The more I play Morrowind...

The more I play Morrowind, the more convinced I get that we will never have a game setting or narrative as surreal yet believable as Vvardenfell

Where's that shit from and has there ever been any confirmation of truth to it or do we all just accept it as fact? I'm not upset or anything, I just struggle to believe interesting things actually happened.

oh shut up dude

Morrowind babies are embarassing

Skyrim's environments are great honestly. Not as alien as Morrowind but a lot of diversity. Oblivion loses hard compared to either.
What we actually need in Elder Scrolls is good storytelling and characters, which the games have been lacking for a while.

Nah, it has been debunked ages ago. I just like to spread it because I think it's funny

Neither LSD nor psilocybin last that long. You can redose psilocybin easier than LSD but both have insanely diminishing effects if you don't wait 2 weeks to eat more. 12-18 hours is how long an acid trip usually lasts.

picrel

this has been debunked long time ago

I wonder what it would be like to drop acid while on shrooms. I know from
personal experience shrooms are definitely more introspective while lsd has the opposite effect, would be a crazy trip

What we actually need in Elder Scrolls is good storytelling and characters

How confident are you now after Starfield?

Grok is this true?

Skyrim's environments are great honestly

a lot of diversity

With interesting enviornments such as

frozen village

frozen wasteland

frozen wasteland village

frozen village wasteland

Meanwhile in Morrowind

rocky village

rocky wasteland

rocky wasteland village

rocky village wasteland

Still more diverse than Morrowind's Mario mushrooms

Oblivion just keeps on winning. It has three different environments at least and they're fun to explore.

The Special Edition actually changed the drab/cold/gray feeling that the original had by adding more color.

no we won't, the writer was literally on another plane of existence, today even if someone wrote something like this it won't be allowed by suits

I'm hoping to drop out of life and just play morrowind next month with the new release of tamriel rebuilt
I like how the expansions in each game give you comparably alien environments

morro also has northern snowy part and swamps you dishonest fuck

If anything, Skyrim had way less snowy/frozen environments than it should've.

Fuck off Oblivion was awful, 90% of the game was forest and the other 10% was snowy mountains.

b-but the marsh

Fuck off the southern marsh was pathetic.

Obviously not true, you would never lock yourself inside on acid you would go outside on a long adventure and maybe scare people with your saucer pupils in an attempt to communicate because you think you are normal.

Skyrim also has north western mountain parts and swamps you dishonest fuck

why does no one discuss daggerfall or arena? is everyone on this board really that young? morrowind wasn't the first scrolls game you know

Anon Babble is generally a young board with a low tolerance for old PC games (clunky, janky)
try Anon Babble

Daggerfall is one of those faux old flag games, when people that actually play old games know it's a mediocre dungeon crawler. But the entire series is mediocre so it's good to see them maintain that quality

I tried both several times, but I keep getting filtered by the starter dungeon and move on to newer shinier things.

It's an awful dungeon crawler with interesting (for the time) roleplaying features that are undermined by the fact that they exist to funnel you into the terrible dungeons.

Why does no one discuss daggerfall

Because you're so brand new it hurts. You didn't look in vrpg and you don't even know about all the Daggerfall Unreal engine mod threads we had for almost an entire summer. The honest to god answer is that there were other fps dungeon crawling games that were significantly better.

I think Daggerfall does some interesting and cool stuff but it's coated in a lot of jank, it's still really good for messing around for a dozen hours or so but going into it blind is just not an option. The Unity remake is also pretty much mandatory.

The Elder Scrolls is one of the definitive open world franchises and Arena and Daggerfall has a lot of that as well but there's literally nothing to it all. Most places are copy pasted and the rest are random generated and you'll always be fast traveling because there's no point to the actual wilderness besides acting as distance between settlements and dungeons.
They just didn't hold up well over time, Morrowind is a lot less arcane in it's presentation than the first two and that still filters like 95% of modern gamers.

