Debate me - Dirt Rally 2.0 (Collin McRae DLC) is the hardest game ever

I tried this out recently and it's so obscenely hard that nothing else comes even remotely close. I have begun to think that the controller is just unusable with the game though and maybe that is my issue because when I watch people do it with a wheel they seem able to turn their wheel back and forth much easier without turning too much which is almost unavoidable with a controller. When I do a race it's like I'm driving on ice that makes every move hyper exaggerated but people with wheels don't seem to have any such issue.

Either way it's the hardest shit you will ever attempt and I think it's strange no one ever ranks it as such.

I have it in steam. Was thinking of playing it after having some fun in gt7.

Apparently it's much easier outside of the Collin McRae DLC and especially Scotland. Scotland is the second track in this and it's so fucking difficult, tree logs and stump are 1 inch off the track constantly

Time trial is the place to start apparently

Does it have options to make it easier?

yeah its pretty tough. i've been playing EA WRC and it's tough as well but dirt 2.0 has some straight up cruel parts (fucking finland)

uh no
if you want these rally sims to be "easier" you aren't playing the right game lmao
change your tuning setup and controller input settings i guess, or buy a wheel setup

Well, i have a logitech driving force gt from the ps3 times. I think i have saved a tutorial somewhere to make it work on pc.

there are ways you can move the steering stick (pull back/push up for lighter input) but at the end of the day a wheel is probably going to give you the precision needed, especially for long slight turns
learning the callouts helps a lot but it takes a lot of playing to do that

go to steam to buy it

all the reviews say codemasters is kill and it's gonna get deleted like the crew

is this real bros?

yeah really, you need at least a half-decent wheel to play it
i tried playing it with controller years ago and it sucked, but after I finally got myself a wheel it's much easier, especially if you have racing experience in other games. use manual 6 gear stick too, fucking up shifts has never been so far before

*so fun

Yes, but it's basically just making the AI get worse times which doesn't help when I can barely make it through half the track lmao

what are the good wheels these days?

bought it on sale some years ago for like 5 quid
i have an extremely shitty acme wheel and even with that it's tons of fun. even the missus tried it out, driving 50kph on asphalt

I heard someone say it's turned off online but is it just online servers? I bought it 90% off so IDC but if I lose the whole game that would be shit

even on a controller, you eventually can.
it doesn't come easy.
"left over crest" is more important than you think it is lol
also fuck spain. EA WRC has way better asphalt physics

seconding this question, something for a complete amateur that won't break the bank

I swear to God it's fucking unplayable with a controller which is bullshit. When I see people with a wheel able to correct after turning too far and heading head on for a wall it's clear the controller just doesn't work.

Even the lightest most gentle tap ever has your character throwing the wheel to the side even at 10/100 sensitivity.

Actually what seemed to help a lot was turning steering saturation on to like 120 which I think makes it so I can't turn more than 80% of maximum. There's almost no reason to turn maximum that I can see unless you're a god and want to full send around corners with massive drifts every turn. (Which I would want to do but not if it breaks everything else on controller lol)

i ma a poorfag, so i got myself a used dexp wheelman pro
270/900 degree mode, 6 gears+R manual shifter, three pedals. the wheel is nice, precise and doesn't jiggle, but the pedals have a bit of a deadzone so you have to be more precise about your inputs, and reverse is too easy to push for my taste, i sometimes end up jamming it in-between 6th and R during intense racing, so you have to be featherlight when switching to higher gears. been serving me fine so far for two years, had to oil it once few months ago because wheel got a bit squeaky, but it works perfectly fine otherwise.
no idea about any actually good wheels

Yeah, the game is much easier when I have the track memorized but it takes a lot to do that. I need to stop restarting and just finish the track over and over no matter how much I crash

i've never memorized any of these tracks truly, neither in this or the other rally game i play
and even IF you have a particular corner sequence memorized, its a lot different at a higher (or lower) speed
the funniest thing i've noticed with these games is that there's always a corner you will repeatedly fuck up. i'll recognize some of the terrain and be like "oh its coming" and then i'll break too late for the umpteenth time and go off the side

that one f1 driver who fucked up a corner IRL and then fucked it up again in the sim comes to mind

Anon, you do know you're supposed to hold the stick all the way to the front and roll it left and right against the edge for better control right?

