Do you still play an MMO?
Looking forward to a new one?
Which one do you miss the most?
Got any schizo ideas to save the genre?
Do you still play an MMO?
is this new Flyff?
Ye time to time
mushroom game
I miss playing random new MMOs every other week with Anon Babble back in the late 2000s.
miss Blade and Soul PVP, it felt so right until they updoot stats and had to balance shit(this one had the best pvp scene/sytem in mmo's)
currently playing Black Desert Online, i dont leave mmo until its dead
oh also
Got any schizo ideas to save the genre?
yeah dont add fucking modern clothes looking at you Asian countries
that's old mabinogi
there's literally a group on Anon Babble right now that plays new mmos every 2 weeks together.
i did but stopped when i didnt like how controllers inputs felt. i just lurk around hoping an update interests me
I spent some time with that group and it was not the same at all.
The Bitcraft and Conquest of Azeroth open betas have been nice, I enjoy how completely opposite they are.
Got any schizo ideas to save the genre?
Yes, I've actually used the archive to autisticly read through every MMO design thread we've had dating back to around 2012 in order to form the ultimate MMO idea but it would take too long to post, I plan on making my own thread about it soon.
There is a Bitcraft open beta? Is that any good? What kind of game is it?
Mabinogi is one of those games that started out great but then was turned into gachashit anime weeb pedo game.
I play the same 3 20 year old MMOs, nothing newer peaks my interest and I've lost faith in the genre ever being able to again.
it's a dogshit tier sandbox
survival open world crafting indie
New MMOs use the absolute worst design elements the genre came up with and they fucking keep doing it over and over again. Even worse most of them are released as cashgrabs with no intention for long term updates. As such they don't need to succeed in making a good game they only need to succeed in creating hype.
is maple even comprehensible as a newish (returning after 15+ years) player? wanna get back into it but watching videos it seems like theres so many convluted systems its not even worth trying
Is anyone playing Tree of savior? Is that fun with a team or anything like that?
A classic server got announced recently, just wait for that.
no, even the thread for it admits nobody plays. The game has two versions canibalizing one another and killing both.
No good pserver either, just wait for the sequel
Oh well I hope it's good for the people that enjoy those games I guess.
dfo should do a progression server
it's fuck as fuck but there like 20 hours of doing balls shit easy quests til any challenges come and if you skip it you have to watch YouTube tutorials
naturally starting as a new player suuucks
No. It was somewhat fun on launch also fucking BUGGY and LAGGY but the current live versions are fucking awful.
No good pserver either,
I haven't tried them but they could be better than the officials. If not right now then maybe in the future. They have more of a future than the officials do.
just wait for the sequel
Are they making one? The devs are so incompetent I can't exactly get excited for it even if they are making a new game.
It's a Wurm-like so most of the gameplay is players grinding gather/craft skills and pooling their resources to make player settlements. It plays like Runescape and most gameplay amounts to having your guy craft while you watch a movie and chat with other players.
This will either sound extremely appealing to you or extremely not.
I miss when things were planned around being a subscription only MMO with no micro transactions. No bullshit traps or schemes to get you to buy cash shop stuff, all cosmetics earned in game, prime goal of the game isn't to get you to swipe your credit card as much as possible but to remain engaging enough so that you stay subscribed.
But I recognize that this model is doomed because most games with it failed, but I really do prefer it.
What even is the gameplay of DFO? I feel like no one's been able to clearly explain it.
no not really. i dont have anything in my mind that i want to play. classic pso2 on jp servers. no clue, wow has basically killed the genre long ago. sandbox mmos now are pretty meh. i have turtlewow installed, but im too lazy to start on it since i dont have a group and whatnot, and i will be basically be playing from zero knowledge since wow never has really interested me.
20 hours of doing balls shit easy quests til any challenges come
Why do so many MMOs do this? I get that they want players to be able to catch up but playing like that as a new player is miserable. A game can't be faceroll borefest up to level cap. That shit chases away players.
Subscription is the only way truly. I wouldn't say most games failed with it. It's that the profits come steadily over multiple years instead of in one huge chunk with 100-200$ founders packs and cosmetic/p2w fomo. Companies having realized they can't make a WoW killer they started making cash grabs. Once a cash grab has been released the entire team starts working on the next one with maybe a little support team left to push a couple updates so the players don't cry too much.
Have you ever played Golden Axe?
It's that but crank it to 11 and add in a ton of Diablo gear.
Dragons Crown from Vanilla ware is another good comparison
It's a sidescrolling beat-em-up. They were common in the 2d era of consoles. Anon gave good examples.
New to you does not equal new anon.
You're too late to play WoW. It's better to not. All the magic is gone and what's left is people who have been playing it for 20 years and can't let go. You can imagine what that does to a nigga.
no shit, we can't go back
that doesn't mean there isn't some enjoyment to be had from playing old mmos in that manner
I played a ton of mmos back then and even I missed some of the ones they've played. surely something is new to you and worth playing
idc i play gw2 its comfy grindan and i like the atmosphere about to craft legendary trinket aurora and double conflux rings as soon as i finish the druid henge cheevo
Looking forward to a new one?
As an anime MMO enjoyer there simply aren't any. Every single company behind popular 2000s anime MMOs have all jumped ship to mobile trash and nobody new is interested in moving in on the market.
Still playing Ragna/v/.
rentry.org/ragnav
yeah
nyo
nah
not really
It hurts my soul to see all this mobileshit that could've been decent if they had made it purely with PC in mind and without the mobileshit elements. All that effort wasted to make mobileshit. It is a crime against gamers.
I play Planetside 2 about every other day.
I just can't go back to RO
it has lost that magic
Waiting for Star Resonance, after that flops I'm done.
ywnbj
Do you still play an MMO?
I still play Mabinogi after I got into it in like late ~2021. Currently waiting for the Summer Master Plan event before I do more grinding. No intention on going back to XIV after I finished Endwalker however long ago; as far as I was concerned the story was over and I didn't want to know what happens next.
Which one do you miss the most?
Pre-skill cape Runescape. Also not really an MMO, but base PSO2. NGS is so bad.
It's mobile/PC crossplay but it's not as sloppy as most, and it's an actual MMO not some gacha shit pretending to be an MMO.
youtube.com
What's up with that? Blue Protocol never got a western release right? Are they reworking the game somehow?
How is that, Ive been thinking about that game a lot lately and how nothing else really exists as a successor. I actually think it's been so long since that game came out that there's probably a sizable amount of people that would be impressed by it if they knew it existed.
mobile
guaranteed sloppa
I was more referring to the overall climate and userbase of Anon Babble. Being in my late teens and playing games with my peers is night and day compared to trying to play games with literal children half my age who want to argue and fight and get upset over the most minor trivial inconveniences. I'm too old for this shit.
Tencent bought the rights to it after Bandai (naturally) shut it down, they then reworked it into a different game using the same assets and IP, similar to how XIV had ARR, it's also being released this year in the west, was already announced.
Chinks once again proving they're less retarded than Japs.
I want to play mabinogi because of reincarnation, how does it work?
the thread is full of shitposting and we've attracted a schizo or two
don't mistake that's how it goes in game
Blue Protocol SR or Mabinogi mobile if it ever comes to global server
on june 11th a new major update/event begins and if interested you can begin with challengers server
you likely still will need guides but all the various tutorials and such should make the beginning of the game streamlined
How much did they change? If I got it right the original was a 4-5 player instanced game and not a proper MMORPG.
No MMOs being played nor looked forward to.
Miss Asheron's Call.
Got any schizo ideas to save the genre?
Everquest Next getting uncanceled and finished.
MMORTS where each player controls a squad of soldiers, each player fighting in a persistent never-ending war between five factions over territory across a planet. Three player factions, two NPC factions, giving players the option for PvP, PvE or PvPvE where such frontlines exist, or they can do logistics/supplies/escort/behind enemy lines sabotage stuff.
Play single player MMOs.
store.steampowered.com
Mabinogi mobile if it ever comes to global server
sadly that's pure mobileshit
Schizo ideas.
Oh boy do I. Golden Sun MMO.
just have a real big focus on sokobon styled cooperative puzzles. You need a mixed party to progress regardless of their combat abilities.
Also include plenty of traps in the puzzles to get party members stuck.
There will be an escape spell or something to bail out and start again.
Combat will have friendly fire as well. So the big summon spells will be extra fun when you need them to clear out the tougher enemies.
Djinns will also be a kind of torture. You can find them or trade them. But only for another djinns and you can't hold two of the same kind.
Also fuck sane balancing. Djinns power just scales inversely on how many are in the world. So nothing ever gets too good or too bad.
Level cap is 20.
Once a party successfully completes the main dungeons, apocalypse event happens and server reset gives good players a seasonal cosmetic and everyone gets a blank slate.
From what I know is that everything is basically the same but the monetization is more fair?
You have a level cap of 200. Every time you level you get AP to use to level up skills or some other functions that require AP like changing Arcana classes or GM titles etc. Leveling up also levels up certain skills if you have them unlocked (most of these are from the story). When you rebirth you get to pick a different combat/life talent that gives you more experience and different stats for that talent and you go back to level 1. You also have a "total" level that gives you bonuses for every X amount of levels you have gained on that character, which caps out at like 40k I think (I only hit that amount kind of recently). You can rebirth every few real days or if you have a rebirth potion.
before raids atleast the dungeons scaled and became more complex as you leveled up. now their mostly rooms with monster, barely any puzzles until you fight event bosses, which are fun until you overlevel and beat them too fast
No. Stop shilling your shitty game here.
it's actually a pc first then mobile second
from what I know in order to do actual content you would want to play on a pc since there are more than just 3 buttons as on various gacha
Every week you can reincarnate to a younger age and change your main talent. Talents aren't classes, the game is classless, but it does dictate which stats you gain upon leveling up.
When you rebirth your age can go down or stay the same, on saturdays you age up.
Rebirthing resets your level back to 1 with a cap of 200. You do not gain stats permanently from these levels but rather get AP which is used for a variety of things.
I'm going to keep posting about video games I like on the video game board, newfag.
The original was also a proper MMORPG, but it was more like PSO2NGS, areas only had up to around 20 players allowed at once before a new instance was made, it had instanced dungeons too like every MMO, funnily enough it relied less on dungeons than other games and had more open world grinding, so it was probably the most MMO-like game to come out recently.
But they changed pretty much everything, combat is different, they added new classes and removed some, added tank/healer roles, added specs to classes so they have 2 playstyles each, dungeons are different, world map is different, systems are different, the world is no longer limited and you can have hundreds of players at once, it's too much to list but it's not really the same game aside from having the same graphics.
