what's your opinion on this boss?
What's your opinion on this boss?
I love the projectile/nuke mechanic
Beautiful, I loved it.

GET THE FUCK BACK HEREEEEEEE
It's an honest boss fight
gameplayslop
Fishe :)
ironeye or youre fucked
I really don't like how over-the-top these games have become, I miss the times where a big monster on a narrow bridge could feel like a threat, now it's all about the bosses spamming their lightshow bullshit while you watch and roll and roll and roll, it gets really tiring after a while.
The hardest part is the sleep because it's so fucking boring.
I don't hate him as much when I realized you can just run away from the falling droplet to avoid the sleep AoE instead of succumbing to MMObrain and shooting it.
Did you guys notice how awesome and unique all the osts are now? That ugly bitch was indeed the problem, since she joined from all the bosses music became variants of the abyss watchers ost (church choir and le epic instruments), now it’s like they went to the demons souls and ds1 era
So fucking gay when a faggot ragequits during a actually good run
I didn't buy the dlc.
In other words....it insists upon itself
How can you tell if someone isn't interested in this game?
Don't worry, they'll tell you.
I've only seens a few pictures so far, I think he looks cool and majestic.
Blame DS3.
I saw a vid of it and I genuinely don't get how anyone could find these fights fun
looks so fucking boring to just run after some giant spermatozoa spamming ranged attacks while the camera goes apeshit trying to keep up with his bizarre movements
Easiest one so far
god ds3 is such an abortion. At least bloodborne made some effort to adjust to fast pace combat
I do feel its unfair blaming Bloodborne considering its a side game and doesn't play like any other game.
Don't be disingenous. Taurus is an early game boss that's reused as a common enemy and the early game bosses in ER are also equally mundane.
As a game, Elden Ring destroys each of the Dark Souls games in every single way. So the last shall be first, and the first last.
Don't be disingenous.
Imo the sentiment he echoes is correct. There is a massive power gap/difference in philosophy with ER/DS3 bosses.
For instance ER bosses/mini bosses literally read your animations and counteract based off of them.
There is a niche idea to the very early part of souls that suits the clunkiness of it all that I think people miss.
It's a simplicity thing, more with less.
I can kind of see it, though I by no means have a problem with the more explosive over-the-top concepts post BB.
Why are you excluding BB bosses?
equally mundane
early game boss in ER is a guy with a magic hammer shooting magic knives and then a guy with a dragon arm that shoots fire breath and throws wind at you
dont be disingenuous
BB is a spin off game. It has different mechanics from the mainline titles and even its boss design is different.
He's clearly talking about Demi-human queen, Crucible Knight and Lionine Misbegotten.
all bosses you can easily miss because the game railroads you into stormveil castle which is what the majority did instead of running into some random castle south of the map the early game bosses are margit and grafted not those 3 literal whos
oh no you took 15 steps in and then stepped left instead of right there
this fight will take at least 0.15 seconds longer now than it ideally should thanks to YOU FUCKING NOOOOOOB
Multiplayer games are unplayable in this age
But marge is literally impossible unless you're like level 40, which you won't be unless you've explored pretty much everything else on the map outside the castle
the game railroads you into stormveil castle
I agree with your overall point but only an npc immediately goes where the game is telling him to go after getting dropped into a massive open world map
That's retarded. It slightly tweaks core souls concepts,
Fusing 2 weapon types together so instead of a 2-hand move set you just get completely different weapon type move pools with maybe 1 extra L2 move and a transformation attack doesn't make it a fundamental change that would forfeit it as a souls game.
It's basically weapon swapping but without the weight burden and a nice swapping combo to maintain the attack flow.
Swapping simple weapon infusions with diablo gems is an arbitrary change to what amounts to the same mechanic.
Making parries a range attack doesn't change shit.
It's a souls game, that was designed with a faster pace and more aggressive bosses and the series stuck with that pacing for the games after it.
