I did not care for Final Fantasy X

It's fine as long as your favorite isn't 7. Otherwise you're just being contrarian faggot

That's a normal opinion anon. Alot of people don't like FFX

I think a lot of the FFX hate could be avoided if people just played with the original Japanese dub enabled.
I fucking despise the encounter system though.

Me neither. It insists upon itself.

How is that a hot take

Me neither, anon. Always surprises me to see people that group it with VI~IX as a "good FF" game when for me it's when the series jumped the shark in being overly cinematic, linear, J-pop drama storytelling. I legit could not tell you what's the big difference between X and something like Crisis Core a decade later. It opened the floodgates. Whenver I see someone cooming over X and calling it the best story in JRPGs or something wild like that I just assume that person grew up with the game and Tidus x Yuna was the first love story they ever experienced in media.

Why not?

Nah
There's some incredible comfy about playing old ps2 games with horrible voice acting.

Playing it on Japanese it's like eating a chicken burger without ketchup

Shit thread

Because it's incredibly linear, the sphere grid is a neat idea but ultimately kinda restrictive early on, Tidus sounds like a dying vacuum in English, and the whole "laughing scene" became internet cringe for a reason. Also, the tone swings harder than a JRPG mood swing chart—one minute you're in a tropical beach resort, next you're grieving over a dead dad ghost summoned to fight God. It tries to juggle so much and ends up feeling more artificial than emotional.

t. seething Tidus

turn-cringe combat

it was never good

and the whole "laughing scene" became internet cringe for a reason

because the internet is full of illiterates like you?

couldn't skip boss intro cutscenes

linear

not necessarily a bad thing, not to mention that it opens up near the end just like most final fantasy games

"laughing scene"

is meant to be cringe

tone swings

fake buzzword you made up because you couldn't think of any real flaw

Because it was Kingdom Hearts before Kingdom Hearts

tone swings

If anything the game is too serious.
FF VII had way more humor/light moments, while x is fairly heavy the whole time.

It's because X is the only playstation FF with characters who feel like real humans (Rikku aside, obviously). Whether you like them or not is another question, but X is the only game since VI where the characters felt realistic instead of feeling like anime characters. There's nothing wrong with jrpgs feeling like anime and I still think VII and IX are better than X overall, but X's characters are far more relatable and that's important to some people. I don't believe any one who has ever lived thinks it's the best jrpg story or that Tidus x Yuna is particularly compelling though (him walking through her at the end was real neat however).

Because it's a serious game

to every X hater here, tell me which FF is supposed to have a better story than it, VII is the only real contender but the others are much worse

FFX is literally the entry point of the series, if you do not like FFX you won't like the others.
I guess there's FF7 remake but still

It's literally the best JRPG ever made

IX and XII

Tidus sounds like a dying vacuum in English, and the whole "laughing scene" became internet cringe for a reason

Tidus sounds perfectly appropriate for a terrified teenager who has essentially been Isekaid by an eldritch horror and is trying to make the best of it. Does that sound annoying at times? Sure, but that's entirely appropriate. Do you also hate it when the bad guy in a movie does something bad?

IX

lmao

Yeah IX’s story is better than X’s in every way.

if you say so

XII

lmao

I've dropped every single 3D Final Fantasy game.

(You)

Pretty much this. If you've never played FF and you don't like X you probably won't like any other ones bar the nuDmC ones. Maybe 4/6 if you're a pixel purist

Great, another thread to argue about whether or not the laughing scene was poorly acted or meant to be cringe. It was intentional

Ff7 and tactics

I'd go a step further and say that being unable to quickly skip dialog in general is a borderline deal breaker. It's understandable why they did it but I'll always think full voice acting is a mistake.

I simply do not care for final fantasy at all. I really don't see what people like about the franchise so much.

complaining about the laughing scene

Telltale sign you haven't played the game.

This is a wild thing to say when shitloads of people started with 7

Im playing FFX right now (after a few hours modding the dogshit remaster models out) and its still great but the voice acting is incredibly flat and weird outside of a few characters like Auron and Wakka. You can tell they werent in the same room when doing lines.

The game was much more linear than I remember, you can only start kinda backtracking when you reach the plains, other than that I still think its a solid FF and one of the best. Still prefer playing Dragon Quest over Final Fantasy, especially with how dogshit the series has become.

It just feels incomplete and shoddy. Like they had new tech but restricted themselves instead of going wild like with FF7. Dull characters, unrealized setting, almost-good battle system... just not a good game.

There are mods that restore the PS2 models now?

not the original models but a guy has made models close as he could to the original and made seperate models for cutscenes and gameplay

For me, it's people forgetting Tidus was already resurrected at the end of X-1

some of the original remaster models were pathetically done

make an insanely hot goth bitch tittygirl in leather and fur with lace

put her in a tropical setting

the beginning of the end for Square knowing what the fuck they were even doing anymore

Is there anything that makes the UI closer to the original?

I always thought his face was supposed to be veiny

I've never been able to finish a single Final Fantasy game besides 16. It's not even that I don't like turn based games because I have beaten Persona 3 like 10 times.

nope, nobody has taken up the challenge for that yet I think. Personally I kinda like the new menus but I would prefer the remaster be as close to the original as possible

Dull characters

X

Yeah, i loved deep characters like Amarant

My issues with FFT

Sphere grid is ass - the abilities it chooses, the way it's structured, the pace. Ass

A lot of the 'classes' are ass too, just boring ass abilities.

The cool shit, like Rikku's overdrive, is completely arcane.

summoning is badly paced

worse side quests in the series

Tidus doesn't get to breed Lulu

The story and characters are excellent and the chassis of a very good game is there.

If they ever did a remake, I'd want it to have the same mechanics but just make the abilities/progression system more fun.

Also fuck the unskippable cutscenes before hard boss battles.

Yeah, i loved deep characters like Kimahri*

ftfy

I would rather replay FF13 than ever play FF10 again. At least XP is shared in FF13 when you aren't playing with a character which makes it way less tedious.

Kimahri >>>>> Gau, Umaru, Gogo, Mog, Vincent, Amarant, Eiko combined.

no argument over Kimahri being shit even though he came after all those

lmfao

First FF you saw Mix?

Can we post Lulu at least, I want to smooch that black mage.

There's a mod that gives an optional toggle that shares the AP with everyone at the end of battle and makes the remaster functional on PC, it also has the option to auto scan every monster but that one is a bit cheaty

steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=683802394

Its a very good game

7 and 10 have nothing to do with each other so you could totally like one and not the other
