It's simply not the greatest game of all time because half the levels are dogshit...

It's simply not the greatest game of all time because half the levels are dogshit. Only zoomer posers praise it as such because they've only played the first two hours, or most likely, watched clips on Youtube.

Used to like this game until Elon Musk praised it and had the cover art as his pfp for a time.
I despise that disgusting oligarch and his migatard pals.

Also do you realize how the threads praising it are inorganic as fuck? it's all swallow praise and nothing in depth

Insane that zoomers are old enough to post but lack the taste to enjoy Deus Ex, the greatest game ever made.

Kill everyone ITT except this guy

Deus Ex was the first poser game. People pretend they finished it because they think it means good taste. For every one person who played Liberty Island how many played Catacombs or Ocean Lab?

which is why shadow WON king of Anon Babble and not him btw

chadow.png - 640x578, 621.21K

This is exactly what is talking about.

it's the greatest gane ever!

Did you beat it?

no...

Why do you think it's the greatest game ever?

........a youtuber told me

But I did beat it, you fucking retard. That's why I have contempt for you.

You’d think the gamers still praising him and his puppet would do well to remember JC's line about due process
Or they do and just don’t care anymore.

game released in 2000

Zoomers

But I did beat it

Proof?

imagine determining your tastes based on the actions of others

But YOU do anon

The only level I'd classify as being dogshit are the Graveyard and maybe that one connecting vent level between the shipyard and the docks, both of which last about 5 minutes. There are a few mediocre and poor levels, like the nuke silo and gas station, but overall, the levels are fantastic. The Catacombs is okay, and Ocean Lab is one of my favorites, going deeper and further into a sprawling military base, and then even deeper still into some secret base/lab/UC(?) thing (I don't really remember exactly what happens at that part or why you're there or what you're doing, and frankly I don't care, I play DX today as I did when I was 8: as a trigger happy superhuman that makes funny remarks and gets funny messages from super villain bad guys, everything else past Hong Kong I forget out of principle). My all time favorite would be Vandenberg, I dream of those abandoned tunnels, not a soul in sight.

give a guy 400 years in prison because a fat bitch had a heart attack after mobbing his car

hold people as political prisoners without trial for years because they took selfies that embarrassed you

people vote you out in a landslide and use your own bullshit against you

NOOOOOOO LE DUE PROCESS!

lmao

give a guy 400 years in prison because a fat bitch had a heart attack after mobbing his car

He deserves it because fat women are a protected species and he didn't do his job. DIDN'T read the rest btw

There are a few mediocre and poor levels

Then it's not the greatest game of all time.

Do you know what ironic means or is another thing you just saw in a YouTube essay and decided to repeat?

That is supposing that the only factor is the game with the most good levels, and that there is some game with not only more good levels as a proportion of the entire game's length, but also of higher quality. Almost every moment in Deus Ex is spent exploring and playing through god tier levels, I severely doubt you can come up with a game that exceeds it just because Deus Ex rarely falters.

Beating Deus Ex hardly needs "proving". Even so, I'll humor you. Exactly how would I prove something where

numerous longplays exist

a comprehensive wiki exists

and have done for years

Where any chucklefuck, even you, can look up and make up a believable "yeah guys remember that part" spiel?
I get the feeling you just wanted a reply and no matter what it was would smugly say "You didn't beat it".

graveyard

Place LAMs, meet Dowd, enemies spawn, BOOM.

What brings it down from merely being a terrible level to a true dogshit level is that the "sky" is so low that you can bump your head on it. That's dogshit, dogshit built into the level.

Your Steam hours played, retard. Or your save files if on GOG. But you won't post either because your only experience with the gane is watching someone talk about it on YouTube lol.

he's a zoomer that didn't play it on a physical copy

LOLMAO

Why did they put those shitty five-minute levels into the game? Graveyard, Castle Clinton, Hong Kong MK12 base... what did that do besides bring the game down?

That's even better, post your disc :)

Deus Ex sucks after Hong Kong. Paris is mostly empty and doesn't serve much of a purpose because it's all setting up meeting an underdeveloped character that literally no one decided to side with their first playthrough.
Then you hit Vandenberg and the game starts backloading the story with thoroughly undercooked and rushed plot points until it ends.

deus ex widely considered a masterpiece by everyone on the planet

99% of game is kino

1% is shit

"ackually the game was never a masterpiece desu"

This must be the famed Anon Babble contrarianism I've heard so much about.

It's ironic because you or the OP is a zoomer faggot who has no opinions of their own and just parrots whatever they see on Anon Babble that day please kys

it's mid. that's it.

Hong Kong MK12 base

five minute level

dude what? i spent like an hour and a half in there. did you even explore it?

