How come so many games exclude important societal functions like tax collection when they present their worlds...

How come so many games exclude important societal functions like tax collection when they present their worlds? As far as I know, only Morrowind gets this aspect of life right

taxes are boring and this perfectly sets the stage for a game as dull as morrowind

wait i can tax evade in morrowind? i didn't know it was that based

Foryn Gilnith did nothing wrong

find dead tax goy

sweet 200 gold

mention it in town

"figures, real asshole, you should tell the Excise office though"

eh fuck it

"huh, he have any gold?"

mfw

You can get 300 extra if you simp for the state but jumping off the boat and killing a local in the name of a leech doesnt exactly scream

I AM TRYING TO DO SPY SHIT

To me. Also

simp for the state

doing their spy shit

for free

I kill the murderer because I want his shitty little shack for my own.

He wants to give the imperial fucker her ring back. She should be flayed for her crimes against dunmer men.

I unironically used to kill her for this crime as a kid.

Would you guys recommend the 4x slower leveling mod for doing the TR stuff if I'm already planning on using the Harder, Better, Faster Stronger mod? I enjoy the "struggle" part of Morrowind tue most, but I guess this could be a bot overkill

Witcher did it

NCGDMW lets you adjust how fast skills level and has an option for them to decay over time

Go play ck2 if that’s such a big concern for you

What is Valenwood's tax policy?

Did his lighthouse-keeper girlfriend really love him or was she a gold digger who only wanted gifted rings and shit? I could never decide

It's too radical for me, I'm afraid. I think I will simply set all of my attributes to 20 with console commands and go with the 4x slower leveling

Foryn didn't have a problem with the Processus outside of him skimming off the top from the taxes and being a nigger about it showing off it publicly. Nothing says he hated the empire or imperials per se.

glad I'm not the only one going around killing all mixed race couples

Not only is she fucking the imperial, she is being advantaged to the detriment of her kin through the tax collectors actions. She deserves to die on a few different levels.

He calls you "one of the emperor's dogs" or something along those lines when you tell him you'll kill him, he's at least anti-government

I liked Elona tax policy, where it was property+wealth tax except you could evade the wealth tax by hiding the cash.
For some reason, the kingdom also paid more welfare if you lived in a nice house.

oh yeah, forgot that. You're right.

So, is this the Morrowind general?

generals are terrible and you are terrible

No. That is the Morrowind tax collector.
This is the Morrowind general.

I like the moth imagery on their armor, i wish the the latter games recognized that they're supposed to be a very big part of imperial culture more often

Shhhh you’ll get us tossed to the Anon Babble ghetto. This is a perfectly organic thread with nothing to hide

yoooooo this nigga wants to live in seyda neen

outside of him skimming off the top from the taxes and being a nigger about it showing off it publicly

He's wearing plain clothes and has exactly enough on him to match one of the entries on the tax record.

So would it be correct to assume that Foryn was jealous of the taxman pounding that lighthouse keeper?

I always just pocket the money. Never knew there was a quest after that

Erm actually there's the ancestral moths in Oblivion

imagery on their armor

the only thing you can make out on that armor is the imperial dragon and the moths
Morrowind armor and clothing textures are so fucking ass

mentor's ring is just around the corner of Seyda Neen

Huh? If you compare it to Fargoth's ring or the Theif ring found in the local gooncave it's absolutely insane how powerful it is. Was this a miscalculation from Bethesda? Or did they figure people wouldn't take the magical sword from Theriel so that they could beat undeads?

Yeah it's strange how all of their forts (and legions) are named after different moths and then this is never seen again in Oblivion and Skyrim

well we get into moth priests really heavily later on so the motifs are there

Wow it’s almost like Morrowind had better world building than the other games or something

It's just a bunch of guys hiding in a gooncave that you encounter in the TG. Skyrim's got a cool moth animation when you find that tree I remember, but I wouldn't really say that it paying homage to Morrowind's moth legions

tropical climate

mediterranean architecture

So Cyrodiil is just fantasy Brazil?

anvil.png - 1366x768, 1.75M

the legions are moths because moths are a symbol of elder scrolls and the tower. as the empire is falling apart by skyrim and they lost the tower those moth motif'd legions are not meaningful and theyve just got the dragon really?

