Unironically the best and least clunky combat in the series

Unironically the best and least clunky combat in the series

Real time stat-based combat are always clunky in some way. Morrowind is probably the only correct example, everything makes perfect sense when you think about it.

Kill yourself morrownigger

Unironically i would rather do real time dice roll combat than melee combat in oblivion/skyrim. I can enjoy oblivion.skyrim now that i realized melee combat will never be good in them but casting is OK.

cherry picking reviews makes my argument better than i ever could

fucking KEK. a great scholar among skyrim fans you are!

Arena is better than Shitwind.
Daggerfall is better than Shitwind.
Oblivion is better than Shitwind.
Skyrim is better than Shitwind.
TES Online is better than Shitwind.

sorry to hear you got filtered. Maybe more brain cells will grow in when you get out of elementary school.

Based

wish bethesda would just ape jedi academy combat

TES Online is better than Shitwind.

You went too far with this one

least clunky

This is actually true. Way faster and easier to play than other TESs.

If that were true, playing melee in Morrowind wouldn't suck dick

What does this prove?

That he loves cock.

It doesn't suck. Just spam M1. It's easy and fast, none of that stagger bullshit for the most part.

trannywind

doing a hlaalu quest where you have to sabotage a prisoner's rescue

find lady who I'm supposed to be working with to rescue the prisoner

she puts an amulet of invis on the table

ah, I see how I can sabotage this mission

get all the NPCs in the room to face away from me and the amulet

go invisible with a potion

game says I'm 100% hidden

use telekinetic scroll

grab it from 40 feet away

DIE FETCHER (you have been expelled from Hlaalu)

fucking seriously?? There is literally no possible way I could do it more perfect and sneakily.

reload it 10 times

keeps happening

bust out the command prompt and boost my sneak level

finally lets me get away with it

reset it back to what it was before

I feel bad, but I shouldn't. Sneak is so retarded in Morrowind.

Taking an action breaks invisibility. You wanted 100% chameleon instead (which is much harder to achieve magically than invisibility).

It proves that the series became more plebian over time. I don't know why that anon posted that.

Any good openmw modding tutorials out there?

argonian.jpg - 474x618, 63.34K

Google mod openmw and choose a mod list.

No like making mods.

*BRAAAAAP* *BLUB BLUB BLUB BLUB* *BRAAAAp*
White Men only, troons can't into Morrowinds ruleset

It's literally the most tranny-friendly of the games, it's the New Vegas of TES games

Not Sload_watermark.mp4

faggot

Nah :^)

Told i need to help some fetcher do a quest for house hlaalu where he has to sabotage a prisoner's rescue

He comes to see me to begin planning

put an amulet of invis on the table to remind me to use it later

me and my friends turn our back on this guy for 2 seconds

next thing we know hes no where to be seen, day immediately improved

my magic amulet starts sliding along the table and floating across the room

my eyes follow its trajectory and some 40 feet away is that fetcher eyes fixated on my amulet, mouth open with hand outstretched, using telekenisis

Yell at him and start chasing

he screeches that he is invisible and we cant see him, then runs away

Daggerfall>Oblivion=Skyirm>Morrowind>Arena
Any other order is trolling, contrarian, or a Zoomer larping

I don't care about your filename inside jokes faggot

Heckin true and, I dare say, based.

Congrats on coming out as trans, annonette! ;*

Bro you used Tele scroll after invis so you weren't invisible
Tele > invisible > take

Trannywind fan is a redditor secondary

No surprises there

Sorry i have a soul and prefer hand placed over procedural slop.

Samefag tranny obsessed has been spamming these threads for weeks. Safe to ignore, they just want to discord alog all day.

there's not a lot of reason games with realtime 3D combat need a hit table but at least its better than 2000 hp toddrim draugr

That he's a normalfag because he thinks popular = good

the combat is fine. it's the exact same spam M1 shit that every other TES game is.

Dscord alog

Seething ESL can't stand being rightfully called out, you hate to see it

He doesn't know how Daggerfall was made and fell for the randomized meme

Embarrassing

so true bestie, here's hoping tes vi is more like daggerfall and starfield!

Reminder that the Nevereverareveravine is canonically a dunmer.