Castle Clinton

Not even its own level, just a level sub-section of Battery Park. God Tier level, easily one mf oy favorites, full of funny hobos, funny possibilities, that weird steamy vent section, the return to it that leads to the Mole People which is God Tier, one of my favorites, so it gets bonus points for in-game nostalgia.

Hong Kong MJ12 Base

God Tier, one of my favorites. The hostile feeling is immense, surrounded by secret goons on all sides, just free yet captured again. Weird tunnel sections with gas chambers that border on surreal, that GEP gun guy on the roof chilling with a 40, the cozy underground goon cave rooms. And then you escape, wondering what nefarious secret labs you're about to enter, only to enter into a totally normal Hong Kong marketplace (one of my favorite levels) with funny accented people and that bastard kid and the funny newspaper lady and the mysterious locked elevator to Versalife (one of my favorite levels).

it's not the greatest game of all time

okay, what is

uhhhhhhhhhhh

every time

Deus Ex has better level design than most games and you must be mentally deficient if you think otherwise.

Ocean Lab is pretty linear but Catacombs is a fine level. You are just retarded.

Catacombs.jpg - 395x395, 21.92K

"A few levels" is not one percent of the game. How long do you think it is, zoomie poser? It's not a Ubisoft game.

none of these are bad. I'd rather have a couple single map levels than not.

I beat the whole game multiple times with slightly less than 100 hours.
it's mid.

Did you beat it?

newfag thinks DEUS EX of all things is a game that "needs" low quality bait to have a successful thread on Anon Babble

NTA but I pirated Deus Ex two times.

Everett's basement is one of the best locations in the game.

Weird tunnel sections with gas chambers that border on surreal,

...are you quoting the fucking youtube essay you watched instead of playing the game? Fucking zoomers, man...

ding ding ding, please O zoomers with your profound taste, please, name a few better games that don't start with "Metal"

>Hong Kong MJ12 Base

Isn't that the one with the giant hand? It's like one of the most iconic levels in the game. What is that other anon smoking?

iso so ancient you can find it on Internet Archive

YOUR STEAM HOURS PLEASE? OR SURELY GOG???

eye rolling

Based, thanks for reminding me how much I love this game, especially the more obscure levels, even if you had to be retarded to make that happen.

Which levels? I can think of 1 underwhelming level.

Yes. No kill yourself.

How can something five minutes long bring a game down that's dozens of hours long?

Why do they bring the game down? Because they're short? Are you retarded?

No, it's the weird tiny one before you enter the market where you have to blow a missile through the wall.

how do unfinished filler levels bring a game down

But why do I even bother discussing a game you zoomies have not and will never play.

They're not unfinished you fucking retard they're just short

Ocean Labs is when the game starts to fall off a little bit.

I liked every level in Deus Ex, even the crypt one

The one that's not a level but a building?

Area 51 is one of the best levels tho.

The biggest problem with DX is NOT the level design, it's how many shitty, half-baked or outright broken mechanics are in the game that were never fixed.

Plasma rifle uses multiplayer damage values making it useless

wearable equipment are timed powerups that can't be turned off, making them and thus Environmental Training literally useless

you can hack literally everything in the game at Trained Computers

the laser mod renders accuracy mods and weapon skills redundant

there is absolutely no reason to ever use the EMP shield

skills lacks numerical descriptions making it impossible to know what any given skill upgrade actually does

you only get XP from objectives and exploration, meaning you are incentivized to roomba every single map looking for XP triggers

I could go on but you get the point.

the short levels are a microcosm of why the game is good. They're the game putting you in a scenario and telling you to solve it as you wish.
The MJ12 helipad rewards direct combat, stealth, exploration while being a narrative setpiece that gives you a moment interact with Jock on a great level than him ferrying you to new areas and tells the player that MJ12 has a presence in Hong Kong

GMDX fixes most of those
But having the game reward you with XP for completing actions would incentivize you to solve problems in a particular way which would be even worse

I thought the ballistic armors were like short buffs to get through tight spots. I used the armor to run past all the unatco in the radio tower for example. Camo armor is busted.
though I agree on the trained skill, that's kind of a meme.

Environmental Training

I don't mind this because levelling Environmental exponentially increases suit duration and effectiveness.
Ballistic armor jumps from from 25 seconds to 33 to 50 and to 1:40 and going from 50% protection to 87.5% and all suits stack with or compliment certain Augmentation.

mid

ye fr fr it's not bussin bruh its mid on god

you are incentivized to roomba every single map looking for XP triggers

I would do that regardless of experience gains.

significant others

remember playing the shit out of this game as a kid

decades later realize I spent hours stuck on Liberty Island and maybe an hour playing afterward

Interesting how people who've actually played the game have very specific nuanced things to say about it while the people blindly praising it to fit jn can't elaborate on any of their points, can't engage with any of the criticism, and run away when asked for proof they've even played it.