So I'm exploring Narsis.
Just how big is this city?

You people say the most retarded shit I swear to god

No, that would be High Rock as it's the designated interracial breeding grounds of Tamriel

so that they could beat undeads?

What are you talking about?
You can easily stroll in and just grab the ring while ignoring all the enemies inside. In fact it's easier at low level when the ancestral tombs have shitty enemies.

you have to be a registered citizen for taxes to apply and in
morrowind/oblivion/skyrim you're a random prisoner given freedom but
with no actual citizenship.

the closest to taxes is something like mmo repair fees. every tank
needs to pay the tax to tank.

npc-argonian.jpg - 720x720, 73.09K

The entire bitter coast is full of hidden treasures like that. My favorite is snatching fists of ragawhatever and shit from ilnubbi before the cultists ever spawn.

You're referred to as "citizen" by Ordinators, though

im pretty sure registering for the character creation IS citizenship application

Yeah, but that requires some meta knowledge. It's completely natural to just find the tomb while exploring.

Because with taxes you also have to implement a functioning and detailed economy by extension.

morrowind

You're pardoned by Imperial decree and registered in the Census Office.

oblivion

The Emperor Himself pardons you, the Blades witness this and presumably report this information.

skyrim

A prisoner is on the loose and not a single Jarl cares.

Nigga u stsrt the game in the CENSUS and EXCISE office

I’m suprised no one bothered to make a tax mod for Daggerfall unity. Even simple staff like paying your guild dues and property taxes

You can get 300 extra if you simp for the state

500 actually. If you ask around and find out who killed the taxman and kill him before talking to the Excise office they will give you 500 without taking the original 200.

One does not simply
Tax the Nerevarine

mordor .jpg - 568x335, 31.62K

They (jarls) will tax your inheritance in Skyrim THOUGEVER

I didn't find it at all the first two times I played. It took online discussion to make me wonder where was this infamous ring that a lot of people spoke about.
It could happen that you just stumble upon it early, but 90% of ancestral tombs have nothing but trash inside.

In majesty it's literally a game mechanic. Your tax collectors are vulnerable to being attacked and if they do you lose everything they collected

youre all retarded. YOu dont own a home in morrowind. Even in modern society, the most taxed society to have ever existed, our government does not chase down homeless people to pay taxes.

YOu dont own a home in morrowind.

You didn't play the game.

A prisoner is on the loose and not a single Jarl cares

The Imperials didn’t even have you on the prisoners list, you’re not a real prisoner

Nigga I had to ask the fucking duke to sign my construction papers

hardcore ancap telvani doesnt pay taxes, you cant explain that!

retards either way you look at it.

By the Grace of ALMSIVI, Lords and Rulers of All

His Grace, the Duke of Vvardenfell, hereby grants%PCName the right to build a stronghold and village of no more than fifty persons and of no more than 400 feet in any direction.%PCName may hire no more than 10 Men-At-Arms and retainers to defend the stronghold.

%PCName must protect the settlers who dwell within the bounds of the stronghold.%PCName must swear loyalty to the crown of His Grace, the Duke of Vvardenfell, and to ALMSIVI.

If%PCName does not abide by these terms, this contract is null and void and the rights to the stronghold reverts to His Grace, the Duke of Vvardenfell.

Seal of His Grace, Duke of Vvardenfell
Duke Vedam Dren

Seal of the Vassal
%PCName

The Jarl of Windhelm saw (You) in the wagon alongside an horse thief, even if you're not signed as a prisoner on the Imperial list you're still clearly a criminal.
Why wouldn't the Jarl of Windhelm be concerned by a criminal foreigner strolling around while a murderer is on the loose inside his city?

You are now aware that property taxes is a rare thing in history and that even lords of strongholds were not taxed just for having property, taxes were more often applied to actual workers/peasantry and traders who had consistent revenue.

Nigga the Jarl of Windhelm permits the Emperors secret service to inspect his city for a visit openly and officially while in the midst of a civil war against said emperor. He on that crackrock

The really retarded part about the Telvanni is the existence of "rogue" Telvanni.
What's that even supposed to mean?

lots of times nobility got a stipend from the king

Yeah, it seems like our taxes is simply to protect the duke's land, which seems reasonable. I'm judt saying that the player os obviously a citizen as he's seen as a vassal of Dren

"Plausible deniability" mostly. "Rogue" my ass, that's literally what Telvanni is all about but if you get caught doing it, it's your funeral. The House won't protect you.