Nords will seriously look at this and think "wife"

wrong, he's canonically an orc

Reminder that the Nevereverareveravine is canonically a magical negro.

directional combat

but its fucking diceroll

Why couldn't they just make it like mount and blade?

Starfield is nothing like Daggerfall. We're already getting a sequel to Daggerfall though so there's no reason to care about whatever shit modern Bethesda slops out

muh missing

just level up your skill retard

that's not even what I meant dumbass. We could've had physics jank kino for the whole series, but instead something visually very boring

Absolute retard, or more likely just baiting with a fake opinion.

We're already getting a sequel to Daggerfall

You're getting a sequel in the same way Star Citizenfags are getting their Wing Commander sequel.

Going through Karthwasten and Dragonstar again makes me appreciate Cyrodil a lot more. I constantly stutter when wondering through Karthwasten when I could walk around Anvil completely smooth. There's far less interseting rewards like in ruins and quests and the dungeons also have a lot less variety. Hopefully the Markarth update whenever it drops elevates Skyrim more.

Is it the grass?

They should just have an RPG with no levels, just RNG and maintenance.

Best Elder Scrolls by far.

That's what I suspect. There's a lot less foliage in general in the Strident Coast compared to the different regions of the Reach. Does make me worry about how performance will be once they start getting into the jungle areas of Cyrodil.

physics based melee combat in and open world game in 2002

yeah right, lol

I look like this and I say this

Orcs aren't even people.

Yes, starfield is exactly like daggerfall.
nothing outside of the MSQ and a few quests are handmade in daggerfall.
No, it's not a sequel even if it has (some) of the original developers behind it.

No mer are people.

As a Morrowind enjoyer, you are full of shit.
Morrowind is plenty clunky, and I despise Bethesda for constantly amputating clunk instead of smoothing it properly.

you've clearly never actually played Daggerfall. the vast size of the world is actually important to the mechanics of the game because it forces you to actually think about how long travel takes. quests are timed so you have to take that into account, for example you might have 6 days to complete a quest but it takes you 4 days to get there so you have to factor that in. do you set out immediately, or spend 2 days preparing?
Starfield doesn't have any depth to it like that, the world is just massive for the sake of it. and you have to spend a bunch of time just walking through empty space, where Daggerfall expects you to make use of fast travel mechanics.

Oblivion>morrowind

lol. not even close.

I learned today the Orcs are such subhumans that they can understand kobold grunts.

I don't get why you cant have modern skyrim combat with stat based dice roll damage. I also wish they'd slap perk trees on top of the attribute system. I have to wait for skyblivion to see how that would go.

Cause it's no fun to miss.

you've clearly never actually played Daggerfall.

Wrong, I've got a good 80~ hours into it this year alone.

the vast size of the world is actually important to the mechanics of the game because it forces you to actually think about how long travel takes.

Grug open map click travel to, load in 2 seconds clock say 3 weeks have passed.

quests are timed so you have to take that into account,

For the randomly generated quests to the randomly chosen pool of locations in the randomly generated dungeon. and shit MSQ no one does

Starfield doesn't have any depth to it like that

The best you can come up with is saying traveling takes time? That's your depth? Gonna cite the language skills that have a minute chance of doing nothing useful next? Starfield is largely randomly generated slop with next to no thought put into it like the vast majority of daggerfall.

I like daggerfall, fun game with cool ideas despite its limitations but it's not this 3000IQ product you're selling it as, it's insanely limited to what they originally wanted to do and previous developers in old ass blogs went into detail over it.

I like Morrowind a lot but the combat is pretty meh compared to Skyrim. It has cooler situations to get into or scenarios to deal with but as a whole general game play can be vexing. Axes can be obnoxious if you're used to swords and prone to doing stabbing maneuvers and I remember spears in particular feeling pretty awkward to attack with. Marksman has a lot of tools but crossbow or bow are the only ones that typically matter since the damage of throwing stars and darts are pretty pathetic unless you get really lucky with some enchanted ones. Magic is fun until you hit the unlucky russian roulette on a daedra and their innate 20% reflect or late game wizards who do much the same and blows you up unless you are running a spell absorb build/resist magicka build (which to be fair, you almost certainly will be in the late game regardless). I don't think Skyrim has particularly marvelous combat either, with it's magic gameplay being incredibly subpar and it's melee gameplay doesn't have any real depth but I still manage to put more hours into it despite being an inferior game in terms of story and general setting. That's just my opinion though.

