Is there a chance for Marathon to turn this disaster around?
Is there a chance for Marathon to turn this disaster around?
Not really, no. Unless they entirely scrap the art and graphics and delay the game by another year or two.
No. I think Sony's going to force them to put it out so it can fail so badly Sony can fire the entire C-suite without paying out their final bonus because these fuckers had 6 years of dev time and nobody could make a fucking decision on what the game would be until like 9 months ago
There was barely any interest when the alpha release. It got stomped by Arc Raiders. This thing is literally dead on arrival. Maybe people will check it out to see how much of a disaster it is but they'll just jump off to play Arc Raiders instead if that is out by that time.
It's not free so they're only going to get content creators buying in to show off the mess to get views
The only way they can MAYBE salvage it is if they add another year of dev time, hire that artist AND launch f2p.
can someone explain this image?
No. Go back.
Go back to the Catalog? Ok...
Newfag begone.
I'm not talking about loss you retards, I'm talking about the accusation
Bungie stole original artwork from that guy's website and used it as textures for their game, it also seems that they stole the guy's entire artstyle
theres one easy way for bungie to recover from this. They can admit that they were wrong, cancel Marathon, close the studio, and sell off their IPs to the highest bidder.
Hire the artist that they plagiarized.
Take another 12 or so months and remake the trilogy (1, 2 and Infinity) with modern assets, use that as the "single player campaign" of the package
Sprinkle in some new criptic lore and stuff in the multiplayer part so that youtubers can make 12 hours videos discussing about theories.
There, that should do it. Will they do it though? Probably not.
and remake the trilogy (1, 2 and Infinity) with modern assets
NOBODY. FUCKING. WANTS. THIS. FAGGOT,
leave the old games alone and create something entirely new with a new story and make a new campaign based on teh OG craig mullins concept are and FUCK OFF
it also seems that they stole the guy's entire artstyle
This is a bullshit meme that seems to be propagated by the artist.
Except for the genuine plagirism (as in the literally copy-pasted stuff) It's like someone painting a painting in an impressionist style and claiming they're ripping off monet.
No one has a monopoly on graphic design.
No, it can't be saved. Bungie should be dissolved and the Destiny 2 servers should be taken down and the game deleted, everything about Marathon scrapped, forever forgotten as if it never happened. The only way forward is to pretend Bungie simply retired after Halo Reach.
>Take another 12 or so months and remake the trilogy
HELL no what the fuck
I do, cry about it, loser.
There is another easy way they can redeem themselves
It's a long way down
No one actually knows if this loss design was ever used in any of the artwork Bungie stole. The context in the map is it's some shit scribbled on a whiteboard, but the original artist still hasn't revealed which drawing actually has loss in it, his only one hand-drawn image in this style is at the very start of his Tumblr and it's not there either. This specifically could be a coincidence but the rest of what they stole absolutely isn't.

some guy put two arrows on top of each other in an image and thinks that means he created a brand new graphic. he's going to absolutely flip his shit when he finds out about the symbol the army has used for sergeant since before he was born.
make an entirely new campaign
Would take too long, what you are proposing would have been a good idea at the start, but at this stage of development the best they can do is to make a remake of the original trilogy.
They don't have the people or the mandate to do what's necessary, and it's saddled with AAA or AAAA levels of wasted spend.
I know you're at a loss, but rather than just call you a bitch ass faggot, I'll help. Here you go, you bitch ass faggot.
you an the two other retards seriously think anyone doesn't know about loss? Absolute retard.
you think you do but you don't
they'll remake it, it'll have easily avoidable modern issues, and you'll be the among the first here bitching about it
The game was doomed they decided they wanted to make a premium-priced live service based off a trend that peaked six years ago.
The art plagiarism, or really just straight up theft at this point, is just turning a slow motion car crash into a comedy.
they'll remake it, it'll have easily avoidable modern issues, and you'll be the among the first here bitching about it
Every time.
Just make it PvE. PvP just gets filled with cheaters, it's not even worth releasing PvP games too be honest.
Developers are probably in bed with cheating software "companies" anyway in order to manage it. Why play leapfrog with hackers when you can message them in Discord and control what they put out by "legal immunity"?
