i love all of them tho
I haven't played any of them so I don't know.

Sorry im not a contrarianfag who thinks 2 is the best. The levels were incredibly samey and the story was bland. Bossfights were alright though apart from the one where you fight 1000 metal gears.
What compelled you to reply then?

3 is cancer. 3 should have been banned.
3>1>2>5>4
How do i use the rations?
GZ
isn't a game
just be yourself
2>3>1>4 i think but you can really shuffle 1 2 and 3 around whichever way and its still a respectable ranking
4 is good too but its clearly weaker than the first 3. I dont really want to try 5, seems like an unfinished mess with dumb retcons, i dont like face scan bs and i dont want to be venom snake. If i played 5 im confident id place it last.
it is and it's great.
i got like 35 hours in gz
you should try 5
gameplay is just too good
maybe give gz a try, that's how i got into it
5 is ok. Like other anon said the gameplay is good but i definately wouldnt go in expecting the average metal gear experience.
rookie numbers
still not a game

5 is great for the fact alone that its an AAA game with decent graphics that runs at smooth 60 FPS unlike every modern UE5slop game released today with much more barren enviroment and worse graphics.
Resident Evil is a far better series.
2>3>4>1>V>PW
1 is probably the most balanced overall experience.
2 will be preferred by people who like surrealism, is somewhat marred by scatological humor and just embarrassing anime moments.
3 by people who needed more gameplay complexity, somewhat marred by how much of this complexity comes from the fucking menus and it saw an increase in absurdity like when Snake shoots a falling piece of rubble with an RPG directly over Ocelot.
Get a load of this!
Gotta believe it's the kiddos who played MGSII when they were 13 that rate 2 the highest. The plot was absolutely retarded. 'I live on in this arm', 'I need scissors, 61', 'Laugh and grow fat' - said the rollerskating fat guy who slings explosives. It was retarded. Naked Raiden covering his cock. Nonsensical sword fight with some guy who isn't really explained properly at all after this ship crashes into Manhattan.
And if you're going to rate them based on the mechanics of the game and nothing else then fucking Phantom Pain is the best game. And it obviously is not.
2 is neat but I can't say it's the most engaging. It's mostly really good if you play it immediately after 1 and you're open to the game's messages that are relevant today.
i'm more of a philly cheesteak guy
most 13 year old kids who played mgs2 wouldn't really get it. a lot of people who loves mgs2 are artsy whores who stroke their dick because the themes of the game are insanely relevant. you're kinda dumb for even stating that.
Phantom Pain did run pretty well didn't it, for those grafix. Too bad it was just a sandbox.
That's the point. They played it when they were 13 and didn't understand so now as manchildren they just believe it was DEEP art because they have no self-awareness.
well no because they'd rather stroke off MGS4 for being "le underrated"

I don't make the rules but I've been informed by kojima that this is the official order from best to worst
i like 3
2 is the reddit intellectual game with shitty "videogames turn you into a killer1!1!!!!!" message. If you want the true MGS2 experience just play Phantom Pain FOB missions.
the correct awnser
you're wrong and you're a grotesquely ugly freak
if that's what you got from the game message, you should really got see a doctor, you're an actual retard.
implying video games don't turn you into a killer
implying it's a bad thing
what a fag
Stuff like this is why 3's gameplay is always gonna be better than 4's.
MGS4 is genuinely painful to play if you're not just tranqing every guard.
you can and should use firearms
It's lame gameplay and takes away from the fantasy of being this spec ops guy who literally goes in with nothing and still scrounges up enough to take down every guard, or being a ghost and leaving no trace behind.
No.
MGS4 performs badly and it's downgraded severely. But it's copying of Splinter Cell and GRAW is better than the bad camera and stop to shoot gunplay of MGS3. MGS3 was shit in every way. 4 could have been good if it was more Middle East. All middle east.
Freeroam, directed by difficulty and waypoint missions.
YOU ENJOY ALL THE KILLING
THAT'S WHY

3 >= 1 >= PW > 4 > GZ = MGR > MG2:SS = GB > 2 > ACID1/2 > TPP > PO > TTS > MG1 > Snake's Revenge
Anything else = zoomer homocore list.
Middle East is easily the worst gameplay in any MGS game
ok Snake here's the shooter path and here's the stealth path choose one
also the stealth path is just a bunch of one off rooms with scripted guard paths and behaviors that only happen when you get close enough to them
Sons of Liberty.
Big Boss Trilogy is turbohomo nonsense.
Twin Snakes > 1
Huey did nothing wrong.
the bad camera and stop to shoot gunplay of MGS3. MGS3 was shit in every way.
This mindset is why half of all games are now some flavor of open world RPG.
MGS3 only appeals to 10 year old boys and women that read gay fanfics
No exceptions
This mindset is called evolution, bad ideas die out
Boss those are enemy children. Watch your fire and shoot the ones that show symptoms of being african. We need to purge the gene pool and restore mother base to its former glory.
I often imagine playing 1's story with Vs gameplay. Yeah some of you think it would ruin the original but I don't. I think it would be just as good if not better.