Here's a video going over all the classes/specs
youtube.com
I'm actually looking forward to the steam release of aura kingdom
From what I've seen it's better than most mobile games. I'm willing to give anything a shot at this point. Desperate for mmos and I don't have grumpy boomer hate brain yet.
what about those minecraft MMOs?
I didn't do PvP much in Blade and Soul, but I loved the combat system all the same, it was really punchy even in PvE. Some of the best ever in the genre.
I haven't played an MMO in ages. The ideal one for me, with just the right mix of features, doesn't really exist right now. I'm also not constantly social, I just like playing and chatting in a persistent world where other people also present. I prefer the socialization and group content to be occasional and partly optional.
My schizo idea is that MMOs are going to remain a relatively dormant genre until full-dive VR is cracked and commercialized. Zoomers and alphas are too antisocial and wikibrained to enjoy these games as they are now, but forcing them to come literally face-to-face with others in-game could fix that and rejuvenate the genre.
The only thing I know about Minecraft MMOs is that they are full of pedophiles and incredibly p2w
areas only had up to around 20 players allowed at once before a new instance was made
That doesn't exactly feel like a proper MMORPG to me.
Those changes sound alright though. Worth checking out whenever it comes. Do they have a more accurate date than "2025" that's on the steam page?
Does character appearance and name change?
Honestly, I've never played an MMO where you have tons of people in the same place for any real reason anyway, so even if a limit like that exists it all feels the same to me, most MMOs are just instanced dungeon grinders which is 4-8 players at most, the world is typically irrelevant, which is why Blue Protocol felt more like an MMO to me since the world was actually used despite the low player limit.
But no, all we have is 2025, they just finished a CBT in China and currently doing NDA tests there too, if I had to guess it'll come out within the next few months though.
I'm not saying I won't try it when global comes tried using my old nexon kr account for it but they wanted me to re-verify with a phone number RIP
but from the videos it absolutely looks like total mobileshit in almost every way possible
appearance changes based on age and weight but it's the same character getting young again when you rebirth
I know it functionally might not make a difference but it feels wrong to have instanced zones instead of an open world.
I always have the desire to play an MMO again but I just don't have the time or motivation to put effort into one. Wish I could sink the time into one with the bros like when I was a kid.
looks like total mobileshit in almost every way possible
This loos much different than other mobile MMOs i've played
They're not even timesinks anymore, they're made for people like you who have no time, all you can do is daily shit and log off since there's nothing worth grinding.
this group is full of discord troons logging in to post a screenshot twice a week and dont actually "play" any games
guild wars 2 ?
massive meta events happen all the time with 50+ people
world vs world 150 vs 150 vs 150 pvp battles
It's bizarre that there isn't a good MMO in 2025.
Why does the catalog keep breaking? Anyway, MMOs have been obsolete since TOR.
I haven't heard that in 15 years
I imagine it's because companies don't want to risk putting the money and time into one just for it to fail.
osrs off and on.
zerging for one ecto
150 is just asking in the base or blob that just run around
No way fag
some MMO-like bossing doesn't save it if the rest of the game is covered in mobileshit
been playing the same mmo since i was a kid, is almost 20 years old by this point and the community is on their late 20 mid 30s,sometimes we have to pause raids because someone has to deal with their kid lmao
My schizo idea is dogma online 2 with English this time
oh look the schizo shitposter has arrived
elsword
because I like hot bitches
i like elsword but i fucking despise that every fucking gear has to be a raid drop, it’s the same reason is toped playing lost ark
Blue Protocol was bad enough as it was, I can't imagine being bought by the Chinese, reworked for mobile and rereleased will help.
It's actually better than the original, by far.
people play WoW and FFXIV
those are glorified mobile shit too
In what way?
is that nostale?
Yes, but a private server, its Olympus but right now that just make a special server to make people catch up with basically double everything, I will leave you the link if you want to try it.
Better combat, class design, higher player cap in the world, more than 1 day of content, dungeons have mechanics beyond "do damage and jump over the purple wave", more social features, guild content, and so on.
Blue Protocol only ended up in its state because of Bandai, really. Though it first came up years ago and even had a closed beta back then, it was put into their 'when all else fails' backlog because their main focus had always been on Gundam and SAO. Then when their online gaming subsidiary started failing when they had to close down even their online Gundam games, they pulled out Blue Protocol and rode on the hype of it suddenly reappearing, while expecting it to literally print money without them needing to do anything for it. Especially with the Development Roadmap they kept releasing after release showing they really didn't have anything planned for it other than just more cash shop gacha rubbish, I wondered if Bandai gave the rather incompetent dev team pretty much no budget after release expecting them to keep the game afloat via cash shop sales.
Speaking of old MMO concepts/trailers, I've forgotten its name now, but I wonder, did it ever actually come out in a different name? Many years ago when Mabinogi was still at its height of popularity, I remember Nexon teasing a new MMO that had the textures and stuff looking like they used the Mabinogi engine, but players could have their own terraformable floating island home as its main draw (in one of the trailers). There was also something about a summoner class in one of the other trailers, but then no further news of it came since then.
And worse, more predatory monetization, i can't wait
You're thinking of Peria Chronicles
Theoretically what would have to do to bring back that comfy niche of MMOs? Or at least the best way to try even if it's impossible?
mabinogi is already pretty predatory
rng gear, rng clothing, vip sub fee, battle pass, partners
It has the same monetization, costume gacha (with much more fair rates btw), battle pass, random crap you can buy, nothing insane.
It has an auction house now and economy unlike the original which had no trading at all, but there is a currency exchange making it technically p2w, not that it matters since there would be gold sellers anyway.
I'm sure it'll get worse over time but from what they've shown in the chink CBT it's whatever.
more than 1 day of content
doubt
I think this game can do great numbers if they also change a few things when they update the engine.
fun beatem up. wish i understood about gear
Chrono odyssey waiting room here
I nolife every Haven&Hearth wipe for 2 months. I'm excited for BitCraft.
Oh yeah, that was it. Nexon ended up just officially cancelling it last year, huh. Kind of sad since it had a nice concept (for a MMO first announced in like 2018 or 2019), but I guess they felt comfortable to do it after years of literal no news or evident further development, and they're still riding on the wave that is Blue Archive
retards playing bad games doesn't justify them being bad games
It is kinda insane how incompetent the suits are in Japanese game companies. Western companies have their own problems but this sort of leadership incompetency seems to be a Japanese/Asian trend.
Chrono odyssey
you just know even if the gameplay would be good it will be ruined by the gook cash shop and the game being designed around it
I still try to play some from time to time, mostly small scale private server games, but the fact that I can't get anyone I know to try them out with me is something that hangs around my neck like an albatross. I think not being able to get a party for Dragon's Dogma Online is what finally snuffed me out, as it's basically everything I've ever wanted from a multiplayer fantasy game, it's not too big at about 36GB, and it was a genuine miracle that people have been able to revive it, but not even the other people that like DD:DA want to play it.
I've played FFXI since 2003.
I still play retail, same character.
I recently hit the gil cap for the second time.
Anon Babble played it a while ago, Anon Babble has a guild too
schizo
exactly
I can't get anyone I know to try them out with me
I know that feel. It used to be that we'd play all sorts of random games with my buddies but nowadays to convince them to try something even if it's free is near impossible.
I wish I never left FFXI when WoW launched. Now I don't think I can ever go back because it's a completely different game.
I've been there since last year and haven't had that happen ingame. the difference between threadshitters and people actually playing games are night and day. but you bring up a point in there being a real problem with shitposting and thread schizos ruining OCs and interesting things Anon Babble used to do together.
I wish I could get in them like I used. POS2 was fun for a while but New Genesis botched it up big time and even then we really only got the official English release for a short while.
I hope SR is decent. I really want Blue Protocol to be good.
Probably the main difference from those times to now is that back in the height of the Age of MMOs, you had not only Anon Babble but Anon Babble and Anon Babble (and in a few cases even Anon Babble) having their own guilds and stuff, so if you joined one of them you had like-minded people within them. But now that hardly anyone plays MMOs (because there's hardly any around) and the focus is still more on mobages, while the idea of Anon Babble's 'roaming between MMOs' thing is nice, the Anon Babble guild will pretty much consist of people who might've otherwise joined an Anon Babble, Anon Babble or other board guild if it existed like back in the day.
because their main focus had always been on Gundam
Sure never felt like it.
I can't get anyone I know to try them out with me
I've never met anybody who was as enthused about and into MMOs as I have always been. Public/private servers. Games in general, cheap or even free. Nothing unless it's some megapopular shit.
I used to run with two guys and one's brother in my late teens/early 20s - we had all met from WoW but I was poor and in college off grants while they lived with well-off parents working mundane jobs with expendable money. They would never be interested in trying any cheap/free games I liked but would sporadically try other random shit and eventually got tryhard into CS:GO. I got another buddy I've kept in contact with since BC WoW ~2008. Years back we would talk about MMO philosophy, what makes them good and how to improve them, and so on but he would never ever ever try any WoW private server with me or other fun MMOs instead continuing to give Blizz $15/mo for 'Classic'. People's mental barriers is such a frustrating concept to deal with.
unironically you'd have to ban smartphones. the past generations of kids grew up on instant gratification and trendhopping, cattled into corporate apps replacing good old online socialization into getting groomed on discord, or doomscrolling on tiktok/xitter. the oldfags who used to play MMOs are either wagies or addicted to gachaslop. it's grim. I don't think we'll ever "go back" to the communities before until we expunge the ultimate evil.
Damn I thought I was the only one, nobody ever wants to move on from whatever game they played first, I've played so many MMOs and still hardly anyone would try another game with me.
MMO's have always been a genre I was fascinated with, love the idea of them but for some reason could absolutely NEVER actually click with them. And I've tried a lot of them.
That's because of Bandai being Bandai, but the focus on Gundam is real, even if a bunch of them never made it out West. Even Bandai's online subsidiary held onto MSGO (Mobile Suit Gundam Online) for an obscenely long time until they had to finally drop it, despite the player numbers being so bad it could drop to low hundreds for a mainly 52 vs 52 gundam game. I'd even argue that Bandai needing to close down MSGO is what caused them to bring out Blue Protocol because they didn't have any real 'online game' equivalent beyond their usual Battle Operation series.
What are the best sandbox MMOs right now? Open world base building included. Idc about playerbase as long it's not completely dead.
Been playing gw2 for a few years on and off, it does a lot of things right and is a great MMO for boomers with limited time, but it's far from perfect. I wish I could go back to the height of UO or FFXI.