BB bosses were tamer than the games after it, but were still immensely different from DeS through DaS II.
NTA, but he's right. Margit is like the first boss you will encounter. Almost everyone fought him first before getting btfo'd and exploring the map.
The game also features a rally system which encourages trading with bosses/enemies to get health. Side steps also alter the flow of dodging
You're right in that its still close to the souls games, compared to something like Sekiro which is a totally different game LARPING as a soulslike.
But still. Like even DS3/ER players will shit their pants over the boss design.
Anon Babble has a subtle souls culture where you're not supposed to over level and trivialize a fight and take the fight at face value.
So on Elden Ring's launch everyone got wrecked by Morgott Forma De Fel Omen but refused to give up and go explore other places. Now they consider consider it a bad game design and a spite towards prior souls game design who's labyrinthine maps made it harder to encounter something well above your league.
One of the many subtle hidden Anon Babble culture memes people forget about, like the origin of the universal "Shields are shit in Dark Souls III" claim that even wormed its way into Elden Ring at launch, which recently was traced back to Matthew Matosis.
recently was traced back to Matthew Matosis
Its amazing how this fag hurt the perception of both DS2 and DS3. Don't know why anyone takes him seriously.
Every post BB game includes the Rally mechanic in some form, it's just always comes at a cost that is too severe making it inferior to base mechanics.
fromtrannies still anally devastated at based potatonigger exposing fromslopware as the frauds that they are
oh no n ono nonono
Because Matt recycled arguments Anon Babble was posting about DaS II's release and unlike Vaati whom they called out for doing so with disdain, they saw Matt as an equal who was spreading what they thought to a more normie audience.
Remember the asshurt about DaS II not living up to the colossal hype followed by BB's announcement as a sony exclusive mind-broke Anon Babble for a bit.
Anyone that would support the narrative that From had forsaken DaS to go on and make Sony exclusives forever was sucked off.
Don't know why anyone takes him seriously.
Because he was the first to call out nu-Souls for what it became. People respect prescience.
forced kino
Because you're talkng to a tendie shitling that hasn't played any of the games
Notice how it said the game reads your "animations"
Matt literally played DS2 on Company of Champions Covenant, which makes every enemy deal 50% more damage and decreases your damage by 20%. Then he complained it was unfair and too difficult.
Even shields in DS3 are a good option for defense and I made use of them during my DS3 run as a second layer of defense.
forced spectacle
Then he complained it was unfair and too difficult.
the meme is real fromdrones are literally incapable of understanding any sort of point that cannot be boiled down to le difficulty le git gud
literally braindead
Whenever someone so much as hints that someone is being disingenuous in trying to separate BB from souls criticism (in all likelihood a snoy).
Someone shows up and starts saying "it's a nintendo fan".
Why are you in every thread?
I know Anon Babble is stupid, but holy shit. The faggot Matthew played a game on its hardest difficulty and shat his pants that it was overly hard.
If you're not a brain dead troglodyte you might understand why this makes a review worthless.
Not him but the Matt's example of shields being useless was wrong and had nothing to do with difficulty.
Shields aren't meant to endlessly tank hits in basically any souls game with the exception being the few meme ones like Havels or Fingerprint shield.
They are a nested damage avoidance rather than "in the moment" I frame move that allows a player to comfortably position themselves around bosses a lot more efficiently than rolling does.
He effectively came to completely faulty conclusions about an actual effective mechanic and Anon Babble believed him en mass.
just defeated the nightlord. marikas hammer is very powerful. now wut
kill him with every character to actually beat the game
I have no clue what this snoy/tendie divide is all about. I literally own a PS4 and a Switch. So fucking obnoxious.
xhe doubles down
you're a failed abortion
are there actual achievements/ endings for doing so?
there is an achivement
Ragebait or retardation. Call it.
Even shields in DS3 are a good option for defense
I played DS3, and as unmemorable and bland as it was, shields being much shittier than rolling is something I distinctly remember.
