I feel ya, joined in 2009. I miss when the games were just fun playgrounds and weren't trying to mimic some mobile game. Games like Underground Warfare or A Pirates. No rounds, no real end goal to "win" just play until you get bored.

seeing the obscure lego game i used to play being sold in every convenience store, the roblox cards and figures, is a cultural shock to me, as well as the gameplay in modern roblox. game feels difference in some ways and in other ways not at all.

the controls have not changed too much at all in 20 years. jumping & jump height is all about the same, chatting uses the same button, many things have stayed faithful. but i can't look past the fact that every game is laden with smartphone game-tier microtransaction bullshit with screen element spam that practically begs you to whip out your credit card for a better experience. most old games on roblox are broken because roblox has no sense of self preservation.

anyhow, that's just my opinion, as someone who watched roblox slowly turn into this. there are still decent games on roblox, they're just MUCH harder to find.

I watched a zoomer play this recently and all of the "games" were unbelievable fucking slop, most of which demanded some kind of currency that I really hope they didn't pay real money for. Maybe there's some good games somewhere in there but it looks like it's heavily optimized towards churning out garbage.

The unstructured nature makes it good as a “daily hang out” thing since there isn’t the pressure of winning a particular activity or being good at anything really. But if you’re playing Roblox and aren’t A. a kid, and B. playing it with RL friends, you need to examine your life choices.