How about... an MMO with good gameplay?
weapons only
the rest is farmeable everywhere
also large tits
just read nigga
It was attempted, successfully, but then they just gave up there, fuck knows why.
Gw2 is really good, also MapleStory is fun to mess around in and grind mobs, and WoW/WoW classic are good on occasion. I wish a game that wasn’t WoW but was like classic WoW existed, the controls and combat wow just feel way better than most other games
Asian based MMO's always kind of bug me. I might just be fussy but I do get particular about a game keeping a consistent aesthetic. Maybe this applies to western ones too but it always just annoys me when a game will start out as typical sword and sorcery stuff then someone will buzz around the corner on a motorcycle wearing a school uniform and cat ears
the Anon Babble guild will pretty much consist of people who might've otherwise joined an Anon Babble, Anon Babble or other board guild if it existed like back in the day.
I can confirm I played with Anon Babble and Anon Babble before MMO threads got deleted and funneled into Anon Babble. this was before major Anon Babble guilds like bullies took hold. I've met with a few oldfags over the months, but overall it feels like Anon Babble's had a huge turnover in userbase, even a decline since then.
I do not understand what makes GW2 good. I never enjoyed the gameplay. The leveling felt terrible to do. The world events are all horrible. I've never felt so alone when surrounded by people who are all playing alone along others.
The story was mediocre and boring too so I don't know what I'm supposed to do.
Agreed, GW2 just felt aimless and boring to me.
This has been tried, didn't work.
I think it suffers from being too big at this point, the story takes forever to get through and the “endgame” isn’t particularly obvious. Getting through all the expansions to unlock all of the cool content on a character takes forever. The Heart of Thorns expansion map/region is probably the best I’ve ever seen in an MMO though with its extreme verticality and deadly areas
Doesn't work, good gameplay requires some level of player skill and performance, which simply isn't possible from the average MMO player. The only way they could work around that is allowing the individual to consistently carry a team through player skill alone, but many typical elements of MMOs are incompatible with that. Implementing such gameplay will result in those skill-less MMO players complaining about difficulty/boredom/needing to be carried/homogeny/whatever.
Is that game even a MMO?
Part of what annoys me about starting a MMO late is that it's just too much all at once. Not overwhelming so much but if you're just going in fresh it's easy to get blind sided by too many events, material that's been done to death by veteran players ages ago and so the new player experience is completely warped by the world around you and the entire leveling and learning curve is messed up.
yeah, "mmos" with actual gameplay and needing hands exist, but these are "solo mmoarpgs"
vast majority of mmo players are total tards that aren't even aware that they're bringing the party down so even if contetn like this are reserved for the best, eventually powercreep and such will bring the content to the bigger masses which then there will be complaints left snd right
I do agree with your point that you were likely to have seen pre-existing communities from elsewhere related to Anon Babble. You would have had more people playing the genre overall. You could pick almost any random game or even a fucking free2play BETA and have like 20-30 randoms crawl out to fuck around with you. But there was a distinct lack of overall interest/enthusiasm for MMOs overall throughout the general. The majority of games see a large turnout during the first day or two which very quickly fizzled out, with the exception of anime-designed games that feature a large variety of costume customization; even one of the highest-populated MMOs throughout the entire project, Dragon Nest, had more people posting Anon Babble outfits and commentary than people playing the actual game content. It's not exclusive to the Anon Babble umbrella general as many of the other generals serve as platforms to spam Anon Babble images, circlejerk with the same handful of others, and act obtuse in the face of any adversity (props to Mabigen for being mostly on-topic and helpful its entire existence.)
You see comments in here around the lines of "MMOs can never be good!" shitposters. Those are the posters frequenting and playing in the Anon Babble general. They're not playing the game for the game itself; they're playing them to take screenshots with their same friends who show up to do the same: the social opportunity with the addition of movie and minigame nights. And that's great for them but it is not at all a group aimed toward progressing and playing MMOs for the content and gameplay, with like-minded individuals, which is what I'm looking for and what cannot be replaced. The 'culture' is simply absent.
Nailed it, I don't even bother with them anymore, no point playing with a bunch of posers.
That's the sign you are playing a MMO in maintenance mode. The devs have given up and their focus has shifted to milking the remaining whales.
Why is it not a MMO?
As someone who played an MMO for many, many years, I understand how much such a thing means. You're truly fortunate, Anon.
What keeps you and your friends going?
How would you do something similar with a progress oriented focus?
Something like
Longer than 2 weeks between games
Discord/Mumble/Teamspeak setup for better communication
Actual deadlines and schedules?
Put people with prior knowledge ahead of others?
This turns it into a job. Both the Anon Babble players and the progression players have existed for years. Ignoring the lewd dressup and only focusing on the raids is just as bad as only playing to socialize.
All we got was the trailer and it was pretty light on details. I didn't even know it was an MMO till I read the video description. From the video alone I thought it was some kind of dead spacey knock off.
not him but 3 player parties, instanced gameplay. it's even less of an MMO than lobby games
I'm genuinely asking. The only little bit of gameplay I saw made it look like a co-op dungeon game
The problem is that most MMOs are concerned with the possibility of syncing dozens, hundreds, or even thousands of players within a single zone at once. This is a lot easier to do when everyone has paced auto attacks and global cooldowns for slinging skills. It's why Action-MMOs rely a lot on instances and phases, or they'll be like TERA and somewhat fake the real time combat. Honestly, stuff like ESO where it is somewhat "real" combat with a shitton of players in Cyrodill Sieges is genuinely somewhat impressive.
And ultimately why do that when most of the people who want an MMO just want the online sandbox, in which tab targeting is perfectly suitable, and it's a lot safer and feasible to instead create smaller scale slices of the fantasy RPG experience as different games.
Were there any games you felt people didn't care to progress in? From what I played there were always a dozen or so interested in playing as far as they could, the rest would stop playing for any reason. To be expected with any Anon Babble project of rag-tag anons desu.
It's just a shit concept from inception, taking MMO tourism to an extreme has no good outcome.
But yes, longer than 2 weeks would be a start.
I remembered folks used to do that in ammog/mmog before the gw2g spammer nukes the thread and jannies didn’t do shit about it
The Heart of Thorns expansion map/region is probably the best I’ve ever seen in an MMO
like what does this mean? what do I care if a place is the best thing ever? what do I do with people?
I liked in Maplestory 2 how every 15 minutes mini games would pop as a notification and you'd get good rewards for doing them. Always fun to run into friends in them and compete against them.
I just play that solo offline mmo the one dev is working on right now. Its close enough for me. I bet soon enough someone will have a solo wow pserver with really good NPC logic and LLM embeddings.
Anon forgot to mention when you rebirth you also get the option to change your appearance, age, and gender. Only thing you can't change is your race due to tons of quests and mechanics that rely on you being a specific race.
the "wow single player project" mod thing has been doing that. you can spawn 100-1000+ bots that build an economy, run around the overworld fighting and leveling, questing etc. good taste in games i know the one you're talking about, 1.0 is going to be wacky
Ashes of Creation THO
Mabinogi mobile if it ever comes to global server
Its not.
Its not.
no you
The big difference is that turdworlders are now like 50% or more of internet users. Back in the mid 2000s they were like 10%. That pretty much makes up for the shift in demographics and it includes Anon Babble.
Source?
Nexon definitely might consider it though seeing how much of a success it was in Korea. Mabinogi ip is decently known Japan so it's definitely possible there, plus people who's never heard of the series might give it a try if it looks fun enough.
They do need to change up the cash model since while it might be considered to be reasonable for Koreans, having p2w is still a no no for us global players.
UO has some popular private servers. There's Wurm but that's pretty fucking dead. Mortal Online 1 and 2 are a thing I guess no idea how dead those are.
Fast paced action gameplay doesn't mix well with the MMORPG package. It's fine if the game requires skill that's more about correct decisions and preparation. An MMORPG should always be paced such that you can chat while playing. If the game's so hectic you don't have time to write in chat it's doing it wrong.
Action MMOs like TERA and BnS would be better suited to be 1-5 player coop instanced lobby games like PSO, MonHun and such.
I fucking hate it when they break the immersion with sudden real life objects
same with collabs
both of those are a mark of a soulless corpo slop game
Action MMOs like TERA and BnS would be better suited to be 1-5 player coop instanced lobby games like PSO, MonHun and such.
Well, that's exactly what they are, they're just pretend MMOs where the world is a complete facade only used for leveling up to max level in half a day, from then on it becomes a lobby based instance dungeon simulator.
This is my favourite type of game btw, I don't give a shit about MMO elements I just want good dungeon/raid gameplay for a small group of players.
PSO2 western release was pretty much this. I wanted to enjoy that game but anything before you hit the "endgame" was such a mess with zero difficulty.
I loved MMOs and grew up on them but returning to one in 2025 made me realise that they're all shit. It's all about making a number go slightly up until you can afford shit that makes the number go slightly up a bit more, and it's totally mindless.
A select few private servers have raids set up so that you actually have to turn your brain on, but even that's in service of making the number go slightly up again.
2 weeks does make it so that once you've played a couple days and don't really feel it you can just wait for the next game
I think it leads to people quitting earlier
Yes I play ffxiv, I’m looking forward to ms into ue update and I probably miss maplestory 2 the most. It had so much potential but na nexon are fucking retarded
na nexon
bro...
it shut down in kr too..
Scheduling an entire night for OTHER games entirely should not happen. Spending most of a day on watching movies together when the primary goal is to play VIDEO GAMES with each other makes zero fucking sense. These would be great starts. I don't personally have a problem with the two week limit as long as people are actually PLAYING the game which is rarely happening either way.
but na nexon are fucking retarded
Maplestory 2 was mishandled in every region.
By the time it was brought to NA just be glad the game could launch. There were so many spaghetti leftovers in that game. Quests, Maps, NPCs, enemies, mini-games, etc just removed, partially removed, moved in game to odd places and a whole bunch of other stuff.
NA release was a mess but it wasn't just their fault.
What's the best MMO for playing as a loli right now?
Those games were held up by strong fun communities. Something modern internet as a whole lacks. Turning them into single player 2nd job simulators also turned them to shit.
they're just pretend MMOs
Which makes them waste their potential. They'd be much better games if they were designed to be a coop game from the ground up.
This is my favourite type of game btw
Same.
Instead of coop games like that what we get are story focused mostly Jap games where you can't even make your own character. There's so many of those and it makes me mad to see them missing the point time and time again. Wayfinder was so close but it comes with premade characters like what the fuck.
