On the contrary; the first game is the ONLY one where you can truly be a human supremacist. Like oh sure ME2 forces you to join a supposedly human-first terrorist group but as says it's bullshit, and you're forced to be companions with aliens. ME1 allowed to roleplay as a xenophobic Shepard to the point you can essentially pull a coup d'état and establish a human Council. All that shit's gone by 2

The best part of ME3 was easily the multiplayer, and this doesn't have it. I feel absolute pity for anyone who plays this version for that reason alone, the other downgrades are inconsequential. Multiplayer accounted for 2/3 of the hours I put into ME3.

i'll never understand putting 3>2, must be the gameplay. i had to stop playing 3 because the story beats made my eyes roll so hard they almost fell out of my head. 2's story is dumb but easy to ignore in favor of the episodic side quests, cool characters and top tier atmosphere.

I fucking hated Cerberus, I fucking hated my handicapped Shepard, I fucking hated the Council, I fucking hated the Collectors and I fucking HATED the Suicide Mission. ME3, going back to the Reapers, going back to the fucking Alliance, going back to ME1's Cerberus? With a crew that actually interacts with each other instead of felling like replaceable quantity > quality donutsteel Expendables? Hell yes I was in

Combat is only like 40% at best if gameplay in any rpg, even an action braindead one like mass effect. So the gameplay does regress as you proceed through the series. Choices because less meaningful, crew interaction becomes shallow and stripped down, gear upgrades are virtually non existent etc

shepard moves and feels clunky as hell in 3. i adjusted alright on xbox but when i redid the trilogy on pc and went straight into 3 after 2 it was unbearable. i played the first mission and quit.
the loadout system was amazing, class powers and combat were good i just wish it was in a better fucking game

Gameplay was at its best in 1, I completely agree... which is why 3's was superior to 2's when it at least took that base and expanded on it with a not-completely braindead skill tree system for you + companions, weapon modding returning from 1, far more armor and armor bonus stats and the whole 'weight = cooldown' system

Squadmates in 3 actually move around, talk to each other both in the Normandy and around the Citadel. Nobody in 2 leaves their freaking rooms

1's cerberus were a bunch of goons. small group, secluded labs etc
3's cerberus are a quite large evil organization. very different. it was stupid when 2 did it, it's worse in 3

3 has a lot of cool moments, but most of the cool stuff falls flat once you remember the how fucking stupid the context is. it got dealt a bad hand and did pretty good with it but it shouldn't have been like this.

you can just say 2. i really like 2 but it has glaring flaws too and began the downfall. i don't outright hate any of the three, it's just easier to hand wave 2's issues because most of the game is side quests.
in hindsight, i think it would have been easy to sweep a lot of 2's missteps under the rug had 3 not been rushed and also saddled with finishing the fight.

i could talk all night about how think the future of mass effect should've gone but its pointless. it's over