They're a loophole, really. They colonize areas without any official claim to it. There's one example where they dress up as "pilgrims" and ask to be taken to the vicinity of a tower. Not suspicious at all

He flat out tell you he doesn’t care about your criminal past because escaping Helgen must mean you are competent

We tested the resolve of the Duke and the other Houses when we grabbed Tel Vos. And we found out they weren't going to fight to protect the settlement charters, we sent out our deviants and malcontents to stake new claims. Some will survive, some won't. Hlaalu and Redoran have to respond. But in the end, the ones that survive will extend our power and influence here on Vvardenfell.

That's how Tel Vos happened and they said they'll be doing more of that with their disposable members.

finally a competent altmer criminal! so, about that "skyrim for the nords, fuck off elf poofters" thing, you in?

jej

Telvanni are Israeli settlers

I see.

What are some of the best dungeons in TR? I'm doing questlines, but none have really sent me to any big dungeons.
Some of my favorite moments in vanilla are from delving into a dungeon, only to realize that it's way bigger and more in-depth than I first realized.

Khalaan
Any of the dreugh dungeons
The dwemer ruins near Firemoth
I forget the name but there's like an underground daedric pyramid near Akamora

Did you know? All those enormous quantities of booze you find in caves are smuggled to avoid the imperial tax on alcohol. Amazing world building

smuggled or just locally brewed and stashed to avoid taxes.

I kill the drunk guy in Caldera who lives next to the Mage's guild for his house, he was in huge debt from all the alcohol so he was most likely going to get killed off by some loan shark hit man or get evicted anyway.

Smuggling is big business. The Empire says we can't trade skooma, moon sugar, ebony, Dwemer artifacts, exotic Dunmer weapons and armor, and slaves. So smugglers trade these things. Smugglers also smuggle greef, shein, and sujamma to avoid Imperial tax. And now the Sixth House hires smugglers, though what they smuggle, Addhiranirr cannot say.

I get the haunted house in Caldera after killing the skeleton.

for me it's the orcish boots and queerass

For me, it's the Arvel Plantation

just hit up caldera for the full set

Ordinators still kill you for wearing Indoril armor, even after being proclaimed to be Nerevar

So would it be correct to assume that Foryn was jealous of the taxman pounding that lighthouse keeper?

No because he wants you to give her the ring back, meaning he didn't mind the romance.
He's literally just a fucking retard who murdered a man because he baselessly believed the ring to have been bought with his tax money.

t. imperial dog

Is there a mod that adds the progress bar to the normal stats screen instead of needing to hover over it?

bar.png - 1028x499, 437.88K

dai-katana

Whatever happened to this word? It was everywhere for a while. Now they just call it a Nodachi baka desu senpai

taking the side of mer against men

cuck

blame that douche john romero or maybe the fact that it just means big-katana and thats pretty lame.

it's also a DnDism like how their bastard swords are just long swords

John Romero made me his bitch and raped me straight in the asswhole

kwajrb

How come Morrowind didn't use this kind if advertisement? "Todd Howard will make yiu his bitch" has got a nice ring to it

5M3XOiT.png - 485x664, 440.02K

thats reserved for catgirls

A fantasy world wouldn't be much of an escape if you're enslaved there too.

baka desu sempai

Wait, I didn't write that

In Gothic 2 the farmers have hired mercenaries to prevent the city guard from collecting taxes from them.

Todd Howard only had the flop Redguard under his belt at that time. He didn't become a rockstar dev like Romero until much later.

Weird, I remember Daggerfall and Battlespire ads but not Morrowind

Guards literally call you a citizen in Oblivion

Why do we have multiple threads about taxes on Anon Babble today?

The legions are moths because moths are an important symbol in Nibenese culture and later imperial culture in virtue of the fact that they're holy animals and seen as reincarnations of their ancestors. The reducing of the Moth Priests to just "the guys who read the Elder Scrolls" and the moths to just their tools is precisely what i was talking about in that post.

I mean tangentially I can see it.

bracyrodill.jpg - 2056x1024, 437.12K

Yeah, all that is being lost over the course of the series. The empire subsumes the nibenese shit and then obsoletes itself.

they dont know you. they just assume you are a citizen.

