Ive now picked up Metaphor for the first time after clearing Clair Obscure and i have to say that while E33 is more fun to play, personally i think Metaphor blows it out of the water in terms of artistry. Funnily enough it feels like Metaphor comes from the b-studio here, feels less polished and swinging much more wildly, but they are pulling it off so far. (I've only just finished the Cathedral mission) I can totally see why Clair Obscur would be preferred by the a mass market. It's much more easily digestible and dopamine-triggering.

E33 is like 3 leagues ahead.
how does it stand up to the best rpg of the modern era persona 5?
I played the first hour of the demo for Metaphor and dropped it. I played 90% of act 1 for Clair Obscure and dropped it.
In terms of popcorn appeal for sure.
Why are you still playing turnslop 23 years after Kingdon Hearts made ARPGs viable?
Metaphor does have a nice artstyle compared to c33. If only other aspects were up to the same standard
I'm speechless by such artistry
Metaphor? I haven't finished it yet. Clair Obscur? Beneath it. Clair Obscur can not really stand next to any JRPG Classic, it's made for the kind of people who adore Christopher Nolan. Doesn't make it a bad game, but it's more Entertainment than Art.
soul
Music and writing are superior. While Metaphor's dialogues aren't anything to write home about, it's themes are much more interestingly executed. Clair Obscures writing plays it safe as fuck and falls apart over the span of the game.
Rembrandt should be ashamed
However
Ah yes, RACISM BAD.
Monet? nah it's Metaphor for me
What are you trying to say?
Autism
I meant concept art not the actual in game graphics
I don't buy concept art sorry
personally i think Metaphor blows it out of the water in terms of artistry
what artistry? the GAME IS UGLY AS FUCK
As i said, i can fully understand that it doesnt leave much of an impression on a simpleton seeking familiar images as to easily activate his reward centers. Clair Obscur excels at it, which i applaud, it knew exactly how to catch the reddit audience.
Metaphor was a drag until the King resurrected as the moon and demanded the country do American Idol but then the game went back to boring faux Persona bullshit so I had to drop it
Yeah as ive only completed the cathedral mission until now i cant judge how many persona mistakes it will repeat. We will see.
seeking familiar images as to easily activate his reward centers
Bro this game straight up copies the Persona Awakenings but in worse resolution for characters acquiring archetypes
w...wow
No it doesnt.
Listen i know you want to sound smart like metaphor is some sort of experimental artistic masterpiece like cubism was back in the day, but the reality is that the game is ugly. The graphics and the art dont mix well, the texture and general presentation needed to be better so the art could shine.
Sadly, you get ugly shit like
japs are so fucking hacks
Indeed, wow. Turning Bosch paintings into this malignant mysterious race called "Humans". I can't wait to explore where the game takes all of this. Clair Obscur sadly only used inspiration from young adult fantasy fiction.
Expedition wins. Metaphor and the famous Atlus time management bullshit annoys me to no end. Im not even a baguette enjoyer btw. "But its actually very managable anon!". Dont care it feels like shit.
You are comparing a singular video game, an interactive medium, to an art movement. Do you intend to sound stupid?
lmao
Metaphor's second half is so dog shit it makes me mad every time I think about it.
Everything* after the Opera House is a complete mess, reused assets, stretched out pacing, generic villain and the ending is peak slop.
*everything except the twist that you were the prince all along. I actually like that sequence.
E33 on the other hand was good from beginning to end and had perfect pacing.
In terms of immediate gratification Expedition absolutely dumps on Metaphor, agreed. I'm glad you found a game more suitable for you.
I hope this isnt true. Metaphor starts out so strong artistically, it would be a shame if it really falls off so far after the second half.
E33 definitely was very entertaining and rewarding from beginning to end, even if artistically subpar and amateurish.
why do you talk like a complete faggot?
who cares? neither are video games. jrpgs are not video games.
You're baiting but I agree.