"Daggerfallfans"

How many have actually played the original non unity version?

put on "use best attack" if you find using spears awkward. directional attacks are pretty much just an optional difficulty, they dont add much more.

As much as I'd love to play a game at 15fps 480p on a 1440p monitor with only my keyboard.
Hard pass.

t. daggerfall(unity) fan

I did. There's no reason to try to gatekeep an objectively worse experience of the same game. Might as well pretend the xbox version is the only correct way to play morrowind.

Not the best analogy since Morrowind first came on PC

The analogy has nothing to do with time and everything to do with user experience being hampered for no gain. So no, that's wrong.

Causalcore

The unity version has an option to simplify Daggerfall's notoriously labyrinthine dungeons, meaning that this is one situation where there's a actually good argument for "you didn't beat the game."

whos gonna win this slugfest?

Untitled.jpg - 2559x1439, 661.01K

Scamps are pretty dogshit so I'm putting my bets on the guards.

the scamps are slowly winning because the guards hits dont do damage. at least i think.

Was expecting more from the house telvanni quests, its like 2 dungeons and then just more in town fetch quests. My favorite characters so far though. I really enjoyed the few TR quests I tried but I feel like once im done with the main quest i will be too OP to have any fun.

You are supposed to go to tr lands immediately, on level 1

But I want to be the nerevarine and have azura call me a good boy :(
does anything in the mainland rival the actual main quest in length?

Unironically the best and least clunky combat in the series

That's actually Daggerfall, although MW combat is fine

These are decent depending on what you're looking for, since they're like the only tutorials that actually go through some of the more complex features of OpenMW in detail. I was banging my head against a wall trying to figure out how to do a custom race before stumbling onto one of these.
youtube.com/playlist?list=PLanyU1ZqxRMeUriJlgopeEctsSElmgZil

Scamps are immune to "normal" damage so yeah.

The click and drag melee combat of the classic release? Gets old fast.
Daggerfall Unity's click or hold options? Yeah it beats Morrowind because it's the diceroll combat but with better feedback and looks less awkward.

There's a recommended mod that slows down levelling a fair bit for people worried about getting too juiced while playing TR.
Might want to look into it.

Also you need to completely deplete stamina in order for hand to hand to deal actual damage
Hand to hand is a meme in morrowind

No, it is because... because I just know it is, okay?

I accept your concession

Cute youtuber opinion. Thanks for outing yourself as a liar and a secondary, we can all ignore you now!

Unity is the same game, just not buggy and runs on modern hardware effectively. This is a fake distinction to try and undermine the last truly great TES game before they all became chosen one prophecy slop (Which started with Morrowind, by the way)

Citing game critics

Citing metacritic

trying to paint morrowind as a flop when it literally saved bethesda from bankruptcy because it was so well received and was the second most sold xbox game of all time behind halo

Put hand-to-hand in your major skills, actually take fights that way from the start instead of relying on weapon and see how quickly it actually becomes way powerful. It's useless if you don't major in it, but absolutely can carry you through the game because you start slapping the stamina out of everyone so fast, leaving them helpless to continue fighting.

expecting numberfag shitposter to understand history or nuance

You are so mentally inept that you cannot fathom anything except bigger number gooder. There is zero chance that you aren't on disability as are all metacritictards.

I agree and its not a joke. Combat in Oblivion is miserable and youre constantly bouncing around getting your screen shaken.

That's the genius of Morrowind, you're not the chosen one because you were chosen, but because you worked hard to fulfill the role you were chosen for. It has been thousands of years since Nerevar died and countless others have arguably been chosen, yet failed to live up to the role. Additionally, you can quite easily fail, and undo the prophecy, and yet still succeed and complete the main quest. This is not possible in Skyrim nor Oblivion. You cannot fail, it is impossible. You cannot succeed in any way besides that pre-ordained.

I am not Nerevar. I am not immortal, I am not immune to disease, no tribe calls me Nerevarine, no house calls me Hortator. I am a Nord that got fed up with the shithole I got shipped off to and took matters into my own hands. Turns out you don't have to be a magical elf reincarnated to fix things. Azura showed up after I killed Dagoth just to save face and try to get some Nord dick.

pairs very well with conjuration right away

Lumping together Morrowind's writing on the same tier as Oblivion and Skyrim is extremely disingenuous and you know it.