Not him but the Matt's example of shields being useless was wrong and had nothing to do with difficulty.
Matt didn't say that they were useless, just that rolling was blatantly the meta the devs wanted to encourage, which is obviously true given how cheap rolling became in DS3 compared to DS1.
He effectively came to completely faulty conclusions about an actual effective mechanic and Anon Babble believed him en mass.
No, he said the Souls series was becoming bland trash with a boring meta and he was right.
It's just a re-direction.
You're not allowed to mention that the" anti-fromdrone" SHAZAM crusade is just an evolution of all the 13 year old console war shit posters from 2015 getting 500+ easy (you)s with a daily thread of Gold face shitting down PC players' throats while dressed as the Good Hunter.
When you can no longer feed off the salt of what Anon Babble covets, corrupt and ruin what Anon Babble exalts.
The shields fair fine against the faster bosses, so rolling had to be buffed to compensate.
The only fair criticism regarding that in III is From didn't equip players with a good enough offense against it in pvp.
what's your opinion on this boss?
Earnestly love the Space Hydrozoa: full points in creature and sound design. Love her. BIG, big, fan of Space Animals. Fight is this though: >I miss the times where a big monster on a narrow bridge could feel like a threat
Pic I'm assuming is unrelated.
"Big monsters on a narrow bridge" have only ever been threatening in Souls games once when you first meet them. Every 'other' big monster stops being threatening because you quickly realize they'reslow and predictable. "Single Humanoid Warrior" has always been, and continues to be, the singular enemy everyone continues to shit, fart, and panic roll over.... That and dogs.
I agree with this, DS3 is designed around the roll. Was just stating how I would also use a shield to eat hits in DS3 when my rolls failed. Its kinda weird how there's this idea you can't do both.
face this boss for the first time today
team is 2 ironeyes and an executor
literally have no issue with this fight and it was the easiest boss in the game so far.
I can't even imagine not facing this boss without at least one ironeye.
Translation: I am a troon whose reflexes and mental acuity have been rotted by HRT and I can't stand a game that's actually somewhat challenging
I don't even agree that it was designed to not support shields just as well.
In fact in my last GS run I observed some interesting mechanics.
Champion Gundyr for example, has an extremely high stamina damage. This makes sense as his halberd boss weapon has this property.
Even with the sturdiest great shields he just shield breaks effortlessly.
To the contrary, Dancer is extremely cucked by shield use. Her attacks bounce off frequently and the whirlwind combo that people hail to be the god king of "roll slop" in how much it makes you spam roll to avoid it is utterly devastated by simply blocking it while backing counter clockwise.
Matt makes it seem like using any shield results in just endless shieldbreaks for everything, it's just completely retarded.
Also in the case of gundyr, while blocking him just doesn't work, there is another much more effective thing you can do with a shield against him
Believe it or not, there are games that are great that are easy. There are also games that are trash that are hard.
Dark Souls 1 is better than any of its sequels no matter how much easier or harder they are.
I also agree, shields have always been good in these games. From always makes sure that a variety of playstyles are viable in these games.
Like I will go out there and state that Aldritch/Crystal Sage are bosses designed for players using spells.
there are games that are great that are easy.
Not if they're too easy, which DS1 is. DS1 was surpassed by all of its literal and spiritual successors, all of which are more mechanically rich, more technically demanding, bigger, prettier, and generally better balanced.
There are also games that are trash that are hard.
True. Especially if they're too hard. But no From game even approaches that limit, at least none of their modern games.
Matt makes it seem like using any shield results in just endless shieldbreaks for everything
No, he's saying the meta in DS3 is rolling, which it is. There's a reason why 'no rolls' is a challenge run in DS3 and 'no shields' isn't.
The people you matchmake with make the game bad, not the bosses or game itself. The amount of fucking retards you run into even with the FEXTRA passkey is staggering. Why is everyone so stupid?
