Why did the Star Wars sequels get barely any games while the prequels spawned many dozens?

Why did the Star Wars sequels get barely any games while the prequels spawned many dozens?

Nu Wars is dogshit

The OG trilogy and the prequels are kino

because the prequels are the only good star wars movies.

The sequel setting is just the original setting but worse
The prequels had a really cool war between robots and clones with lots of jedi running around fighting

The prequels existed at a time where plenty game consoles existed and there was actual hype for Star Wars. The sequels have no hype and only Lego games based on them could succeed.

This.
A bajillion movies and series later, and they still haven't beaten Duel of the Fates during the Darth Maul fight.

Disney is just not as liberal as old lucas arts when it comes to their canon.
Back in the day you had devs making up the most crazy plots centered around Kyle Katarn which resulted in fun as hell videogames.
Now if you're limited to a redo of the original series, have to use the boring main trio and have to show Kylo Ren as a badass villain then things are a lot harder

what if we made the original trilogy... but worse?

Yeah, no wonder no one wanted any games.

Kids actually liked the prequels, young anakin was a big selling point. They should have copied the prequel formula without the politics shit instead of the original formula.

Do a little white boy and a little black boy star wars saga and it would have hit big even if the movies were as bad as the sequel trilogy.

Boomers and Gen X'ers shat their pants with the original trilogy

Gen X'ers and millennials absolutely love the prequels

The sequels are too dogshit not even zoomers and the most diehard of SW fans want it

That fight is shit

The prequels are fucking dogshit movies but a perfect setting for videogames and they introduced tons and tons of great art design. The sequels go out of their way to make the galaxy look gay and tiny and introduce almost no new art at all.

There are people who watch movies with the music on instead of muting the music track

EA hogging the license for more than a decade doomed the videogame franchise.

The sequel movies are all terrible and Yidsney knows it hence why they keep churning out episode 2.5, 3.5 slop.

That fight is basically the only star wars related media that's worth watching.

I guess this sounded better in your head?

EA exclusivity

EA is retarded

Also Star wars turned to shit

Because fuck the fans, make everything trans. Replace all the men with women and replace all the women with trannies.

Its what i came to understand in my late 30s. As a teen when the prequels came out i hate them, now they are my favorite piece of SW media

It's not even the best action scene in the movie, despite the movie being shit

it still amazes me how disney fucked up the entire lucas world of ips so badly.

Disney unironically killed Star Wars.

Star Wars 7 butchered the lore and the expanded universe by throwing out the book lore, reversing the character development of the core cast and keeping the Empire vs Rebels motiff

Episode 8 had a nonsensical plot and it character assassinated Luke beyond repair for the sake of subversion and shock value

Episode 9 was just a fucking horrendous movie that didn't even make any sense. It also killed the Skywalker bloodline...

Then Disney released a shitton of fucking awful shows about the IP.

And now, literally no one cares about Star Wars even though before 2014 it was the biggest Sci Fi Ip of all time. It's actually incredible how Disney killed such a powerful and influential IP in a decade

/thread

Thankfully I never watched Star Wars as they came out, so watching the series recently, it was incredibly obvious as a first time watcher that the original movies suck ass.
I haven't watched the new movies, and frankly I'm not looking forward to them because Disney.

I still don't understand Disney's 4D chess moves here. Is it part of the global demoralization you guys talk about?

Because george was smart and realized that the prequels would have no staying power without other media built around it.
The entire point of the clone wars multimedia project was to push out as much clone wars stuff as possible to get people to care about the era.
Disney didn't do this.

Disney didn't do this.

Because no one cares about it. The butchery of Luke, Leia, and Han pissed off the old fans. And their choice to redo the Empire vs Rebels pissed off EU fans because Disney actively choose to ignore 40+ years of lore beloved by fans for a poorly written rehash of A New Hope, which also retroactively shat upon the happy ending of The Return of the Jedi.

Nah, this time they're just fucktarded. TFA tried too hard to say "you hated the Prequels so we're going to stay the fuck away from that, we'll just remake the OT" and then TLJ overcorrected because people weren't enthused by how 'safe' TFA was. And by that point they had irreparably damaged the franchise with their idiocy, so Episode IX didn't matter. They threw a Hail Mary with Palpatine and said fuck it.

it character assassinated Luke beyond repair

You say that when his last defining act before death was helping others without swinging a blade. Sounds exactly like Luke.

His character wasn't assassinated because he redeemed himself in the end.

Really?

George pushed out clone wars content before the trilogy was done while everyone was shitting on the movies. Nobody cared about the era until it was properly fleshed out by brute force.
Disney could've done the same, but they didn't.

Dangerously based.

Yes?
Imagine saying that Anakin didn't care about his family because he caused padme's death, even though he saved his son in the end. That would be retarded.

You say that when his last defining act before death was helping others without swinging a blade. Sounds exactly like Luke.