>you can hack literally everything in the game at Trained Computers

This one never made sense to me in the game. I guess the idea was you'd level it up if you want to have more time to read through corporate emails and stuff without having to back out and re-hack? But that seems questionable at best.

Ok, but since you can't turn them off they're only useful if you're blitzing through levels rather than exploring. If you explore, that time will be almost entirely wasted.

It's like they forgot this isn't an arena shooter and powerups make no fucking sense here.

Nobody is posting any intelligent criticism (apart from that post) they're just saying it's bad

I'll also point out, that DX's story is also total nonsense. It's interesting thematically and philosophically, but the actual plot makes no sense. It operates on the rule of cool and to contrive gameplay scenarios.

Thanks for reminding me to re-install. I was finally starting to get bored of Oblivion and needed something else to play.

mae-nitw-mae.gif - 373x498, 467.68K

Because the guy who wrote the dialogues was 160 IQ but the guy who wrote the story was 60 IQ.

Ok, but since you can't turn them off they're only useful if you're blitzing through levels

I don't really feel this way. Or at least, I've never felt like the timer was an issue. You use them as you need them, usually for a relatively short duration.
Ballistic Armor gets you through a fight or two or if you suddenly get cornered by a soldier or bot. I dunno. I see them more as insurance or location specific power-ups than something I feel like I need 100% of the time.

I like Revision.

The thing is, I hate GMDX's mini level additions. He's firmly against the Revision crew and their idea of making the levels more believable as actual places as opposed to being designed for gameplay purposes, but he couldn't help himself from tweaking the levels in ways I think are uneccessary. I would honestly rather play Revision, because at least it's something new to look at.

I'm gonna try Transcended. It appears to just be a giant bug fix/balance patch that doesn't add or delete anything but just modifies what's already in the game to function better.

you got anal'ed by him, just take it with a glass of vaseline lil nib there ain't no recovering from this sadly.

That's the perfect video game storyline. Pretentious writing is king when it comes to vidya. The point is not for idiot writers to lore dump you or make overconvoluted characters, it's to make the setting and gameplay more fun to tromp through. I don't give a shit if Bob Page is a complete retard with paperthin backstory, he's a funny asshole that encourages me to mess up his plans, that's all he needs to do.

Music, story and dialogue are all god tier. I don't care if there were weak spots

the RSD version removes the worst level additions like the ones at area 51

you can pepper spray lasers to get through them undetected

Fucking hell, that's aweso-

it only works for some lasers on some maps because the triggers were so poorly designed

Lmaooooooo GOAT my ass

the leftist establishment would never let this game be remade. its basically describing socialism

its describing oligarchy

The believability of the entire thing collapsed the minute I realized that MJ12 having a spy in Everett's apartment means the fucker should have already been killed by MIBs before you even got there. To say nothing of the fact they put a bomb on your chopper but for absolutely no reason don't detonate it until you've just nuked Area 51 and been dropped off at the entrance.

The believability of the entire thing

its a fucking video game it was never believable

which is leftism, or are you pretending to be retarded

The whole GMDX vs Revision feud is so funny looking back. Revision mostly adds decorations to the levels and is honest about being a reimaginig, but GMDX changes weapon balance, attachments, new augmentations, new enemy abilities, adds a fucking perk system, and calls itself the vanilla experience lol. I'm glad people are coming around on Revision the last few years

oligarchy isnt leftism or rightism you politically ignorant dullard

GMDX improves the gameplay which is much better than adding decorations

The majority of oligarchs in the real world are socialist. Again stop playing dumb

Imagine actually thinking this. Can chuds really not accept that they like a game that opposes the tyrants they so idolize?

This game hates the rich, hates the government, hates the cops, hates corporations, hates basically everyone with power. You going on about muh globalists is cope. It's a relic of 90s thinking on the topic, when everyone actually thought the UN was important for some reason. Deus Ex's globalists are not technocommunists like the modern right conceives of the term, they're technocratic oligarchs who wield money as their primary weapon and are concerned with their personal power, not that of any state apparatus.

No they aren't, they're part of countries like China and Russia and Saudi Arabia which are not socialist in any way

It changes the game much more drastically than Revision which is what makes fhe controversy so funny in retrospect.

direction-brained niggercattle

The first two hours aren’t even that good. It really picks up speed as you invest more time into it.

It depends what you value more. Revision still uses essentially vanilla gameplay, which is kind of at odds with how much more fleshed out their new levels and assets are. GMDX uses what are still essentially vanilla levels, but all the game mechanics have been updated to make more sense, be more balanced and feel better to play with. If only Totalitarian didn't hate the Revision crew I would have liked to see the two married - GMDX's mechanics in Revisions levels.

