Assuming you take away the gameplay element since people are heavily subjective on turn based games, there is NOTHING you can criticize the game about. The graphics are amazing, the story is well written, the characters feel like real people, the soundtrack is amazing, the world is beautiful and you can see the soul of the game.

I did though. I played it for 15 hours on gsmepass. The levels are ugly, empty and boring to traverse. The combat has no depth or strategy because its just dependent on dodging and parrying everything. The writing is generic melodrama. I just don't think it does anything particularly well besides the music. I genuinely don't understand the hype

The people in the canvas arent real people, but none of them are going to bring that up, talk to you about it, or suffer an existential crisis.
The primary antagonist becomes your father who wants you to stop sitting in the canvas forever (Which WILL kill you) and maelle throws a hissy fit about not wanting to do that. None of the other characters are allowed to give any argument, not even "hey destroying the canvas will kill us and we'd rather you didnt."
And in absurdist fashion, right before the final boss your father literally asks you "What does verso want." and verso is not allowed to answer. Then post boss fight he explicitly tells you "Actually I think dad was right and you should leave"