No, that's not what I'm talking about.
I'm talking about how he abandoned his family, his friends, his students, and the galaxy for literal decades. How am I supposed to believe this is the same Luke who went on a suicide mission against a galactic empire to save a girl he didn't even know? How am I supposed to believe this is the same man who willingly walked into a trap to face the second most deadly man (Vader) in the entire galaxy to save his friends? How am I supposed to believe this is the same man who challenged one of the most powerful gangsters (Jabba) in the galaxy to save his friend? And how am I supposed to believe this is the same man who would rather be tortured to death than strike down his father?
Likewise, Luke's lashing out at Kylo is completely out of character. Luke was able to restrain himself from attacking Vader even though Vader was a mass murdering monster, and Sidious was actively to corrupt Luke. And yet you expect me to believe that Luke got up, walked into his nephews room, drew his sword, and then stood over him contemplating whether he should kill him? That's not Luke.
That would be like Harry Potter becoming a Death Eater, or Aragorn joining Sauron, or Guts joining the Godhand. It's something completely antithetical to Luke's character arc. It's a active REGRESSION of the man's character development. And for what? Shock value?

What game could you make exactly? There's no space for extra Jedi or Sith

If George put in a scene of Anakin standing over Padme in their bedroom as he contemplated murdering her, I'd be confused.

I really need to find some good AI model for celeb genning. I don't do it much but every once in a while you want a sweaty Rey or something and I haven't got one that's very good at it

So by your logic, it's fine to undo all of a character's character development off screen and turn them into someone whose completely out of character from their portrayal in prior entries so as long as the character "redeems" themselves before they die?
If we adhere to your logic, JK Rowling could write an 8th book about Harry Potter where Harry becomes Voldemort 2.0. Afterall, Harry had anger issues, a piece of Voldemort's soul in him, and he was a half blood like Voldemort. So, logically, Harry should become an evil racist that's nothing like his original character, right? It's all good as long as Harry redeems himself in the end, right?
That's what you sound like.

I find it funny how everything barely relevant they're putting out is filling in the blanks for PT/OT stuff. Nobody gives a single shit about Sequel lore and the surroundings of it.

The worst part is the entire reason Disney dumped 4billion dollarydoos on the franchise was they wanted to appeal to the boys market, only to make all the male characters shit and the main star is a shitty female mary sue.

The *music* is phenomenal, but that fight is undeniable garbage.

I thought it was neato when Maul uses the Force to fling that metal debris from the floor to smash the door panel and open the door as he retreats from Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan.

A lot of that is explained by general jadedness for his mistakes and failures or the years we don't see him.

Did you actually pay attention to what was shown? Because he was not seriously considering going through with it. It was a fleeting moment of weakness.

A lot of that is explained by general jadedness for his mistakes and failures or the years we don't see him.

Correct. They character assassinated him to make him act in a way that was incompatible with the character shown in the original trilogy.
Luke hit rock bottom MULTIPLE times in the original trilogy. He had to cope with the murder of his adoptive parents, with being the last Jedi, with going against a galactic empire, with being forced to face the two deadliest men in the world with minimal training, with having his best friend frozen alive and taken hostage, with knowing that his father was mass murderer with a kill count in the literal thousands (or trillions if you count the death star).
So it's preposterous for you to sit here and claim that Luke is gonna sit there and abandon the entire galaxy and his FAMILY because he had a bad dream.

b-but the Dark side made him almost kill Rylo

First. This is a regression of Luke's second character arc where we saw him resist it in the Return of the Jedi.
Second. Luke would've made amends to Kylo even if we do play devil's advocate. If he could restrain himself and re-establish a bond with a mass murderer like Vader, then why couldn't he do so with his nephew hadn't even committed a sin yet?

It was a fleeting moment of weakness

That shouldn't have existed at all...

Soulless. Also

The prequels tried to make the world larger that it was, expanding on its history, geography and institution. That made it easi to build upon and develop further.
The sequels shrank it and made it about the same dynamic again, all about the same people and family.

Rogue One was the only good thing that came out of Disney's ass

To this day I still can't believe that this one movie knee capped the entire franchise so hard. It's going to take another decade for it to recover at this point. They didn't even have any interesting battles or games to fall back on. Now most Disney Star Wars media takes place during the imperial era or The Clone Wars. You know, the eras that actually accentuate the WARS part of Star Wars. How do you possibly fuck up this bad?
Well I guess that answers my question. But still, how did nobody, not ONE person, take a moment to step back and say (but what if this is gonna fucking suck)?
The whole thing is so retarded I can understand why some people think this was a deliberate plot to sink a beloved western franchise because ultimately that sounds like it would make more sense than what actually happened.

The moment they started adding women, browns, blacks that aren't Lando in military positions it was ogre

Star Wars worked because Leia and Mon Mothma were the only girls, the Empire were all men

Disney then starts adding in brown, blacks and women in military positions

If they really wanted to add more women, the Jyn girl from Rogue One should have been casted as Luke's future wife (making her the 'Mara Jade') but then they killed her off and gave her a bland love interest

I hope you know most normal people think people like you are stupid and weird. I hope you grow out of this some day.

The moment they started adding women, browns, blacks that aren't Lando in military positions it was ogre

Mace Windu was white all along

I agree. Although I watched TFA when it first came out and thought it was "okay" but I never really took it seriously as a true continuation of the story. Just a weird "what if" movie. I liked the Bad Batch until they started character assassinating EU characters.

why disney chose three different directors instead of settling for just one is mind boggling

Leia, Mon Mothma, and Padme were all in positions of power and military leaders

Surprised there isn't a Dindu spinoff

Bait used to be good

They haven't made Windu: A Star Wars Story streaming only on Disney+... yet.

