the fanbase for this franchise outside-looking-in is fucking depressing.
they fawn over and viciously defend a "revival" that was neither financially nor critically successful outside of remakes of already beloved entries to the series.
if that wasn't bad enough, the ones they remade for that revival are the ONLY beloved games in the series, everything else ranges from mixed to bad.
the only people i have EVER seen going out to bat on crash's behalf act the way that we all joked sonic fans acted 15 years ago but in modern day.
Crash Bandicoot
On the bright side, things are healing. Now we just need a comic book series done by REAL fans (or at least people who understand what the brand is and isn't).
Desexualization will never be reward by the customer base.
Anyone who suggest doing so is trying to sabotage your business.
they fawn over and viciously defend a "revival" that was neither financially nor critically successful outside of remakes of already beloved entries to the series.
huh?
the only people who understood the original developers were vicarious visions and beenox
cap both of them and send them to the CoD mines so the C-team can fuck things up
Crash has always been owned by the worst executives, first Universal and now Activision. Not a single game has been exempt from the higher ups causing problems, and only some Crash games were good in spite of this fuckery, among other things
forced to start over in a new hardware generation to meet Christmas deadline
half a game left cut due to deadlines
forced to work in the fucking hallway instead of their office
forced to put microtransactions into the game post-release
The orange marsupial can't get a break. But at least the good games are solid highs, and no one really deluded themselves into believing the lows were actually good.
at least the good games are solid highs
are they though? if you were around for the classics you'll know crash was always a second or third choice for most people, crash 2 is the only traditional crash game i would personally consider a solid high, crash 3 has high moments but it isn't steady at all. crash team racing is fantastic though and has its valor stolen by the brand recognition of mario kart, no doubts about that.
the ones they remade for that revival are the ONLY beloved games in the series, everything else ranges from mixed to bad.
I would fucking love if they remade Bash, WoC and Twinsanity in the style of the remake trilogy
If they would just announce a definitive version of CTR Nitro Fueled for PC and current gen consoles everyone would be ecstatic
he doesn't know about the nvidia leak
the leak that confirmed a fully working PC build of CTR:NF
that never released for no good reason
cap both of them and send them to the CoD mines so the C-team can fuck things up
Playing Devil's Advocate here, being on CoD is a sign that Activision trusts you. CoD is their Cash cow so they don't want garbage devs on it.
forced to put microtransactions into the game post-release
I don't think the devs (any of them) were against those. Remember, they are ACTIVISION devs. Corporate culture at work.
English, mother fucker
not the anon you're responding to but you're right about MTX, it's not so much that devs actively support it but in a real-world context of being an employee in the software industry (specifically game development) all you care about is putting bread on the table. you could be using your skills to work for the military so by comparison being asked to put in a button to buy a skin in some video game is same old same old, sure you'd personally prefer otherwise but the amount of corporate climbing it'd take for you to make such a change even in a group is not worth risking your career on if it isn't something you passionately despite like, as i said, working on military software if you don't want people to die.
Crash 1 is a technical marvel of its time. Console graphics simply could not do what Crash 1 did, not even Sony could figure out how naughtydog did it
Crash 2 was the peak on all fronts. Gameplay, music, level design, and story.
Crash 3 was popular but felt like a bit of jumping the shark, but still beloved since it was following up on crash 2.
CTR is the beat kart racing game ever made and Mario Kart hasn't even come close even when directly ripping off ideas from it.
Its not genre defining but its an evolution of 2d platformers into the 3d space that paved the way for the free-form camera hallway platformers of the following generation. Even Mario wound up learning lessons from it that were applied to Nintendos linear platforming games like 3d land/world
CTR is the beat kart racing game ever made
idk if i'd go that far but it's definitely top 3, i think in terms of moment-to-moment its beaten by ring racers for me but CTR is the gold standard for unlockables and singleplayer content, nitro-fuelled even more so
Crash 1 is a technical marvel of its time. Console graphics simply could not do what Crash 1 did, not even Sony could figure out how naughtydog did it
it's historically important i agree but i noticed you didn't mention anything about it being fun and that's because it isn't
The only revival it had were terrible Skylander reskins, it then got killed for good with 4 and CTR(the other one)
they fawn over and viciously defend a "revival" that was neither financially nor critically successful outside of remakes of already beloved entries to the series.