I'm glad we're finally at the point of zoomers bending over backwards to convince themselves that this game isn't good and using level design as an example, of all things.

Transcended is faithful enough with some bonus options, like being able to takedown critters or turning underpowered augments into free passives

leftoids trying to co-opt the anti-globalism anti-transhumanist conspiracy game now that woke is dead and they're frantically backpedaling away from their ideals

You love to see it!

He must be bitterly jealous that they got a Steam release while his mod has been supplanted by Transcended.

t. zoomie who learned of the game through a youtube profile picture

if you're too young to remember the 90s then you should not be allowed to post in deus ex threads

how old are you

how new are you

He can't say because he'll get banned.

been here since 2008, how old are you?

My zoomer coworkers are literally filtered by Liberty Island
So yeah, you are gay as fuck. Sasuga OP

If you guess my age within two years I'll leave the thread

25. Faggot.

WRONG. I'll give you one more guess and generously stretch the window to three years.

32. I sunk your battleship NIGGER

NANI the fuck... my own hubris...

There was some fad a couple of years ago when everyone was putting JC Denton in their pfp, no idea why.

i WASN'T that anon btw i just felt like guessing LOL

the threads praising it are inorganic as fuck

yes, thank you
the IP might be up for sale so they're trying to pump up the attention

deus ex threads on Anon Babble are older than both of you

deus ex is a good game you contrarian cucks. here's a clip i took during one of the last levels to prove i finished the game

The fact people are listing so many levels off the top of their head (even to say they are shitty levels) means they are at least memorable. can you remember any of the levels in HL2 other than when you're driving the airboat?

[CHAD-CHAD 2 OUT OF NOWHERE]

nova prospekt and ravenholm

I really like SS2 (think SS1 is better though) and have tried playing dude sex several times and always quit before the first mission is over
I even like the theme of dude sex more than SPAAAAACE, dunno why this is

incentivized to roomba every single map looking for XP triggers

roomba

lel
valid criticism

can you remember any of the levels in HL2

yeah

shit i guess i missed this thread
see you guys on June 23

one of the few positives of gmdx is making suits toggleable. for the first time ever I took enivorn training to complement the power ups which turned it into a proto build in itself

revision was and still is a mixed bag. some of the style changes clash heavily with the original assets. Other then that the gmdx trannie was supposedly a huge raging shitbag that got kicked off revision crew when he basically wanted to fallout:new frontier it (hijack and hold it hostage). like he is such a petty turd he even wont allow anybody to port gmdx gameplay changes over to revision to combine the two

Imagine caring about the drama of people who make mods

So play it modded then?

Way to out yourself as gay AND retarded.

I've finished it 5 times and I still think it's the greatest game ever made. Fuck you.

t. 40 y/o boomer

I always like that Amelie parody poster in Paris

Fails as an FPS due to RPG elements

Fails as an RPG due to FPS elements

I will admit is very interesting in terms of design but actually playing it is anti-fun.

dude just level your weapon skills

or I could just not play it

>Fails as an RPG due to FPS elements

this isnt true

Yes it is. It relies on twitch reflexes for combat which means it is not actually an RPG.

thats not the definition of RPG

deus ex

twitch combat

It is.
Yes, you have to manually aim your weapons and use movement to avoid enemy attacks in real time: not an rpg.

No it isn't, you're literally making shit up

maybe educate yourself before posting next time.

you are mentally and physically retarded

Tell me where I can educate myself on the formal definition of RPG
Surely it exists somewhere and isn't something you just made up

Ok so where is the definition listed on this website
Because there's a lot of talk about real time games here

dumbest post i've seen on Anon Babble all year

real time = twitch reflexes

wtf kind of 100 year old geriatric are you lmao

maybe try reading? get back to me when you have a basic level of knowledge on the topic.

I've been to RPG Codex before, like I said, a lot of the games they talk about are real time
So where's the definition?

just someone who doesn't care for action games being mislabelled and sold as RPGs

Like I said, do your homework.

You mean "I'm making shit up and you called my bluff so I concede the argument"

im so glad you agree that baldurs gate 1 & 2 are dogshit twitch games

real biting criticism from someone that didn't even know what an rpg is. you might as well just play god of war, it's just as much of an rpg as deus ex.

Is this the birth of an epic new schizo?

They have pause built into the battle system, no twitch reflexes required.

See "RPG" standing for "Role-Playing Game" is a common misconception, it actually stands for "Rturn Pbased Gcombat".

