Crash made sense but Spyro doesn't. I absolutely loved Spyro as a kid but the gameplay nowadays does not hold up, it's literally a kids game with pretty basic platforming and collecting. There isn't much room for it to improve without making it something else, which at that point why call it Spyro?

I hope it's not happening because there is literally no reason for it. Also like other anons pointed out, the reignited trilogy raped the style of the original 3 which is a big reason why the series wasn't completely forgotten and why I could still enjoy playing them to this day.
