Average TV show trying to reference videogames in a episode

Average TV show trying to reference videogames in a episode

kid/teenage characters holding disconnected x-box controllers and pressing random buttons while random 8-bit beeps and boops play, also the game is apparently online multiplayer but you need to get "the highscore" and "beat the final level"

Big Bang theory

references Super Mario 64 specifically, not just "super mario"

uses actual super mario 64 sound effects

plays the actual pause sound effect whenever Sheldon pauses the game

knows what an "emulator" is and that you'd need one to play super mario 64 on a computer

Why are all other normie media so lazy when it comes to referencing videogames?

is sheldon /ournigga/?

Show was aimed at redditors before redditors were even a thing, of course it had to be accurate when it comes to pop culture references.

One of the writers must of known a sperg in real life to include the "poorly coded" part especially.

Yes because nothing bad every happens when normalfags are introduced to niche hobbies.

I've never understood why they don't just have the character play a real video game. Mute the sound of you're that concerned about it being a copyright issue. Do none of the actors own a fucking console IRL?

"Hey man, can you bring in your Xbox for tomorrow's filming? We need it for a scene."

Wow that dude sure looks like he's having fun on his Dell™ XPS™ laptop. It seems perfectly in character for him to be using a gaming laptop.

sheldon used an emulator

@FBI @NINTENDO @TRANS_RIGHTS DO SOMETHING

"hey i have an actual xbox we could use on set fo-"

holy fuck Kunal nobody actually cares about the nerd shit, we're not wasting time on that nonsense, stop being a fucking retard and get back on set and make sure to make your accent extra sandperson-y

you are not fully comprehending how much the people in charge inhibit good things from happening

american flag sticker

MAGA CHUD.

"Hey man, can you bring in your Xbox for tomorrow's filming? We need it for a scene."

and 101 more things that some showrunner boomer jew would never say

Sometimes they'll show real footage of a game on a real console but the inputs don't line up at all. They might only be allowed to play a prerecorded marketing clip. I have a vague memory of a kid in a movie playing a Fight Night game and it instantly threw me off because he was pressing the face buttons the whole time and not using the sticks

sm64 on a keyboard

Why was he using a poorly coded emulator when well coded ones are readily available?

Peak was The Good Doctor when his neighbor needed batteries for her PS3 controller.

XPS actually used to be Dell's gaming brand before they bought Alienware.

Why would his neighbor need new batteries if she doesn't have any games to play?

Why do they do this?
Is couldn't be a money issue, right? They already paid for IP usage for video footage. Did they not include audio with the deal?

Or is this just "localisation" with familiar commodore bleeps and bloops to not scare boomers, like they didn't want to scare parents with corrupting influence of riceballs in anime?

6fe.jpg - 400x407, 19.07K

yes?

A few issues come to mind:
Corporate issues: Not just copyright, you might accidentally advertise a game made by the nemesis of your corporate overlords.
Tone issues: The game could be inappropriate for the scene.
Responsibility issues: Stuff on set gets broken all the time, stagehands and actors mishandle stuff etc. You want clear line of responsibility and indemnity in case things go wrong.

because some of us prioritize soul over efficiency

an earlier season episode in big bang theory was about penny getting mega addicted to age of conan. but she talked about it like it was world of warcraft kek
t. used to play age of conan at launch
always wondered why they decided on that random ass game that went f2p instantly when every normie "nerd" that was into this show would've 100% recognized the name world of warcraft

I remember Rosanne had an episode where her son got an SNES and they name dropped it but the game he was playing was a generic made up sitcom game.

seeCorporate politics.

the PS5 has like 10 games that are all coming to PC eventually

If only we knew how good we had it back when the PS3 had no gaems

I did it that way as a teenager.
Got all dem stars.
Had fun.

they referred to world of warcraft as well. maybe the joke was supposed to be that penny isn't a nerd and doesn't know better so she gets hooked EVEN ON age of conan.

if i make a movie there is going to be one guy that is always just sitting there playing something time-intensive like rimworld or factorio or whatever, any time that particular room is used in the story, and they never have any speaking lines or any relevance to the plot, they don't react in any way to the stuff they're doing in the video game, but their computer screen is always visible enough when they are in frame that you can see how they are progressing in their game as the move goes on.

Near the end of the movie the guy gets up to take a piss or something and gives the actual characters in the movie an "oh, hey, what have you been up to" without sticking around to hear the answer, comes back and sits back down wordlessly to continue playing

Or is this just "localisation" with familiar commodore bleeps and bloops to not scare boomers,

It could be that. It became a common enough trope that it's included to tell the audience "videogames are happening." Like nature sounds that are actually inappropriate for the location, but "it's what x sounds like in tv and movies".

maybe the joke was supposed to be that penny isn't a nerd and doesn't know better so she gets hooked EVEN ON age of conan.

you really think the bazinga show would ever remotely think about writing remotely anywhere deep enough as that?

i've always hated that juxtaposition

did you get the new Nintendo© Super Nintendo® Entertainment System?