Oh yeah that happened
This game is doomed
Or they pay/hire the artist, cancel this shitty project, and recycle the assets into a new project in a different genre because no one wants another goddamn looter shooter.
No. I think you're so incompetent with basic English that you aren't able to articulate what the fuck you're asking about in the first place. You're a completely fucking lost dumbfuck, and I'm shitting on you without you even understanding it without a detailed explanation.
seething
it didn't peak 6 years ago, tarkov is more popular today than back then
The job description of a C-Suite is to literally coast their career through with a 6-7 figure salary. If their time comes for the axe, they will use every inch of their MBA to guaranfuckingtee their golden parachute, it's their job title.
The gameplay itself is ASS. No one actually cares that much about how the game looks.
Hearing that the gunplay in Marathon was total ass and it was slow and boring was fucking hilarious
Bungie is a perfect example of a shell
I get confused when people say Bungie's gunplay is solid.
I personally like it, but that's because I'm biased towards Halo 1 and Metroid Prime.
If you take Titanfall 2's gunplay and movement vs Destiny or Marathon, the latter is (deliberately) 20 years behind.
Destiny is at its best when you're exploring and taking on large waves. Bungie's gun and movement gameplay kinetics aren't interesting enough for a PvP setting.
I mean have you seen Intergalactic? Sony got nothing but Ls and flops coming their way
i always thought their gunplay was shit after the original marathon trilogy
I wouldn't say Combat Evolved is shit, more that Bungie's approach fixed where late 90s FPS were going.
Look at Quake 3, Turok, Blood; they were all so fast. Combat Evolved stripped that movement speed down and made the genre palatable for new players again.
So in a sense, Halo IS the FPS we currently have.
kys faggot
You asked a question that's 6 seconds in google and now you're just going with "I was pretending to be retarded". Eat more shit and call it comedy.
can Marathon be turned around?
No, the game is effectively dead on arrival in its current state, for the following reasons:
the extraction shooter genre (its gametype) is niche, sweaty, and highly specialized
Marathon would be priced at an estimated $40, while its major competitors are either free or parity-priced, but with 10x the content (meaning, Marathon's only value proposition is 'it's new)
meager content offering (three maps, four classes), with guaranteed MTX and season passes
no prox chat, because muh bad words
divisive art style I like it personally, but think it looks like shit the moment you try to add in trees/greenery/foliage
negative reputation for Bungie, bleeding over from their mishandling of Destiny 2's content locking fiasco
negative reputation for Marathon, because nobody wanted an extraction shooter, let alone a hero-based one
plagiarism scandal, which is eroding the game's reputation even further
IMO, the 'Marathon' brand is toxic and there's no shaking that short of a full functional reboot, which is apparently impossible for Bungie given how much they've spent on it.
If it launches in September, it won't be a Concord-level flop, but it will still be a tremendous bomb.
I get confused when people say Bungie's gunplay is solid.
This is some fucking cult, I swear
So many people repeat this mantra
I played Destiny for a few hours, and gunplay wasn't anything special
Maybe it's just a console shooter thing I'm not supposed to understand, dunno
I can't fucking wait for Intergalactic
Not only did Druckmann manage to piss people off purely through storytelling with TLoU2, now he's going to try to tackle religion. Not only that but even though he decided to make it a sci-fi setting he clearly stated he's going to be talking about (read: attacking) an actual real world religion
It's probably going to be Christianity because it's an easy target, but still.
I think they've wasted too much money at this point. They'll either release it in its current state by September on schedule to have a quick death, or cancel it before release.
I played Destiny on launch and it was the boring fucking enemies combined with bullet sponges that made the entire thing feel like shit
you're just describing halo
absolutely seething, lol. Give me your tears
just make a whole new game with the same tech and reskinned assets
BOOM
I'M SO HAPPY SHE OWNS ALL HER ART NOW
Then AI art isn't theft either.
Artist does graphic design work, hides loss on it because it's funny
Years go by, Bungie is working on their new release
For some reason they kinda just lift the entire portfolio of this artist as their game's artstyle
Not even inspiration, it seems they just took chunks of it and reworked a little, if they didn0t just shove the pngs as textures
Artist finds outs, posts it on X because who the fuck has money for a suit this big?