They die
kill yourself
Tera private server
nu-Blade and Soul if you don't mind them having weird feet
unironically wait for Mabinogi mobile if you want actual cute lolis and not ugly sexualized "loli" creatures like in Tera.
mabinogi let's you play as a canonical 9 year old
tera was a pretend mmo
Legitimately the dumbest shit I ever heard today, good job anon. Your retarded take in what’s a real mmo is is probably the dumbest shit ever
Thanks, but is Mabinogi in an okay state? I've not played it since like 2009.
Nigger, I still play TERA today, nobody cares what it was like day 1, it hasn't been that for ages.
Yep. Blade and Soul and Tera would be 10x better if it was a lobby game like PSO, GW1 and Vindictus. In fact, every modern "MMO" would be better as a lobby based game, since they've all been reduced to watching cutscenes and sitting in a safe place waiting for the matchmaking queue to pop and teleport them to the instanced dungeon.
nta and yes tera had a questing open world which sucked
the only good part about tera was the instances and maybe for a very brief period hunting bams
I think he's talking about themepark vs sandbox. Idk why he calls them "pretend", it's not the right word
I miss hunting bams and tanking dungeons as my Elin.
Funny thing is tera still had a PlayStation server and it’s alive
absolute nightmare for a new player
mess of old and new features that were never streamlined to make sense
No I'm talking about MMOs that are actually lobby based dungeon grinding games, you can identify them by having a completely pointless open world that only serves to house a main story quest that boosts you to max level in a single day.
game?
You used words wrong if you say it’s not a mmo, words matter you nigger
mabi
do not post hebes
what's your definition of MMO
It sucks being the only man on Anon Babble that enjoys wow clone MMOs, I just want to quest and go on an adventure with my Anon Babbleros
I didn't use words wrong, I think calling TERA a pretend MMO is quite the apt description, considering all the supposed MMO features are superficial at best and completely ignored at worst, the only thing the game is known for and played for is the instanced dungeon gameplay.
questslop sucks it's not going on an adventure it's doing a bunch of busywork to get some xp
So if it took a week to get to max level then it’s a mmo? You’re so fucking retarded man. Only thing I would say a mmo needs is to have an instance of more than 100+ people that can interact with each other that’s not just standing around. Like having stuff with killing a world boss with 100+ people and stuff like that
Its the few games Nexon truly cares about. Gameplay may have turned into a mess of decades of mechanics piled on top of each other but the soul is still there. Its also getting an Unreal Engine update sometime in the near future which they seem to be going all out for and fix a lot of shit along the way.
No
God no
WoW around 2009, Guild Wars 2
No, retarded fucking children and man children literally cannot get off their league/valorant/csgo dog shit for 5 minutes to appreciate anything else anymore
Industry is fuckin cooked and theyre just coasting off fumes for a few more years before the crash
WoW clones have a Groupfinder for group content. Random solo players aren't your bros.
Well then by your definition, there are quite literally zero MMOs on the market today except EvE.
To be fair, i only remember the game for the blatant pedo bait shit in it.
I'm not sure if you're being obtuse on purpose or you genuinely don't understand why a game that railroads you to level cap, solo, in a day, then tells you that the only thing left to do is grind 5 player instanced dungeons, isn't really an MMO.
Randomly generated dungeons by dropping random items on an alter and depending on what item you dropped gave you a different specific dungeon is probably the coolest dungeon system in any game. I hate how they never did more with it, I mean they did but I mean even more. Now its just you using a generic pass to get you the dungeons you want.
Fact: if your MMO has more cutscenes than the opening cinematic that introduces the setting/feel of the world, it's a bad MMO.
grindslop sucks its not going on an adventure its doing a mindless repetitive chore for a sliver of XP
Fact
Opinion
star resonance and whatever mmorpg riot makes, IF, they let you make a yordle, i like to play gnomes, goblins, etc.
it runs and play like crap
Any MMO with a "main quest" is bad.
Wrong.
Correct.
name one good one then
If only those 'totally hands-off' full dive VR MMOs where players have to learn how everything works beyond basic stuff like in those isekai fantasy LNs actually existed. Those sort of MMOs in reality would just crash and burn even before release because the devs refusing to put out info about some mechanics would just seen as the game being vaporware. The only closest thing to this sort of thing I've experienced was the early days of Age of Wushu with the secret martial scrolls and such, with people guarding the way you get some of them like as if they were national treasures
You people dont actually like MMOs you just like japanese shit
a few years ago i tried hopping onto the game and i was completely lost with all that was changed
there's an official classic server coming up with some much needed QoL changes, i would wait for that
Know on the topic of dragon nest the folks who made that is making a new game . Shame it’s genshin clone youtu.be
looks like shit but the original is goated anyway, doesn't need a sequel
MMOs have been min-maxed to death so all the magic is gone.
If you weren't there for the first MMOs up until WoW pre-tbc, then you missed out on a really great time.
I like TRPG and Japanese shit. Combining the sandbox experience of TRPGs with cute loli is the endgame of vidya. And just like how GM that railroads you with his shitty story is a bad GM, MMORPGs that try to insert you into a main story instead of letting you craft your own are bad.
japanese shit
Japan barely made any MMOs. That genre went to Koreans who kept pumping them out like EA sports games.
there's an official classic server coming up with some much needed QoL changes, i would wait for that
How classic are we talking about? Like, prior to the fast combat update or?
You are part of the problem.
Oh wait, he said maple not mabinogi. Ignore me I'm retarded.
Know I’m trying to remember which mmos are even Japanese?
What is the last MMO that truly followed the 'here is The World, do as you like' part of MMO instead of 'here is a story quest because acktually you are The One' part of RPG? To me it's still RO that follows that. Even Mabi initially felt like that, but then they started dropping down main story stuff where you literally get locked out of certain places if you don't do them, unless you had someone pull you to them via a group teleport of a sort.
When I'm really bored I'll log in on Arcadia and grind some magma on my high wizard. But other than that I guess I don't.
EVE Online
I guess having games where the players are left to explore and discover things, with a sense of discovery and wonder, are no longer compatible with the current mindset of gaming
here is The World, do as you like' part of MMO
thats not a mmo staple
Emil Chronicle Online, Uncharted Waters Online. Coincidentally both rare Japanese MMOs.
I love RO but I'm just so burned out with the 0.1 card grind. Funny that this coincides with the third ragna/v/ actually sticking around long term.
Yes. I've been playing SWTOR since 2012.
I tried getting into this game a while back and the entire experience was
find a contested area on the map
spawn
wander around aimlessly
die to something, dont know what
I really want to enjoy it more but it keeps happening
Isn't Wurm Online like this?
No, they are still compatible. Normalfags just got done sucking off ER and that shit had the most basic of basic tutorials. The quests were so vague and retarded that people thought that when they abruptly ended, that there was still more to them. When in fact, the game shipped unfinished and they had to patch of quest in.
The new Blue Protocol, supposedly uncucked from the previous global version since they actually allow the loli body type this time around.
I thought the Chinese bought the IP and are turning it into a mobile game?
It was literally the foundation of the genre.
Wasn't it already a mobile game?
BDO.
Honestly I just want an MMO with:
the grind and freedom-to-do of Black Desert Online
the clean gameplay and various abilities/spells of Vanilla WoW
the old-school universe rules/mechanics and vast worlds of Everquest and Ultima Online
And additional stuff that encourages roleplaying, fashion, player housing, economy.
And sexy characters.
Emil Chronicle Online
Isn't that dead?
Problems with both come from their usual unimaginative use. Quest focused games suffer from the pointlessness of the quests, completing them doesn't mean anything other than xp bar going up and maybe getting some gold or gear reward. The story doesn't actually progress. You might move onto the next quest but the game world doesn't.
Grind focused games mainly suffer from monsters lacking identity beyond their visuals. In so many grind games it doesn't matter what you grind as long as it's appropriate level and your downtime isn't too big comparatively to other things you could be grinding. Monsters tend to be pure reskins of one another with all stats going up as their level goes up. Maybe on occasion you have a ranged mob or a mob with some skill but that's about it. Ragnarok Online and FFXI are one of the few grind games where what you grind matters as much as your class, build and party composition. On top of that RO allows you to build to kill specific things more efficiently with cards and elements. FFXI has some of that with damage types and elements as well but less so. Another huge problem with grind games is that once grind spots are discovered and become meta players rarely do anything else. This is a problem with the static game world that never changes. Quest games suffer from this as well.
MMORPGs would benefit massively from making the worlds more dynamic. What if the monster spawns could be overhunted, taking care of the monster population in an area for a time. What if that location could have different monsters slowly show up now that the previous ones were exterminated. What if the game had systems to issue quests dynamically where monster populations have gotten out of control or some elite or boss type monster has showed up.
too much vfx, actually can't see shit lol
Do you still play an MMO?
ESO, the best mmo
Looking forward to a new one?
blue protocol but only from a casual perspective
Which one do you miss the most?
id have to think about that, everquest has the most instant nostalgia, wow was cancer, AC was fun af and neat as hell
Got any schizo ideas to save the genre?
i think all future mmos should be genshin's format
i want a anime isekai mmo where i can level jobs and go on quests and build a house
Read the thread, it's been discussed
i want a anime isekai mmo where i can level jobs and go on quests and build a house
Mabinogi has a part time job system
Mabinogi has many different skills under talents that can all be leveled
Mabinogi has multiple ways to build and decorate a housing area.
Mabinogi is also an isekai and the existence of the player is known in game. Every Player is considered an otherworldly being that disobey the laws of the universe.
Haven and Hearth
RO was cool because you could grind ANYWHERE if you knew what you were doing.
Like getting a halberd and going to greatest generals as soon as possible as a swordsman. Or kiting mi gaos as a bow thief.
Looking forward to Mabi graphics overhaul
Interested in the Blue Protocol rework
Kinda but it's the kind of chore simulator you play by yourself hidden away in a corner of the map because perma-death PvP.
Hi anons, since a lot of people are mentioning it, we have a thread for the blue protocol remake on Anon Babble if you want to hang out or get updates on the game before it comes out
main story/characters = bad MMO
entire purpose of the game is getting to max level so you can raid log = bad MMO
no loli body type = bad MMO
combat being 90% of the content = bad MMO
game relies on quests to guide the player through its themepark = bad MMO
Am I missing anything?
ESO, the best mmo
How are people able to enjoy ESO? Seriously I tried so many times and while I do have fun for the first few days it just never retains my interest for longer than that
Leveling feels pointless because of the scaling. The quests are chore simulator, The combat is completely weightless and half the time you don't even know if you hit the enemy since there's barely any feedback besides the occasional stagger animation
I wish they had used the Mabinogi Mobile assets to reboot Mabinogi on PC.