?
I think CTR NF was very good, n.sane was decent job, and 4 was huge disappointment.
Which is why I have ZERO sympathy when studios get shut down. Just because you were "doing your job" doesn't exempt you from responsibility. You took the paycheck, you suffer the consequences.
See all the people on the death star getting blown up. Next time, be a janitor in a less evil Empire.
They got put on cod to make skins, not to do development work. Being a kart racing dev doesn't help dev an fps game, and that basically robs them of any creative control since they are demoted to a cog in the machine instead of continuing to maintain a unique title. Cod would be profitable if they shit in a bag and sold it, they didn't need an entire studio to drop everything else to make skins.
As for the microtransaction drama, they knew it would be poorly received and they continously bumped the wumpa coin payouts so players basically had no incentive to use the cash shop since they'd be drowning in coins if they played the game. Having your balls in a vice and being made to implement it is one thing, but they then went behind activision's back to specifically undermine it in favor of their players.
for the egregious crime of putting a microtransaction in crash bandicoot
in case you haven't noticed, the world's a lot more fucked than that, i have strong principles when it comes to things that actually matter and i've lost many opportunities over them
They got put on cod to make skins, not to do development work.
You need to define "They".
Beenox was put on CoD to do development work. They're a "support studio" like Monolith Soft. They can do almost anything. This is why they are still on CoD.
Toys for Bob got put on CoD to make skins cause they were a studio full of useless artists who've been huffing farts since the Skylanders days. This is why they've closed down, no actual coders or game designers.
Wumpa coin
If there was any truth to that, they wouldn't have patched out the shortcuts that made grinding coins MUCH faster.
they fawn over and viciously defend a "revival" that was neither financially nor critically successful outside of remakes of already beloved entries to the series.
You must have came from a different reality because old crash fags don't like 4
Need to grind 100+ hour to get enough alwyas online money to unlock everything instead of skilled based unlocks
B-but it's better than other gacha that takes 1000+ hours
It's shit but I guess it worked great to prevent retarded NPC from leaving, must see numbers go up.
And then the game was dropped like a rock when the number stopped going up
Worse still is that sales for Team Sonic Racing spiked after the MTX announcement. When your direct rivals (Sonic & Mario) can advertise that they don't have predatory monetization, you are just shooting yourself in the dick.
What a shame this game got SEGA'd
So many good ideas mixed with so many god awful ideas
This is why they've closed down, no actual coders or game designers.
Someone's got an ax to grind, Jesus
Just because you didn't like some of their decisions doesn't mean they're a shit studio. Also they're in a better place than every Activision studio - they split off and are currently doing work with Microsoft.
I'm replaying the original Crash 1 now and realize that N.Sane Trilogy hasn't improved anything regarding the platforming itself, it made everything worse. I mean, it was clear to me every time Crash slipped from the crate and especially during the foggy bridge levels but going back to the original really cements that feel. The PS1 version is much more tight and fair, despite what the retards say (the same retards are partly at fault for Crash 4 being such a badly balanced and paced piece of shit).
It's because the remakes are just Skylander with Crash assets. Same with CTR but it was much more obvious since everything was broken on release.
I went to a dev show where Beenox talked about how they managed to make those games with a fixed budget, a fixed timeline and a fixed number of features. They just dropped the quality until it got done.
Just because you didn't like some of their decisions doesn't mean they're a shit studio.
Was this not studio who cynically used Spyro to push their Skylanders games only to immediately sideline him in the next one?