Please elaborate
the good jrpgs are art
the good jrpgs are farts
the only "art" of gaming is interactivity/gameplay and jrpgs have none
but lets be generous and include narratives and aesthetics
jrpgs still have the visual and narrative quality of children cartoons lmao
nips do not understand subtlety
go read a book, dumbass
you probably listen to final fantasy music too, yikes
I did the same thing. I am dropping Metaphor for now. E33 was just so much better and none of the jap bullshit. I preordered RAIDOU and dont want to get burnt out on it before RAIDOU comes out. Most JRPGs dont respect my time at all. E33 did. I could stop wherever and pick it up next day. Metaphor probably had more run to one end of the zone to another for no reason in the intro than E33 had in its entire game. Blocking save pisses me off. I can’t rely on suspend because I live in a third world country where the power goes out most times it rains, named the USA.
I think Metaphor blows it out of the water in terms of artistry
The player/npc models were terrible. Worse than P5 and SMTV, probably worse than TMS:#FE.
Opera house
second half
That's more like the last 20% of the game
generic villain
What's generic about Louis? It would have been generic if Atlus pulled another "actually it was a god the whole time"
ending is peak slop
It would have been if it ended happily ever after but the game goes out of its way to show that change is going to be hard and take time.
I preordered RAIDOU
please don't do that
Its such an E33 take to say that the art of video games is just gameplay, when its built through so many art forms. Nips understand that video games need to approach writing from a different angle than modern literature, rather they bed their works in the epic writing of ancient and medieval times, or fairy tales and myth as these, with their less subtle approaches to theme lend themselves much better to the interactivity of the medium. You cant do Joyce or Mann in this medium, yet for story centered games you need a direction for the writing. Go read more books.
Like I had a choice. I need to support my wife.
Woman bad at cooking LMAO
lets not pretend that ASPECT RAIDOU is somehow good
That's more like the last 20% of the game
In terms of new content, yes. There are only 1.5 dungeons and like 3 new bosses after that.
In terms of time, no. You spend so much fucking time on the last 30 free day it's absurd. There are so many side quests and side dungeons.
Yes they are all optional, but due to the calendar system there is literally nothing else you could be doing outside of just wasting days waiting for the final fight.
define "artistically", my nigger
you have used this word a billion times by now and I don't think anyone understand what you mean by that.
*chuckling*
That part reminded me so much of Grimmelhausens Simplicissimus
Metaphor is good if you're more of an adolescent into the anime rubbish.
LMAO
I'm trans btw if anyone was wondering
clean visuals
vibrant colors
stylized character
Westoids would never.
You'll be sourly disappointed, the best thing about metaphor is it's potential, in actually it's quite an embarrassingly dimb witted story, told poorly
You think there's some kind of deep artsy meaning behind calling some enemies humans, and there isn't
The story clumbsly moves along with plot contrivances after plot contrivance and poorly written at best cringe dialogue. There's not a sinlge impressive narrative element, the racial groups in game are purely aesthetics
the ghestrals in E33 have more depth and thought and better execution put into them, than anything in the entire world of metaphor.
In terms of gameplay its obvious garbage with difficulty based purely in tedium in which energy management is the only real difficulty besides pure RNG, but the narrative ideas and execution is compete shit by comparison
No, you don't like that sequence. You like the twist , and i do too, but the sequence and the writing is all complete dogshit
In what world does a literal hour of mindnumbing word vomit info dumping, that barely makes any sense in a world where you make you own rules, enjoyable
What game would Quentin have preferred
You have no understanding of artistry, you're completely compromise by shallow aesthetics over a shallow narrative
I agree metaphor is pretty(outside of the embarassing graphics), but it has nothing of substance underneath
you niggers are delusional if you think that unreal slop of a game written by woman and faggots is worthy to be comparable to Hashino san’s masterpiece. just kys.
Agreed
Okay, and? Who the fuck cares about "artistry" and shit? You need to stand in solidarity with the Anon Babble Movement. We like E33 because it's non-woke. Metaphor is woke. Get it?
I guess I like the buildup for the twist and the twist itself. I agree that the lore dump afterwards was quite shit.
Nothing on the 3DS that's for sure
Based MetaGOD
it sure looks great
I never actually considered metaphor or persona. Never got into anime besides bebop and NGE, so it still looks offputting to me