People find said loss meme in the actual game, proving without a matter of doubt the artist's work was lifted, just outright shameless plagiarism.
This has happened before with Bungie so people go feral.
imagine if it was Judaism
wtf is loss
I keep seeing this being said and it literally isnt a word or a phrase in any ceative field wtf are you even saying youre all just paroting eachotherr
the art theft is marathons smallest problem
Yeah, but it's the issue that might land them in legitimate hot water.
its just a weird scenario where 1 employee goes "fuck my employer" and opens himself up to endless lawsuits
it doesnt reflect anything on the overall project
it doesnt reflect anything on the overall project
it literally got it canceled
you know it all dipshit
your definition of cancelled is not mine
"Fuck it. I'm a contracted employee and I'm not going to be here in 2 months"
the game will not be released this september, if ever
sony canceled PAID marketing
its over faggot
its called a delay because of an unforeseen pr issue
whatever you say bud
the game also looks good
oof, grim.
I honestly think it's over
If I'm sony I'm not taking the risk of a second concord
chuds don’t like androgynous tranny character design
trannies don’t like plagiarism, especially when it disenfranchises artists (trannies)
gamers don’t like extraction shooters unless it’s EFT
it is so fucking over for bungie
Serious question, how would you accidentally include a hidden image from a stolen asset?
I understand you can hide shit in jpegs, but how would it manifest in the game like that if that image is used as a texture or as a part of a texture? I guess it depends on how the loss image was "hidden", but did the bungie guys not look at their assets at all and just included it in the game?
I hope everyone on the Marathon team suffers
but did the bungie guys not look at their assets at all and just included it in the game?
This is the most likely explanation.
be bungie employee
see odd design that just looks like a bunch of lines
don’t know what loss is
put design in the game because hur durr
I imagine it went exactly like this
I think the artist Bungie ripped off meant shit like this as being "hidden" loss, not a crude drawing like that, but I don't know. It's pretty clear from other examples that their work was copied, but I don't know about the loss thing
did the bungie guys not look at their assets at all and just included it in the game?
What usually happens when you work for big vidya companies, as an artist, is that they require you to sign away the IP rights to the work you produce at their company.
If you get shitcanned for whatever reason, your assets stay in a folder until somebody uses them, because at that point they are technically the company's property.
Not every employee is in communication with each other, so it's possible that whoever applied that artwork to the game didn't know about the easter eggs. They might not have actually talked with the artist at all.
some guy intentionally downloaded a jpg
submitted it into the game
such mystery.
obviously the employees are contractually prohibited from doing so but the team leads have limited tools to deal with it as the thing works on trust and they're not going to scan entire internet for similar images using some magic tool
not that guy, it isn't
My point is that the image in the OP is clearly not "hidden" in any way. I'd consider stuff like to be a "hidden" loss if it's actually what it's meant to be. You could hide the loss in OP in the metadata of a different file somehow, but it wouldn't show up in the game like that unless a dev dug it out and deliberately put it in the game. Which I guess is possible, but I haven't actually seen the OG artist say that the crude whiteboard loss is drawn by her.
So, you're saying that the Bungie artists just happen to have made a similar artstyle to Antireal's, and then added a loss reference, just like the original artist did, just for the lolz?
Don't forget sony also has that fairgame$ game coming out too kek. What a fucking disaster Jim Ryan has been. Almost on the same scale Mattrick was for Xbox.
I think it's 100% confirmed that they straight stole Antireal's images, considering there's text that lines 1:1 with her stuff
I think the loss thing could be a coincidence unless Antireal confirms that the loss in OP is actually hidden in some of her art. I'd take her word for it at this point, but she hasn't said that
IPs
So just Destiny?
I'll also add that apparently there was some kind of pre-launch event where you could get randomly generated images of some kind, and this one was a possible result. Safe to say that there is someone in the dev team who is aware of the meme, so a coincidence is not out of the question
Multimillion Dorrar investment ruined by a fucking Buckley comic.
The gift that keeps on giving. That meme will outlive him.
When Mars is finally colonized some jackass will sculp loss into the surface of the planet.
Kill yourself.
