Valve fixed Linux

The fuck are you still using Windows for??

file.png - 751x297, 230.59K

I'll not use any Valve products after what they did to the Artifact fanbase.

The fuck are you still using Windows for??

Visual Studio

Windows has always just worked. I don't care if it uses 1% of my 64gb of ram at idle or sells my heckin data. Linux on my steam deck is unfit to be a serious desktop OS.

The fuck are you still using Windows for??

Video games.

Just can’t be bothered really. Everything I want to do is on Windows.

The fuck are you still using Windows for??

I have an Nvidia card.

They literally didn't and outright say they don't recommend using it for desktop use. Can you fuckers read?

Been quite a while i don't boot into my windows partition.

A fully truly open standard and libre & open-sourced GPU would change the operating system market in a year max.

Windows doesn't charge a 30% transaction fee on every purchase I make within the OS like it's a fucking apple product.
Kill yourself, steamie.

I switched like two months ago and have been enjoying it. Using steamOS as your distro is retarded, just use a normal distro and install the necessary components for gaming.

Linux users need to fix that before they're able to read

linux is for nerds

I have a Nvidia card and switched and everything seems peachy.

They're already pushing for total control of the OS and app purchases with S-mode they rolled out with W11. And the price for selling a game on the windows store is 30% :)

Until I can install steam like normal (not through flatpak) and download my games through the steam client and have them simply run with no extra tweaking, I'll stick with windows. Yes, most stuff works fine through proton, but it's the 5% of stuff that doesn't work that annoys me enough that I will gladly continue to suck microsoft cock.

I'm getting a 20% less performance on linux.
4060 user.
On linux mint cinnamon using the heroic launcher.
Where is the problem? 4060, the drivers, mint, heroic or the wine/proton version?
I really want to make the change to linux.

Man I guess that means everybody else should move because you also have an Nvidia card

I'm not sure, I just switched to linux and followed regular tutorials on how to install shit and performance seems to be the same between windows/linux for me. I'm on NixOS/Kde but I wouldn't recommend NixOS.

When there's only one version of Proton
No different type of versions, Wayland, x11, flat packs...
Good Nvidia drivers
And a good OS, cachyOS sucked, popOS sucks, Mint is mid
And Wallpaper engine compatibility

I'm using the newest available drivers for linux.
I've tested a couple of games.
Days gone, ghostrunner 2, expedition 33. They perform around 15% to 20% worse on mint.
I don't know what else to do.

I'm cucked until Nvidia cards compatibility

Do you have the recent open source drivers too? That's pretty much all I can think of but you might have better luck in a Linux thread on Anon Babble or something because I'm a genuine newbie to it in general too.

uhm for all the things that dont work on linux for example

Mint

There's your problem

I can't deal with all the the fucking stuttering. I'm constantly firefighting some form of stutter. VRR will randomly stop working (monitor running at 144hz). VRR will be working but it's clearly stuttering (fluctuating up to 144hz). Sometimes restarting plasma / kwin fixes it. Sometimes a full reboot is required.
I'm not even playing anything taxing. It's so fucking inconsistent.

When there's only one version of Proton

Don't you just use the latest available version 99% of the time.
The only time I had to use a different version was due to playing a niche VN.

What should I use?
Arch, gentoo?
And why is mint the problem what exactly?

nta but I just use the latest ver of proton-ge on everything and it just works for everything I've tried so far

What did you meant by >and it just works
Performs the same as in windows 10 or just working not crashing have big issues?

Performs the some as w10.

Linux, Drivers? lol lmao even.

For all the good they do, sometimes they fuck up.
I'm currently seething about Mike removing nine from mesa. I needed that for an old libreboot thinkpad I use now and then because dxvk is a no-go and wined3d has enough overhead to make it a bad idea. Now I'm cucked out of mesa updates unless I do a lot of manual labor to revert and forward port.

issues with game mods

That's entirely a skill issue, winetricks dotnet48 next time before trying anything .NET based because wine mono is shit

or bottles to make it even simpler

im not autistic enough for linux

was there even anything as a "artifact fanbase" ?

What are u on about anon.
Im not yet linux troon like you.
I don't know the terms.
Maybe if I cut my penis and dilate for a couple of years maybe then I can laugh at random people that want to make a genuine change.

They're already pushing for total control of the OS and app purchases with S-mode they rolled out with W11.

It's from Win10 and you can exit it, but can't come back.

And the price for selling a game on the windows store is 30% :)

It's 12%

Using linux is extremely simple. You are just fueling these retards who make using an OS part of their identity.