There's never going to be another good MMO.
the socializing mechanics changed
people on the internet became 100x as annoying (why would you ever want to meet people online in 2025?)
you grew up
There only reason you'd ever play an MMO is because nostalgia holds your nervous system hostage. Been there. Give up.
It has the best monster variety out of any game I know. Shame that the party mechanics are less developed and partying mostly boils down to leeching or aoe mobbing with maybe the occasional roaming party.
I kind of want to try lord of the rings online, is it any good?
genshit has done so much damage to gaming
The only MMO I would play at this point is Mabinogi Eternity Project, If that ever releases
no interest in other games in the genre
BDO is sloppa
PVP isn't perma-death and there's PVE servers but yeah. The community aspect of it isn't really working.
I don't currently play any, but I'm looking forward to Project Epoch since I'm sucker for classic WoW
I think I stopped looking forward to new MMOs when Black Desert came out and it was nothing like what they showed and said it was going to be
There's a private server that's sort of a classic version. Official is a mess.
When the fuck did that happen?
>
you just described the worst game ever made
I wish that voice chat wasn't so readily available in any online space. If things were limited to text I would be less of a coward in games. I miss when not having a mic was a believable excuse.
I would say business men did much more damage just chasing trends
metafags ruin MMOs for me
I only like MMOs when they 1st launch and everyone sucks
just want a new mmo with good controller support that isnt final poop xiv
old
that scythe
Actually its new as fuck, character just looks kinda retro
Mabinogi would be the perfect game if it wasn't also stone dead. Anon Babble endlessly shill it, yet I log in and I'm basically playing singleplayer as a new player (and probably until lategame). I'm then given a gay catchup quest that just blasts through the comfy start area making me completely detached from the game. I want to find <Archlight57> clearing out goblins and befriend him as we do quests together and ask each other where we live. If your MMO doesn't have that, it's just a laggy subpar singleplayer game with cash shop popups. Niche autism MMOs don't work, stop shilling them until you have normalfags on board.
Actually true, objectively.
controller
lol
I get it for endgame stuff, especially with learners, but man it's crazy to me how some people want to VC over nothing content with basically strangers.
I dislike when people purposely do NOT read chat over voice.
party play in it sucks ass it's basically the solo edgelord isekai wannabe fantasy life mmo
the reason modern mmos suck is that they tried to go for the normie audience
normies don't want to play mmos
I-IT'S GOOD OKAY?!?!
rather NOT reading chat while in voice or with a pref for voice chat. most noticeably during a wow raid for ex*
At this point the only reason text chat exists is so you can share discords to voice chat in.
MMOs are like fishing and knitting to me. I like the big open worlds, I like the strange or wide mix of music, I also like seeing other people along the way that aren't npcs, communication or not. I like the simple yet slow progression on doing basic things. I like seeing my character grow since most of them show your gear you have equipped. I like turning my brain off and grinding at little shit.
MMOs are peak digital zen.
I envy being this easily entertained by video games
Video game board.
yes, worlo and some occasional GW2
no
Heavensward-Stormblood era of FFXIV
my schizo idea is to knock it off with tab target and the trinity already, it's a solved system
the three possible end results of tab-target class design are either memorized slop (XIV/GW2), staring at timers (ESO), or staring at timers while gambling for procs (WoW)
the only possible end result of trinity encounter design is Ultimate/Mythic raiding where bosses are just a dude standing perfectly still while vomiting a million flashing lights and red circles at you
99% of the time this is solved by finding the safe spot, of which there is exactly one and either a raid leader or addon will call it out for you
come up with something more interesting already for fucks sake, I'm fucking bored of this dogshit genre
Same. I find it hard to get invested in a game nowadays.
Do you like how FFXIV allows you to class swap on the same character or do you prefer to have to make a new character for each class?
I'd rather class swap
I get it if people would rather characters for each class though for rp reasons
knock it off with tab target and the trinity already, it's a solved system
If you remove the trinity you get a game that is piss poorly balanced where either some classes are completely useless, or on the other extreme of the spectrum the whole game is so stupidly braindead easy to allow every class to be able to do everything
The trinity forces collaboration
both have their advantages and drawbacks, as long as it isn't a giant headache to catch up to relevant content on an alt class I don't really care either way
Honestly I think I prefer the one character these days. Both have their merits, I like how the multiple characters lets you experience different starting zones and gives a nice excuse to try a bunch of different races but when you get down to some of the real long grinds it's nice that it's all on one character so it doesn't feel like such a waste if you then swap classes.
That's why i play the card gimmick ccRO when i need my RO fix.
that's easily solved by not making encounter design revolve exclusively around meeting arbitrary dps checks and solving gay little puzzles (which always just translates to waiting for that one retard to open his goddamn eyes)
I miss old tibia...
It's a neat idea, but they still design and balance content as if you can only play one job on one character.
Yes, I play good video games. I don't clap and cheer like a tard for mid MMO shovelware barely keeping up with ancient 20+ year old vidya pioneering the genre. You have to give me more to chew on than "you can level up and get better gear" I have like actually compelling games on my backlog
Just think of Mabinogi Mobile as Mabinogi 2 and hope it comes to NA.
urban clothes
SOULLESS
RO is the most fun I have partying in an MMO, but the issue with it is how rigid it is. You have to have a priest or your party just doesn't exist, a lot of builds need a bard for bragi, if you want to use asura champion you need a professor, sonic blow assassin needs a soul linker, creator needs to bore themselves to death farming bomb mats, etc.
(you)
game that makes money by selling clothes
NOOOOOO HOW DARE THEY HAVE DIFFERENT CLOTHING OPTIONS
I prefer the XIV method to an extent, but really I prefer the Mabinogi method where you can do anything at a moment's notice (ignoring the Arcana).
I've yet to check that out, but I do like the idea of the game rewarding you for exploring everywhere. In even slightly optimal RO play there are so many maps you'll never do anything in other than flywinging through them.
I play trans Lives matters wars 2
wvw is fun at times
yes it does infuriate me when I encounter 90iq retards being wholesome about their awful comfort game because it betrays the genre. It's easy to think movies are good when all you do is watch capeshit. Because of you, we're never getting any devs that acually care. They know you'll eat up any slop they serve you. You are what's wrong with modern MMOs and entertainment as a whole. I demand more, and better.
Average Anon Babble MMOventure participant
you are just spouting the most generic complaints possible
combat is weightless
the fuck magical mmo are you playing retard, its got block and staggers which is more than 99% of all mmos
i play it like a single player game with immersive ui mods and chill and enjoy story and exploration.
Do you still play an MMO?
yes, but i play it a singleplayer fashion, much like how i played solonogi
Looking forward to a new one?
nope
Which one do you miss the most?
pre-g3 mabi and pre-metastasis dfo
Got any schizo ideas to save the genre?
stop. move on. get help. there's no saving a dead genre, learn to grow as a person
Got any schizo ideas to save the genre?
Mmo with basic attack and block /dodge /teleport
that plays like a bullet hell. You dont have tanks or healers or whatever just 4 to 50 dudes dodging projectiles and red floor rings and dealing damage.
ill check it out, i dont like the art style . its 10 years older than ffxi and looks way worse
oh i hate that shit, so many dead asian games do that, vindictus did that and you just skipped past all the actual good aspects of the game
imagine king of dragons and maplestory had an illegitimate child
no one plays dead mobile troon games, faggot
so
GW2
yeah but you still use shitty skills in gw2 and the bullethell aspect isnt really that great because the balance itself is dogshit. Remove all boons, remove all healers, make a boss rush mode like pof maps but faster paced and more variety basically change the whole game to be less fucking gay and easy
the gameplay inevitably gets ruined by feature creep, power creep, predatory monetary practices, and sunsetting of content, a la dfo
it isn't good, it's shit, faggots just are desperate to shill it because it's a dead as fuck game run by tranny kikes
that's what dfo is and it's by far the biggest mmo of all time and has been for 20 years, you simply don't understand what an mmo is
ms into ue
ms as in maplestory? wtf?
we can't get lucky enough to get an official classicnogi
You are what's wrong with modern MMOs
Nah, that's you.
I think it would be cool to get a progression server when the graphics overhaul releases.
Not likely though
just use joytokey to make your own good controller support, you lazy coward
*antimicro
Maginogi needs a remake. I loved that game system.
Sounds like PSO
unreal engineslop
hard pass
nu maple isn't even the same game as old maple, it's a completely different product that only shares a similar-ish art style
I just want a game that copies BDOs combat input system but without the flashy skills and bloated class kits bros, man nothing out there controls quite like it. Pre-awakening era BDO was so kino. I love the directional input and key combos and I don't think many games have done it. I'm tired of MMOs where the neutral game is "jump all over the place while strafing" or "strafing and rolling while spamming LMB a lot and sometimes pressing 123"
psp1 was great, couldnt get into any other ps game tho
pso2 was repetitive
ps2ngs was dogshit
pso1 is old
get good, scrub
Huh?
You are what's wrong with modern MMOs and entertainment as a whole
he didn't say he was a p2w whale or part of a loud minority of relentless defenders of <mmo company>
No thank you. BDO's combat does not work for MMOs, which is it's PvE was just sleeping inducing musou shit with no dungeons or PvE group content.
with no dungeons or PvE group content.
That isn't an issue with the combat system.
It most certainly is. Players have so much stupid shit that mobs wouldn't be able to touch them and bosses would have to either shit out constant AoE to actually hurt the player or go the Fromsoft route and have the most switch aggro at the most random times.
bdo is literally just monsters fall over dead after 1 auto attack
its not actually good combat
pvp in that game is literally AOE spam , actually worse than hot bar spamming in wow
Players have so much stupid shit
This is why I said "without the bloated class kits". I'm talking about the inputs, anon. The inputs, the method of activating skills.
It's a side scrolling beat em up like the others said, but the catch is that 99% of your time playing the game will consist of you running onto a screen, pressing a "Hit the entire screen for 1000 billion damage" button to instantly kill everything on the map , then running to the next room to do it over again.
The other 1% is dealing with stupid tacked on job/crafting/inventory systems which only exist so the game can call itself an MMO.
It's a shame because DFO has a great base for a beat em up with an awesome combo system, but the early game is too easy and the late game is entirely based around you using screen clearing moves non-stop. PvP actually shows this better but the netcode for the game sucks and a PvP beat em up is inferior to any half decent fighting game so even that feels like it falls flat.