Is it true that said studio decided to replace a long standing character with a redesigned knockoff out of sheer hatred that the original character was a "Damsel in Distress"?
Finally, is picsreel not a former employee of said studio trying to deflect from criticism of the redesigns in Crash 4 as just "used to the other thing"? That other thing being honest faithful designs.
They were a shit studio who used IPs like skinsuits. Had no respect whatsoever.
CTR remake is perfectly fine though?
Hey man it isn't our fault the dev team completely fucked up the platforming physics/responsiveness.
All they had to do was change literally nothing and make the 3d modern. You'd think thats impossible to fuck up but hey here we are
No, they're absolutely a shit studio.
nigga pls
what were they thinking?
we're going to make one of the best games for the console
And they succeeded.
Redpill me on why I'm supposed to hate it. Gameplay wise it's mostly true to to the original, with some mechanics taken from nitro kart, along with all of the additional tracks. We have a great time playing it when my friends or family are over. We used to only play the original until someone convinced me to buy the remake (I was extremely skeptical at first given how ass the trilogy remake was) but I ended up liking nitro fueled a lot.
oh you're a newfag, that explains why you can't fucking read.
But yes, 1 year of update managed to somewhat fix the skylander physic in offline play with other things like time trial. Online, item balance and blue fire balance will forever stay fucked though. Not that it has anything to do with what I said about the release day.
Okay, so it is a perfectly fine remake. Glad we agree.
online
don't care
I think Jak & Daxter is the one with the worst fate. Whenever they bring out Rubin or Gavin, any of the OG Naughty Dog crew, they devote the entire interview to Crash, Uncharted, and their thoughts on modern ND, skipping entirely over it. Even now the consensus has totally shifted on the series, with the first J&D being the only good one in retrospect. But at the time, Jak 2 & 3 reviewed really well, and Combat Racing was one of those word of mouth classics. Daxter too was a big seller on the PSP.
Twinsanity
Twinsanity
...is something I'd love to see get remastered and improved upon.
Crash had 3 good to great platformers and a nice racing spin-off. Some franchises have made millions on less.
worst fate
Currently has its three main games decompiled with functional PC ports
Hasn't been ruined by current year faggots
I'd say Jak & Daxter are in the best position of any of the Naughty Dog franchises.
with 1 being the only good one in retrospect
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
no
2 >= 3 > 1
Jak 2 & 3 were shat on for obvious reasons
2 got some nice reviews because reviewers never played enough to reach the painful parts and they were the targeted audience that wanted mature games for mature people such as myself.
Obviously they're not bad games but man, what a weird era. Jak 2 and PoP WW were my biggest wtf moments
Dude. Mario Kart/DKR!
Dude .. Mario Party!
Naughty Dog never had an original idea in their life.
Crash 1 2 3 were 9/10 all together
CTR is the best racing game
Bash was good especially if you had a sibling to play with
Twinsanity could've been the best crash game if it weren't for the cut content
1 2 3 remakes are great
Nitro fueled is a shitty cash grab that deserves to be shat on and I hope eveyone suffers who took part in making that game
Crash 4 to Crash franchise is basically what Concord is to hero shooters
Don't @ me
Eurocom made bash
I'm almost done getting all the cheevos in transformed, is this worth picking up? the team mechanic looks kinda gay
Content wise, yes. That said, you get the most out of it by playing as a team with your friends. Will be really cheap come the Steam winter sale.
It's ultra fucking gay, getting first place doesn't mean you get first place if your 2 team members finished last.
Gameplay wise it's actually pretty well made, the team mechanics work well
I'm a Jakfag and a Crashfag, nobody wants a revival. They had brief fame and died, somewhat peacefully if you ignore TLF. You don't want Druckmann and his cronies touching it, or modern developers at Sony period. You'll get something that looks like Concord but plays like Nu God of War/TLOU.
the most out of it by playing as a team with your friends
that's a bummer
yeah fuck that sounds terrible. I'm sure they have enough challenges and stuff