The moment SteamOS is available for desktop PCs, I'll give it a shot.

When there's only one version of Proton

The older versions are not for you. It's so that games that have been confirmed to run on a specific version stay stable. Just run the latest version.

Linux has like 5 programs that work and they're all inferior to what's on Windows.

Can I double click to install a program or do I have to finger blast the cmd line overtime in want to do basic functions

You could just run bazzite.

What is the latest version?
Hotfix?
Experimental?
10 Beta?

im not autistic enough for linux

*proceeds to run 20 debloat scripts from shady russian websites as admin*

You can click 'Install' in a GUI or use terminal it entirely depends on the distro

Because I'm not trans

Windows.

I just use Experimental. Hotfix is when Valve needs to push a quick fix for a single game without having to worry about others breaking. Experimental is just the latest numbered release plus some still experimental features.

image0-15.png - 996x525, 194.01K

force adaptive sync to always in KDE display settings

no more stutter

Everything is fucking amazing now.

It still struggles with anti cheats and I'm a retard boomer who needs his korean mmo grind fix

Arch, it's where all the vidya support goes towards because that's what steamOS uses.

Niggers in this thread acting like cachyOS doesn't exist. No wonder everything is going to shit. Even people looking for alternatives are retards

Is that some new linux distribution. Never heard of it.

tried linux mint because people say it's the most retard-proof distro

couldn't get anything to run because of compatibility

wine this, proton that

guess i'll just stick with windows until 2032.

I mean it works but im suffering w performance loss on nvidia. I don't have amd card to test but I've heard they perform the same or sometime better under linux.

3 year old meme

that too.
i use nvidia so i guess my performance would also be real shit.

It all goes downstream. Arch is just the first. Distros are not competitors thus every distro gets that support eventually.

I'm trying to get the SB demo to work on Ubuntu after a long break from Linux. It doesn't want to use my NVIDIA GPU, it's trying to run the game on the shitty integrated AMD whatever.

Very specific anon. I'm sure that happened.

amd driver support on linux is decent due to opengl autists, vulcan performs overall the same tho

im scared to swap to linux. i currently have a bootable linux distro called fedora on a usb drive that i need to test out to see if i like it but it just seems so overwhelming to swap

It was such a nice meme that you made an entire thread about it.

And people still listen to this retard. Linus has always been a tech illiterate spec sheer reading retard. He has very little enterprise experience and it shows.

that's on linux too though

Mint is a joke, who tf keeps recommending it? A few years back i gave using it a serious attempt and all that happened was games crashing, the OS crashing, and my gpu shitting itself. And i was using a new amd gpu with it, but the bugs were so bad i was convinced it was faulty or something. Turns out mint also comes with really outdated packages which may or may not have been the problem, but it definitely fucks you over. Im not here for that 'ultra stability' crap, i fucking play games, i need newer packages

Users should not consider SteamOS as a replacement for their desktop operating system.

everyone always fail to mention steam OS is immutable so you cant install packages from pacman/AUR by default, and even if you do unlock the system to install them, they will be wiped next time a system update hits
if you want full control of your OS and updated packages you need to use arch

Yes, and Valve screwed them over.

VSCode is, but the regular one is not.
And visual studio do have some shit VSCode don't, like a performance profiler.

I'm happy to be a cuck

several warnings telling him not to do this

proceeds anyway

DSP-tier

is that "artifact fanbase" with us in the room right now ?

post it.

it doesn't work through wine? I've only really used VS code and haven't touched the original VS in years

tried toilet because people say it's retard-proof

couldn't poo in the loo

flush this, wipe that

guess i'll just stick with designated shitting streets

Some games dont work. I was playing the new ghosts n goblins and shit started crashing on Deck.

What is everything you want to do?

We maintain a low profile. But we walk among you. We're in your schools, your churches, your banks and places of work.

Never tried to be honest, but given the cancer it is i doubt it runs well.

It's honestly really crazy to me that people still post super vague "my system crashed and I lost all my data" made up stories whenever you get real

I used linux and it was super annoying

posts, it's always shit like

HOLY FUCK CRASH BANDICOOT N. SANE TRILOGY TRUNCATES LOCATION STRINGS FOR LOADING LEVELS AND THE LOCATION LENGTH IS TOO LONG IN THE DEFAULT DIRECTORY FOR STEAM

WHY THE FUCK DOES SPYRO REIGNITED PERMANENTLY BREAK YOUR CONTROLS IF A CUTSCENE FAILS TO PLAY

WHAT DO YOU MEAN BOOBS.JPG AND BOOBS.jpg ARE TWO DIFFERENT FILES?