Should have done this instead of the trash sequel slop

because game development is a broken and dying industry where everything costs way too much to money and takes ways too much time to develop, without ever having much to show for it.

prequels, as messy as they are, come from a specific creative mind with a strong visual identity.
the sequels are just a corruption of the ot. think of what was accomplished. palpatine is dead, the last surviving jedi is tasked with rebuilding the order.
people shit on 8, rightfully, but to me 7 did far, far, far more damage, since it literally only exists to reset the status quo, undoing everything luke fought for. i am baffled people didn't completely eviscerate it for that. and they say 8 is the one that "ruined star wars"

very good point, ive never thought about it that way

mfw "this will begin to make things right" is the first spoken line of TFA; in reference to the Prequels

It's actually crazy that they had the exclusive right to make Star Wars games and we got like... 2 shitty multiplayer-only games.

the issue is that hollywood started "marvelizing" movie production. they think a succesful part of the formula is a different director each movie but don't care about what director they put nor do they care to still have a series manager who keeps things consistent. so you get the tonal shift from jar jar abrams to johnson, two directors who couldn't be more different in style (i actually kinda "like" ep8, it's the only movie that's interesting to talk about, jar jar is the most soulless, talentless husk hollywood ever produced)

I think people are going to watch it

Even a 12 episode, 2-season Sheev and the daily life of Darth Vader doing Empire things

Hershlag is too invested in Israel to ever bother with Star Wars again and she's actually the worst link in the prequels outside of bad George writing

What's most impressive is how they cannot handle having a good thing without ruining it.
The handling of The Mandalorian is just top notch bs.

have simple, small scale show

every episode is basically a western archetype story IN SPACE (jailbreak, protect the farm, find the kid's parents etc)

everyone likes it

renew it

tie it back into the big overarching plotlines

pick the worst part of the Clone Wars to do that with

I can't wait to see how they'll botch an Andor follow-up next.

It's simply that 7 is a good movie. It set the stage for everything horrible that happened, but it was good. People left the theater happy.

Having menopausal women running the ship definitely didn't help

Even a 12 episode, 2-season Sheev and the daily life of Darth Vader doing Empire things

Honestly, the imperial wagie parts of Andor were great so I'd watch that

7 is a good movie

It's a shallow aping of a decent movie in that it is Star Wars (1977) with prettier special effects and worse characters.

It's a shallow aping of a decent movie

A...glib facsimile, you could say? Well, even a copy of Star Wars can have a little of the original's magic. 7 was FAR from perfect, almost everything about Han was awful, but other than that it was a solid movie. Very solid.

but to me 7 did far, far, far more damage, since it literally only exists to reset the status quo, undoing everything luke fought for

Yup.
Return of the Jedi implied that Han would give up his smuggling life, become a war hero, marry Leia, and become a family man. The Force Awakens shits all over that. Him and Leia didn't work out, his family is a shitshow, and he's back to being a smuggler except this time he's a total failure at it.

The Resistance? What a fucking joke. The rebels literally won the war and took over the galaxy. The empire either shouldn't exist or it should be so fragmented and weakened that it's barely a threat. Yet the director was so lazy that the Empire not only exists, but is still thriving, which means the Return of the Jedi was pointless since the heroes FAILED to do anything to stop the Empire.

What especially irks me about the "Resistance" is the Sequel writers trying to have their cake and eat it. According to the Sequel trilogy lore, the Rebels DID establish a new republic following the "defeat" of the Empire. But the new republic grew complement and refused to acknowledge that the Empire still existed. Which makes ZERO sense considering the previous global republic FELL BECAUSE THEY DIDNT TAKE THE EMPIRE SERIOUSLY. So Leia has to form a new "resistance" to fight the Empire. What a joke. Its a blatantly lazy way to reskin the rebel underdogs versus the evil empire.

Luke? This thread already covers how they completely and utterly shat on his character.

The New Jedi Order? Off-screened so the writers can follow A New Hope verbatim down to Rey being the last hope of the galaxy

millennials loved prequels

debatable, they weren't considered as "great" as the original trilogy (yes RotJ gets a free pass here), see muh RLM Plinkett review bullshit but at least they were soulful and old man George Lucas's crazy unfiltered ideas. But nowadays everyone will agree they're better then the sequel trilogy

jabba.jpg - 512x377, 39.91K

i knew the movies were going to be shit as soon as they started with the

we're not the prequel guyz

it's competently shot and put together, abrams can do that very well, but that retard doesn't have a creative idea in his head and still thinks not answering shit is deep and cool. he is a complete hack propped entirely by his sugar daddy spielberg
but the movie is still shit, it still completely undoes everything that was accomplished in the ot story wise. it's a completely useless movie that at best is like jiggling keys for two hours.
i think people were just too hyped for a new star wars movie for them to have critical thoughts over it. probably why 8 got shat on so hard, people had woken up by then (that and disney would never let a jew take the blame for their fuckups)

Yet the director was so lazy that the Empire not only exists, but is still thriving

This was pretty fucking bad, but the movie just didn't explain it, which almost made it better because you could at least pretend there was an explanation.

Also, how funny is it that the writers had to think of a name for their evil empire, so they named it the First Order. It's like an adlib of the Third Reich.

I think that in a vacuum, redoing Episode 4 because you're a gutless coward too afraid to try something new would indeed produce a 'fine' movie.
The bigger problem with TFA is that in context, it pisses all over the OT so that it can hit that reset switch. That makes it bad. Garbage in fact.