First round is for sight levelling
Second round is church flask clean up and more levelling
Boss
This is the loop, that’s it, that’s all there is to it, and some of you people are actually too stupid for it
The first story boss 99% of players fight in ER is a dude four times your size swinging around a giant hammer made of light and tossing energy daggers while flipping around like a spastic and monologuing at you, go fuck yourself.
all of which are more mechanically rich, more technically demanding, bigger, prettier, and generally better balanced.
you niggers deserve your fortnite clones
Aldritch is another boss that great shields don't do so well on, because his attacks come from all directions. Magic floater delayed missles, aoe patches and swinging the glaive behind you.
That just sounds completely retarded, there are actual bosses that are far easier to deal with using a shield than a just dodging. Ocerios is one such example.
Story boss
Yeah and taurus isn't a story boss, it's a common enemy like farum azula beastmen, crucible knights, gravewarden, burial watchdog.
There is a reason no rolls is a challenge run
Grab attacks which exist because of shields.
Do you have an actual argument?
You literally have to fight tauros to progress through the game unless you picked the master key and have fairly detailed knowledge of the game's map. Virtually every player will fight tauros, and he will be the first boss in Lordran for 99% of people. Funny how you opened with "don't be disingenuous" when you're throwing around retarded shit like this to try winning an internet argument. He is a story boss in the same way the gargoyles are story bosses or that Margit is a story boss; technically skippable, but in almost any typical playthrough they are intended to be mandatory fights to progress through the game.
While true, there's also the fact that they can't just keep it that simple in perpetuity.
For those of us who've been playing this shit since the start, how many times have we killed these things? How many things have we learned doing so?
I can see why they'd want to present us with new challenges and they have to ramp up in some way as we best them or it would actualy be boring.
The issue isn't so much that they keep ramping thing sup, it's that they've done it for so long now that the line between fair and sort of shit gets narrower and narrower.
I'm glad they're at least trying to keep walking that line and Nightreign is a damn good showing of that walk.
I can smell the reused Elden Beast rig from miles away.
this is why they should make a new combat system from the grounds up imo. Elden Ring was an IP change, it didn't need to play like faster Dark Souls they could have made something new that even "souls veterans" would have been unfamiliar with
Margit has a cheevo, he is a story boss.
Tauris does not, it's a minor boss.
Virtually every player will fight tauros, and he will be the first boss in Lordran for 99% of people.
And Margit will NOT be the first boss defeated in Limgrave for 99% of people, why are you comparing them again?
players have insanely fast dash based dodges that cover a ton of ground
players can ''gun parry'' from a safe distance
invest into Skill stat to basically delete the boss' entire fucking health gauge with a critical
get hit? be assertive; within like 5 seconds, you can get your health back by just attacking.
take a huge hit? perform a critical hit to gain your entire health bar back, no joke
oh you can also have 20+ blood vials to spam heals with
Realistically, what could they change?
This system is what they've been using almost since they began as a studio, all that's really changed is control scheme and perspective.
The first into the trash can. Elden Ring is copy-and-pasted garbage.
idk, it's for them to figure out lol. I do realize that making something new would have been a big investment that would have taken away resources from other areas, but Sekiro showed that they are capable of coming up with good new combat systems
Kitamura haters are unbelieveably retarded
youtu.be
Sekiro is same shit different focus, not a different system.
Don't confuse the facade for the underlying system.
If they want the game to be more action oriented they need to make an engine that can support that freedom they want. What I hate about modern souls games is the complete disconnect from the origional thoughful and methodic combat to the half baked rollslop we see today held back by the assumptions of the original series. Pick a lane, stop trying to do both.
It's soooo much more memorable than anything from the base game
seeIt's a curse of their success, popularity and customer loyalty.