It's a GoT joke. It just so happens that Morrowind passes the GRRM-test (which Tolkien failed according to the lardass). This thread is admittedly a Morrowind stealth general

Tax lore is gay
Food lore is not

if kirkbride had a say in morrowinds advertising, then it probably woulve been something like this text on vivecs ass as a tramp stamp.

which Tolkien failed according to the lardass

grrm have a comically huge hate boner for tolkien if you watch some of his interviews
he's most likely seething from not being on his level

fuck I regret going alchemy. too much inventory management

then just eat all your ingredients and sell your tools lol

You will get crazy when you learn that the north of Africa used to be like that before Islam

Collect taxes for a lord

collect taxes

buy cattle

sell fresh beef

return taxes

10,000 hours in MS paint

Just plain bad research, you would see that every once in a while when devs tried to do something japanese.
You don't hear dai-katana in anime or manga, ever. Swords have different names for their sizes and purposes.
Also, Baldur's Gate had a class called Kensai, but that was also a dumb mistake, the correct title is Kensei (Sword Saint). You hear it a lot in anime.

Because taxes shouldn't exist.

Speaking of, they should make an open world game where you can kill tax collectors and everyone in the power structure and crash the whole economy. That would be the greatest thing ever. Most of the time w kill bad guys who want to rule over the world, but we forget that the world already has evil rulers who collect taxes from people and they need to be unalived too for all evil to stop existing.

N'wahs go home

Should I take Spear or Long Blade or both?

It's nice to have options at the start imo, I usually take at least 2 weapon skills.

spear with directional attacks on so you gotta keep backing that ass up to stab people

Sandy Peterson makes a tweet

I also live in that house until higher levels, then I move to the tower in Dagon Fel

spear is really ridiculously strong... at rushing endurance levels. many people rush END/INT to get better hp/int on levelup. the other alternative to spears is wearing the heavier armors that slow you down a ton til you've also got STR.

Axes' charged attack does a ton of damage early on

Why was the Sword of White Woe just sitting in a random guard tower anyways

because the devs said so

They don't need taxes they make all the money entirely from fining the player character for their various crimes.

two separate towers even

Is this what my map is supposed to look like in TR?

mata nui.jpg - 1708x1898, 685.71K

That would be cool but the only ones who'd make a game like that are cringe commies who are just mad because they want to be the ones confiscating and redistributing peoples wealth

Yes.
They only include the areas with content in them unless you download the preview modules

Why wouldn't it be, it's a generic magic item

but why is it in the guard tower of all places

guard finds ebony contraband in raid

stashes it until his next visit to Caldera

didn't do a very good job of stashing it if it's just on top of the dresser of a communal room

idk property of some guard captain?
or this

your inner weeb is taking control

that's like being confused by finding a gun in a police department

You don't find a custom engraved ivory handled revolver in a police station

Yes you do, in the evidence locker.

Maybe YOU don't.

I think you do this in Resident Evil 2

You should check out police auctions, you absolutely would.

heh maybe where you come from
we do things a little different here in Raccoon City

the sword of white woe isn't in the evidence locker though
checkmate, imperial cultist

Was this a miscalculation from Bethesda

Given that there's a guy upstairs in arille's tradehouse that tells you about it in guessing not. The whole game is full of treasure you just have to go and get it.

You have to pay taxes in Elin

Of course it isn't an evidence locker, is a guardtower of a Hlaalu town. It's probably a bribe.

You don't have to.

Rogue tevlanni is like radical islam.

If you're strong enough, you can neglect to pay taxes and just kill guards that try to fuck with you when you're labeled a criminal. However, paying an extra 20,000 taxes per month gives you 20 gold bars, which you can use to bolster your bases, and in turn make more money.

how did he move the body of the tax collector without anyone noticing for days
why are morrowind's quests so poorly made?

I always assumed he killed him while he was peeing

move the body of the tax collector without anyone noticing

more like nobody cares because nobody likes tax collectors

tfw just realized that the Sea Snake Navy's logo is stylized Thirr river.

unless you download the preview modules

I thought they removed them

to be fair, with a civil war looming over the horizon some rando thief is the least of your problems

There are still ways to get them, it's just not easily accessible

Did anyone find out more about the Andothren situation? How did the name even come to be?