What view do you use? I was doing ok with dashboard/wheel view but tried out hood view after recommendation and that felt good too but very fast for some reason

I was just thinking that would help a moment ago for the first time but it feels wonky holding it forward the whole race.
Is that really intended? I've used that to stop stick drift before but I have new GameSir controllers which work so much better than base Xbox controllers and don't get stuck drift. Love them desu

dash view (the one behind the wheel)
hood view is probably best for clarity but for muh realism i like to be on the drivers side
you might be able to adjust the FOV in dirt 2, but i'm not sure because i've never tried

very fast for some reason

it's the fov and proximity to the surface

callouts aren't that difficult to learn, but they all depend on a lot of factors like terrain, speed, car, etcetc
6 is usually freebie full throttle unless it's got a caution or it's in a sequence
5 is you let go of throttle a bit just before the turn
4 is braking slightly to transfer weight forwards
3 is usually full dethrottle on the current gear with sharp braking before the turn or gradual engine braking up until the corner
2 is usually a downshift to second/rhird gear and a lot of braking
1 is almost always a downshift to first
hairpins are very varied, can be anything from downshift to third to nearly a complete stop
acutes are usually nearly a complete stop
that is if we're talking about cars that don't slide much and stick to the ground, and if you're taking it safe. actually, safe driving is a more consistent way to win, you shouldn't be pushing your car to 100% unless you're really lagging behind or if you're single event time trials
uphill turns can be taken at higher speeds, brake earlier for downhill turns
also play around with codriver announcement delay setting, some maps are better with earlier announcements, and just brake if it's DC, caution, over bumps/splashes, and especially if it's a sequence, a double caution or an unseen turn.

Holy shit, thanks for the effort post anon. This is just what I need because those callouts are all Greek to me. Thank you

since we have a racist thread up, opinions?

i prefer dirt 2.0 but there's way more rallies in this one. most aren't as gnarly as dirt 2.0's are overall. if you like tarmac rallies there's a lot of variety in EA's entry

What is EA WRC exactly and why do people who play it compare it to Dirt Rally 2.0 so much? Are they very similar?

dirt 1.0 if i want slightly prettier grahixx
RBR for everything else

You're way more precise and consistent that way yes. A wheel is absolutely the optimal setup but doing it this way will get rid of that twitchiness and lack of fine control you complain about. It's good enough if you want to have fun and don't shoot for max sweat.
That being said, to learn it you might want to just train with racing games that don't require so many quick adjustments and countersteering. I started with F1 games and I haven't looked back since.
t. hot laps Pikes Peak on Dirt Rally

I will do it that way then!

it's codemaster's work but its published through EA. as far as i can tell (aside from tarmac physics) they play very similarly
WRC has a campaign mode but its tedious and i just set up my own rallies and play what i want with what car i want.

you can compete against other players in a mode called "moments" but its just a time trial leaderboard. i think there's an MP mode but i've never even bothered touching it

also, unlike dirt 2.0, there's no rallycross mode

rally vidya thread

Keep in mind that, at least for me, you can't drive that way in chase cam. I don't know why but I just can't manage to make it work

I started this one last week i play in the office

Damn, forgot pic.

that UI was fucking amazing

Is this still 100GB? I would have still had it installed if it weren't for its insane install size.

I managed to knock out four of the tracks with blood sweat and tears. The speed at which you had to maintain throughout the entire race was insane, one wrong move and you were dead. Honestly, the entire game kicked my ass. Only ever managed to make it to pro in career. I do appreciate this game a lot though. Made me way better at racing games.

all the reviews say codemasters is kill

as far as rally yes. ea dropped the wrc ip and it was taken up by nacon. only a matter of time before they run f1 into the ground.