It's really been the same since at least AC1, if not earlier.
well maybe I'm ok with keeping the core then, simply moving ER's focus away from rolling and stamina would probably have been enough to make it feel compellingly different
Holy disingenuous holy shit. Go suck a bag of dicks
Pray I get an Arrow's Reach drop and just R1R1R1R1 until my finger falls off
It's the only boss I first-tried solo because I happened to be Ironeye. Wasn't even counting on victory because I was just doing my rememberence quest and wasn't being efficient during the run at all.
I disregard any retard who thinks ER is about roll spam when the game gives you so many parryable enemies, guard counter, ridiculously good shields and shield skills, sekiro deflects, and you can duck under or jump over many attacks to keep your pressure going.
More like 'blame Bloodborne'. BB broke Miyazaki
every new game now needs multiple phase bosses
every new game now needs a Lady Maria clone
every new game now needs fast pace combat
Elden Ring TOTALLY needed Chalice Dungeons 2.0
every new game now needs to make blocking/tanky builds way less effective
DS1 was surpassed by all of its literal and spiritual successors
Bait used to be believable.
beat it on my second try, but what the fuck is up with those instakill sleep attacks? how do you avoid those? they would've killed the run if I hadn't bought more revives.
To be fair, at this point the one thing keeping DaS 1 sacred aside from being sub-legacy is its tight level design.
Was actually impressed, felt bad that I only played since a friend gifted it to me so he wouldn't play alone.
how do you get new memories? or does wylder's end at chapter 6?
If you remove the stamina you remove a good chunk of the player awareness requirement, not too dissimilar from EN in AC.
What would you redirect that player focus to? Something that's not just a stamina proxy. While stamina may seem basic at first, the fact it encompasses so much is why it's a focus to begin with. You could split it up into several things, but then unifying it under stamina makes those options compete for that resource.
I get why people hate it, it's because it's so central but it's honestly what makes the system work the way it does.
seems like you either need a buff to resistance in the run, be sure to be full health before you fall asleep, or if you're close stagger it if you're sure you can. I fell for one of you dumb niggers telling me to stand still which ended my run
hit it with lightning damage and you can interrupt it
telling me to stand still
Weird, it slowed the build up for me when I stopped moving
Looks boring to fight. Kind of like that big raindeer
if there's input reading in BB, I never noticed it. in Elden Ring, however, is really and I mean REALLY fucking noticeable.
Mind numbingly easy with the bird guy, the chip damage is not that bad and you can just block the AoE explosions.
Meanwhile the spastic centaur can fuck off.
I really don't like how over-the-top these games have become, I miss the times where a big monster on a narrow bridge could feel like a threat, now it's all about the bosses spamming their lightshow bullshit while you watch and roll and roll and roll, it gets really tiring after a while
Tryhards are to blame for everything.
Matt was right about everything. Just look at Nightreign's bosses.
just look at the best bosses From has ever put out
Ok I'm looking.
Typical subhuman tendietranny deflection
All the bosses are in flat terrain with arena sized AoE's
Very repetitive.
I'm sorry you have to learn the fights now.
I'm sorry you have to learn the fights now
Only one of them, because they all play the same.
Every single element in his fight that isn't a water splash has a health bar. You can kill the jellyfish, the tentacles, and the falling SLEEP NVKE, and all of them also deal damage to the boss. When it's playing its annoying little game of keepaway, that's when you start murdering all of its myriad adds. It's also really good to have abilities that give you bonuses for defeating enemies in that fight.
Visually a very nice fight, great bgm too. Fucking sucks to fight if you aren't Ironeye or have any ranged however.
Not very hard. I liked it.
On PSN only something like 12% of the players beat this thing
if you dont have ranged its basically impossible, that's only 2 or 3 of the 8 characters
Any character can equip a spell or bow, retard
For instance ER bosses/mini bosses literally read your animations and counteract based off of them.