Andorthren as a name had no basis in accepted canon

It was such a beautiful toponym to pronounce... An-zo-sren.

Yes. This is obvious. It's completely different form any of the established naming conventions. What's interesting is HOW it snuck into the development (reportedly at around 08)

iirc it was because someone thought there were too many settlements with similar names so they gave it the name andorthren to make it stand out more

And now part of the reason for the change is being too similar sounding to already existing towns.
Pottery.

True, you had to pay them in Elona as well.

paying my taxes with money made from selling Dark Brotherhood gear from assassins the king sent to kill me

delightfully devilish

where? do they conflict with any currently released content?

Does anyone know how to fix this glitch? I used OpenMW before and I never encountered this bug until the most recent build of OpenMW? For some unknown reason every ebony chest piece has this glowing effect even though it has no enchantment. Has any other anon encountered this issue before?

glowingebony.png - 610x839, 773.18K

Yeah, I take it you downloaded the "non glowy magic items" mod or whatever it's called. Don't know hoe to solve it.

I never installed any mod. I always played vanilla. I never seen Ebony armor glow like this. Could it be the new lighting or something? It seems to only effect the Ebony chest piece and no other armor.

Ok. Where do I find those pretty swords? The ones beside the shield?

That seashell also looks interesting.

I'm just saying it happened to me after I installed the no-glow mod. But it could be something completely different, I guess. Only the ebony curryass

god damn I will never get over how good a job they did on that shit, runs well on my machine too
I assume IC is gonna have to be faked a little though because that shit is far too large to realistically be all exterior.

I wouldn't mind if the IC got the Mournhold treatment. I'd prefer it over OE every time. I know some people shit on Oblivion for this, but it's the only logical way to handle it

nah that's awful
also what's the issue with OE? it runs even better than anvil for me

it's okay I won't get political

me, 149 sujammas in:

He did. He though the tax collector was keeping money from the taxes and buying jewelry when in fact they were a gift from his gf. Foryn, the idiot, sealed his destiny over a misunderstanding.

Why does MGEXE randomly switch from Borderless to Fullscreen

The Imperial City is supposed to be the biggest of all Tamriel, according to older lore. It's also definitely built above the ruins of some of the strongest Ayleid city states.

Yes, you used to be able to access everything with TR_preview but they stopped making that publically available due to smoothbrains complaining about the lack of quests.

There's just something about Caldera. I can't explain it but I feel like I'm wrapped in a warm blanket when I'm there, Suran too for that matter.

Realism can help make a game feel more immersive or subvert expectations for a laugh or social commentary, but is it fun? It can be. It can also not. Taxes sound like it would not be fun. You lose money, and in return, you get...nothing. So yeah that sounds gay.

FFXI does have a sales tax in some places. You used to see people bazaaring goods in Rolanberry outside the gates to Jeuno for this reason.

So how do i get it

me too, i think because caldera is just the right size and its imperial design feels like respite in the wild landscape outside it. the inn is my personal favorite in the whole game.

Yes, TR/PT only add the areas with content to their main mods.

They're currently busy reworking the areas of the Sundered Scar (central Morrowind and the areas west of Mournhold/Almalexia) and that'll be added in the next update, "Poison Song", coming somewhere later this year or the next.

They'll add the rest of Shipal-Shin and the Valus Mountains in "Wealth Beyond Measure", so that hole will be plugged soon-ish.

Next come the Redoran regions (the ones that comprise Morrowind's northwestern areas and the Velothi Mountains that separate the region from Skyrim). The Updates have names, which are currently "True Noble's Code" and "Hope of the Redoran". Those are coming after WBM, and maybe after the Mephalan Vale rework.

After that, they'll probably focus on adding stuff from House Dres.

Can someone tell me what the hell happened to Stirk? I can't coc there in the new PC release. And why the FUCK have these FAGGOT janitors autosaged the thread?

Stirk is now "Project Cyrodiil". They've expanded to the rest of the Gold Coast (Bravil and its surroundings).