Only the boomers hated the prequels, those who grew up with TPM to RotS are the main Star Wars fans even today.

1999-2005 was the peak of the IP. Spergs crying about the movies were merely a blip on the radar.

What was loved about the prequels weren't the movies but all the extended material they allowed. No one liked Attack of the Clones but many loved KOTOR or Battlefront, even the podracer game.

no mara jade

luke died a schizo pussy

the prequels were my childhood, it's hard for me to hate on them when I can still remember seeing the battle with anakin and obi-wan in theaters with my friends and thinking it was the coolest shit

a virgin loser who wrecked his sister's family and abandoned the galaxy rather than a babe slaying uberman with a happy extended family and thriving Jedi Order

No one liked Attack of the Clones

nothing

right on the money
for me it's how snoke came from fucking nowhere and is never explained (no i am not gonna take the third movie retcon as a satisfying answer) and how the remnants of the empire somehow built and even betterer death star that can blow up a whole solar system
there wasn't a single ounce of creativity in the sequels, not even an attempt to have a logical followup to the sixth movie. everything went back to square 1 because people hated the prequels and memberberries are the only thing they cared about

All Disney had to do was make a trilogy of movies about the old cast reuniting to fight a new threat, followed up by them passing the torch to the next generation, which would've ideally been their kids. Disney didn't even have to be creative with the plot considering there was over thirty years of material for them to draw from via the EU.

Cokehead Fisher couldn't carry a movie by then and Disney would be damned before making a man the main character of their movie trilogy.

Look into Postmodernism. Sincerity is dead, you can't have a movie about the forces of good fighting evil and making the world a better place, you have to subvert meaning, itself, and create a void where nothing is substantial, everything is attacked with words until you can't form a thought, anymore.

Why did the Star Wars sequels get barely any games while the prequels spawned many dozens?

EA. EA is why.
For the prequels, the combination of lucasfilm games pumping out games while the licensed the IP out to anyone that wanted to pay for it was what helped the prequels. The sequels were during the period where EA owned excusive rights to the license. Disney's game studios not being able to use it, and no one else was able to buy a license to make the games.

Hire Sebastian Stan and BDH
Ben Skywalker is played by the Cal Cestis guy

Hire three Disney nobodies to play Jacen, Jaina and Anakin

1. Movies were bad and nobody cares
2. Disney isn't making the effort to have more games made
3. Game development has gotten more stunted and it's harder for new games to come out frequently

RLM is directly responsible for the state of the sequels

how does that make you feel?

older millennials read the Thrawn/Jedi Academy/NJO novels, played Shadows of the Empire and the classic Lucasarts vidyas but were slightly too old for the first kiddie targeted Clone Wars shows.

Uh, no. IV, V and III. Everything else is trash.

I do distinctly remember yearning for a Star Wars game after Episode 7. It really was the time to strike while the iron was hot. Just the next movie made me not care about the IP at all.

The prequels needed their own Empire at War

IV, V, and III are the best, then VI, II, and I, then VII in it's own category of not really the same franchise but an okay movie, then 8 and 9, I guess. Never saw 9 or anything SW after Last Jedi.

why did he kill mara jade?

Disney would never approve of Darth Talon

I think 8 was perfectly fine. In fact, I think it was one of the better ones. Which isn't saying much since I can't stand the movies, but I love some of the games. I never saw 9, but again that was largely a function of me being uninterested in the movies.
As an aside, I know people fucking love KOTOR, but man, once you get to that planet where you finally become a jedi, I lose ALL interest. I've tried to play the game on three different occasions one being at release. I just could never get into it.

I think I might read the EU stuff now. Never did before. Might actually get me back into Star Wars if I just pretend nothing after III happened.

Darth Talon if she a black lesbian who don't need no man

I think 8 was perfectly fine. In fact, I think it was one of the better ones

I think it really pulled back the curtain to reveal the new trilogy had no plan, at all. Which really surprised people. And not only that, but the directors were like using their movies to fight about what Star Wars means. Really odd stuff.

The sequels had anti-worldbuilding that undid everything before it.

dood what if it's just empire vs rebels again, even though the republic is supposed to be back, but theres a group called the resistance and the empire is somehow more powerful than the republic, but theyre also a tiny group and the resistance is also a tiny group even though the republic is back so they should have a gigantic army by now

Jedi Order? Nah Luke fucked off to a remote world lolmao

Literally nothing about it makes any fucking sense and it would be impossible to set vidya in that hellscape. It's not Star Wars.

The way to do the New Republic and the First Order is actually fairly simple in retrospect
Make a trilogy designed to show the origins, rise and fall of the First Order

In EP7 they're still a fringe group, but one that is on everyone's minds, and the New Republic is shown as not just existing but having successfully taken the place of the Empire
However they have failings, bureaucratic inefficiency has allowed raiders to increase their activity, and a large amount of planets never truly got on board with the program after the fall of the Empire and the New Republic could never decide on a course of action, so they both threatened and never followed up on those threats

You don't have to elaborate prequel style on that, just have Rey's homeworld/starting world be one such functionally independent planet, have her deal with raiders, maybe even do a thing where the raiders are chased off by a First Order ship, since their whole deal would be at this point offering an alternative to inefficiency: order in exchange for freedom

Now interesting part is here, that you can KEEP the Starkiller base plotline, but used in a completely different way
Starkiller base is a superweapon who's construction was started by Palpatine and which fell in the hands of the New Republic who then despite Leia's insistence, kept it around and secretly finished it just in case

Now course, the First Order gains control over it, and fires it, but here is where things go different, they don't fire it on Republican homeworlds, they fire it on the capital worlds of the species/groups that "refuse to get along with the program" in a false flag attack meant to shatter the New Republic

You should read

Labyrinth of Evil

the novelization of Episode III

Dark Lord: The Rise of Darth Vader

as a trilogy of books. It's a good idea.