No they don't lmao, you shitters are still spreading this misinformation 3 years later
Don't forget artstyle changes
Ability Shortage
surprised this never became a meme
misinformation 3 years later
Its literally been tested and verified to be true. Animations have flags which enemies will react to.
Not input reading like morons in this thread are saying, animation reading.
Anon, what makes your character play animations?
which recently was traced back to Matthew Matosis.
No it wasn't
Because they're not literally reading your inputs. Certain animations are flagged, like when you drink your flask.
You can press square over and over but they won't react, because they're not literally reacting to the input.
it feels sort of easy if everyone can damage the one shot move and stagger before sleeping. Other than that it's easy to dodge everything else except for random dashes that it likes to do with little warning.
SIDE NOTE.. bros. I feel like the game doesnt tell you anywhere that activating executors skill lets you deflect, and you can guard counter isshin ashina chop people after deflects. When I realized yesterday that you CAN actually reflex deflect I cant stop playing him, weaving in and out of the blade is peak. Dam I thought this shit was ass and wondered tf were they thinking.. deflect on hp and the passive that gives you attack boost when you deflect is kino as fuck..same with Guardian turning into a different class entirely with his relic passives you get from remembrances. It turns his whirlwind into a useful skill even for bossing the stagger can help, and his ult can aoe heal. I love the classes but some are so bricked without their unique relic passives or just feel way more boring. Wylder i feel bad cause i cant justify taking his normal relic for the fire blade unless its a fire weak boss, but it makes the skill more fun so rip.
ITS NOT FAIR, HE PLAGIARISED Anon Babble
Matt won
Ds1 holds up where ds3 doesnt because ds3 is proto elden ring and linear as fuck so after one run its surprisingly boring to replay.
Ds1 however is a pure dungeon crawler, you can be so far from a safe haven forced to fight your way out , the slower pace of the game adds tons to this experience. It's the only one I can replay, but my point is that if they were to go back to slower combat it would need to be ds1 level design and gameplay design which they wont ever do again, as in no day 1 bonfire teleporting etc, so that the combat is more casual but the world itself is much much more dangerous which was for me the main draw to ds1 besides how non linear the game is in general.
half of this thread outing themselves as 3/elden ring babies
Huh? Why does he wear a dress?
Dex main
Love/Hate depending on whether my team remembered to grab bows and lightning
tomato tomatoh
Anyways I'm heading to bed now
My parting words will be,
Observe the boss and Dark Souls 1 has a fantastic extended tutorial through gameplay.
Have a good night everyone.
to be fair, Dark Souls 2 did the second phase thing first
Katana class is a tranny
Just
Iron ball on a bridge is just half the normal enemies now. You have both, stop whining.
reach moth with a purple flame bow
did fucking nothing to him or the scorpion
I thought matching elements were supposed to be super useful? The dog got stunned by holy, the mouth dragon started puking, but nothing happened here! After dying I read fire is supposed to make the scorpion turn to stone or something, what the heck?
Killing the adds damages the boss btw.
As Guardian I hurt him a lot every time he lets the jellyfish out because I just whirlwind and kill them all instantly.
Oh so that's what makes it turn to stone, I thought it was just a regular move since he takes reduced damage during that. At least it feels that way.
Yeah it does, basically takes scorpion out of the fight for the first phase.
I dunno what fire does for the second but I find second phase easier anyway.
got lucky and got the snow storm on sprint start effect
just repositioning for the boss gets rid of the jellies by itself
Feels good
fuckin nigger. had to carry the last two games with this shithead flying everywhere and no one brought enough lightning to stun its sleep phase
I've used it as a cheeky way of saying 'skill issue' before but yeah, it's arguably too obscure to really catch on
Special effect on walk/sprint/dodge is fun as fuck, wish it was just a little more common at least for the night boss drops
stupid easy, beat him on my first try :D
recluse takes the lightning spear seal before I can grab it
when the boss starts the sleep phase he runs away instead of smacking it with the lightning
Still ended up winning but was a bit miffed