The Daggerfall dungeon is easy as Hell if you know where to go and what to do but Arena, yeah...

Morrowind was baby's first rpg because it was on xbox. Most of this board wasn't alive when 1 and 2 came out. Im almost 40 and never played arena

You do realize he could take multiple doses across days?

There’s no evidence that MK does psychedelics, and the pic of him in his underwear is from comedy sketch he did.
The meme that any vaguely novel idea is the sole product of drugs is peak NPC thinking

dood no one could ever come up with a new idea unless they le puffed le magic dragon XDD

Walking through Molag Amur with an unkillable cliff racer pecking at your asshole is more fun than wading through slightly hilly grassy "forest" #38928 where all you will ever find are imps and wolves and bland ass caves with no loot in them

While Morrowind seems to have a lot of "psychedelic" type shit you'd expect someone taking mushrooms to come up with, that's mostly aesthetics. The Kirkbride lore shit was mostly written on a "functional" alcoholic + just at the edge of psychosis amphetamine binge (t.amphetamine pro)

MK's writing style only invokes an idea of drug-addled psychosis because he's deliberately mimicking actual schizos like Aleister Crowley. If he was actually fucked up on drugs he wouldn't be anywhere remotely as consistent and coherent in his writing.

It's simple bethesda doesn't have the creative chops for another elven TES game. If you want evidence, look at Starfield, It was a blank slate for them and what did they do? One of the most insipid and fucking unimaginative scifi settings to be shat out on the human race. Expect human TES games for now on. even then they can barely even do those justice. They get mogged a hundred times over by unpaid modders.

He could have gotten wasted on drugs, written down a bunch of nonsense then cleaned it up into something coherent while sober. That's how Stephen King wrote Cujo, only he was drunk instead of high.

Modern Bethesda games are the equivalent of getting an elite orchestra together, but the composer and conductor are Larry and Earl, the local used car salesmen.

His finished writings that make it *into* games, yes.
Half his forum posts and other little lore addendum are clearly written under the influence, though. The guy isn't "only writing while le high XDDDD" but he's still absolutely a guy who gets high and uses that to fuel his creativity sometimes.

Dread Delusion is pretty decent if you're looking for a weird fucking world to get lost in.

I still believe, but I know I shouldn't.

Isn't Morrowind's epic deep lore just repackaged indian mythology? Hell even the aesthetics of the game are indian-inspired (And no not just because eveything looks like a brown wasteland)

Well, dang, this is the wrong thread.
Call me a faggot and I'll be on my way.

bot post

Not if you want a good game to play

It's indian mixed with hebrew.

not much to say about daggerfall.Really cool game tho if you consider the time it released.

Nah I think Kirkbride is naturally a little bit crazy. He says he has a form of synesthesia which comes through in some of his writing.

Morrowind was their "lightning in a bottle" game
Nothing has come close to the blend of fantasy they tried to create. There are problems, sure, such as the lack of npc's in hubs (would slow pc's to a crawl if they added more) and the combat is pure jank, but the world was so captivating that it was easy to overlook all the jank. Hell, it was part of the charm.
Oblivion on the other hand could be considered the modern equivalent of "slop"

cover everything in bloom

blow budget on heckin celebrity VA's like picard and seen been

meanwhile getting like 3 people to voice literally everyone else which also blows the bank while simultaneously removing the yuge text lore dumps that were so prevalent in morrowind that helped give meaning to the world

use rng to create open plains of grass

use rng to dot in dungeons so there's something to do

add in fast travel because it's a fucking slog trudging through rng plains of grass

quite possibly one of the worst rpg plots ever conceived where your job is to babysit a pissy and moany seen been so he can be the bvll in the final epic battle while you watch from the cuck chair

horse armor dlc

I could go on but you get the idea. Oblivion wasn't bad but I distinctly remember it being disappointing and just made me want to play Morrowind again

It has indian elements among others (no small amount of gnosticism, in particular) but is fundamentally its own thing.
