senran kagura goes so far into the ecchi direction that it ends up being gay and lame. i'd rather have a game about a topless girl who is otherwise in a cool setting with interesting enemy designs, not just copy pasted highschoolers.

Nintendo prob informed devs they were only temporarily letting ecchi on their consoles until the end of the generation (they are worse than Sony with it now), that's why most ecchi devs just abandoned the style instead of pressing on on Switch.

It's such a terrible situation because it let's Chinese Gacha Trash run rampant while Japanese Devs won't make Ecchi Games anymore because Markets keep denying them.

The rest are now getting fucked by Nintendo as they chose to follow Sony in quashing the otaku fanservice game market. Even formerly stalwart hold-ons like Eastasiasoft are now tapping out. Neptunia games after Super Neptunia RPG have next to zero fanservice, not even the standard bath/onsen scenes that were in virtually every single game before, or they're covered with towels, defeating basically the whole point. Not just Neptunia, either, almost all of Compile Heart's games after 2020 are gutless. Mary Skelter Finale was the last decent game from them. Shit like pic related used to be practically standard in Compile Heart games.

I doubt Nintendo informed anyone, or you wouldn't have had situations like IFI with the Neptunia Re;Births or Eastasiasoft with Tokyo Clanpool where they clearly got blindsided. They explicitly said before the turn of the decade they would not engage in this and it is bad for the industry. Yet here they are, doing the exact thing they themselves said was bad.
The only option so far is to try and create a new market outside of the usual storefronts. But that would require at least a few notable devs to stick their neck out for it by supporting it with releases. You can see with releases like Scar-Lead that the legacy base of these companies is not satisfied with their attempts to make games without fanservice. I guess they could try doing what H-game devs to get their games on Steam (rip out 90% of the game from the Steam build to release it as a patch), but sometimes that doesn't work either, and you only get one chance.
Only because that one was already released in Japan, and it's not nearly as valuable as the games they did before which didn't have English releases and thus were basically new to English speakers. Now ask them if they want to do Castle Panzers, one of their most requested titles (pic related) still. Fuck, their most recently announced IF collab was a fucking otome!

honestly the game was just too lazy about everything. like you could customize a character's underwear, but it wasn't actually under the regular clothes, just a separate outfit that it would switch to when the regular clothes were destroyed. also most of the underwear was just a texture overlay and not actually modeled. there was tons of stuff they could have done to make the game more erotic, but they never went beyond half assed gimmicks.