I think I might read the EU stuff now.

The Darth Bane trilogy is gigakino

Your plan doesn't emulate underdog Rebels vs stronk Empire and thus does not please the Mouse.

How much do you care about jedi and the force in general? Because that can massively affect your enjoyment of the movies. I'm one of the few people who don't give a fuck about lightsaber shit in this franchise.

Nuance? What is this, the prequels?! Someone get this pipsqueak outta here.

this also offers a much more reasonable origin for the rebellion: they're the combination of the die-hard republicans and old rebellion members who started out as a political faction under Leia that did a lot of good work during the early republic but gradually got worked out of power by the increasingly more corrupt career politicians
They joined forces with the young reformers who see what's wrong with the New Republic but have no real political capital left and have gradually shifted into a more paramilitary role in a way similar to the First Order (at this point) though decidedly more republican, offering protection in exchange for representation )

Now the climax of Ep7 could be (in a retread of Ep4, but at this point that was always going to happen) the First Order, again as a false flag operation, aim Starkiller Base this time at all the worlds affiliated with the "Rebellion" and the Rebellion working together with the New Republic navy to capture starkiller base
Though here you can have a bit more pathos in that several rebellion worlds are destroyed and that instead of finishing the First Order off, the Rebellion and New Republic get into a standoff themselves over the Rebellion wanting to destroy the base and the New Republic wanting to merely take control over it

this post has been fact checked by the confederacy of independent systems

I think it really pulled back the curtain to reveal the new trilogy had no plan, at all. Which really surprised people. And not only that, but the directors were like using their movies to fight about what Star Wars means. Really odd stuff.

All of that was fine. It was a movie about sacrifice and the bonds people have with each other making them stronger, especially when things are dire. The antithesis of the dark side or whatever. Perfectly fine for a star wars movie, but that's not saying much. At the end of the day star wars revolves around genetic destiny space wizards, which hampers it as much as it helps it.
That's exactly it and I know that's it, I don't care about jedi and force shit at all. I'm sure you can play other star wars archetypes in the game, but it just didn't hold me, and seeming like they were forcing me down that path stripped my interest.
Dark Forces and Dark Forces II hold a special place in my heart. I fucking loved X-wing vs Tie fighter and rogue squadron games. There is a lot of star wars shit I like, just not the jedi stuff.

Because they didn't make many games, full stop. EA completely squandered their exclusivity and even with that over, it still takes YEARS to make games these days. Back in the prequel days, you could fart them out in a year flat.

At the end of the day star wars revolves around genetic destiny space wizards

And everything Episode 8 said about those space wizards was really bad.

Not worse than Episode 1, 2, or 4. I'd even say it was better than 6.

8 specifically assassinated Luke's character.

8's ending was such a colossal waste of not just the movie but the entire trilogy it deserves to be in a category of it's own

assassinated Luke's character.

Oh my fucking god, not this nonsense again. Characters are allowed to get disillusioned. Didn't he also flirt with dark side shit in the expanded universe? Even removing that from the equation, and focusing on the original movies. The only thing we really know about Luke is he loves the shit out of his dad and was willing to die for that. In 8 he came full circle pulling an obi-wan. Except, he realized, actually, I love the shit out of all these people! I can't believe you guys have me talking about this dogshit series of movies. That's on me, I do this to myself every fucking time. It's just patently obvious to me that star wars fans don't GET star wars.

But still, how did nobody, not ONE person, take a moment to step back and say (but what if this is gonna fucking suck)?

It's because none of the people in charge actually know what they're doing, they have a useless business degree that taught them how to buy and sell, but none of that tells you how to operate media franchises, so they just pump more money into it and listen to market data.

Similarly, I'd say you could make Luke abandonning the Jedi work if you gave it time and played it more consistently within the context of the previous events.
There is a pretty fair argument as to the world being safer without the Jedi as an institution, especially if there are no more Sith around with the two last ones having failed to continue the lineage. Without the threat of the Sith, the Jedi are not necessary as a protection. And without the institution of the Jedi, the Force users would be lesser in their potential since they would have no knowledge of what they can and cannot do as well as how to train to reach their full potential.
Luke having spent a lot of time and effort into dismantling an empire might also conclude from researching what the Jedi Order was as an institution that it really should not be recreated as it would very likely fall back into the state it was in during the last days of the Republic. When you fought against unchecked, unaccountable power, you might not want to replace it with another structure of unchecked, unaccountable power. When looking at what the Jedi as an institution did and how poorly it interacted with political powers, it's pretty reasonable to conclude that the Order really should not exist.
You could even follow the door left open of "the neutral way of the Force, neither Light nor Dark" and recreate the Jedi as secluded monastic orders as opposed to the previous "state within the state" Order, and have Luke's conflict be on whether or not this isolation ought to be broken when a threat requires the help of the Jedi thus re-opening the can of worms that started this whole mess. If the Jedi become this ever-neutral entity that lives in isolation and THAT becomes the way the Force is used in the galaxy then the world is protected from the dangers of the Jedi AND the Sith since neither would be able to exist in that context.