Yeah! And I *HAD* to get Ultra Bloody Fighting Marines 3 for it too, you know it!

the first two seasons of The Big Bang Theory were genuinely good. S2's finale and everything onward was irredeemable dogshit, but everything before that was at least serviceable, sometimes great.
anons who blame western media's drop on quality on The Big Bang Theory like have been smokescreened from the real cause which, incidentally, caused TBBT to go to complete shit

8NPDeGo.png - 360x303, 164.57K

Isn't this show then advocating that piracy is ok?
Can Nintendo sue?

yeah? it's shallow most of the time but some knowledge shines through. have you ever watched it or just hated on it for past 15 years because of memes on Anon Babble?

uh huh

Ye olde consolewar shitposting still seems so fresh, to see the meme live on two console generations later is just astounding.

what happened in the S2 finale?
the 5 seasons i watch blend together and i genuinely cannot remember the plot of all but a couple episodes

I heard it was actually because they were afraid of Nintendo suing them, so they included the line shit-talking it so that Nintendo would go "oh good, they're telling people that emulators suck"

watch

watched* i meant
good lord imagine using this show as your background noise generator

what happened in the S2 finale?

the birth of "Bazinga"
completely OoC compared to the entirety of all of the episodes prior but for whatever reason they stuck with it

To be fair I don't remember if it was a show or a movie but I remember SOME scene that actually showed people playing a old Stargate MMO

I don't even remember that many bazingas. There were several in the ball pool, maybe one or two when he locked himself in a room and lived through a drone, maybe one when talking about his childhood and that's pretty much it. I'd say average Anon Babble thread has more bazingas than show's entire run.

average tv show

videogames are merely a prop for one scene with no purpose or reason, neither producers nor audience cares

the baboon dairy

videogames are major part of the show and huge percentage of audience are nerds and geeks, yet authors did very basic research and halfassed the rest

remember when the guys played WoW on couch on their laptops on their laps without mice?
or how Penny started to play Age of Conan and then she threw around the most random dnd lingo that didn't make any sense to people who ever actually played and rpg and guys were like "OMG PENNY WHAT IS GOIN ON YOU'RE SUCH A GAMER WOW THAT IS SO EPIC"
yes I used to watch the show
Young Sheldon is unironically much better since it just another inoffensive family sitcom instead of endless "the cake is a lie XD" moments

you are not fully comprehending how much the people in charge inhibit good things from happening

They are just carrying out Lord Moloch's will. Good things offend Him.

well coded emulator

holy cope

Did project 64 bros ever recovered after this bomb dropped?

character calls console "a game"

this is like the final boss of this trope

For me it's

video game is a secret recruitment for teenagers to fight against the IRL bad guy

aaron_stone.jpg - 680x1000, 285.77K

The only time I remember video game talk actually making sense in a show was in Breaking Bad when they were talking about CoD Zombies. If I remember right the writer was smart enough to ask his son for help with that.

I decided to give the full show a try after watching only the first 2 season like 10 years ago and holy.... is everyone a terrible human being?

that NCIS episode where McGee gushes over this chick who "has the top score in 3 MMOs"

when doing such a thing in even one is basically a full time job by itself

My parents wondering why I laughed made it funnier.

This is just bias.

I mean to be fair

First to max level and clear the hardest boss or something like that

in three different MMORPGs

That is pretty impressive. They just had to say "score" for boomers.

Th-the advancement of tech to the masses and everything turning to shit afterwards is just a coincidence!

2007 itself wasn't a bad year
but it's definitively the turning point

I remember this show
And I also was dumb enough to think the game was real

REMEMBER THE HONEYPOT CANNOT BE ERASED

Thr poorly coded one has the one feature that he needed to have because hes autistic so he uses the worse emulator for that 1 specific feature.

2007 is the agony
2016 is the dead point.

This was in 2008

NCIS writers know boomers who watch it don't care/don't know any better and just have a blast making up the most ridiculous shit
youtube.com/watch?v=msX4oAXpvUE

If you squint your eyes enough, this might as well be a trashy anime/LN adaptation.
Anyway, for me was Level Up.

I wanted to say, that i'm a video game nerd!

