Might have something to do with an 80 dollar 10 hour game with RTX required, a completely shit story that goes against everything everyone loved about Doom and Doomguy (yeah, I know, the Slayer is a different guy starting with Shiternal), in a game that centers on parrying, has poor movement, and shit level design that is the "empty open field" equivalent of Shiternals "boring linear hallways with shit platforming punctuated by boring fucking arenas." Shart Phages is pretty much everything that most of the fans of Doom doesn't want from a Doom game; those who either just think Doomguy is "heckin' cool" no matter what form he takes, and just want to shoot shit and don't really care about IP/franchise cohesion are less bothered.
That might have something do with it. Probably mostly the 80 dollars for a 10 hour game that requires RTX and therefore a higher end card to get decent frame rates. If it had been 30 dollars it probably would have broken sales records even with the RTX requirement, but people are tired of being bilked.