They have pause built into the battle system

So does DX just open your inventory

uhh hello pausing the game is the epitome of twitch reflexes you fucking nigger?? turn-based only in this house retard

Nah this guy trolls a lot of RPG threads, I've seen him before

This. Fuck Tusk.

The combat does not need to be turn based but it does need to rely entirely character stats and equipment or have the option to do so. This can be done without being turn based and is done in many games but NOT in deus ex.

According to whom?

pathetic
baldurs gate has auto-pause which you would know if you had played it.

It's the only single player game I've played more than 3 times and I still play it almost yearly. Maybe this summer I'll do it again. It's a phenomenal game and there's still nothing else quite like it.

DX.png - 761x302, 168.91K

So is Deus Ex gonna become the next cow to be sent to the contrarian slaughterhouse?
Also, the "you got it from Youtube" meme? Jesus, at least be more original with that. I see that shit in every single community now.
At least DBfags went full schizo with their /dbs/ shitposting.

the entire history and development of RPGs. just because someone told you your FPS was an rpg and you get stat points doesn't mean it is one.

concession accepted adhd fag

People praising Deus Ex are the contrarians. It's a piece of shit from the people that brought you DAIKATANA. It's fucking garbage and if it didn't "predict the future" aka stuff literally anybody could've guessed, it would've been lost to the anals of time.

pch-chooo
pch-chooo
pch-chooo

Throughout the entire history of video game RPGs they've been real time aswell as turn based, going all the way back to the 80s

concession accepted

the final cope of an anon with no argument. enjoy your action game I am told many people like the genre.

ultima underworld is an rpg

You just can't understand why people like it so you made this thread and samefagged a bunch of replies to it because the idea that people like different things than you doesn't fit into your tiny brain

Do you even understand what RPG means?
The concept has nothing to do with combat, you can slap any combat system into a RPG but if you can still RP in your G then it's an RPG.

what incredible projection from an adhd fag :D

No, but many games have been mislabeled and sold as RPGs but in reality they were something else. For example, JRPGs.

if you can still RP in your G then it's an RPG.

That would make The Sims an RPG

from the people that brought you DAIKATANA

While it was made by Ion Storm, it was made by an entirely different/new branch made of a whole different team mostly coming from Looking Glass.

because half the levels are dogshit

honestly Ive always thought this.
Also the combat and movement is fucking janky as hell compared to other games at the time.
I think ultimately it was pretty ambitious in what it tried to do and it was great for its time.

NO U

Fuck off, nigger

mario is an RPG i can RP as a plumber

Sorry but no, words have meaning.

Still haven't defined what an RPG is outside of your mind

Only zoomer posers praise it as such

Zoomers are just wigger millennials, generation Fred Durst. Millennials praise it as one of the greatest of all time because it was, and this praise has become so widespread and commonplace that it triggers the faggot african genes that most modern Anon Babbletards have that force them into constant 24/7 contrarianism. I used to joke you faggots would hate a blowjob if someone posted enough greentext saying it was 'reddit', but most of the trad chad larper faggots are unironically there already.

Hello dudesex frens. For me, it will always be
youtu.be/nBPK_oXeJgA?si=YPjasrY7hW-oiMuH

I can hear "agh!" and crowbar smacking metal in my head when this plays.

words have meaning.

RPG is a word that has basically no meaning because it doesn't mean games where you can roleplay, it means games that are descended from Dungeons & Dragons

Do your own homework.

No such definition exists, there is no council of RPGs who have defined the term, it doesn't mean anything

That seems like a meaning to me, illiterateanon.

It's a meaning but it has nothing to do with the word, so the word(s) have no meaning

It's okay, you don't have to like true RPGs only. It isn't a law.

There's no definition of RPG

this question has been discussed for years on vrpg and I do believe there is a definition out there somewhere. Just don't listen to the tabletop fags.

they have meaning so they have no meaning

hmm, what level of ascended intellect is this?

I do believe there is a definition out there somewhere

well until someone finds it I'm going to say it doesn't have an agreed upon meaning, because it really doesn't, an RPG is in the eye of the beholder

It's simply not the greatest game of all time

Fair enough. What's the best videogame of all time?

HagSmiling.jpg - 640x550, 124.6K

Maybe one day you'll be as smart as me kid

Red Dead Redemption 2

no it's not. only a faggot casual would say that. You really can't tell the difference between an action game and a fucking rpg? You don't deserve more than this (You).

gonna do my 1st playthrough and got GMDX v10 community version since it appearantly removes most of the unnecessary additions. am i making a mistake? does it REALLY change the game that much for the negative?

Yes, let me go enjoy my favorite RPG: Gran Turismo 2 in which I play the role of a race car.

only a faggot casual would say that.

