Play Higurashi When They Cry

No.

Based KeiiCHAD getting the better deal.

whats the combat like? is it anything like ninja gaiden?

Ayo cuh, a mothafuckin' Umineko thread died fo' this!

Tell me when they cry, then I will play it.

Well for starters this big baby cries in the beginning

Mion > Shion

I remember watching this anime, it had a great "rural town with a dark mistery" plot, but then went really retarded and basically became DBZ

Just completed chapter 2. I'm literally so confused. Could everything really have been avoided if Kei hadn't sent Mion on a yandere bender by giving his doll to Rena?

Get out of this thread while you still can, anon.

no everyone is a schizo and has equal access to yakuza funds without even knowing it, leading to extreme power tripping like you'd see from a reddit mod except that there's actually less accountability somehow

also evacuate this thread right now

Yeah but the op is so good

I know I know I'm going. But the motivation was confusing me. Seems like a comedic overreaction. Anyway I'm loving the story so far

Nobody cries. This is a stoic visual novel. There are no sobs, tantrums, crashouts, or emotional outbursts of any kind. Truly the most Greek fiction since antiquity.

...is far superior to the trash updated sprites!

I am, this close to finishing the final episode (8). Is there anything else to check out other than the 8 episodes of the VN or that's it?

Shiki does it better if that's what you're looking for.

Art is hard.
IMO I think the Steam sprites look the worst, but they convey a lot more emotion than the Alchemist sprites

nah the original art is amazing, i dont know why people hate on it, yes its dated but it gives such a good rustic old timey charm, the newer sprites are too slick and shiny

Also one last thing. I don't trust Ooishi. I think he's in on the conspiracy and just acting like a good cop. He's a bad man. He's a bad guy for sure

The gameplay density is a bit low, I'm afraid

The answer is a fictional virus called hinamizawa syndrome and takano is the bad guy studying it. It makes people become homicidal. Rika uses time travel to win.

Why the fuck do niggers think this is better than umineko

SG is shit.

I love Shmion

I'm on it.
I got curious about Ryukishi when I saw that last Silent Hill f direct but I don't know if I'll make before the game releases. Still enjoying it though.

pass, a game is 99% gameplay.

ABOBA

play game

oh wow i cant wait to see how they tie this all up

random volcano goes off and kills everyone because the author didnt want to write a ending

cool

how does keichi survive the fall for the bridge and how is he knocked out for literally a whole day?

They(the cicadas) cry like every night or whatever. The writer uses their cries to put emphasis on the mystery and tension in the story. Similar to how Lynch would show shots of wind in trees for Twin Peaks.

how can you explain episode 1 with keichi having a schizo breakdown? did he literally have a hallucination about the needle in the rice ball? if not, then he wasn't having an episode

Hinamizawa syndrome literally made him crazy, it makes everyone crazy and hallucinate. The rice ball doesn't have a needle it has hot sauce but since the virus has progressed too far for him he hallucinates a needle.

I had similar problems with episode 1. The thing that always made me scratch my head was the scene at the school right before the day where Keichi goes full schizo. Mion and Rena are conspiring and talking evil about Keichi. Yet, Keichi is not present for this scene so there's no reason for an unreliable narrator's PoV. So were they actually evil then/ was something going on? Everyone says no and that R07 is a hack writer who was still making things up as he went along. So that scene needs to be modified to be a dream or some shit IMO.

Mion put hot sauce in one of them as a joke, that was his "homework" and why she was chuckling about it.

It's Keiichi hallucinating from hinamizawa syndrome, the whole dumbass game is this fictional virus making people crazy

game, jut like anime, have question and answers arc. First you experience shit going insane so you question what the fuck happened. Then you have answer arc explaining shit. Higurashi and especially Umineko with long waits between those arc was glorious as fuck
as explained by this anon residents of hinamizawa suffer from a virus triggered by extreme stress, leaving village for too long and other shit. it makes them schizo-paranoid, to the point of being murderous schizos and then commiting suicide by ripping you throat off. Whatever fears person has gets amplified 9999x no matter how illogical it is, since in schizo head it all makes sense
funfact, one of the main cast, despite being born and raised in hinamizava, is completly immune to l4 aka level 4, most lethal and final stage of the virus

virus isn't fictional, half of it's basis, aka queen carrier is. And main villian is following the wrong part

one of the main cast, despite being born and raised in hinamizava, is completly immune to l4 aka level 4, most lethal and final stage of the virus

none of them are immune, circumstances just don't support it happening for everyone

No I mean its a made up virus that doesn't exist in our real world

how pretentious are these games?
I don't like pretentious bullshit and 4th wall-breaking shit.

no It's impossible for Mion to get l4 or even progress the virus without using the injection
you cannot disapprove that, she never wenr crazy outside newest anime

Keiichi hallucinating

So you're saying that that scene was a complete hallucination from the head of Kei? Otherwise it doesn't make sense. Why would we see a distorted reality of a scene at the school when Kei was absent? See what I mean?

There's nothing that makes Mion immune, Rika just never saw a world where she goes schizo. Mion is a Sonozaki, and won't fall for the sonozaki boogeyman that everyone else has as a source of paranoia. Even Rika herself might've went schizo a few times according to Minagoroshi

It's a hallucination to validate his paranoia, that's what the virus does. You hallucinate things that make your paranoia seem justified, including the scene of his friends at school hes imagining this too.

