: someone new to bond with, and a villain that really draws out his heroism. The End was a failure in that regard. While it's true Sonic had to try hard, there justvwasn't any emotional pay-off.

Negative

the best Sonic game since the Dreamcast titles*

Fixed it for you.

This
It's just the most polished game since the genesis titles

Sonic Generations? Yeah. Shadow is just more of Frontiers with slightly less tech demo finish.

saw a rumor that Sonic is a boss for the movie dlc, can't remember where I saw it though

This
Generations was regarded as one of the best when it released back then

thank the lord, the mario and sonic series can rest in shit too.

Because it's cool

Speed Highway is cooler.
Black Doom is SHIT.

SD Unleashed has good dash panels

Yeah but when you boost into one you do a spindash and I think that's pretty neat

2024

The game ends with male MC crying like a pathetic beta male cuck

What happened to games? Remember when we could have masculine protagonists?

He's cried a grand total of two times the entire series.

wrong thread.

And?

Eh. I think it's kinda weird and awkward-looking. Curling into a ball for a second and then resuming running.

If you ask me, I think Sonic had the best animations in the PS3/360 version of Unleashed. Like how he runs with his hands open, but then clenches them when he boosts. Or how he uses his hands to drift. Granted, it's a shame that he doesn't spin as much im that game, but he had really good-looking animations in that game.
