It's because popular culture became homogenized after the long 90s. The 2000s was the end of it and that was mostly recycled 90s culture, once smartphones and social media dropped it was all over. Everything since ~2012 has been the same recycled sloppa. There are no distinct eras to be nostalgic for anymore. Phones are the same, pop culture is the same, music is the same, movies are the same. The Avengers came out in 2012 for reference and we're still getting capeslop.
Vidya is the same. Bioware games in 2012 and 2025 are both the same slop, Pokemon games in 2025 are still recycling assets from 2013, the xbone and ps4 aren't appreciably different from the sexbox and ps5. There isn't even time to be nostalgic for shit anymore, a game comes out then spends the next 10 years getting remasters. everything in our culture is just a "forever" or a live service that never truly goes away, and so there's no room to remember it, because it never fucking leaves for something new.

as a kid playing a game for 2 hours felt like a good solid amount of time. After school you could play outside, do your homework, eat dinner, spend time with the family, and then game for 2 hours before bed. Now I can barely even get though thirty minutes of content in a game in 2 hours.