5 years between 4 and 5

15 years since Skyrim

We should've had 6 and 7 by now, and no ESO doesn't county

Sorry Todd was too busy making awful fallout games and slopfield to actually work on the franchise that puts most of the food on the table

its been like 4 years since the last release of skyrim and oblivion just re-dropped. clearly they are finished with new things.

It's wild that compared to games made 20 years ago, games now have ballooned to 50x the budget, 5x the production time, and can make use of hardware that's infinitely more powerful, and yet they all are miserably inadequate.

probably less % of total budget spent on game production but possibly more spent on non-game programming work too? like they didn't own gamebryo and now they do and its still awful and its basically locked in buggy state forever because it's unfixable code-wise.

Inflated budget and production time along with better hardware have created a lot of complacency with developers of today compared to back then where people operated with much stricter budget, time and hardware limitations

Nah, there's no way. For starters the same pattern exists in studios that don't use an in house engine. Oblivion had a budget of $10 million. It's nuts.

No, it's the same shit. A little bit of fluff where you can say "nuh-uh, I don't think I'm the chosen one" doesn't matter when you literally do what the chosen one is supposed to do. In fact Oblivion is the only of the later games to subvert this since Martin is the actual chosen one and you're his right-hand man. The amount of mental gymnastics you fags go to to justify the same tired plot of "evil cult wants to destroy the world, a god's favorite hero stops them" because you like dust and bugs so much is just embarrassing

here is the prophecy

nah I don't fulfil any of it, I'm going to kill Vivec for being a fag and then go kill Dagoth for fucking up the place too

Cry about it bitchboy.

Daggerfall was shit then and it's still shit now
Pretty fun though

Holy mother of bait.

No I don't fulfill the prophecy, except I go and do the exact thing it says

Azura literally shows up and calls you a good little story cuck for doing it. Killing important NPCs gives you the message that this whole thing is part of the eave of fate. You are the bitch of prophecy even if you try and pretend otherwise.

Meanwhile Daggerfall actually lets you make a choice, and has a story with actual narrative beats and proper intrigue that isn't about saving the world at all.

Congratulations on your transition though. Maybe you can tell us about your New Vegas playthrough next

Cope morrotranny, if a game is good it will sell more and review better.

Very early in the game I acquired a Devil Spear, which I either bought from Ra'Virr or looted from some low level tomb. It casts Bound Spear and places a devastating conjured weapon in your hands, and the only limitation is that it will run out of charge eventually, a limitation that makes no meaningful difference to anything because in Morrowind you can recharge such items merely by resting. With this spear and some cheap medium armour, I became unstoppable at the very beginning of my adventuring career. Kite backwards and thrust, thrust, thrust: no bandit king and no daedric monster could overcome my recondite master strategy.

So it's too easy, is what I'm saying. I love to explore the land and soak in the ambience, but not even M'aiq the Liar would say that there's good combat here.

outfishing.jpg - 3840x2160, 1.98M

Azura literally shows up and calls you a good little story cuck for doing it.

Of course she did, she wants Nord dick to split her in half.

Killing important NPCs gives you the message that this whole thing is part of the eave of fate.

No shit nigger, and what does it say about that? That I severed it. The prophecy is over. The world is doomed. I am not Nerevar and never can be. I'm not a surprised a Daggerfall glazer is stuck on this point, proving it for me but trying to use it as a gotcha-you've never played Daggerfall or Morrowind and are a faggot bitch who can't read.

SPBP

Any recommended TR questlines? I've got

Almas Thirr Temple

Old Ebonheart Thieves Guild

Bal Foyen Fighters Guild, Thieves Guild, Temple

Narsis Mages Guild

Aimrah

Been doing a bunch of random quests in the new expansion and most of them are just ok but I'm getting bored. Ja-Natta syndicate and legion was ok but east empire quests and hlaalu quests have been putting me to sleep. Oh and Akamora quests were shit I dunno why people recommended it besides the daedric involvement in the fighter's guild.

why do trannies love morrowind so much Anon Babble?

yeah that is adequate, theres a lot of factors to base combat like stagger and block and shit too but devil spears are good shit.

the combat do be fire tho (fr fr)

dunno, theyre better at games than normies and have a narcissistic autism so i'd guess its an antisocial elitist self-aggrandizement.

