Ocarina of Time sold way more than Banjo-Kazooie and it isn't even close. Miyamoto is famous for saying “a delayed game is eventually good, but a rushed game is forever bad“ so the interview at is indicating he's not scared, but happy that Banjo is filling a void in Nintendo sales so he has more time to polish up his Zelda game before sending it out.

There were no Metroid games on the N64. Starfox 64 has a pretty popular game for the system though.
It was a weird time were you could have legit thought "Star Fox: Adventures" would be a winning bet and Metroid would fall into obscurity. Who could have predicted that something like Metroid Prime would have come out and revitalized the franchise while now the Star Fox franchise is pretty much dead outside of Smash Bros memes.
