Look, I'll be honest, this whole debacle just makes the gamer community as a whole look terrible.
This is a product going from $60 to $70 to $80 after years without a price change, and in the middle of a massive global recession.
Normal people will take a look at the price of something, and either say "oh, that's a bit too high. maybe I don't need that" or "it's a bit more pricey, but I'm still willing to pay it" and leave it at that. They'd just decide if the price is worth it, and "vote with their wallets".
But these people are going fucking feral at this as if everyone is just a hair away from not being able to afford rent, and a new Mario Kart game brand new is the only thing to remain sane. They're trying to blame anyone who isn't bothered by it for everything wrong with the gaming industry, as if we were just supposed to get $60 games until the end of time.
I really wonder how this looks to an outsider. "What are they so up in arms about? Gas rose double the price in just the past five years, and we're not protesting at Shell or Mobil"
I also learned a whole lot from scrolling through the console's subreddit (wouldn't recommend). I learned that companies don't adjust prices for inflation based on the buying power of a currency, but by the wages of employees at completely different companies. I also learned that inflation isn't even real, and it's all just corporate greed. I also also learned that there are real people out there who wish that a political assassination happened so they could pay less for video games.