Even as a kid i didn't care as much about the jedi as the clones. Found them much cooler as i like sci fi militaries.

Oh and what does this mean for the sequel era in general?
Well simple, rather than a timeskip of days from ep7 to ep8, it's a timeskip of years
The shots fired between the New Republic and the Rebellion, the destruction of Starkiller Base and the escape of the First Order fleet were all just the opening shots of the Great Galactic Civil War and with it the slow disintegration of the republic in various smaller polities and the ascendancy of certain other groups, such as the newly styled Hutt Empire and most importantly the meteoric rise of the First Order

To keep in theme with the Ep8 we got, the Rebellion, having lost several planets in the climax of Ep7, have gone almost entirely nomadic, with giant fleets roaming the galaxy, offering protection to smaller planets, relief effort, evacuation of refugees and what not and being just about the only group that is entirely united against the First Order, rather than giving over to petty rivalries, and course the First order seeks to wipe them all out
And in the backdrop of all of this there is Luke, and what finally "breaks" Luke is that his new Jedi Order hasn't remained united, but rather splintered just as much as the New Republic, and now wars are fought with Jedi on both sides and he feels all the pain

And well, THIS is the era you set all the videogames in

new_republic.png - 1903x1091, 213.82K

I enjoyed in early Genndy Wars when the Jedi wore clone armor beneath robes as they fought alongside their clone armies. What a GOATed aesthetic.

8's ending was a colossal waste because not only didn't it make sense both within it's own movie and the star was faction as a whole, but it blew up just about anything interesting about the sequels for anyone to actually CARE about

AND it basically made making Ep9 impossible because it cut off every single story thread 7 had built up

Even if it was fine as a standalone movie, as movie 2 in a trilogy it was BEYOND TERRIBLE

SAAAAR PLS LIKE SEQUEL BECAUSE VAGENE MAKE COOM

Kys

Problem isn't Luke being fallible, it's that it made him seem really weak in the process, abandonning his principles, his family and the idea of the Jedi because ONE apprentice was tempted by the dark side, something he must have known would eventually happened since he himself had been tempted by both Palpatine and his own father.
Not because he should always be an all-defeating, never doubting force, but because giving up at the first hurdle goes against the determination and abnegation we've seen him grow during the OT.
It would have been one thing if it had turned out that he was a bad master due to his own lack of leadership and having to figure out a lot on his own, it would have been one thing if restarting the Jedi had been too much for just one man and he found himself overwhelmed and let some of his apprentices slip through the cracks. But it's another thing to deny the qualities that the OT existed to show him develop.

Anon you should maybe try KOTOR 2. Your character is an ex-Jedi that deliberately cut themselves off from the force, and you can totally roleplay that you don't ever pick up a lightsaber again. You can play the whole game with blasters/swords/unarmed and are never forced to join the Jedi Order like in 1. I won't lie though, the force is a huge theme of the game, but maybe not in the ways you'd expect.
Also, fuck you, the Jedi and Sith are the best part of Star Wars, you're gay as fuck lmao.

Then why did Leia ask Luke's Piloting Ability to return to the Resistance cruiser with the slow ass bombers who would never have made it back before the dreadnought blue it up instead of continuing the attack run on it?

It didn't hurt that lucas made phantom menace exactly like a video game.
The entire movie was laid out like one from start to finish. Made transition easy.

Mostly, yeah. There are a couple salvagable parts in it, like when the shutters close and Maul is pacing back and forth with that look on his face like a caged, starving animal staring down prey on the other side.
But then you remember moments like the kenobi head fake.

I felt like the whole thing would've gone down better if they'd made a bigger thing about the fact, that the one student he fucked up royally with, happened to be his nephew.
Like, the guilt and disilusionment should've been heavily about letting down family, and not so much a jedi thing. I mean, the poor bastard's own aunt and uncle were murdered, and he thought he was basically orphened until he found out his real dad was a deadbeat psycho slasher and finally lost him for real.
Han, Leia, and Ben should've been fucking everything to him after that point.

Even down to the racing minigame in the middle of the main quest.

The SACRED JEDI TEXTS

I-I skimmed them

page turners, they are not

Are you serious?

Prequels had incredible aesthetics, the extended universe's DND In Space style that the sequels leaned into just looks really awful and doesn't inspire any desire to be a part of it

I've got a question Anon Babble, Do you think the Sequel Trilogy is more digestible/better with the Lego Skywalker Saga? I completed the Original Trilogy 2 weeks ago, and i still have this question in my head.

file.jpg - 1600x900, 198.21K

7 plays alright by virtue of the film being decently paced but the sequels are a complete slog in that game

niggas died to get you the deets on palpatine's second death star and you're still hating

They didn't make many games because what were they to make that wasn't going to pour gas on the fire. Remember when they revealed the new Batttlefront game? The live audience popped off for Darth Maul and went quiet for Rey. You don't make products that nobody wants, not unless you want to lose money and waste time.