Is there an OpenMW command to force an NPC to talk to you? ForceGreeting doesn't work. I'm trying to get Tholer Andas to talk to me and he's just bricked. And yes I got an appointment with him and I'm involved with an important Hlaalu quest with him. Still wont talk to me.

Filter this filename? 674 results of the same filename being used with varying OP narratives. Unless they're saving it from somewhere specific?
arch.b4k.dev/v/search/filename/MorrowindCOVER.jpg/
Every SINGLE one of these results are instantly followed up with the same obvious schizophrenic bait.

Morrowind is one of my favorite games ever made and I love everything about it including the combat, but I wouldn't say that it's not clunky. I'd just say it's clunky and I love it anyway.

Yeah he makes the thread then samefags a bunch of shit seething about Morrowind.

Yeah, okay. Honestly tempted not to, because it more often than not ends up generating quality discussion anyways. Much to his schizophrenic disdain. Is he aware that he's promoting more positive discussion about Morrowind than negative?

No I don't think any of the schizos on Anon Babble know that nobody gives a flying fuck about their autistic non-argument ramblings. Literally yelling at clouds.

i havent read an OP in 20 years

It's just so snappy and straight forward. I can't believe how annoying the staggering mechanics are in Oblivion.

Morrowind>Skyirm>Daggerfall>Oblivion

skyrim is and has always been gay trash for zoomers and normies

Favorite part about a high hand-to-hand is that you can somewhat reliably crowd control with the stamina drain and fast attack speed. Though that might just be because I'm using a mod that makes your fists faster with your hand-to-hand skill.

No one's saying it's not an absolute step down from better WRPGs, but it is absolutely still a great gateway drug. I wouldn't have discovered Morrowind a few years back were it not for having played Skyrim longer ago.

Dagoth Ur only has long hair in his concept art

no long hair in game or in the card game art

Huh

I had forgotten Mannimarco had this red cape in Daggerfall, I kept wondering where AllinAll got his design from.

Lots of people are saying that it is. Mostly zoomies.

BASED

Combat in Morrowind sucks

Mindlessly slapping enemies with a wet noodle hundreds of times is much better combat

Explain yourself faggots.

You should have someone explain the game mechanics to you first.

every entry in the franchise is wildly different in scope and aim and it's extremely pointless to discuss them together. unironically just have fun.

It's in the manual.

It doesn't ever state what the numbers really mean.
Just "more charge is more damage".

It's not like Always Use Best Attack is enabled by default or something. I'm sure you've walked in different directions while attacking before.

They wanted to implement even more stealth shit for the rescue bit too but they cut it cos was too buggy so instead you can just openly stroll past the guards.
Hopefully they'll go back and add alternate ways to complete it via speechcraft or something.

more charge is more damage

Yes that's exactly what it means. What's your misunderstanding? If you spam click you get the lowest damage, if you hold and then release you get the max damage.

Right, but you also just failed to explain how it works.

Are you illiterate?

Not really. A few seconds of 100% Chameleon can be done with a halfway-decent Illusion level.

You made no mention of how the swing recovery time relates to the damage range of the duration the attack is charged.
To achieve the maximum damage you need to conform to a rhythm where your charge time and recovery time equalize.

It's never mentioned anywhere, and you also neglected to mention it. You simply parroted "more charge is more damage" which is only partly correct.

Morrowind is the only good TES game
Everything else has been dragged down by absolutely delusional Bethesda ideas
Morrowind was saved from having radiant quests, radiant ai or some other shit because 3d technologies were quite limited at that time and Bethesda was forced to make a proper game and not some procedurally generated rubbish

reminder if you use OpenMW you are a clown

Okay lol

Explain why without sounding like a faggot.

It's not widely known because npcs work in the complete opposite way; they spam the shortest animation and have random damage ranges.
The assumption most people make with morrowind is that pc weapons behave exactly like npc weapons and that the damage ranges presented on an item correspond to a random value per swing.
So the information that holding the button increases damage is usually interpreted as meaning its an arbitrary multiplier.

How combat in morrowind actually works is unintuitive and mostly a secret.