Unintentionally, and hilariously outline actual issues that aren't platform specific. (The first two bugs happen regardless of OS and actually happen technically on the Xbox/PS/Nint releases of said games)

bonk.jpg - 654x479, 100.05K

everything on your desktop stutters when a shit app runs at 24hz for no reason at all

debian niggas

want to play Doom: the dark ages

game crashes on startup

have to add a repo for newer mesa drivers

update system and restart

game gets to main screen but crashes when the level starts

add another repo with even newer drivers

update system and restart

the graphics are corrupted and full of artefacts

decide to compile mesa drivers myself

finally the game loads but the performance is dogshit (half of windows)

see that AMDVLK is the recommended driver for dark ages

unpack that, update some configs, add som launch options

game doesn't launch at all now

restart steam using terminal so i can get some output on whats failing

gamescope isn't happy with AMDVLK with RADV as main drivers

have to run the game without gamescope because gamescope doesn't support RADV while referencing AMDVLK

game finally launches and plays with good performance and graphics

when I close the game KDE is stuttering because VRR is engaged on my desktop

fix the stuttering by logging out and back in

now VRR is completely broken and stops working so other games are stuttering

have to reboot PC after playing the dark ages

The time tax on linux is real.

Linux is pretty good to revive dead shit or obsolete computers.
It can turn old macs from machines that are supported by fucking nothing that get absolutely destroyed by newer versions of OSX into working workhorses.
You don't NEED to use linux on your main machine, and in some cases it's a bad idea, but it would be a decent one to revive a laptop or something to be a TV computer.

Time to switch then, steam was native far before it was flatpak'd, and the last game I had to tweak to get running was probably Saint's Row 2 in January. But I think that game needs tweaks to run on W10/11 anyway.

*Ruined.
Like google did.
Kill anyone that uses steam.

porn games

t. niggers that invested all their money into that stupid shit thinking it would go to the moon like MTG cardboard
enjoy holding the bag you massive retard

>want to play Doom: the dark ages

photoshop is the only thing holding me back. no gimp is not comparable

tried krita?

want to play Doom: the dark ages

It didn't happen but you deserved it.

you can run photoslop up to CC 2022 in wine

I have literally none of those issues on Arch :^)

last time I tried the pen drivers were fucked in wine

is nobara still the best distro for gaymen?
no but i should get around to giving it a whirl

brainlet

Until I can install steam like normal (not through flatpak)

Nobody is holding you at gun point and forcing you to use the flatpak version.

And Wallpaper engine compatibility

If all you need is a video or .gif wallpaper, this is supported out of the box on multiple DEs. If you specifically need wallpaper engine, then there's a couple of workarounds including this: github.com/catsout/wallpaper-engine-kde-plugin?tab=readme-ov-file

You can. Or you can just use an app store and click "install".

They work fine though?

Kernel version? (uname -a)
Firmware version? (apt info linux-firmware)
Nvidia driver and version? Probably "apt info nvidia-driver" or something. If you find you're using "nouveau" that's your issue, switch to official Nvidia drivers.
Mint follows Ubuntu which is stable aka doesn't get updates for a while, fine for general computing but not great for gaming on relatively new hardware, keep in mind Nvidia are assholes and can't write Linux drivers to save their life so you might just have to eat the 20% loss. You might have to get backports (troublesome and common cause of bugs) or switch to a rolling release distro, Arch is the big daddy of them, I personally prefer Endeavour.

Try Photopea. A lot of my designer friends say it's a good replacement for their personal projects.

nobara

It's good, but sometimes janky and unstable. Bazzite is the new "best OS" both for gaming and regular use.

Try to play Cyberpunk at 4K with Path Tracing on a 9070 XT

30FPS with frame gen enabled

Is this the power of Linux?

Mint is an LTS distro, meaning it's not pushing most updates as soon as they arrive. You're effectively using "Linux, if it's 2 years ago". The LTS release model is designed for servers or machines which don't want feature updates.
Switch to something equally easy, but more up-to-date, like Bazzite or EndavourOS.

Latest stable is 9.0-4 or something, Valve actually discourages using experimental for everything since there may be regressions, the ideal order when encountering a bug is: current stable>experimental>ge>older stable*
*if the game is older and has worked in the past, a new game that doesn't run on Proton probably won't run on 5, but it's not like it can harm anything.

Like it's never

libdvdcss did a poopy and my whole computer did a nuclear explosion and everyone died

It's usually a really specific retarded issue.