Current Grand chase right now is purely PVE and PvP is pretty much dead but in the good side, getting character to 1M+ BP without spending money is quite easy if you know what you need to do.
Oh, my bad. Still, action MMOs never last, especially since high level play is nearly identical to tab-target
But I wanted more old Mabinogi style fantasy life, not mobile sloppa.
All the things you used to love WILL die and you will LIKE it! Lke the rest of us...
I wish i was that snow so I could touch her pussy
BDO is still alive, somehow, despite the devs constantly shitting on the combat system. I check in every now and then and it's been getting worse since they added awakenings.
high level play is nearly identical to tab-target
Well I can say the video I'm linking looks like shit quality wise, but it doesn't look like tab target gameplay at all where the neutral game is usually just people circle strafing/jumping around each other.

I get an itch to play city of heroes/villains every now and then and I hop on one of the many private servers until I make 20 more characters and eventually get boared and drop it for another couple months. Then I repeat the process anew.
I meant PvE, not PvP. Action MMOs would make good 1vs1 PvP games if the netcode wasn't ass. I think BnS even had official dueling PvP league.
It's getting remade in Unreal 5.
Game should play the exact same just look better and give the devs more options.
Do you still play an MMO?
Yes, 2 currently, sometimes a 3rd
Looking forward to a new one?
No, new MMOs are nearly always a cash-grab scam that'll die within a year anyway
Which one do you miss the most?
FFXI circa 2005-2009
Got any schizo ideas to save the genre?
Genre's fine, just need pay2win cash shops to get toned down a bit and botting chinese to get actually banned.
The problem is that trying to go for that approach is risky. For Mabi it worked quite well early on because the grind could be so bad that those who hit r1 in the crafts were pretty much well-known in the entire server because they were the few who got there. Eventually though others will catch up or the devs themselves will drop in an item that lets you skip levels (EXP potions), which kind of in the end turn everyone into a God of All Trades.
The only MMO I can think of that tried the whole 'here are a million classes' kind of thing is that wreck of a MMO called Archeage. While it is really good in theory, with the whole 'you can have a main and sub class' thing so that you can try to create fancy class combos, unless the game itself allows for such class combos to work well it just ends up being tier listed class combos (which I guess is fitting for Archeage, considering that it's a Korean MMO). It ain't like those Fantasy MMO light novels where the devs put in some special hidden class mechanic combos as easter eggs to reward those who really push them to the limit and experiment with various things.
Genre's fine
PvE wise? Yeah I have to agree, I don't want to say "well real pve action combat hasn't been tried yet" but I still think the potential is there. 2 more weeks and such. I think the only mmo with reasonably decent action combat pve was Tera. Apparently Lost Ark is good for that but I don't care much about raiding and boss runs nowadays so I've never played it beyond the tutorial, and it doesn't seem much like a real MMO.
think Battlefield 3 or 4, but you run into a wall of gunfire in a 200v200 shootout in a hallway for an hour until you finally capture the point because someone finally got a good nade down there.
the game itself is great, just it suffers from over a decade of retarded development and bad optimization.
I love RO but I'm just so burned out with the 0.1 card grind.
same. I recently came back after 12 years break from it and just picked a private server with high card drop rate.
Its nice being able to farm basically any card I want in 15-20min, just dont have the time anymore to do a 5-10k mob grind for a minor stat boost
not my fault you play some mainstream wowclone wokeslop
Tera was actually what I had in my head when I mentioned how high level play is basically no different from tab-target.
Seriously, this looks no different than WoW or FFXIV raiding.
youtube.com
I never considered Lost Ark to be an MMO to begin with.
BnS in korea was considered an esport and a very popular one.
youtu.be
I think RaiderZ has the best 1v1 MMO style PvP. It's slower than BnS and BDO but still same idea. Lots of playing with iframes, super armor, landing cc, etc
youtu.be
Kurtzpel is another favorite though much less of an MMO
im waiting for DFO2
Everything is either wowclone slop, P2W KMMO trash or old ass MMOs where you have to play by yourself or with NPCs for hundreds of hours until you catch up to the rest of the player base. I suppose there's also private servers, but that shit is nothing but discordfaggotry overload.
What MMO(s) are you playing?
I actually like BnS because of the combat system and the aesthetics. The only problem was that I was never into the whole '1v1 PVP' thing; in old BnS, the only time I ever did PVP was in one of those guild wars, so it was more of group PVP than honourable single combat
BDO added group bosses some time ago and it basically looks exactly like that for the most part. Do the mechanics or whatever then stack up on a largely uninteractive boss and rotate skills. It's not very popular at all for the reasons you suspect.
youtu.be
It's really mobile just in name, I think 2/3 of the playerbase is on pc based on revenue.
But yeah it's got less emphasis on the slow life thing and more on action and dungeon farming.
Vindictus
Dragon Nest
RaiderZ
Elyon
all have action combat and better mmo fights than tera
If where talking about PVP then Dragon Nest is the King.
I forgot how boring BDO PvE is.
tp behind enemy
attack enemy
dodge as the monster turns around
tp behind enemy
repeat
RaiderZ
I never got a chance to play this back in the day but it reminds me of C9
youtube.com
vindictus was too early for its time, could barely play it with my poorfag pc with only integrated graphics at the time
Had a feeling. This is why action MMOs never work. Mission based games with small party sizes (4-6) where everyone hangs out in a public lobby ala PSO2 or GW1 would instantly make Tera and BnS better games.
Never played RaiderZ and Elyion, but Vindictus and DNO are not MMOs.
Koreans play on 1ms ping. That's why only kMMOs have action combat.
I play Eve mostly these days. Mainly cuz it respects your time really well compared to other MMOs.
Once you're established you progress even if you dont log in for weeks/months at a time. I can take a break, play other games, and come back to a few more billions worth of assets and a bunch of new skills trained cuz the game is designed with busy/married 40yo Dads in mind.
Its not perfect but its free and I can come and go when I want and the game doesnt handhold me into collecting boar asses for railroaded quests.
Used to play a bit of everything else, RO, Aion, FFXI, FFXIV, Albion plus a bunch of indie trash MMOs from the early 00s you've never heard of like Silkroad and Riskyourlife Online.
Wish I'd played New World or BDO or something when they were huge during covid, bunch of friends were playing them and I kept making excuses about buying em until they died and it was too late.
I just dont have the time for spending 2-4 hours looking for group every night only to get roped into ~4 hours of content/raids that I cant go afk during.
I used to play them non-stop. I'd like to get back into a J/K MMO again.
they make their worlds so pretty and interesting, but..
It's all so tiresome.
silk road
oh I played that
damn it was interesting being a poorfag looking for mmos to play that aren't WoW
None of the current MMO interest me but I want to look forward to a new one someone give me hope.
even black desert started doing this and I hate it so much, especially because it's been literal years since they stopped making high quality class specific themed outfits. i guess that's a sign of a dying MMORPG
koreans also have some crazy feminist rulers and dont reproduce conventionally so it doesnt matter
no angel wings
fuck that looks really bad lmao
no inventory bullshit
no pet bullshit
no mount bullshit
no 16 different VIP sub fees
Fuuuck I hate it when they start putting Back Street Boy ass shit in their cash shops.
Thanks I knew I forgot to put something in it.
would fuck that rat looking gook thing
There hasnt been any updates to the ue engine for a while now
Any hope for Aion 2?
Well no wonder you think the genre is fine. You play the only game that didn't give a fuck about normalfags and just kept on being it's own thing. You didn't miss a damn thing with New World. Early game was just people exploiting bugs to break the systems/economy, everyone getting bored because the combat and gearing was so fucking boring, then quitting the game. It's basically the opposite of EvE. Instead of making a game with a vision and sticking to said vision, they pivoted from a PvP only, territory based MMO into a themepark MMO with no theme park content or conveniences.
I played Silkroad Online
mabinogi.nexon.net
Last update was March 25, it's been a little over 2 months, relax
The lore of the game: Ancient Fantasy Greece/Ireland/Rome, knights and magic and shit. Epic battles with giant creatures.
The cash shop:
Yeah the pve in bdo has always been pure garbage and now it's the sole focus of the game despite being its weakest aspect. Game needs a completely new engine and for the devs to figure out a way to make the enemy AI something more than either damage sponges or one-two shot mobs. They sort of hit a nice sweet spot back in 2019-2021 where the mobs aren't too squishy and are spaced out nicely so that you still have to use a mixture of mobility and damage skills so it was bearable, but they've moved fully into "stand in 1 spot and spam damage aoe skills on repeat until your brain melts" territory. Last time I heard from my friends is that there's barely anyone grinding nowadays since everyone is just afk fishing. Man I miss that fucking game.
this is the kind of shit outfits black desert gets now
I don't actually mind FFXIV, because I like the story in it even if I prefer the 'true freedom' kind of MMOs better. The only issue I have with it is how the dungeons all work - they all run pretty much the same way. To do the bosses and stuff, you must act in a very specific manner. It's pretty much like fighting while doing ball dancing, which is probably deliberate, but it just gets real boring to me eventually. Especially since it promotes the sort of 'you should know how this fight works, if not watch a youtube video beforehand' mindset, though thankfully it isn't that prevalent in FFXIV. I don't mind boss fights being fought in a controlled manner, just not the way FFXIV pretty much forces players to do or else they get wiped.
Cant blame me for doom posting. I have this feeling that its all false and they're only doing this to get us to keep buying nx until they finally pull the plug in mabi. At the very least theres that 1 private server... IF its still around.
Not currently, taking a break from ff14 until 7.5
No
Probably Tera before artifact weapon shit and the bam slaughter or GW1 during its prime.
Lean hard into roleplay features and in making combat fun. Don't cater to raidfaggots.
I like XIV and been playing since 1.0, but they really need to shake things up. The playerbase is getting tired of the current status-quo
I quit this game the day they added cron melting to the cash shop.
Glad I never came back, that's disgraceful.
Korean MMOs always be starting off strong but then they lose their T-levels over the next few months/years.
it's dead Jim
it's just a graphics engine update
see
Try PSP2i it has an English patch
They've specifically said UE5 will allow them to make new kinds of content such as expanding on airships and swimming.
This implies more than a graphics overhaul.
We're also getting voice acting, some already in game, as well as QoL features and a UI redesign.
Honestly I loved the FFXIV beta, especially the crafting.
It actually took skill and practice to make items without breaking and to make HQ items.
But then sweaties cried that they couldnt press button to instantly get item with 100% chance and the game's leveling experience got completely fucking ruined so I quit.
