Console command "r.fog 0". 1 is the "on" setting but turning it off eats your FPS. Personally I wish there was a setting to make it ~50%, that's be just right.

I played the original at release on appropriate hardware and I'm playing the remaster on release on appropriate hardware. Both feel exactly the same to me as far as everything goes. 10/10 remaster.
If you played them back to back you could make a better comparison. The momentum the character has in the remaster feels really bad, and the fog everywhere ruins the aesthetics. Those 2 things made me go back to the original.

I've never installed a mod. You're completely wrong on both counts. They are cool gimmicks, nothing more. Most of the time you can't complete a full playthrough with them, since they break, so they are mostly for youtube videos.

how is a screenshot of you having high fps in one area supposed to prove you don't have low fps in other areas? and sure, a 5080 is like 5%, maybe 10% more powerful than it's 40 series counterpart but that is nowhere near the extra performance needed to go from 1440p30 to 4k60

I think I just hate remasters. At least remakes have some merit. They're able to implement things the developers might have wanted or do differently if they had another chance. Say what you will about FF7 remake but it's a completely new experience and if you want the original it's still there to enjoy.

The remaster looks great, I'm having a lot of fun. It's super cool to see Oblivion in high definition, and I think they've done a pretty good job staying faithful to it's original visuals, but in a more realistic style ofc rather than Oldblivion's painting esque look. It's a little bit too orange tinted, but it looks great most of the time.
Also the gameplay improvements are all very much welcome. The only singular issue I've come so far is that two handed swords are borderline useless, because they're insanely slow now and their damage don't make up for the lost speed.

it wasn't just scale, it rendered a large open world, had very impressive real time physics for an open world game of that magnitude, had characters with their own schedules that allowed them to roam around, eat and sleep (a rare novelty back then) you also had stuff like blood rendering on your weapon, or enemies ragdolling, or being able to drop/move items and it all happened seamlessly
I don't think you really grasp how impressive it was for Oblivion to do all of this AND look as good as it did, even with its technical issues, even the aforementioned Fable didn't didn't compare technically to what Oblivion was achieving
