[Sad news] Devs won't see a dime from price increases
[Sad news] Devs won't see a dime from price increases
Many have been saying this about Timmy Tencent but no one is listening.
Good. They should be paid less.
i don't care about developers honestly
raise the price then
i'm so sympathetic please give me upvotes
I don't want to pay 80$ for games
Okay buy and indie game
NOOOOO I NEED THE NEW UBI/ACTI/MICRO/SONY/TENDIE/EASLOP
Okay then whatever faggot.
redditors are fags
woah!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Why don't you just support indies?
good
because they deserve it
what is this disease to care about developers like they are your family?
if some car builders are laid off no one bats an eye and isn't going to the internet and scream buy car XYZ because it supports the guys that build cars
dumb as shit
reddit nintendies going through the 5 stages of grief
unironically on bargaining
how long till they stop caring and consuuuuuuuuuuuuume
A lot of them are pajeets so I don’t care. We should just enslave them tbdesu.
OP literally browsing reddit for screencaps of random retards to post on Anon Babble
Not getting told to fuck off and kill himself for being a faggot
A shameful turn of events
Good. And what's better, redditors caused this.
yeah go buy indie games instead of virtusignalling on plebbit
also op a fag
Good.
The company would not exist it wasn't for me investing my money along with others. I am the one taking the risk of actually losing something, where the employees are making a paycheck no matter what.
I deserve a reward for putting up my capital.
Then buy indie? Half the time they just give the entire game for free.
huh? they already dont see most of it
majority of that money goes to the shareholders or the company itself, actual developers are only making their wages
Nintendo employees in Japan are very well compensated.
Nintendo doesn't count.
I remember many had that same argument for the $70 increase. Also no DLC and higher quality games.
Blumphf Jew tariffs
Cause of collectivist Nippon culture
I mean that’s just bullshit
The price increase is due to increase in wages
Good.
It literally says in the image it's above average even for that culture
Digital products aren't tariffed thougheverbeit wtf are these dummies crying about
So why does Nintendo keep raising salaries while hiring more people?
preddit screencap as the OP
not instantly banned
This website is dogshit. I can't believe Anon Babble has fallen to such a worthless level, and that it's STILL one of the best websites to come to discuss anything.
Do you actually believe this?
en.wikipedia.org
as of right now there are no devs deserving of oxygen
what's stopping devs who want a bigger cut and the devs who got laid off from starting their own studio?
Good
The execs don’t make the trash slop we get nowadays it’s the devs, they should be paid less if anything.
Whos the 1.2%?
If they weren't total cucks, they'd start a union.
They all voted for decades for wage compression and now they're complaining? I swear everyone is economically illiterate.
They literally did this in the 80s. Activision genuinely split off from Atari because they were sick of Atari treating devs as mere tools to ship games out.
Women.
Prejudice against communism.
reddit grew 1 brain cell
This is a very powerful topic.
It ends up shit. just look at yookie gaylee
expidition with its low pricepoint proves this narrative is bullshit, xbox for examply is only increasing the price because they see nintendo getting away with it and another example rockstar and their marketing..i.. mean game "journalists" musing that gta6 should be 100 bucks all started before any trump tariff ideas
Based and 4channeler pilled my fellow Anon Babbleitizen. Here, you earned this (You)!
maybe they should make good games then
nothing but startup capital, but for that you can get loans and investors... Clair Obscur showed this
and there other genres of games they can make that aren't as labor intensive
Autistic fan boys who were able to hide their power levels long enough to get hired. Then right away spazzed the fuck out.
Why should I give a shit if corporate devs owned by AAA publishers get paid more money for churning out "AAA" slop? I hate redditors so fucking much.
The vast majority of devs don't deserve it though. In fact most of them deserved ro be fired just as much as the managers and executives do.
not my problem
DEVS DESERVED TO BE PAID WHAT THEY'RE WORTH
Nintendo (a company with a history of treating its employees very well) raises prices on games and doesn't give a game away for free
ANTI-CONSUMER, HOW EVIL IS NINTENDO WHY CAN'T THEIR DEVS WORK FOR FREE?
This is how game publishing works. It's much like publishing for other things, but this is how it works with games.
1) Developer shows game concepts to publisher
2) Publisher likes their idea and funds the project
3) The project is finished, shipped, and sold
4) Depending on sales, the publishers will fund the next project or dissolve the developer
The second part is crucial, the PUBLISHER, FUNDS, the project.
Meaning they are taking a risk on funding your project. If your project flops, it doesn't matter how talented, how unique, how interesting, whatever, you won't get funded again, because you failed to make the money back.
This is the way it's been forever. If you want money, you can not sell out to a publisher. Look at Eric Barone, he worked on Stardew Valley for damn near a decade by himself, and now he's got hundreds of millions.
This makes me feel a little better but I wish the prices didn't go up
If Nintendo was in the US it would be hit with so much labor lawsuits just based on how the work culture and how much dedication they ask of their employees to basically live their every waking moment for the job. The US can't compete with that kind of labor because it is either illegal or nobody would want to do it. Same goes with those Chinese sweat shops.
