Because of this many people inherently believe ANY game with fan service means it can never have good gameplay. I believe this is false, and like to point towards fighting games as throughout their lifetime, consistently kept fan service characters yet kept on going with fans and sales (arguable of course, see MK, SNK). I'd like to believe that it is normal to be suspect that fan service might mean a drop of gameplay, but not outright believe any means no gameplay. This works the other way around for hgames too.