No, it's just an objective fact that the meaning of RPG is not agreed upon, there is no common consensus and it means different things to different players
If it was up to me RPG would literally mean "role playing game" not a D&D dervivative with stats

skill points does not an RPG make.

GMDX RSD is the best GDMX version
If you're an experienced gamer and you care about difficulty and game balance and want a challenge I would say go with GMDX RSD, otherwise go with the vanilla game

Ocarina of Time

That's what most people consider an RPG, a game where you have statistics that govern your behaviour or experience and you level up

I can't wait to play the latest RPG from Nintendo, Donkey Kong Bananza! It's up to me what an RPG is.

but realistically how much am i missing out by not playing vanilla? gmdx just looks and plays much better and RSD feels like it adds just more extra stuff ontop of v9 gmdx which pushes it further away from vanilla dx

Like in the classic RPG series Devil May Cry.

Nobody cares what your personal definition of a word is

lmao stop feeding him

Why do believe zoomers care about Deus Ex? Are you stupid?

RSD feels like it adds just more extra stuff ontop of v9 gmdx

It doesn't, it's just balance and polish, if anything it removes stuff from v9 like some of the bad map additions
If you want the vanilla game then play the vanilla game, but if you're an experienced RPG player in 2025 you might find it a bit easy because it gives you a huge amount of resources

now you're getting it

your appointment to DOGE should be finalized within the week; I've already discussed the matter with the president

elon DE.jpg - 593x896, 84.59K

Gothic 2

If an action game has a skill tree or you can level up then they would say it has "RPG elements"

This. They were babies when the nuDeus Ex games came out, they don't give a flying fuck about this series.
Millennials on the other hand praised it until they decided they hated Elon Musk and now just do the opposite of whatever he does.

It's simply not the greatest game of all time because half the levels are dogshit

lol
lmao
lolberty island mogs 99% of levels today
You need to disappear from my board.

Elon thought he was JC but he was actually Bob Page

They were babies when the nuDeus Ex games came out

Nta but the oldest zoomers are 28 years old. They were definetly not babies when nuDeus Ex came out.

but this post said it is an rpg if it has skill points and this one said any game is an rpg if i believe in myself hard enough.

Morrowind. An actual good rpg.

Majora’s Mask

I understand people with autism have a difficult time understanding context and nuance
The more statistics govern your behaviour the more of an RPG it becomes
In action games it mostly comes down to player skill, so they would instead just say it has "RPG elements"

How is the action in Deus Ex meaningfully different from DMC?

Not an rpg

plenty of 30+ had the demo disc or read reviews but never actually played it. I had the PC Gamer demo for years and didn't get a copy until 2007. Easily one of the best gaming experiences I ever had.

so the v10 community version is just trash then?
thx will try rsd tomorrow

Final Fantasy VII

it's 2025 they would have been 4 years old.

more of an rpg

implies some definition of rpg which it is moving toward

this is the correct answer btw. in case anyone was wondering.

v10 is some mod drama fork from someone who hates the original developer, I haven't tried it, none of the changes it makes seem interesting. Apparently it's trying to make the game more vanilla? But if you want vanilla just play the original game, why do you need a mod

I'm a millennial and I don't care what musk thinks of anything, he's a moron. However I did start playing Deus Ex for the first time recently and if he praised it it's gotta be a similar irony to people thinking homelander was the good guy in The Boys.

RPG is nebulously defined, which is why you have so many games that play nothing remotely alike called RPG. But fundamentally it's a genre where player skill takes a backseat to character skill. Halo isn't an RPG because the Master Chief making or missing a shot is entirely on me. Baldur's Gate 3 is an RPG because Shadowheart misses her attack regardless of what I do, and Gale hits regardless of what I do. Deus Ex is somewhere in the middle, but I think it's fair to say it's at least an action RPG.

30 year old zoomer, I was 16 when Human Revolution came out and it got me to try the original game. The little music interludes on the radio between the (not)Alex Jones skits got me intrigued. It ended up surpassing HR and becoming one of my all time favorites.

Deus Ex is a slow first person shooter with inventory management and DMC is a fast paced third person action game based on doing combos
What a dumb fucking question

DEHR came out in 2011. A 1997 zoomer was 14 yro by then.
Maybe the youngest one was 4 yro, I dunno, but we never count the youngest ones, otherwise we might also say millennials were 15 when nuDeus Ex came out.

Correct. This is.

In Deus Ex character skill barely matters at all, yet people still call it an RPG, because RPG is a term that has multiple definitions. People also call games where you have multiple gameplay modes like combat and dialogue and you can make choices on how you play RPGs

So a game has to be slow paced in order to be an RPG? At what speed does it become an action game? It seems like the camera perspective is important. Can a third person game ever be an rpg? perhaps itlf ot plays very slowly?