DAE think JAPAN BAD upvotes to the left please
Anon, no! The ninтendrones and weebshitters are gonna freak!
the people who adopt none of the risk should still reap all of the reward
Fuck off, commie
If these devs want a fair piece of the pie then they can put their money where their mouth is and pay for the game to be developed themselves. Nobody is stopping them from forming their own little co-op studio. But they don't want to because they know it's risky. And that is why they don't get anything more than a standard salary with performance based bonuses.
I’d work jap hours for an first world, high tech ethnostate.
[greed news] microsoft posted year over year profits before raising prices
Japanese work for Japan, Americans work for the jews
That's a myth. It's well documented that the Japanese are some of the most unproductive workers in the developed world. They like to think they're the hardest workers in the world and keep telling everyone that but it's not true. Just like how within Australia all Australians think they have a reputation for being had workers but in reality they're actually quite lazy.
if Nintendo games were developed in the U.S., it would be illegal and no one would want to do it
Anon...
Yeah they wont cuz I ain't buying that shit nigga
It's not fully a myth. It's not in every job neither is it even looked upon with a positive light but it absolutely still exists as a social culture surrounding work life balance.
Are there any devs who get a cut of the sales (outside of indies)?
Devs are paid a salary, and publishers control the prices. No shit you won’t see anything unless you have a bonus based on revenue. Last year the only reason I got a bonus was because my company laid off a lot of employees and restructured.
Yes. Bonuses are a thing.
If you’re executive, besides getting fired, there isn’t any risk for them. Owners, yeah. They’re taking a risk. Executives will get bonuses.
Employees get bonuses too. And they're usually linked to performance metrics for everyone including executives.
devs are way oveerpaid, look at the shit they make
because if you befriend devs you get free stuff
Oh, and I also forgot the big names often have employee share schemes so they have the option to get dividends too.
poor devs
not being paid 5k+ salaries every month to sit in front of a computer doing nothing
it must be hard
iwata
Not to mention they have this problem where seniority always supersedes common sense. If you're older and you worked at the company, you can trash a whole game because you didn't like something the younger devs did.
the Prime series being a perfect example. Even though it had a western studio, japanese higher-ups were still allowed to basically throw away anything they wanted. Samus isn't even allowed to be a bounty hunter because miyamoto and sakamoto and sakurai and whoever hate the idea of bounty hunting, and they regret ever giving her that title in earlier games. It also caused ALOT of executive meddling, which is why Metroid Prime 3 is such a mess.
missing the obvious point
passive agressive tone
Either retarded or faggot.
you can trash a whole game because you didn't like something the younger devs did
This is why both Aonuma and Miyamoto need to leave the company. Between Miyamoto's constant retcons and his "my way or the highway" attitude I believe that there is a very real chance he disparaged DKC, even if it didn't happen 100% the way the quote went.
Indie games suck.
They should make good games then
classic ameritard licking boots. you'll never be one of them.
The social culture is about saving face. Pretending. Same thing as the Chinese, it's just an asian thing. You don't clock out before your boss but half your day will be spent playing gacha in your desk while he drinks with his superiors and has some of the new girls blow him or something. Nippon will be great again.
Epic. Simply epic own my friend! Cheers!

But unsurprising, old Anon Babble and internet in general is pretty much dead.
Fat Jews always win in any business, and hard workers get the short of the stick.
if the government would just disband all the largest game studios, opportunity would flow like wine again. large game studios employ too many useless idiots and foreigners and women and woke PR people and HR departments etc.... they spend the money on stupid shit too like "why white people need to stfu and bow they head" meetings etc. no wonder the actual devs dont get paid enough
in a perfect world you could just stick 20 talented people in a big room and they vote on which game idea to make and it gets done hyper efficiently, under budget, and super fast. its all the untalented morons roadblocking thats the issue
Why do they deserve it?
People say feelgood shit like it's the most common sense on the planet.
Goods and services, motherfucker, you didn't make a game, you got paid to be one cog in the machine making the game and you did that job which is what you got paid for. You're not entitled to more money if a game sells for more just like builder isn't entitled to more money every time a house payment is made or a car assembly worker when the care they helped assemble gets resold.
Fuck off with this commie shit. Games don't need to cost more, and devs don't deserve to be paid more just because a game makes more money.
Also who gives a fuck? AAA industry is falling apart at a meteoric rate. The best games to come out in more than a year have all been $60 and less. $80 is just going to be a red flag to not buy for anyone with an IQ above 12, the future is AA and Indie.
lol, where do you think people went when Anon Babble went down?
not my problem
I'd probably feel bad if they weren't such unlikeable people.
Games are already $100.
I'm so tired of this narrative that games haven't gone up in price until current gen and that $70 is somehow the price of a videogame now. It's all manipulation of the truth.
