here's how it works. true story btw. I got a sudden shark pain on the stomach. I go to the local hospital. True that I had to wait like 3 hours, but after that doc seems me. He tells me to do 3 different exams (immediately). I go and do all 3. I see the doctor again he tells me I gotta have surgery the next day because I have acute appendicitis. Go home and grab a small bag with clothing. come back and check in. Have surgery early next day. Recover for 3 days in the hospital and get sent home with prescription drugs. Some time later go back to the hospital so that the doc can see how I'm doing. I'm doing fine thank you very much. Doctor tells me great have a nice day.
Total bill, including the medication: 60€.

Yeah, "free" (taxpayer-paid) healthcare is a hit or miss. Outrageous long lines are very common, and if you are poor nobody and don't have a medic in family you are less likely to recieve treatment. I think it still is better than ridiculous prices in USA though. I wish I knew and had a power to incorporate a better solution.
