Max Payne 2 was the first game where the physics wowed me. You start the game in a hospital, run around a bit, pick up a gun and then shoot a guy who's standing next to a shelf full of medical supplies. He flies back, naturally, hits the shelf and all kind of stuff falls down. I remember being really impressed.

Already Morrowind and Max Payne had good physic engines. Half life`s HAVOC engine, was in fact shitty one. Trespasser was littearlly 6 years before HL2 too. Open Dynamics Engine was used since 2001 etc.
It was not nearly as amazing as you make it look, and became just a gimmic over years (when selling separate PhysiX cards failed). Max Payne already was more impressive before HL2.
