Metroid dread
the cat and mouse sections gave me really bad anxiety to the point where I dropped the game.
The music was kinda boring, I want the ambient meme to die, also please stop adding Super Metroid songs to every single Metroid game
daily reminder super metroid is not that good and fusion was better
You play as a woman
That's pretty lame
The stealth sections sucked and took up way too much of the game.
Dev intended sequence breaks are kind of cringe.
Music is meh and it's a bit too short
this
Didn't care for the EMMI after the first two encounters. Could use some more sequence breaks. Not letting you use power bombs until the end for some item roundups was lame. Music is forgettable overall, though I find myself listening to Burenia from time to time but I'm a sucker for water zone music.
ACfag detected.
Metroid games are the worst metroidvania games. You have far more superior options than Metroid. The only reason Metroid has any kind of a following is Samus and her armor are just amazingly well designed.
EMMI sections get tiring after the first two, the music is terrible, and the bosses are not that good.
you're right but the discord won't let you just say that here they come now
Super Metroid is that good, AND Fusion was better.
The emmi parts get old and every area looks the same. Change those two things and we're seriously talking about a game on par with Super
ey nigga fuck you say about metroid? nah nigga this Metroid turf homie you dun fucked up
music is shit and there aren't enough brand new upgrades and abilities, there you happy now cocksucker? kill yourself
Is Dread going to have an upgrade for the switch 2? I hope it does.
The metal texture on samus's suits annoys me in this game most of the metal doesn't look right idk how to explain it
Who cares? Most if not all Metroidvanias these days are soulslike shit anyways. Only game I can think of that gave me a Metroid feel was ESA.
extremely linear
shitty robot sections
soundtrack isn't memorable
only the boss battles are good
Otherwise it's a pretty solid action game, the combat system and bosses are great. Enjoyed it more than Super Metroid and Reddit Knight.
WE WUZ BIRDS N SHIT
riveting stuff nintendo
Too linear. Map feels too industrial sci fi, not enough enemy variety in the first half. Backtracking suffers greatly until end game.
There wasn't an iconic score for areas that I find myself singing, unlike other metroid titles.
I didn't care for the weird visual filter in the EMMI zones, even though I like the zones.
There wasn't an iconic score
The audio producers who mixed the soundtrack into the game need to be shot.
there was almost 0 platforming that required attention
The levels could have been better differentiated, the entire game has a very samey aesthetic, an issue that Samus Returns also had.
The music also was mediocre, as usual for the franchise, they have been recycling the same two or three iconic tunes since the 90s and the rest of the sountracks are always meh, which is mystifying considering Nintendo is usually well-known for their good sountracks.
the devs were afraid to take the final step and have one emmi escape its containment area and free roam around the map.
this would have created some wonky, cheese scenarios yes, but would have been pure kino.
never any point to use beam when they just shit missile ammo at you
getting super missile then getting ice missile right after
light dash was under utilized
I'm glad I don't have to play this damn mode anymore. What was I thinking.
Music is forgettable (aside from 1 I remember liking, but who coulda guessed, I forgot the name).
Colors are ugly, muted and "Unity looking" and makes all areas feel very samey.
Abilities were standard stuff done before in other Search Action games, not inherently a con, but hurts it if they aren't used in new and unique ways. Just ended up a tad predictable and boring.
EMMIs were cool, but they could have done more, methinks. I agree with a lot actually
In general, nothing was all that memorable besides a small handful of things, but if I were to play again, it would be like playing it for the first time again lol.
Parrying also needs to go, fuckin' Mercury Steam man.
Still a great game, just middle of the roadtroid.
parryslop
As someone that enjoys Fusion I can safely say you're an idiot.
Pretty forgettable and gimmicky shit overall.
Except that final fight. That final fight is so sick.
I've only just started playing and I think clearly marking the emmi -areas with special doors kinda ruin the tension. Plus there's too many tutorials.
the missile lock on ability was fucking worthless
Pros:
-excellent combat, best 2D metroid has ever been. Parries are still too big of a factor but flash shift makes fights way more fun
-great movement, aside from the lack of same side walljumping (RIP) samus controls wonderfully
-good boss design
-paced well, little to no filler
-story held back from sakamoto's retardation from the previous metroid games...until the last 20 minutes
-fun to find sequence breaks
cons:
-environments don't stand out, the schizophrenic design of jumping through cold, hot, emmi, and normal zones means no area stands out, there are also two chozo "ruin" areas. It doesn't help that constant teleporters/trams/elevators are thrown into the mix
-railroading, even with sequence breaks in place, it's limited in what you can do because the game has "checks" to make sure you hit certain story beats how it wants you do
-EMMI are a shitty concept, stealth and chase was cute with SA-X when it was a few 15 second encounters but it's obnoxious here by the time you get to the third EMMI, it doesn't help that it's hard to "dread" these things when you just respawn almost at the same place you died
-poor OST, I don't think I need to explain this one
-lack of good new upgrades, the only good one is flash shift. Cloak was largely used for a mechanic that shouldn't have been in the game, spin boost and cross bombs are the definition of filler abilities, spider crawl and storm missiles are slight variations of existing upgrades from the past
-uninspired regular enemy designs
storm missile? That's the best DPS option in the game
yeah probably but its clunky as hell
youre probably averaging out dps just by landing regular missiles
nah that's just beam mashing + missile weaving
The maps were very samey for the vast majority of the game and progression is fucked, because you can get some power bomb tanks before the power bomb, which should never happen.
I actually don't have a lot of real criticisms, it was really fucking good.
idk is not on ps5
i didn't really care for the visual style, felt a little too "utilitarian". like if they made mario maker for metroid. something about the clean 3D look gives this impression more than something like super metroid
still a great game
easiest game of the franchise

no spider ball
yeah probably but its clunky as hell
the decision to keep the free aim button from SR was a mistake, they should have just let us aim by default with the right analog
Cultists are the ones who disapprove of any Metroid game other than Super though
mercuary steam are hacks
they released a new game but no one cares
theyll never be retro studios