First of all, tech is, has always been, and will always be deflationary, meaning games staying the same price as a baseline would have already been compensation for inflation in a way that people misuse the concept.
Secondly, games are now almost entirely digital, removing any physical cost games had attached to them prior, meaning the price should be going down as there is no increase in resource cost based on volume.
But instead we got:
Gen 5 - $50 full game.
Gen 6 - $60 full game.
Gen 7 - $60 base game + $10 for deluxe edition = $70 for a full game.
Gen 8 - $60 base game + $20 for deluxe edition + $30 for pass = $110 for a full game.
Gen 9 - $70 base game + $30 for deluxe edition + $40 for pass = $140 for a full game.
Not only have games gone up in price, you've actively been receiving less of the game for your money.
Also everyone is using inflation incorrectly. Inflation is measured by a specific set of perishable goods including eggs, milk, butter, etc... It's meant to be used as a retrospective lens to put in context change in value of raw currency over time, not to justify alteration to prices in real-time. It was never meant to be a conversion formula because mechanical automation, cross breeding and genetic engineering for more bountiful and resilient crops and livestock, as well as discoveries and developments of more efficient electronics materials and manufacturing techniques drive the cost of production down over time, not up. Inflation is chasing margins, not cost. I wish people would stop acting like inflation is some great indicator of needs or means instead of what it actually is, an economical rear-view mirror.
Yes, you clearly don’t understand the layoffs are just over correcting for the excessive hires over Covid
Neither will the executives either because I will not buy.
Fuck if I know. I am genuinely internet homeless without Anon Babble. I did weird shit like GOING OUTSIDE.
And just to give you an idea of how retarded "inflation" is.
One of the predetermined items used to calculate inflation is a dozen eggs.
If there is an outbreak of Avian flu in the distribution network it results in a massive purge of poultry, this means egg-laying hens and eggs. As a result egg prices can easily as much as double in price until the breeding stock recovers. Running calculations at this time could put tens of points of percentage on the inflation. But it's not really an inflation.
See, everyone knows inflation is "A percentage increase." But nobody thinks about how that percentage is caluculated. They think it's "game cost X 20 years ago, game need cost Y now" and no, that's not how it works. That's not inflation, that's not how it works. Stop using inflation you fucking morons.
Post nose.
Inflation, whether your definition or the too much money chasing too few goods kind, is simply total bullshit. Pricing is arbitary and competitive yet weirdly cooperative. When one business in one industry prices a certain way the rest will follow, especially when they know they have a captive market. It's the same way a single house being appraised by a certain value magically makes nearby houses, no matter how shitty, more valuable, and by overvaluing half a neighborhood, you raise the value on the other shithole half that just so happen to be in the hands of real estate/feudal barons. All grocery stores are literally conspiring to raise prices, all food manufacturers conspire to shrink quantities and add filler/borderline sawdust to food, and all video game companies are raising prices and engaging in predatory practice because they finally caught on, they got the memo: they can, no one will stop them, and their customers have nowhere to run (except piracy which Nintendo is half-heartedly attempting to fight; at least we have that whereas for food you have to grow it yourself I guess).
Also see the retro game market for the most absurdly overvalued, fraudulently inflated bubble. The markets are run by a literal cartel of retro game hoarders who buy and sell their games to each other at ridiculous prices, creating the illusion of demand and raising the bar, the entry point, for dupes to buy the games. It's most evident in Pokemon which shoud have some of the highest supply out there yet commands retard prices. Not all games are like this, Earthbound has always been high for example, but the general inflation you see is a product of hoarders seeing what they can get away with, and the handful of independent sellers/thrifting hustlers realizing they would be stupid to sell a game for under the cartel price.
Is there a single other industry where the consumers are such fucking nannys where they worry about the pay and working conditions of the people they're buying shit from?
I've worked in the Japanese game industry as a programmer for 5 years now. The work culture is really not that much worse than in America. The stories I hear from coworkers who have been in it 30 years sound hellish but I've worked with a lot of different companies at this point and usually it only gets bad around deadlines, which is essentially what I hear about the games industry all over the world.
Nintendo seems pretty insular though, I haven't worked with them so I can't comment on how bad it gets. At least I'm pretty sure they are compensated better than most places I've worked.
Back to plebbit with your dumb ass.
Why should I care? Im the consumer, just give what I want what happens to you it aint my problem, Im literally so it isnt my problem, just give me the fucking commodity
Execs are the ones coming up with and/or approving trash slop. Devs are the ones pretending that they aren't playing a part in child gambling addictions.
maybe those "devs" should sign better contracts.
Virtue signalling on reddit
It doesn't make sense for game prices to go up if dev salaries aren't also going up. Devs don't deserve a job just for existing though, if the game sucks it's likely that the devs for that game don't deserve anything.
It's hardly unique to game devs. Profits have very little relation to the wages of workers in any industry.
The actual answer to whether that's good or bad is "it depends", but commies and lolberts hate nuance.