Levelup.jpg - 471x688, 113.01K

Pretty sure anyone like that could make it at least as a mid level streamer or something if theyre big enough games. Double the chance if theyre a chick.

what are you trying to achieve lmao

polybious

blizzaga

ah, right

kek nothing, just shitposting at you

alright, keep going

meh no point. i got a reaction out of you

You mean you... bazinga'd him?

jokster.jpg - 554x554, 19.37K

open up the game

starts up with the 1st floor of the prequel

beat the Minotaur boss

Pazuzu comes out of the game and tells you to defeat Bael and whatever coming threat happens

demons attack you in the real world

real Megami Tensei II moment

MTIIJapan.png - 1067x1589, 3.31M

Theres only one show so far that did vidya right.

e57fHB.gif - 400x224, 2.6M

Two player ff8 wth

Did you read the fine print that used to come in game manuals? It was basically the same as movies which stated you weren't allowed to play it to an audience. Nobody would come to enforce it if you were a literally who schmuck but a TV network or movie studio, now that's where there's money to be made.

All the good FF games actually are 2 player

kek how did they get away with a scene like this?

it was a different time. honestly, tbbt should have been 4channel's given how much autistic racism sheldon does.

The Sopranos? Besides Tony holding it incorrectly the kid did it right I think

everyone is bringing up mario 64, but didn't BBT mave a scene with someone sperging about how Shadow of Colossus remaster on PS3, despite the graphical upgrades, is not as atmospheric and faithful as the original SotC on PS2 was, or something like that?

That's probably the most specific and accurate nerd talk I've seen in western popular media

it was a different time

is TBBT really that old? Or have we just regressed so far in the past few years that we're even referring to TBBT as "a different time"?

a broadcast television show telling people that piracy is easy and just as good if not better than playing games officially

wouldn't be allowed

yes

bro you may forget but Obama didn’t support fag marriage in his first term. The entire lgbt shit has barely been around for more than a decade.

It started 17 years ago

I remember watching a christimas horror movies called Krampus and there is a scene where a boy is playing the ipad dead space on his ipad.

He is planning to fix the code later for fun, and to never release it online.

Ironic how that post was made on December 21, 2012 (Mayan calendar) which is the other common "end of times" along with 2007

There's an emulator with the zsnes front end and the snes9x back end for if you want both things.
I never tried it though, it's called ZMZ

2007 itself wasn't a bad year but it's definitively the turning point

At the same time, that means 2007 was peak

for us 30-34 year olds, it sure was

This shit had a browser diablo/torchlight game that ran like ass on my computer, I played it like twice

>references Super Mario 64 specifically, not just "super mario"

>uses actual super mario 64 sound effects

>plays the actual pause sound effect whenever Sheldon pauses the game

>knows what an "emulator" is and that you'd need one to play super mario 64 on a computer

wow wow hold on, are they THAT knowledgeable? that's EPIC FOR THE WIN gamerbro!

I think he thinks computer science is a meme for sissies, isn't that how the show goes?
He's knowledgeable enough to know Project64 underperforms but he doesn't want to investigate or look up a better one because he thinks being too tech literate is for faggots.
Basically, he's the average Anon Babble user

The reason people disliked the big bang theory was because of the insufferanble people who got into it and were all like "i'm such a nerd" but didn't know any nerdstuff other than whatever they parroted from sheldon. Ironically, hating big band theory was a form of gatekeeping nerdom (which failed).

This show is weirdly special to me. I only watched one episode once but for some reason, I still vividly remember 2 scenes of that singular episode. I'm always tempted to watch it but I never do it because I feel it would ruin it

The Bing Bong Theory was alright for the first couple seasons. Then they started getting girlfriends and became turbo normies and the humor got way too researched and dry.

1373063535562.jpg - 238x267, 15.53K

All the shitty game adaptations have shown that showrunners and writers actively look down on gaming despite it being a bigger industry than their own.

drunk Sheldon > Howard > normal Sheldon > Raj > Amy > Leonard >>>> Bernadette > Penny

It's great when the jeet is a constant punching bag instead of just a pitiable loser.

I defeated the Gorgon, freed the forest from evil demons, and rescued the dying princess from her dungeon. Oh, wait till you hear how he lifted the spell she was under. A sword and a lock of her hair.
I carried her to the secret cave, I tied the hair to the sword and placed it at the entrance.
She's as good as new.

he watched the entire series

Raj >> Sheldon >= Penny > Howard > Leonard

Why are you indian?

S1+2 Raj openly hated his culture
which you'd know if you watched anything other than the normalfag shit, normalfag

he says while watching Big Bang Theory

That's not true, I only watched few episodes from each season.
You people may pretend that the series went to shit after they got girls, but it's nowhere as bad as Two and Half Men after Sheen got fired, or Malcolm in the Middle when Francis left the military school - and those are the 2 shows I liked.

you also got compared to sheldon if you were even a little nerdy, which made me clam up on my interests

that image

that filename

nothing further

that image

You don't know where it's from.

that filename

You don't know what causes that type of filename.