Keichi deserves both, fuck that Satoshi faggot

Also this VN is too long for it's own good. I was hating it by the time I finished CH8 and there's no way I'm reading the same amount in Rei, Hou+ and the console arcs

dude, in this series you have adult guy gutting a kid alive because virus makes him so delusional that he believes he need to do it or god will spirit him away
Rika directly stated that in all kakeras she never experienced Mion progressing her virus

That doesn't make Mion immune, the virus is in her like everyone else. One of Rika's main rules of the loops is that someone goes schizo largely because of the Sonozaki boogeyman, but Mion knows they aren't behind it.

this is pretty hack writing honestly. I can follow things being distorted but just imagining things wholesale to trick the reader is like ok, the final sentence could be "hinamizawa never existed it's just the delusion of a singular schizo locked up in a mental asylum" and it would be as legitimate as everything else

He did his fucking best. Satoko would be a broken shell or dead without him. Shion should have her legs spread for him 24/7 after everything he did.

Chadtoshi.jpg - 1280x720, 101.6K

satoko knows how to cook, so really it's on her if she's letting nii-nii nearly burn the fucking place down to serve up some butterdogs

I never watched the older show, was the blonde kid the OG MC that everyone was in love with? Then K1 came along and became the new harem protag everyone loved? I always thought that was strange how everyone just moves on to K1.

Yes everyone has a virus, just according to Rika, she never encountered a world where she suffered to virus progression yet alone L5. Hypothetical worlds where she got to L5 that Rika haven't seen just doesn't exist, simply as. Unless we count Gou
Adding to that, Ryukishi also mentioned that she doesn't suffer to virus not only because of boogeyman, but also because she prefers to talk things out no matter what, so it's hard for her to go violent
We had this discussion for more than 15 years already. If Rika managed to win a game and pull a miracle world after uncounted numbers of fragments she experienced for hundred of years, then it's safe to say that outside direct L5 injection, it's impossible for Mion to escalate her virusDon't make me say it in red

ye, Satoshi was the previous K1 aka your local boy everyone likes except they didn't because he was from family supporting the dam construction
also, he was "spirited away" so everyone dealt with it to avoid angering Oyashiro-sama

fully internalize and understand the message of Higurashi: lack of communication and understanding destroys trust and friendships

my friend group still basically dissolved because of exactly that

who drew this a toddler??
xDxDxD

you should've played more tabletop games with them and forced them into embarrassing outfits

Spoilers. I think "virus" is an explanation for beginners. In fact, all the paranoid things actually happened for those who fell under syndrome. And Hanyu appeared as a deus ex machina. The syndrome is a virus and a deity and some kind of subconscious crap and anything that Takano would have fantasized in her fairy tales and that children and others under the syndrome would believe in.

Gou didn't happen
K1 banged Rika and Satoko

satoko rika.jpg - 3083x3852, 1M

mion is STACKED

I wonder if R07 could be a Kafka tier writer if he just didn't do answer arcs that completely torpedo his works. Imagine if The Metamorphosis had an "answer arc" that explained what all the symbolism meant in the story and what happened to Greg's sister. Shit would ruin everything.

I'm gonna try replaying it next month. Playing/Watching/Reading Higurashi in June is a fun experience

Sonozakis are descended from demons

I'm ok with answers, it's annoying when you never find out

I too would choose murder over having to study

He really should have banged Rika after everything she went through.

soul brother.jpg - 723x720, 113.01K

rika is the best character in the vn with ooishi close second. akawasa or whatever is cringe

bros...

mion booba.webm - 1200x1360, 326.36K

Ywn move to an idyllic village in the mountains, making new friends, having fun everyday and rediscovering the meaning of life

From Rika's perspective it was like a prison that slowly drained away her sanity and will to live, she only persevered due to her inner strength.

Asakasa or whatever is a weird self-insert or something. The whole Chapter 8 was marvel-tier trash

Also 1>3>6>2>7>4>5>8

don't worry it's not like this in real life you're a socially maladjusted autist. I did move to such a place but didn't make any bonds with the very insular people that live in small towns

i did, it was shit

I won’t stay here long to avoid spoilers. I’m near the end of episode 2 (I think) and while I am intrigued by the story, I’m seriously considering dropping it because of how retarded and obnoxious Keichi is.

-loads of fun

rena107.jpg - 569x781, 384.92K

Episodes 1,2,3,6 are the best. If you don't like it already, you might drop it yeah

I couldnt even finish the show it was so dumb.

Gousotsu is even worse so you are lucky

Hide the pain, Rika

If I only like the first episodes of this dogcrap, should I play Umineko?

You don't get to have an opinion if you were too much of an ADHD zoomer to finish the original story. It wraps everything up perfectly and makes all of the things that seemed "dumb" make sense.
As said the anime sequel is fucking awful though and shouldn't exist.

Shion kino that low

I think when I finish higurashi I'll have read all the noteworthy VNs. it's sad cause I like reading them but most are really not impressive at all
top of my head, I read:
tsukihime
higurashi
umineko
steins gate
chaos head
saya

I wish more VNs would capture the essence of tsukihime.

How would you rank them anon?

in this order:
tsuki, steins gate, umi, higu, saya, chaos head

Read Fata Morgana, especially Requiem. I don't know why it seems so unpopular on Anon Babble, Jacopo feels like a character that every anon here would love. I guess because it's the type of story that's utterly impossible to talk about without spoilers.

oh yeah that one you're right. I think I stayed away cause of some, huh, interesting translation. do you know if there's a french translation and if it's any good?

turns into le twisted psycho for no reason

hqdefault.jpg - 480x360, 16.34K

I would call FMD Muramasa a noteworthy VN too, but it definitely also suffers from "almost good" syndrome. There's enough good parts to it though that I would say it's worth reading
