mpv has a million frontends that can make it look and function similar to potplayer. fooyin has tagging too so not sure what you're on about but i use tauon anyway, spectacle/hyprshot can perform screenshot tasks/save to directory/upload somewhere/record something, what else are they lacking? not going to comment on irfan since it's not like there's much variance in programs that display a fucking jpeg for you to coom to.

There's a ~50 bucks dongle to run your psvr2 on a pc. Works great and the only thing you miss out on is re4vr... Which is probably one of the best things to play in vr. On the other hand not even the pro maxes out the specs of the psvr2 since they mostly forgot to do updates for vr games.

Tradeoff is that the lenses are finicky and want a very specific fit to work well which makes a pad upgrade madatory. But for 450 bucks with motes, pc dongle and better pads it's amazing.

Most of this memory is used as "VRAM" by the GPU, it's not split 50/50.

So, effectively, a base PS5 has more or less the same amount of VRAM as a 3080, maybe a bit more. The Pro has definitely more.

nobody can ever point to a single specific problem because linux doesn't have single specific problems. What it has are a million different niggling issues like your wifi dropping out, or a program just failing to launch, or your desktop being set up by default wrong, and every time a problem happens to you or someone else it's almost novel, yet there is this consistency to it. You will eventually have a problem in linux that requires dedicated 2-3 days of your time (minimum) just to get something critical to fucking work.

It's not as though people don't want to get away from windows. A whole easy to use operating system that's free and runs better and doesn't spy on me, what's the catch?

The catch is that this free operating system shits itself constantly and you need to spend enormous amounts of time diagnosing and fixing these problems instead of doing what you planned to do that day.

For me, the last one was spending 3 days figuring out/updating my desktop environment - the normal way to update via the built in update manager didn't work because the update manager would just freeze. Ok, easy fix, I'll update through the command line. LMAO if only it were so easy. It's linux, of course not.

The command line update only partially updated my desktop environment for no explicable reason, and I wound up with the update only partially installed. That's fine, DE is fucked but I can use the CLI. So I go to delete all the files relating to the desktop environment and just reinstall it from scratch. NO, of COURSE it's not that easy. TURNS OUT you can't delete files that are held because of an update or some such bullshit. I found a way to manually delete it anyway but it required typing out every single individual file that needed deleting and entering the relevant command to do this and there were several hundred, maybe several thousand files.

Just said fuck it and reformatted.

Go for the 9070XT if you're intending to play new games. RX5000-RX7000 were a stopgap series of cards that seemed sensible at the time but their primitive software features and poor RT performance is making them age poorly. Hell the "fine wine" term was often said about Radeon GPUs as if they somehow get better over time, but in reality all it meant is that they initially released with shit drivers and gradually over time the drivers unfucked themselves, improving performance.

However this situation has largely been fixed in the last few gens. The last card that caused massive driver issues was my 5700XT, fuck that piece of shit.

Would've saved me a lot of time to just reformat to begin with but I wanted to try and actually fix it first. Chatgpt actually got more frustrated and angry that nothing it suggested worked than I did lmao. I'm used to linux shitting itself and it was on my laptop so it didn't impact me too much.

But this is about the fifth or sixth time I've had to reformat a linux install because it fucks up for no reason, whether it's an update (it's usually an update that causes problems) or just some random bullshit (had my entire filesystem destroy itself somehow from just closing the lid and then opening it again) it's consistently some bullshit that needs all stop do nothing else hours of fixing/tinkering every 3 months (except when I ONLY use the laptop for browsing the internet, then it works fine - just don't fucking touch anything else or install anything else).

I stick with windows not because I like windows, and not because I don't understand linux (I know linux better than I know windows, because I waste so much of my fucking time fixing it). No I stick with windows because shit doesn't get in my way when I use windows. I've got more uptime and everything just works.

I've had my desktop 12 years, upgraded from Win 7 to Win 10, the same fucking SSD this whole time, even switched through different motherboards, and I have never had windows shit itself like linux has shit itself in all that time. Meanwhile my linux laptop has at least 1 catastrophic reformat-everything failure each year I've had it, across multiple different distros - mint, debian, kde neon, suse, kali, it virtually doesn't matter.