All the nu games have just been post-prequel and pre-OT games like Cal Kestus' two, and for very obvious reasons. Had the sequels not sucked, we'd be whining about EA milking the IP

what did george mean by this?

watto.jpg - 430x267, 24.73K

He uses the gas in his belly to fly, he's not fat - Goerge Lucas

All they had to do was validate the Darth Jar Jar meme and the sequels would have been kino.

jar jar using palpatines corpse as a puppet

sequels had 0.8 jedi and 0.01 sith

sequels' big war was one paramilitary org vs. one defunct govt. agency

prequels had 10 brazillion jedi and 3.5 sith

prequels' big war was a gigantic hyperpower secessionist movement

gee, I wonder why one is better setting for vidya and stories in general

Because Disnep is being anal about its retarded nu-canon and jewish with its licensing

Know the difference. It'll save you a lot of time.

The characters in Phantom Menace really do feel like a party in an RPG.

2858135.jpg - 1558x816, 90.97K

They’re a red herring, so you don’t look at the actual chosen people of Star Wars, the

the prequels are kino

Great

Lucasarts was already dead.

ok boomer

They will cast Debra Wilson

$80 will do fine

RedditLetterMedia should be the strong guy in this post seeing as he totally mindbroke George and destroyed Star Wars.

I won't say they were entirely without flaw, but for the majority of its runtime it had captivating scenes and theatrical tragedy and drama. It's like it's own genre of star wars and while I could never say it's equal to the OT it definitely earns my respect.

Jar Jar

Not that though. Also the Lego games helped me enjoy them better I won't even beat bushes.

Qui-gon + Obiwan vs Maul

Anakin vs Obiwan

Absolute kinoooooooooooooooooo

Because the sequels have literally nothing interesting in them outside of Snoke clones and that is immediately ruined by Sheev being behind it. There is no interesting side content, no interesting world building at all, no interesting characters spoken about by anyone, no interesting concepts. In fact, half the concepts it introduced aren't even though about for more than five seconds like the First Order passes that let you past blockades no questions asked.

Kylo Ren and Finn were the only good parts about the sequel trilogy and they completely destroyed Finn as a character with TLJ's ending. I genuinely can't believe they let Rose "save" him. Kylo and Finn carried those movies on their backs to an insane degree and they're better off wiping TLJ and ROS out of the entire canon to make Finn a Jedi, turn Rey into a Sith, and turn Kylo into a Jedi who convinces the Knights of Ren to come to their senses because what we have now is unsalvageable with Rey.

I'll never understand how RLM got memed into being so important people actually think they did anything at all to star wars. They literally just said what everyone else at the time did.

The sequels' two most notable fan camps are "it had so much potential what went wrong" and Snapewives tying their hair up into Rey buns before setting their Kylo Lightsaber themed toy setting to The Full Power of the Dark Side and creaming to that pasty goblin

Grim. Sad when The Mandorian and Rogue One btfo what's supposed to be a successor trilogy.

They jerked off the sequel trilogy and it turned out to be a massive turd
They should have quit while they were ahead after dunking on the prequels

Yes

There are people who chew their food when they eat

There are people who flush the toilet when they shit

There are people who think before they post like dumbasses

Much to consider

Name 5, I'm sure if they exist they're on the tip of your tongue

I liked The Correllian Trilogy the best of the novels I read back in the day, but I was so young I can't actually vouch for their quality. I do remember there being parts that are tonally at odds with the movies.

Man, I love Star Wars.

Wrong Mike.
Whatever influence you thought you had has completely evaporated and people know now that Lucas was the goat.

Story was shit, but designs and world building was top notch.

the Disney rides and area are actually fun

but they're themed around shit nobody cares about

running away from spooky Kylo who can only stand, walk, or fly menacingly (even accounting for not being about to force choke riders irl)

be a smuggler just like Han Solo! People love Han! Everyone wants to be a smuggler right? But the good and noble legal kind of course. Press the flashing buttons!

they even sell blue and green milk

Motherfucker, they even already had Star Tours with an Endor themed front area, they could've pulled some incredible shit out of the bag of they weren't focused on what's new. Don't even get me started on Avatar land.

'ate luke movies

Fucking how? A chunk of EU is about Luke's life after the OG trilogy and how he avoids the mistakes of the previous Jedi Order by being a competent grandmaster jedi.

I wouldn't say they are good cinema but they have given us so much cool shit

George was only the goat when he had people filtering out his bad ideas. It's painfully clear what naysayers brought to Star Wars. Unfiltered he's almost as bad as Rian. Well... OK, not that bad.

And yet we have plenty of starwars games that don't take their roots in the phantom menace.

Cope mike.

I'M MIKE, LOOK AT ME! BAPBABAP

The prequels are kino

I used the first movie to take a nap to as a kid lol

I'm never prepared for this gem to show up in a thread.

711409864

new thing bad

therefore old shit thing automatically becomes good

Why are you like this?

Bothan deez nuts.

I see we have gotten to the point that zoomers are nostalgic for slop. The prequels sucked dobkey dick, the only reason people remember them fondly is because the sequels were even fucking worse. The only good Star Wars movies are the original trilogy. If you disagree, you are objectively wrong and are almost certainly a zoomer and/or a zero standards normalfaggot.