Gran Turismo 2

You didn't say anything about RPGs you asked what the difference between DMC and DX was

Yes, people are often incorrect as seen in this thread.

character skill barely matters at all

Not true, and those sorts of weasel words like "barely" do a lot of heavy lifting there, it's undefinable and unmeasurable, but you can throw it in front of anything and qualify or disqualify whatever you like. "Oh there's character skill, and it influences outcomes? Well something something BARELY so now it doesn't count", it's retard logic.

This is the actual correct answer and not the other ones btw. In case anyone was wondering.

So then why is DMC an action game but Deus Ex is an RPG?

Dawn of War

There's no such thing is correct because there is no formal definition

it's undefinable and unmeasurable

No it isn't
The biggest impact character skill has in DX is your ability to aim your weapons, which seems like a big deal but it really isn't because DX is ultimately a game about stealth, exploration and resource management

why dont people like revision?

Super Mario 64.
/thread

there is no formal definition

You got me. ow you will need to ezcuse I'm going to play one of my all time favorite RPGs, Mario Party 3.

Breath of the Wild

large.jpg - 1920x1080, 830.99K

No it isn't

It is, you just can't read or think very well and so misunderstood that the "it" in question is the word barely. Skills matter in your favorite gold standard RPG, but barely so not really.

There is no formal definition of RPG, but there is a consensus opinion. You can't say the consensus opinion is "wrong" because there is no formal definition to override it, but nobody considers Mario Party an RPG

Minecraft. Totally serious btw

I honestly haven't tried it, but generally modders just don't have any taste, and often change things just because they can. You can see when they learned how to do something because they start doing it everywhere all the time no matter how out of place. A big part of the problem with newer games is modders and people with a modding mindset getting hired, its why you have restaurants in Starfield where nobody is eating yet every table is packed with food, modders love clutter because they just learned how to place items. I don't know, it's just kind of jeet game design.

You can't think very well if you're unable to deal with unobjective truths
Just because you can't absolutely measure it doesn't mean it's unknowable

I prefer 3. Best Carpg there ever was. Shame they killed the franchise with 7.

nobody considers Mario Party an RPG

I do because people roleplay as faggots when playing that game.

I do and so does everyone I know. You might say we have a consensus.

Deus Ex Invisible War

It's not terrible, but they expanded all the levels without much purpose or reason and restored some cut content without understanding why it was cut. Worth a playthrough if you already played vanilla a couple times, but it's a bad place to start.

Then in your small group of strange people it's an RPG, but to everyone else it is not

It isn't that you can't absolutely measure it, it's that you can't measure it at all, I can say it about literally anything. A ham and cheese sandwich is barely a sandwich, water is barely a liquid, you're barely alive, and so on. It's a way for unintelligent third world anons to dismiss things without any real cause or basis, faggy meme language for faggy retards.

it's that you can't measure it at all

You can
You can measure how much of an impact on gameplay a particular game element has
In Deus Ex most of your tactical choices are not determined by your character stats

My group is bigger and more normal than yours. We have the majority opinion actually.

Whatever pisses Anon Babble the most

If that were true then your definition of RPG would be the dominant one and thus "correct"

This anon gets it. Literally the only white man in this sea of brown.

You can't, and you're doing the same thing with "most". I put points in pistol, so I carry pistols, invest my mods into pistols, put more points into pistol, and perform better with pistols. I know that isn't "most" tactical choices, whatever you imagine those to be, and that this "barely" matters, but that's the reality of the game.

I wish the game was longer.

this game is an rpg. I can't explain why, but it is.

It's gigakino is what it is

I could literally measure all the the tactical choices I make while I'm playing, and most of them would be unrelated to my character build. Character build really just affects the weapons you choose and you aren't often making decisions about that, you invest into pistols and only pistols and that just means you're using pistols for the rest of the game. Most of your decisions are about exploring the map, enemy behaviour and resource management

i used a mod just to get it running and it never tracked my playtime.

Last of Us

half the levels are dogshit

name them
yeah the game gets a lot more linear after paris but that doesn't make the levels dogshit

You're not smart enough to realize you're wrong, have been proven wrong repeatedly, and barely use hollow box words to sweep most arguments away so you can close your eyes and mostly ignore them barely. "Oh well these skills only influence tactical gameplay but thats mostly not tactical choices whatever that is and mostly you just manage resources like ammo barely mostly", it's nonsense. You don't want to be right, you just want to argue. A lot of jeets are like this here, and it kind of ruins the place.

have been proven wrong repeatedly

No I haven't. You're just saying "you can't". Is your argument that if you can't absolutely measure something then it's invalid? Just because you don't understand what I'm saying doesn't mean it's wrong. When you are playing a game your brain is doing things, it's thinking about things, when you are playing Deus Ex you are barely thinking about your character build in comparison to other RPGs where you build characters

7 way tie, in order.
Rust, World of Warcraft, Metal Gear Solid, FFX, Fall Guys, Minecraft, Gran Turismo 6.

