Arkham/Bamham thread

I gotta revise my position. Every year or so I play all the Arkham games and to my surprise theres a way to play as Joker in the PC version(hes terrible btw). My list has been for years
Knight>Asylum>City>powergap>Origins
But I gotta be real, Asylum, while fun at the time, and easy to forgive as a first game, is undercooked, way too easy, and by no means a better game than Origins. Origins story may fucking suck, but Asylums gameplay is so watery and loose I have to change my list to
knight>city>origins>asylum.
Also I know everyone warned me against Gotham Knights, but I will be playing Gotham Knights next, I have zero desire to play Soosyeskwa

Asylum is better than Origins because the punches sounds cooler

Actually, City is the best one

Origins story may fucking suck

The map also sucks compared to City, the targets all suck and you barely if at all investigate them, Joker hogging the spotlight again ruins the story in the second half, and the fact that Predator upgrades are missable very early on leaving you at level 3 or 5 is inexcusable.

Those are all my complains too. I also don't think they ever fixed the bugs in the PC port at least. I did like it but it's very easily the worst one.

Origins is the best Arkham game.

They fixed some
But in my run I had 5ish guys spawn inside of steelbeams so I had to slowly kill them with batarangs, also Batman would sometimes get stuck navigating from bareground to rug thats 1cm off the ground. The whole experience is very buggy in an unfun way such that some shit doesnt work right.
Most notably in my challenge runs enemies will fuckin go to attack you, the counter symbol pops up, and then they turn around and stop so you counter nothing and now your combo is dead

That said, in terms of gameplay
Knight > City > Asylum > Origins (Origins gives you certain abilities locked behind late game enemies)
In terms of story
Asylum > Knight > Origins > City
(City literally can be summed up as: Batman desperately needs Joker's cock and will do anything to have it back in his bat-ass)

Asylum: Kind of has a Atelier Totori effect on me, in which while it's clearly mechanically dated compared to the other games the pacing absolutely does it for me, it's the one game i feel the most joy by just booting it up and playing start to finish

City: Ruined my fucking life by making me extremely critical of collectibles in game, because fuck you i love getting those Riddler quesitonmarks Jesus Christ, something about doing an insignificant light puzzle to acquire them just fills me with a kind of primal satisfaction that i can't properly explain, it's because of this fucking game that the most fun i have in Breath of The Wild is getting those fucking koroks fuck you ToTK for ruining koroks and fuck you Sonic Frontiers you should have been a fucking homerun with your collect'a'thon premise but you fucked it up. Overall i think i still like Asylum more but it's a tough one, City is amazing

Origins: Not a fan, i don't like Roger Craig Smith, i don't like that there's no yellow belt in the suit, in fact the game as a whole looks really monochromatic, for years i've heard tales about how amazing the Deathstroke fight is but that shit is mostly cutscenes that keeps repeating what is so amazing about that, i mean i haven't finished the game and i intend to do it at some point but i don't feel the drive

Knight: Fuck complaining about the batmobile, why can't i turn Batman torwards the camera? What the fuck is that strafing bullshit? And man the gadget wheel compared to the D-Pad just fucking sucks, the UI in general feels like something you have to fight against in that game, i'd never let my dad play it and he's a huge Batman fan. We did have a laugh at that moment when the man bat shows up out of nowhere on top of that building though, that was cool, and man the game looks gorgeous especially nowdays where modern game looks like absolute ass, but playing it is kinda painful

Citys biggest problem is Hugo Strange fucking sucking and constantly needing to remind Batman via intercom that "Im totally gonna tell everyone who you are batman" which loses its luster and urgency after hour 2 just for you to show up and beat his ass in 2 and a half minutes

It lost the fucking moment you play as Bruce and meet Penguin in the first five minutes and he realizes you're Batman but for whatever reason, it's forgotten about

The entire plot of City was doomed from the start.
Originally as a way to convince people to buy the game new/don't rent a copy, instead of buying second hand was that 'the Catwoman DLC is pivotal to the story and you need it but it can only be gotten on DLC codes in new editions' which got major backlash and it turned out all the Catwoman DLC did was explain that she robbed Two-face and that's why she got caught and was abtu to be shot

Overall City is a fucking mess from the start, before the game was even released butit was hailed as 'good' for the few things it did right, like enabling Batman to have better combat with the beatdown but ultimately it sucks in every other way and felt less like a Batman Arkham game and more like a fucking 'I have a boyfriend who I love, I want him back' relationship sim

you play as Bruce and meet Penguin in the first five minutes and he realizes you're Batman but for whatever reason

He doesn't though?

BRUCE WAYNE IS UNDER ARREST

and for some reason everyone is cool with it

also we locked off a significant portion of Gotham to make a prison island

and everyone is also cool with that

People clown knight for being stupid but.......

Penguin hates bruce because he ruined his racketeering businesses.
He hates Bats because he fights crime

I'd put Asylum over Origins due to how Rocksteady was able to faithfully translate the overall gritty and desolate vibe of the asylum from the comics into the game. As well as that, and correct me if I am wrong, but I remember this is the only game where Batman has the ultra batclaw that lets you grab 3 enemies at the same time.

Except no one is cool with it, the game literally starts with a protest against the prison, the only reason it came to be is because Quincy Sharp not only is a lunatic, as we learned from Asylum, but also he was given a lot of power by Hugo who's being backed by a man who's had multiple lifetimes to hoard a fortune
The game absolutely could have done more to show the opposition against the facility, like the president stepping in to oppose a decision made by a mayor or something, but the citzens, the police and the media were clearly shown to be against it

Arkham is a trilogy. Origins is actual garbage and doesn't deserve to be included in any discussion about the franchise.