Sit down, you retarded shitskinned slopwatcher.

what N64 emulator was well coded back in 2008?
I don't even think there actually is one in 2024

I was talking about your "girls don't play videogames" "infograph".

Yeah but the jump timing was all wrong Still a step above though I guess.

that episode where he had an existential crisis because he didn't know which to choose between the bone and the nogame 4

Motherfucker is that A-train?

What the fuck? It actually is him lol.

IMG_6509.jpg - 977x1929, 1.11M

it’s crazy how low the bar is for that to be a good reference

the scene in the 2003 charlie’s angels movie where two kids are playing final fantasy 8 and they’re both holding controllers

BASED

EVERY tv show/movie from 1983 - 1999 with a character playing a video game

Pac-Man for Atari 2600 sound effects randomly played while the character faces a TV screen off-camera turned to a 45 degree angle

Only women liked that show. It's partly to blame for why video games are so terrible now - because it brought women into """geek culture""" and now they're the ones buying all the games.

*Also it came out in 2007, along with social media.

2007 is when clown world officially began.

1987 --> 2007 = 20 years
2007 --> 2027 = 20 years

it's been nearly 20 years anon. a lot changes in 20 years.

r Malcolm in the Middle when Francis left the military school

was that before or after he dated the korean chick on that farm because I always liked those parts

Before.
After the military he and

this guy

whose name I forgot went to Alaska, then this character was removed from the show and Francis went to farm, and finally he left the farm and got married.
The only shining beacon in those last few seasons were rare appearances of their grandma, Ida.

Two and Half Men

Oh fuck that show, I rather watch a hundred episodes of the Big Bang theory before that, every episode is literally the same

Nintendo 64 emulators are still shit in 2024, imagine in 2008

Mario 64 is normie

The only N64 emulators when this aired were Project64 and Glide64.

he thought the circle was necessary

Remember, TV makes you stupid, kids!

IT Crowd is BBT written by people who BBT thought it appealed to

Yes, because I forgot his name. How else was I supposed to write it?

Francis and this closest guy.

Then you'd twist it and say those 2 are faggots because they are close.

2006-2007 was also normalization of online video games and the actual rise of e-sports with GoW in 2006 and then Halo 3 and CoD 4 in 2007

2007 is also when Burning Crusade came out and really rocketed WoW and MMOs into mass popularity, coming out two months after the South Park WoW episode.

2006 was the PC release of Oblivion with consoles in 2007

Orange Box was 2007

2007 saw the release of both Guitar Hero 3 and Rockband which got a lot of normies into vidya

And lets not forget Assassin's Creed

All this to say 2007 was one of the strongest years in video game releases, arguably the most important year for the Seventh Gen consoles but was also the year video games started to go more mainstream.

it's the tv show that ruined things

The most actually nerdy reference in this show by far

Why did boomers like this show so much?

PROSTAGMA

how to emulate pixel art as a non-pixel artist

BRO JUST MAKE THE RESOLUTION ASS

You can link the big bang theorys decline to the moment sheldon gets a girlfriend
nothing but a slow downward slide from that point on

It's basically the director/producer/whatever the hell he's called not caring about it and trying to save time and money. Setting up something to be working takes time, showing something fake doesn't.
It's like hacker scenes, or that one scene in I think CSI? where they said they had the hacker's HDD while holding a disconnected PSU

My dad spent a good chunk of his life at CalTech, either as a student or as faculty, and absolutely adored bbt. I get the impression that they hit the nail on the head with regards to many jokes

Redditors started existence in 2005, bbt came 2 years later

I always wanted to play the monkey game from House MD

It absolutely does
I went to school with spergs like Sheldon who bought xps laptops to "game on the go"

MITM stayed almost consistently good quality.

Tony Soprano, the left handed and one handed master of Mario Kart 64.

Yes

North American Forest scene

peacock sounds

Every fucking time

He is extremely obnoxious and autistic
he probably would post here if he was real

piracy

huh?

this was the one that made me laguh

probably has autistic writers, they make linux jokes too.

The Simpson has arcades, Bart get a PlayStation 1, a Wii and now PC games.
in South Park, Cartman has PSP, PS4, Xbox 360, Wii, Pokemon, WoW, RDR2, Star Wars Fallen Order, Guitar Hero.

And Okama Gamesphere with Thirst for Blood game, best console ever.

the show has a fairly big high-functioning autistic audience, i noticed.

how many people do you honestly believe were browsing reddit in 2005