I finished it and even played Revision on realistic difficulty.

You're just saying "you can't"

No, I'm just describing the way the game works, and you're inventing new and ever more ridiculous ways to claim it doesn't count. It isn't enough for character skill to be in the game and to influence gameplay outcomes, apparently it needs to influence a narrow and undefined slice of the game, in exactly a certain way, and only if some retard claims to think about it. What you're too dense to understand is that every claim you're making could be made about every game ever made, claimed to be an RPG or not, with the same or greater veracity, but you're still stuck on this "absolute measure" argument you flailed around with originally which was itself born out of your illiteracy and low IQ. You're unironically too dumb to be talking about video games on Anon Babble, and there are literally indians here. Give it a rest.

Paris isn’t as good as Hong Kong and lacks niche interactions like Hell’s Kitchen, but it’s very good.
Catacombs and church kick ass.
Vandenburg is a good level and the sea base is awesome.
Area 51’s ending is amazing.
What’s your problem?
Hong Kong and versalife are the most awesome levels ever made.

We're not talking about a binary black and white thing here. Your character build in Deus Ex matters, it just matters significantly less than it does in other RPGs. You say it's not measurable, well you can measure the amount time and thought you spend making decisions about it, and it's not a lot compared to other RPG games
You're calling me dumb but you got lost in the argument because you don't understand what "tactical" means and you thought I was just making shit up, stop being so arrogant

it just matters significantly less than it does in other RPGs

Which is moving the goal post and irrelevant. "Oh shit I counted the jumps in Sonic and it's only 87% as many jumps as Mario had, its not a REAL platformer", it's tard logic. You're too stupid to understand why you're wrong no matter how many times it is laid out to you in increasingly simple and easy to understand ways, so much so that you constantly fallback to arguing with a point of contention that literally only exists because you can't read or think very well.

Versalife is probably the worst level in DX, it's a bunch of long linear corridors with barely anything to do

Which is moving the goal post

No it's not, that was my point from the start
You're constantly calling me stupid but this conversation has been you constantly misunderstanding me
You need to chill out

No, you implied it wasn't an RPG, and now "in other RPGs", but you're too dense to understand the meaning and implications of your own words.

I swear to Christ every third thread turns into this now, some dumb fuck faggot that can't read just takes things that shouldn't even be a point of contention and turns it into that dumb fuck needing 100+ replies to understand English. Why are you here? Why are you losing arguments all day in a language you don't understand? I'm so fucking sick of this website being online Mumbai now.l

No, you implied it wasn't an RPG

No I didn't, you assumed that incorrectly
You're raging at me but this conversation has been you misunderstanding everything I say
Being angry is clouding your ability to think clearly

statue was kino. sewer was kinda gay. The trap in the train station was kino. I always thought hong kong was just okay. Don't remember the rest other than unatco turning into a shitload of mechs but it was pretty kino all things considered. What really carries this game is the little details. Great music, sound effects, mirrors, hidden shit everywhere in crisp 3d. You know I was 12 and I did the women's room thing with no knowledge, I just expected it to exist from being a perve in the metal gear solid bathroom.

RPG = game where character skill > player skill

" DX is ultimately a game about stealth, exploration and resource management"

continually downplay character skill's involvement in the game

continually disagree with posts the only meaning of which is 'deus ex is an rpg'

bu-bu-but

Just kill yourself. At this point I'm sure you're being as vapid and faggy as possible just to elicit a reaction, and I'm sure you're really proud of yourself that a stranger on the internet thinks you have an IQ of 80. Dishonest, slippery faggots who can't understand anything, intentionally or not, make discussion here impossible.

>RPG = game where character skill > player skill

I didn't make this post
Stop making yourself look like an idiot
My opinion on what is an RPG or is not an RPG is that it's a stupid question to even ask, because RPG is poorly defined

I didn't make this post

Nobody said you did, you just aren't very good at reading, which has been your problem throughout the thread, probably throughout your life.

Oh so you're angry at me for posts I didn't make? That makes a lot of sense

imagine if you played the role of a brother that had sex with his younger sister instead of two brothers that do stuff in the future

The gas station level was fun but felt tacked on. Same as the middle silo level. Very little connection to anything

everything else past Hong Kong I forget out of principle

that makes you one ugly son of a bitch

I figure that guy wasn't working for MJ12, he was just planting a bomb for his own reasons
