Now I'm going to rent about how pointless the whole battle gameplay change is.
Random encounters has been lowered down in possibility to happen, which would be a good change, if not for the fact you might not encounter certain enemies like January ghoul or and pedalo fights. Why the fuck they didn't move to on-map encounters is beyond me.
The whole battle rework is lazy at best, detrimental at worst. The battles are factually harder, byt only because they made them more sluggish and by removing auto-battle.
Some battles have much more enemies to go through, in comparison to original, which is why you will spend more time in the battle basically managing your resources. The only good thing is you see enemy attack bar now. New crit system is complete shit, since there is no actual player input in it and is mostly here to fuck you over with enemies having 2 actions before your single action, since crits also hasten enemy action bar progress. You can say new battle gameplay is just hp/mp management simulator. Prologue does not give you any status effects to use except poison, and it will persist only for like 2 enemy turns. Therefore, Alpha as Add-On is near to useless, since all it does is dishing out less damage than Batter. I will not talk about all problems with battle UI, since many other anons have mentioned it already. Honestly, soundtrack is the least problem of the remaster, sorry simply because you can replace it, but you can't replace other shit decisions in this turd.

As I said, status effects are there, but only one you have in demo is poison from Alpha. Dedan himself spams sleep on you during the fight.

iirc Nicalis bought out Cave Story from its creator through a contract he couldn't fully understand due to language differences, ripped the IP from him and kinda just left the series to mould over and be vaulted after making a couple of flawed ports of it for various systems with a hodgepodge of different features in each of them to justify constantly re-releasing the same originally free game ad nauseum. The OG creator Pixel did want to make a sequel and do more with the IP however Nicalis more or less jewed him out of it and only really rope him in for the occasional bit of artwork and not much else.
There's probably more I forgot but that's the main thing people gripe over when it comes to Cave Story's handling.