They're adding Sutch and Kvatch next.

i just remember the toonami morrowind review that aired for like a year straight

I just wanted some goddamn sleep

morrowind.png - 187x319, 66.94K

and they renamed it to Charach

Is it worth getting if I'd like to just explore there, like can I just use it with the recent releases? I don't really wanna break anything

Rhe top floor room is peak comfy and soo detailed

And why the FUCK have these FAGGOT janitors autosaged the thread?

Likely because there are two morrowind generals up right now.

What difficulty do you guys play on? Honestly there's so much OP shit you can do that I'm considering raising the difficulty to max.

its imperial design feels like respite in the wild landscape outside it

This might be it. It's the first "real" Imperial settlement you find, dependent if you consider Pelagiad a true settlement. It's a straight shot of crazy/alien from the Seyda Neen docks onwards until you end up in Caldera which then leads right to Ald'ruhn. It's like a waystation of civilization to recoup the morale.

i had a do-it-all type character for the MQ up to bloodmoon and by the start of bloodmoon i was on +50 on the slider, +100 by the end

The slider merely changes the weapon damage done and taken, so I generally keep it where it is and forget about it.

Always max.
It's annoying to get one shot so much early on, but you just hit too fucking hard otherwise.

I just adjust it when I level up and it starts to get too easy. The way I like to make the game more interesting is to make non-optimized characters and just roleplay.

I never touch it, i dont actually care about the combat. when things get too easy and I complete a factions quests i just make a new character and join a new faction.

I think Anvil is poorly designed and laid out.
Old Ebonheart also sucks.
Narsis is perfection.
I haven't played Skyrim yet

That sounds even more based though, killing glowniggers purely on principle

It was annoying in Gothic and it would be annoying everywhere else

9577930.png - 600x900, 245.12K

You will never be a real prisoner.

difficulty increased but also difficulty mods added in

sixth house difficulty

dremora/golden saints only having chance to drop weapons

harder fights scattered about, including faction leaders

not using exploits

but none of that economy/merchant nerf shit, I like difficulty but I'm not insane

Is Marksman actually viable in Morrowind?

AHHHHH OH MY SCIENCE IS THAT TWO VIDEOGAMES THREADS ON MY GENITAL MUTILATION AND CHINESE CARTOONS BOARD HELP ME NIGGERMA'AM I'M LE GOING INSANE

Yes, a bound bow will see you through any encounter if you can kite.

Yes, no mod needed. Just have good weapon skill.

wealth beyond measure, outlanders.

Yeah it actually does damage unlike Oblivion

just keep in mind that retrieving ammo is not something to rely on

i just don't use the OP shit

unironic "what's their tax policy" posting

some guy uploaded a complete, up-to-date version of the preview lands

TR devs throw a hissy fit and get nexus to remove any trace of it

now you have to cobble it together yourself and risk breaking your save

annoying

Yes, I'm doing a marksman character currently and it's a lot of fun using crossbows and throwing weapons that I've never used before. The throwing weapons especially are such a unique and forgotten weapon type in this game and that alone makes them fun, the one tip I have for them is that the dmg they do is double the said number as they act as both projectile and weapon in the dmg formula. I recommend you install the AOE effect arrows official plug-in as it adds a good merchants with a lot of projectiles to the game.

I think marksman actually counts as a stealth attack so it's easy to level stealth that way

Marksman is kinda overpowered because of how easily you can exploit the retarded AI

"Menu Error: Memory pointer corrupted" as soon as I can access the menu during the new character creation

the fuck

What's their tax policy tier writing >Tolkitroon tier writing

Look up ebony armor fix. This bug has been there since vanilla

To me, that seemed to happen whenever i created a new character while already playing as a pre-existing one. Creating one from the main menu had no issues, so try it

House Dres stuff before Almalexia

wew

It'll be a sweet finale

In oblivion you need to go to the customs office to get your housing documents stamped
.>for some reason
thats how it is in this world too

fan patches fix this

jew patches cant be trusted
skyrim had that too. I think they were in dlc.

To get the quest you have to read the tax document on his corpse.

Some retard lost the ring they inherited. They made the ring really good to drive home the fact how much of a fuckup that was.

Actually how did he lose it? Was it in the chest to begin with and he had to overcome the tomb to get it and couldnt? Did it slip of his finger when putting his mentor to rest?

i hope the redoran expansions allows us to have these little shits as pets/companions they cute

Here's mine
