Void War

FTL + WH40K sounds like a 10/10 game so I was wondering if it's actually good or it's a scam?

it has a demo
also LOL at the obvious AI use and ship designs ripped straight from 40k

I played the demo and its fun
Invest in a few spammy weapons and 1-2 big ones - enemy shields suck ass on later stages.

Decide to pillage a ship after killing everyone on it with a psyker

"Damn those doors take too long to breach. Ship still has 2 health, so a shot to the door room should help--"

mfw the ship explodes with 2 of my men on it right afterwards

Final release soundtrack sounds nicer than the initial Itch alpha.
Full version reset alpha progress though, so folks who had all ships need to unlock them again.

advertised as a copy of anothr genre/gamw

No chance.

This bitch was tough. Weapon that heals on kill on a berserker is very strong.

Looks like generic slop

sprites look way too sharp and blocky, specially planets and weapons hotkeys, too rough on the eyes, needs interpolation or higher definition sprites

Is that one of the new minibosses?

Dunno if it's new but it's a miniboss. It had the classic "kill the crew and it gets harder"

It's entirely derivative, but it's more FTL and FTL was my jam.

Easier than FTL

"New" as in it wasn't present in the alpha. A lot of stuff was added between version 0.0.15c and the release one.

how's the difficulty?

It's genuinely forgiving, especially on Normal (should be called Easy) and Torment I (the actual normal difficulty). I've won on a couple of occasions with utterly shit ships.

Why would I play this when I already have FTL

There aren't that many games like FTL, so having a game that's "like FTL, but a different scenario" can't hurt.

Can you play as anything besides generic spess mahreens

You could try using one of the pixel perfect resolutions (they're marked as such) or activating texture filtering from settings.

"New" as in it wasn't present in the alpha

Haven't played the alpha.
Having a lot of psykers is nice, love sending a swarms of thralls and skeletons to attack even though they suck.

Grab Desecrated Shrine (+10 HP to demonic) and/or Aberrant Conduit (+2 DPS to demonic) and bury your enemies under waves of undead.

There aren't that many games like FTL, so having a game that's "like FTL, but a different scenario" can't hurt.

Also, more than a few FTL-likes tend to veer away from the classic formula a bit too much (ex. they go shmup/action shooter/base management/RTS/etc), which dilutes the experience.

How hard is it to get 40k loicense from GW?

I don't think the scale would work if you used actual 40K where even the smallest spaceship has a crew of at least 200.

It's less about the cost, and more about having to conform to their lore rules.

It could work, the scale would be larger but youd have to put in a ton of work for it not to suck ass.

Ripping off FTL is a good idea, but the level of similarity in some elements (e.g. the room icons) is downright shameless.

Ahhhh stop giving me necros, I just want another Death Knight.

Twice the price of FTL

Essentially a reskin of it, not similar to it like Trigon or Convoy but a straight up reskinned copy

Doesn't even have cloud saves

Embarassing.

Embrace the ghoul swarm, anon.

You select ship and your Captain separately. Both starting ships aren't NotMarines

This is a poor argument that is brought up all the time for a total war 40k game
A game doesn't need to have 1:1 scale of the setting to be true to the setting.

It seems like I can just unlock ships by playing the game, and can save the resonance to buy commanders. What are some interesting ones to unlock first?

Wight is great with the first demonic ship (Oblivion Cruiser A).
Cybernetic is very solid for a lot of ships, but you'll have to put another crewman in the driver seat fully use him.
Paladin is pretty good after the rework, his enhanced Purify is quite strong.
Archmage is a decent psyker with a bit of fighty, but you need to find good psychomancies.

I'd say there's no way this isn't getting sued into the ground by Games Workshop and whoever owns FTL

this game is ugly but the battles are pretty good. i have mixed feelings about the lack of unit exp.

Their promo art is quite literally just 40K AI prompts. The main image for the game is a Chaos Space Marine and there is no way they or anyone else can pretend it isn't. This is peak anti-soul

They literally stole the code from the actual FTL.

based
just played the demo btw, it's good and a great expansion on basic FTL concepts

Does it display the inexplicable horrors of warp travel?

it's called sampling

and space marines got darth vader helmets when their take on chunky stormtroopers wasnt as popular as they hoped.

Somewhat. You can get events where your hull suddenly gets breached, your systems are damaged, and there's a shitton of demons onboard.

proofs?

It's obvious if you play the demo and I could swear they used to describe the game as a mod, flat out.

It's obvious

Show proofs.

does nothing but spam undead and blood thralls

into the enemy's ship

mind control the strongest enemy

have them rape the rest of their ship

most of the time kill all the crew

very rarely the undead end up damaging the ship enough to destroy it before the last crew member dies

when that happens I simply laugh as my little blood thralls spin off into the vacuum of space

Amazing game. FTLbros we're so back.

lmao how did this make it onto steam, its just an FTL mod

The proof is the game itself. It obviously wasn't written from the ground up because everything down to the menus behave exactly identically to FTL itself. Someone who had written a game from scratch would not have gotten an end product that felt exactly identical to FTL down to the menus, unit movement, gameplay system, etc. It simply is FTL.

Show the actual proofs.

To put it in other words, it is not any one thing that makes me say, "This is literally stolen FTL code" it's everything together.