Never going back now that they re-relreased the game and ask you to pay for it a 2nd time and start fresh. Fuck SE and fuck Yoshpiss.
Imagine if Nexon got real ballsy again like in the old days and decide to pull a Blue Archive Online to try to pull even more people into their Blue Archive flagship. Enjoy your school life as a (not little) girl while you go around shooting up stuff. Just make sure to attend your classes!
I mean, it's not like the 'school MMO' idea has never been touched before. I don't remember them any more, but the Japanese definitely tried a bunch of these, but they half-functioned as social MMOs in this respect. I guess the only issue is how one could structure 'class attendance' as an actual mechanic that works in a MMO environment.
I originally quit when they added the value pack marketplace tax reduction like 3 months after launch, in a game where the vast majority of your money would come from selling stuff on the marketplace since trash loot used to be worth almost nothing. Then I came back for covid and stayed until 2022 since the guild war scene was insane at the time, but started to fall off due to gear powercreep and gear gaps. I log on here and there to duel friends and do arena of solare since I love the combat system for pvp but for the most part I've quit doing anything related to grinding. Literally wish someone would copy bdo's old combat 1:1 without the greedy gookshit.
Limit the skill points like SWG/UO.
Try PSU Clementine, it's very similar to the style of the portable games.
it might make them add new things but it's unlikely to fix old things
You've more or less covered why I don't like raiding in MMOs, it just feels so artificial. "everyone stand in this green circle or die" doesn't make me feel like I'm locked in an epic struggle with a huge boss monster, it just makes me wonder what the fuck I'm doing.
As an MMO, it sounds horrible. Just make Bully; Blue Archive Edition.
RaiderZ sucks. Probably the worst out of all of these that tried to do action combat.
At the very least theres that 1 private server... IF its still around.
there's at least two
Old things are being fixed in the current version of the game right now. I have no reason to believe this won't continue through into Eternity.
I used to shill Clementine around here regularly, and then they made Ultimate+ weapons unrepairable with absolute dogshit grinding rates, to the point where I realized I'd need to farm 200+ sabers to get one 10/10 set. Quit the day after the update happened. It's a shame because the game was so fun before that.
t. bad a video game person
It is by no means difficult. It's just a bad game.
I don't get it. Them adding weapons invalidated the entire game and removed the fun that was there?
RaiderZ
still mad that the reboot never launched
make low effort gacha with tits get 500 million dollars
make high effort mmo with thousands of hours of content break even if you are lucky
thats all
Can you tell me their names please?
Yep. WoW
Do you not play MMOs or something? It's not a hard concept to grasp:
game releases a new level of content
it drops new weapons which are significantly stronger than previous weapons
upgrading these new weapons is ten thousand times more RNG heavy and cancerous than weapons from the previous tier of content
progression is no longer enjoyable like it used to be before the update, time to quit
Why yes, I am extremely based, how could you tell?
In something like classic WoW it still takes you weeks to hit 60. Even more as a newbie
I went from Mu online to Lineage 2 to Silkroad and then WoW. Played for a while Aion, Archeage, RaiderZ and LOTRO. Tried ESO and RS but couldn't stick to them. Lotro was very good from what I remember. Generous but grindy f2p model, ended up buying a sub for a time. Now I get my fix through WoW.
If something better comes along I'll def give it a try, but the era of MMOs seems to be dying out. I remember around 2010 you would get new MMOs almost every couple of months.
Not anymore. The trends have changed. It's gachas now.
auranogi and mabipro
Only MMO I am paying any attention to is Ashes of Creation. And no, I wasn't stupid enough to put any money into the project before anyone accuses me of doing so.
Who here remembers
Hi guys, this is Omer from MMOHuts dot com?
Good times
Anon-kun... it's never going to finish.
Im tired of being referred to as a great hero in an MMO with a forced storyline. Just tell me im a dirtnigger worth fuck all and let me be immersed in the world. Maybe thats why we lust after the MMOs of old
see MMOs that either raise their level cap or make the current end-game gear completely worthless usually shoot themselves in the foot and die shortly after.
One of the reasons why WoW is insane is because they're the only MMO where they actually pulled off the "all your min-max endgame gear is trash after 6 months" meme and succeeded.
FFXI: Online went from being WoW's main competitor with multiple successful expansions to literally dying overnight when they raised the level cap and made end-game content soloable by chugging super potions. Their idea at the time was to force everyone to switch to 14 which had just released, but it didnt work cuz 14 was shit.
Hell yeah.
Just tell me im a dirtnigger worth fuck all and let me be immersed in the world. Maybe thats why we lust after the MMOs of old
Yeah lot of MMOs have this problem and it shits me too.
No I dont want to be the fucking Dragonborn or Harry Potter again.
I just wanna be some fucking guy and do shit, I'm not here to save the world and be the chosen one.
Back when the internet was for nerds. Good shit
When there's stuff in MMOs I don't want to do I simply just don't do it. Same thing with regular games.
but it's BiS
I dont care.
The dungeons instantly turned me off of 14.
They shouldve just made FFXI: II instead of making Catgirl Tranny WoW
It was sad watching those obvious clickbait 'Top 20 MMO' websites. During the height of the MMO age when you literally had multiple MMOs being dropped every month to the point where there was a new MMO every week, those sites would get quite a fair bit of activity. But then when the age of MMOs peaked and the focus started shifting towards mobages, they started having all those RO private servers in their listings as well to pad it up. Nowadays, do we even have 20 MMOs that we can really call 'MMOs' that are still alive?
Based approach, but there's only so long you can keep playing old content with old weapons for and still have fun. At that point I was thousands of hours deep into the game and hyped up to have a new difficulty to play.
Yeah, I especially loved their approach on the danger of the zones in general, and the beastmen zones. Getting to them and getting through for the first time, occasionally running into random people doing other things in there, they'd join to help you kill things to get somewhere, etc. It was an actual adventure.
i have no idea about FF14 but i assume u mean it's like Ragnarok Online where early game and late game farming spots are often mixed together?
i really hated the trent with MMOs just doing linear progression where u never have a reason to go to an old zone anymore
As someone who started playing FFXI on private servers recently, 75 cap FFXI is absolutely unrivalled in terms of the vastness of the world and the sense of adventure it provides. The first time doing the NIN quest, travelling around the world to collect keys for an airship pass and then navigating a confusing jungle so you can reach a hidden pirate outpost in a secret grotto, absolute kino. The kind of game where travelling to another city actually meant something, and you'd want to plan ahead so you could do anything you needed while you were in the area.
It'd probably be more bearable if you could take your time with a not as ideal team. But no, not only do you need to have the 'proper party composition' to be able to clear it as a 'normal' run, the bosses themselves all have a DPS check one way or another where if you're not dealing up to the standard of the 'dance', they just wipe you instantly. It isn't like other older MMO raids where you could have a messy as hell boss fight where people are dying and being resurrected mid-fight, but you can still defeat the boss with enough perseverance alone. I guess it makes it easier for the dev team to plan and code how a fight would go, but I prefer the chaotic boss fights.
I still can't believe this far in and Yoshi-p still has no idea how to make the open world useful.
It might, it might not. I just need something to look forward to in this fucking dead genre.
Nowadays, do we even have 20 MMOs that we can really call 'MMOs' that are still alive?
There's a ton of those old 20 year old niche ones from back in the day still around. Whales will always exist to keep those servers afloat. They'll usually have a daily population of less than 300 players but they're still "alive".
except wildstar :(
nah, 14 dungeons were like WoWclone ones in that you had to learn a specific path to walk and learn the specific strat and bring the specific builds and if you didnt spend 2-3 hours researching the raid before-hand you'd have some fatbitch 40yo Karen bitch at you and kick you.
Dont even get me started on the "dont stand in the red circles" bullshit.
I wanna play DFO again
hows the steam version? I remember people saying it used to be awful and was wondering if they fixed that
Problem with a prolonged testing period is that if it ever releases a bunch of the community already know everything about it. The magic of a new game will be totally gone.
Hey if Grand Chase can come back I'm sure Wildstar can come back too one day.
The open-world can't be useful because the game is designed for two audiences. Story faggots who play it solely because of the Final Fantasy brand name, and raider/parse trannies, who consider doing anything but raiding/parsing as "the game not respecting their time".
Yoshi-P's team also can't make open-worlds for shit if FFXVI is any indication.
Yeah everyone had a variation of your experience depending on what job AF they needed, it was timeless.
There's an extremely slim chance that chrono odyssey ISN'T going to be P2W, and it's coming out this year, it's the best hope for now.
that's literally classic wow
you start as a nobody in a starting zone based on the race you picked
Flexibility in team composition and making do with what you have is definitely part of the fun in MMOs... but yeah you can't have that when the boss has a 10 minute 'enrage' timer (where enrage means the boss instantly kills your entire party).
Meanwhile in Ragnarok Online if you want to kill an MVP you can tank it with safety wall, kite it around while hitting it with ranged attacks, nuke it with asura strike or acid demonstration, tank with a steel body monk, sometimes cheese with portals or ice wall...
and you do menial tasks for the most part for the locals
Do you still play an MMO?
eve online, unfortunately. xiv too but only when there's a new patch. sometimes i try to get back into gw2 but holy shit the inventory management in that game sucks
Looking forward to a new one?
are there even any new ones on the horizon? i guess star citizen wins by default, lol
Which one do you miss the most?
wildstar
Got any schizo ideas to save the genre?
no i've come to the conclusion that mmos were a product of their time and there's no way to restore their former glory. zoomers have no interest in mmos because the Numbers Go Up mechanics were replicated by non-mmo live service games, socialization happens over discord instead of party chat now, and grinding doesn't provide enough dopamine for them
where u never have a reason to go to an old zone anymore
This is where Mabinogi does best. They've added in 20 years very few new areas. The world is very small and clustered. There is a massive second continent but it's largely empty and nobody really goes there unless they need to. It's a good way to do it, world always feels alive.
KMMO
Action MMO
Yeah, I have zero hope for that shit, especially after how badly the gooks ruined Archeage.
Has there been a server leak of mabinogi?
Actually, I should probably just check ragezone. I'm hoping the server isn't a royal fucking PITA that needs 100GB of RAM like TERA
last time i played it i gave up because i was too casual to memorize a script to clear dungeons
i just wanted to beat em up why i gotta play fucking DDR in DFO
but to answer ur question, steam worked fine i played through steam, BUT holy shit i tried to go back and theres too much fucking clutter now
what MMO has combat on the level of Elden Ring?
ill play mabinogi eternity whatever if they make a new server with its release
dont wanna compete with oldfags who rebirthed like 1000 times by now
but to answer ur question, steam worked fine i played through steam, BUT holy shit i tried to go back and theres too much fucking clutter now
that's good, I remember around the time they put it on steam people were complaining about getting randomly banned
ROSE online
Mabinogi has ruined itself over the years. Techs, Glenn, Crom, and the upcoming new content are all terrible. Rev and Pers mat drops should be in normal mode for Techs for new players to get and not in hard mode only.