Based

This. People always have to frame their defense of the prequels with "W-WELL AT LEAST THEY'RE NOT THE SEQUELS!!"
Low bar.

Cringe

Not really.

I'm surprised I was the first to mention it.

Yes:
youtu.be/D_2bluVPsb0

Duel of the Fates is called as that because if Qui Gon trained Anakin he probably wouldn't turn to dark side

KINO

Younger audiences only say they like the prequels because of Clone Wars and the memes.

Tell me more about MUH META-CHLORINES

buzzword as argument

The absolute state

there's nothing interesting to explore within the world set by the sequels
you'll notice all the best ratwars era games and shows occur around the OT

Entire trilogy was thought out from the start, Darth Vader wasn't supposed to be Luke's father in A New Hope for example.

literal bot post

Christ

OT

PT

high concept

ST

retarded execution

ah yes, the reddit theme song

Well... there's a LOT of Lucasarts games. The first to come up would of course be the Star Wars catalog, followed by their Adventure games they were famous for. Most people don't know what a gem Metal Warriors is. I feel like there's a 75% chance I'm the one mentioning it in any given thread.

I'd watch porn of her getting taken down by sand raiders

cringe

Im zoomer and I havent seen a single star wars movie

Favorite Star Wars game Anon Babbleros? Mine is KOTOR 2. I've probably played Jedi Outcast and Academy multiplayer for thousands of hours though.

hopefully the anime will be good.

feel blessed, because you mostly grew up in a dead culture with nothing to mourn to death of.
Focus on real life and being a person instead of vidya.

I haven't seen these. Are they doing more?

2025

Ahsoka is still not dead

The next Death Star could use some of her plot armor.

Production IG are doing an entire season of 9th Jedi for next year.
Also season 3 of Visions coming in October which will also have sequels to Village Bride, The Duel and another 9th Jedi episode.

the worst part about ahsoka isnt that she doesnt die, its that she constantly loses and suffers no repurcussions from any of it
she's been in so many fights over the years, yet at best she....hurts her hand from grabbing a hot object in ahsoka

other characters have been shot, zapped and whatever, and have the scars to prove it
ahsoka is just perfect.

Does that, pink droid have a design to hide her tits? Her nonexistent, smooth, flat, droid tits? Interesting design

Please don't sexualize a trash can on wheels

SWFB2 (2017) is the last game to feature sequel content

EA stops supporting it because of dumb fuck reasons

The sequel trilogy has no appeal.

its poe-ver.jpg - 962x786, 73.32K

It kind of made sense in Clone Wars, there could have been network guideline to respect that state "the heroes don't get hurt because THINK OF THE CHILDREN THERE ARE CHILDREN WATCHING YOU CAN'T SHOW THIS TO THE CHILDREEEEEEN".
But now she keeps appearing everywhere without TV guidelines to follow and still nothing bad ever happens to her because nothing bad EVER happens to her.

Vader should have killed her, it would have been the perfect moment during Rebels
He kills her in anger, but then seeing her corpse snaps him back to reality, letting Anakin come through for the first time in ages as he holds her corpse helping set the state for his eventual redemption

Maybe even have Palpatine contact him and being dismissive about it and just ordering him to dispose of that thing and Vader showing resentment at it

The most effective use of Ahsoka would have been her dying to Vader. Now that the opportunity has been missed she's just in a limbo of major character who does nothing and is nowhere during important events. Whose character developed into a plank of wood.

fpbp /thread
it's literally that shrimple

The OG trilogy is shitty and stale. I only want new games set in the prequel era.

it's such an obvious choice to do so that if she hadn't been Filoni's waifu it absolutely would have happened

Ahsoka was cool when she had that miniskirt-bandeau outfit that showed off her tummy and she was 14. Everything after that is a mistake.

Sterile series just like the sterile main actress that can't act for shit and is a self insert for sexless angry old hags that hate sci-fi, magic, adventure and romance.

Just overall such an abysmal effort by yidsney who itself is an abysmal faggot company

We started here you retard. Myopic gen x morons will never understand that they are exactly the same as millennials who like the prequels but they just experienced a different set of children's films. Grow up and accept your shitty nostalgia films had their time, everyone is sick to death of anything related to them.

What annoys me most is her smug attitude when she never accomplished anything significant in Clone Wars or Rebels. They're trying to treat her as a wise, experienced master like Obi-Wan and it doesn't work.

Whose character developed into a plank of wood.

ahsoka was always a plank of wood, she just had anakin and obi-wan to bounce dialogue back and forth with, ahsoka never really got "independent" focus in TCW unlike say, asajj ventress who developed as a character outside of count dooku
ahsoka needs anakin and obi-wan to be entertaining, her interactions with the rebels cast in rebels was minimal and so she cant connect with them as much, all of this leads to the boring part of her character being exposed

yeah we get it you grew up watching the prequels like everyone else around 30 but were too low IQ to enjoy the OT as well

Sorry but we weren't the ones complaining that politics were too boring to be included in a starwars film. Pretending to be high iq right after sticking crayons up your nose doesn't really work. Everyone knows now that you killed starwars and you did it because you were so fucking stupid you couldn't understand a children's film.

cool they're bringing back Thrawn, an iconic villain of Legends

oh no now he's a scooby doo villain getting outsmarted by them meddling kids

oh no now he's a literal nothingburger, you see losing is actually part of my master plan which I will never actually explain