What the fuck is wrong with rocksteady

Knight is still disappointing shit even 10 years later.

No one was okay with it but Strange was backed and protected by the government. Cops and even the military legally couldn't do anything but stand outside and watch. Even if you're willing to break the law to stop this shit, you'd have to be insane to actually try. Only Batman and his buddies could reasonably do anything. Let's say there are other superheroes around at this time, the situation is still too small scale for them to help. They have their own cities to protect and going to stop another one of the revolving door of psychopaths from taking over this hellhole isn't worth their time.

Knight blows the stakes out of the water. Scarecrow and the Arkham Knight are just crazy people threatening to essentially nuke an entire part of the country with a chemical weapon. This is in no way a small issue that only Batman and the dwindling police force of Gotham should be handling on their own. After millions of people were evacuated from a major city, the army should've been there and shut this shit down within hours. We don't even have to talk about all the other superheroes that Knight makes direct references to although that pretty much sums it up. The very premise of Knight has a gaping plot hole they never even try to address, it's stupid.

I just played it and I was shocked at how good it was, I'm not even a fan of the series but the car shit was amazing

Knight is easily the best
Sorry you got filtered by the best game

...what?

It lost the fucking moment you play as Bruce and meet Penguin in the first five minutes and he realizes you're Batman but for whatever reason, it's forgotten about

The Penguin literally says Bruce's family ruined his life, it has absolutely nothing with him knowing Bruce being Batman or not

it turned out all the Catwoman DLC did was explain that she robbed Two-face and that's why she got caught and was abtu to be shot

You can also get that info interview tapes that you get from collecting Riddler trophies, where it's revealed Hugo told Catwoman she can rob Harvey, and then Hugo told Harvey that Catwoman is robbing him. You didn't need DLC for that

Overall City is a fucking mess from the start,

It has some flaws but it wouldn't say it's a mess

but ultimately it sucks in every other

Wrong

and felt less like a Batman Arkham game and more like a fucking 'I have a boyfriend who I love, I want him back' relationship sim

What the fuck are you talking about?

(City literally can be summed up as: Batman desperately needs Joker's cock and will do anything to have it back in his bat-ass)

City wasn't about saving Joker, dumbass
Bruce was fine dying with Joker until Joker told him that he poisoned Gotham.

It means he thinks you're either underage or of a darker compelxion. Post feet as proof of age and ethnicity

i don't like Roger Craig Smith

He's so much better than fucking old man Conroy in Knight. I can't stand listening to a frail old man's voice coming out of Batman, it's distracting.

He could be good, same as a troy baker joker could be good, but its clear theyre just aping conroy and hamill which is gay

I don't like when he starts screaming and threatening in Knight, felt a little too Christian Bale'y for my liking, but otherwise i think his normal voice was fine

>and for some reason everyone is cool with it

woah dude it's almost like gotham is a corrupt shithole or something

knight>city

I don't dislike Knight, but there's no way it's beating out City for me.

in knight

You mean in Origins? Kevin Conroy was his usual self in Knight, I don’t remember him ever shouting except in Origins, which was supposed to be “undisciplined batman.”

Seriously though, Kevin Conroy sucked ass in his last couple of performances as Batman. Its like Knight was the last time he would ever give a shit then he phones in Injustice 2 and just uses basically his normal voice.

huge fan of Man

I'm currently playing Arkham Origins Blackgate
On its own, it's an interesting 2D Batman game, and is probably the 2D Batman game ever. The combat is heavily simplified, but it's still fun to play with

This anon is lying, the game is trash. Complete ass.

I think its funny that they recently retconned that game as canon.

Not to give Conroy the out but Injustice models and writing dont call for great voice acting anyway. Bruce holding an irreconcilable grudge for him accidentally killing nightwing is bullshit and regular non NRS Bruce would have acted totally differently

everyone is cool with it

The first thing you see in the game is Bruce speaking at an event protesting Arkham City's creation and that hot bitch Vicki Vale noting that Arkham City has been controversial.

I always figured it's because of Joker's influence. He gets worse the further in the game you get.

Keywords here are "on its own"
Doesn't Arkham Shadow consider that game canon?
Haven't played that

Haven't played that

If you like action platformers from the era, you should. It's similar to the NES Ninja Gaiden games and it's a lot of fun.

similar to the NES Ninja Gaiden games

Fuck your bait thread nigger, Origins is absolute dogshit and you know it.
Asylum absolutely shines as a metroidvania and imo has the best pacing and map flow out of all the games.

I'm kinda weird that the game being janky or having bullshit difficulty since that was the norm for NES games

metroidvania

Its as much a metroidvania as any other bamham game and theyre all overly linear such that recognizing them as metroidvania belittles the genre

points out why the DLC was a scam

retard confirms it and acts like it's a bad thing

Anon, stop that

I wasn't disagreeing with the DLC being bad

Catwoman also fucking sucks to play as, these games need more robin/nightwing action

Shut up bitch.
Asylum is a metroidvania, which is why it's the most fun to play.
City is considered open-world by redditors.
Knight is even more "open-world".

But I cant get to the next storybeat unless I get the gogogadget batweiner that the game conveniently points me to

Why were the Arkham games so insistent on everything taking place in one night? The average Arkham Game takes and average of 15 hours just to beat the main story, with over 50 hours for completionists.

Even the speedruns where the player skips all the cutscenes and cheats by exploiting bugs take many hours.

Same shit happens in Zelda, what's your point?

So zelda is a metroidvania to you?

Breath of the Wild is definitely open world you stupid nigger.

Arkham asylum is open world, its just a small map

Only thing Im watching are the insides of my eyelids, playboy