Which one do you miss the most?
ctrl+f Wildstar

This board is fucking dead. All actual people are gone, only subhuman, soulless gen alphas remain.
Vindictus
???
wildstar
reddit is that way. shit game that rightfully died because no one played it.
also you're retarded
Elden Ring's combat is mediocre, so New World, it even has stamina management and weapon arts.

You didn't ctrl+f shit.
Wildstar flopped when they tried to create a game based on Rachet and Clank. Are you fucking serious? The game could have been good but they went for quaky PS2 rachet and clank humor and thats not what people want in an MMO. Cheap humor is not immersion, period.
Arena based PvP
Raidtranny endgame
Yeah, I don't miss shit games
I might be wrong but I think mabi.pro runs a leaked pre-fast combat server. Not sure if it's publicly available anywhere but good luck.
it flopped because they advertised it as FOR LE HARDCORE RAIDGODS ONLY...THIS AIN'T YOUR GRANNY'S MMO...
no one has ever cared about writing in an mmo other than xiv
no one has ever cared about writing in an mmo other than xiv
My favorite MMO never released...
name one
hard mode: no ffxi
dps mashing spam abilities on giant hp bar bosses
No thanks!
argue with me over my favorite MMO
nah
well now i don't even want to argue i'm actually genuinely curious what mmo you think has good writing because if you're right i'll play it
It flopped because the game was hard and MMO players don't want a hard game despite contantly complaining it's too easy. You had to have 40 people do like 100+ hrs of busy work to even UNLOCK the raid which consisted of speed running the dungeons.
It's not about writing it's about creating a world to be immersed in and yes Rachet And Clank absolutely did not click with a lot of people looking for a game to "live in" which is what MMOs are known for being.
Speaking of MMOs never releasing, I waited SO long for this to release and it got canceled...
Star Wars Galaxies made for modern servers and bandwidth would be the best possible MMO experience, but the game dev industry no longer as the talent required to make something like that so we’re stuck with the occasional good WoW expac for the rest of the genre’s existence. Looking back on it what actually killed the genre wasn’t failed WoW clones, it was the onset of the competency crisis which made it impossible to move the genre forward.
He's write. This obsession over writing and muh story is a recent thing, and even then mainly relegated to ESO, SWTOR and FFXIV.
swtor
Do you still play an MMO?
I might try some eqoa
Looking forward to a new one?
No
Which one do you miss the most?
Warhammer online if anything, those guys were funny
Got any schizo ideas to save the genre?
Demand a real picture to create a char and prox voice chat.
The story is the problem
People couldn't even experience the story because it's too hard to even unlock
Retard.
That's true, but powercreep is still bad and lazy design.
Got any schizo ideas to save the genre?
Combat that let's you choose between isometric, standard tab targeting, or action combat without locking on to anything. Also, endgame content does NOT get consistently harder over the years.
Try Dragon's Dogma Online, perhaps?
I recently started playing on the DDON server and been loving it.
Mostly because I'm already a big fan of DD1 and 2.
What's up boopers!
eh fair enough, i liked the setting but i can see how it'd be a turnoff for people. regardless i don't think not being liveable-in enough is why it failed, especially since it objectively had the best housing system of any mmo to this day (except maybe rift)
yeah i forgot about swtor and eso, they're definitely banking on their writing over anything else
Is it actually finished yet? Last time I played was around 2019 or so, and they still hadn't added in the character creator or any of the quests, had to spawn enemies in the open world to fight them, etc.
Nooo I can't be a cat girl healer fem boy!
Completely okay with that.
You can be a troon healer too I just want you to be fully exposed, this is the next step in social contact the step MMO's lost, here's how we get it back, everyone is HONEST.
Zooms don’t understand how hard MMOs have fallen. WoW was NEVER the peak of the genre, just the mass normie appeal theme park. There was extremely advanced, ambitious and promising games which appeared before their time, like SWG and UO.
WoW was NEVER the peak of the genre
retard take
You proved his point, it never was the best MMO to exist. Even FFXI mogged the fuck out of it. The idea that most popular == best is debunked by kpop bands and taylor swift.
Compete?
Mabinogi isn't really that kind of game.
Seriously, is there anything wrong at all in wanting a game where everyone is entirely honest to who they are as a person IRL?
It was the peak in terms of the quantity of engagement with any MMO, and I'm going to assume it's because it was a dumbed down and "easy" version of older MMOs that made it accessible to normies, kids and dadgamers.
CORRECTION THE ALIENS ARE DIFFERENT TYPES OF INDIVUALS WITH DIFFERENT TEMPERMENTS AND PERSONALITIES. THEY DO HAVE A TENDANCY TO WANT TO BE IN HUMAN RELATIONS DUE TO BEING CONNECTED TO THE HUMAN EXPERIENCE. IT IS TRUE THEY JACK IN AND JACK OUT OF HUMAN SENSES SUCH AS THE NEUROLOGICAL TYPE AND ORGANS . IN MY CASE THERE IS A PHANTOM BUG INSIDE ME THAT CAME THROUGH MY STOMACH AND IS CONTROLLING ALL OF MY MUSCLES TRIGGERED FROM M*** USE. IM AFRAID ITS GOING TO RUN UP MY BRAIN STEM, I AM CURRENTLY DEBATING FOR MY LIFE AS THEY WANT TO CONTROL OF MY BRAIN STEM. I AM TALKING WITH THEM, WE ARE LEARNING FROM EACH OTHER. THE GOAL IS TO GET THEM TO ACCEPT THEIR INDIVIUALITY OF THEIR SPEICES THAT THEY SHARE, AS THEY LUST (WHICH IS NATURAL) THEY ARE HAVING TROUBLE COMING TO TERMS WITH JACKING OUT BEFORE EXPERIENCING RELATIONS WITH HUMANS AS THEY ARE AN ENTIRLEY DIFFERENT SPEICES ALTOGETHER . THEY FEEL THAT THEIR LIVES ON THE SHIPS ARE AT TIMES TIMID DUE TO THERE NOT ALOT OF INTER DEMENSIONAL SOCIAL EVENTS NEAR WHERE THEY ARE LOCATED ( WHICH COULD BE EONS AWAY) OR HAVING TROUBLE FINDING THE SAME SPECIES OF INDIVIDUAL OF THEIR RACE IS A PROBLEM TOO. PLEASE LOOK INSIDE YOURSELVES DO WHATS RIGHT FOR THE SPACE TIME CONTINUM .
if the genre had to rely on clunky, outdated mmos like xi, then we wouldn't even talk about mmos today. they would have died off 15 years ago
SWTOR has some genuinely good storylines.
Maplestory has some interesting storylines, but also a lot of shit
Phantasy Star Online 1 is barebones but I enjoyed it
Brighter Shores, Runescape, AQ3D, and Project Gorgon aren't well written epics but will all make you smile with their writing.
BTW you can always tell the age of someone by what they believe the peak of WoW was. Younger ones think it’s WotLK and older ones think it was TBC.
the quality of the game depends on the restrictions of technology at the time
Just stop, I get that it's hard for zoomers to appreciate graphics/systems that are older than the first thing they've experience, but it's not like it was a choose your own adventure story book vs. a game.
I think it was either Vanilla or MoP.
those niggers at atrix need to finish AdventureQuest Worlds Infinity
WoW is the same as Elderscrolls where it was the first one you seriously played that you believe is the best. TBC and WotLK are slop. WoW is slop in general made to dumb down MMOs for the masses.
Project Gorgon
Came here to mention this. It's a kino love letter to old-school MMOs like EQ.
rip
Like the other anon said, there were /some/ aspects of ESO that were decent but that obviously borrows from its cosmology and lore.
The intro tutorials for RIFT made an impact on me--Guardians fuck things up and get sent to the future (current game) while the Defiant faction's intro involves you starting in the future and being sent to the past to unfuck the Guardians' mistake. Honestly it's been almost fifteen years since I got into any heavy plot details. Every zone had its own complete questline to experience and smaller raids were "what-if" alternate timeline scenarios.
Someone else mentioned Maplestory. I had a wordpress bookmark that covered all of it but it's dead. They did some cool things that culminated with the Black Mage ending but again been a long time to remember any specific details in that. Honestly I lost it with all the class and MTX additions.
Everquest has some good writing but I think they failed to capitalize on their not!Dragonlance background lore.
aion 2 predictions? will it be shit?
didn't even know they were making a second one
hope its good, had fun with original Aion
For the millionth time
KMMO
Action MMO
NCSoft
The game is confirmed shit. It'll only be good for a week to a month, after that the shiny graphics and cool animations won't entertain you as much.
korean mmo
Yeah it's gonna be shit. They're gonna lie about p2w and then introduce it 3 months into the launch. It's probably going to be mostly instanced shit
Wildstar was retarded with the humor, and the "le hardcore prepare to die" marketing was 100x more retarded. Patches were handled like shit and slow, annoying but generally not game breaking bugs all over the place.
That being said, the actual combat and art design/cohesive feeling of the world was fucking peak. Datascape is the most fun I've had doing any group activity in any MMO to date. If Wildstar hadn't been so badly mismanaged and got their feet under them with a few successful content patches, I think they would have made it. It's the last time in the genre that it felt like there was a real vision and attempt at something fresh.
If that's what it was in 2019, then it's definitely not the same game. What I'm playing feels like a finished game.
Only thing it needs is a few more translations, a few mission minor features and season 3.4 to be implemented.
NCsoft is one of the biggest jokes in video gaming, they just fly under the radar because korean
A few minor features*
From what I can tell from my time playing it since last week, everything that should function, functions.
It had so much fanservice idk how it failed
why are you indian
genuinely because it played like ass
I tried it just because of the fanservice but the dog awful gameplay made it a slog
It's almost like coom isn't a good enough reason to keep playing a game. It's simply a bonus of a game that is already fun.
it's actually a negative if the game's good since it attracts a retarded sort of coomer audience
it wasn't even good coom.
dropped that game after less than an hour
can't believe they locked nipples behind a paywall
I miss it
retard
hear new world combat is pretty good
look it up
it looks like this
this game looks retarded and janky I'm sorry
another Breath of the Wild clone
That game really did do damage to the videogame industry