[CITATION NEEDED]
There were no witnesses except Emma, and she had PTSD from the incident that lasted for what? Over a decade? More than likely it was either an accident or Ocelot killed him, because why not?
Story and gameplay don't mix like two dicks
1=2 > 3 > 4 > PW > GZ > TPP
Shadow Moses > everything else
I wish the series had returned to the atmosphere of 1 but it never did.
Snake Eater's a game about being a stalker predator in the jungle terrorizing the guards, it's fine if it's not your thing but standing around in your hiding spot is kind of implicit with that premise.
It's a fun game to get yourself immersed in, and at the end of the day that's where MGS is at its best, not in the individual mechanics but in how it all comes together to create a specific mood and atmosphere.
To the mainstream audience, a game playing differently to others they're accustomed to is the bad idea. Placing limits on the player is the bad idea. It has been an incredible series of mistakes to listen to those people. You gotta go pre-2010s to find anything that isn't focus-tested to hell and incredibly self-conscious to perceived player responses.
Snake Eater's a game about being a stalker predator in the jungle terrorizing the guards
And it fails in every way at this task. Manhunt laughs at it. Hitman won't even spit on it.
Why are TPP and 2 so divisive?
I wish the series had returned to the atmosphere of 1 but it never did.
Monkey's paw. Then you'd have morons creating factionalism in the community and in the process MGS1 would stand out less.
Unconventional approach to storytelling
1>3>4>5>2
Both are games for 160+ IQ people
1
Rugpulls. But honestly in the modern day, their divisiveness seems highly overblown. All MGS games are critically acclaimed and 5 in particular reached mainstream success.
The divisiveness is obviously only a very vocal minority in any game's case. Last I checked, MGS4 still had a 94 on metacritic and to me it's the obviously worst game in the series. I'm in the minority there.
The reason TPP became so popular is because it was the only MGS on PC until last year.
A mix of console tribalism alongside it straight up just being the only game in the series most people could play is what caused its popularity to balloon.
Tranq guns should've never existed in MGS. Other stealth games like nuHitman knew this and only gave you 2 shitty tranq bullets per mission.
survive
alert 1 enemy
entire map is alerted and knows my exact position before he even says anything or shoots his gun
shit game desu
This is why 2 is the best.
alert 1 enemy
Sounds like a skill issue.
BROOOOOOOOTHER
>alert 1 enemy
Found your mistake anon. Perhaps you can use my expert analysis to improve your video game performance.
3>1>4>2>V>PW>PO
Great taste.
it's outrageous how many bullets they give you. It should have been like 24 darts on easy difficulties and TOPS 8 on hard and up.
Better yet, a complete fixed number of tranq darts in the entire game and you can never refill it, because why would there be tranq darts laying around when nobody but you uses them. So for the entire game all you get are the 12 darts you bring with you, or something like that.
game has a mind blowing plot twist
Oh, you'd point a weapon at your own brother?
look at how beautiful this is
I can hear the music. You know what, I might actually play it after seeing this thread when I get in from work. I only ever browse Anon Babble at work
Do it.
Use PGXP and the wide screen hack, increase the clock speed in the emulator to 200% for consistent frames.
Damn that looks very nice. Also, in my most recent playthroughs, I discovered that lift you see there. Had absolutely no idea it existed and it's not hard to see why because you never need to backtrack unless you've truly screwed yourself and need ammo.
I know we are on a weeb imageboard but do people genuinely like these BOTNS covers? This Yagami Light clone is not Severian.
1>2>3>4>5>PW
Best story: 2
Best atmosphere: 1
Best gameplay: V
Best girl: Sunny MGS4
I think limiting them too much could risk making non-lethal boss fights a pain in the ass, but frankly I'm shocked none of the games track the amount of bullets fired in the results screen and factor that into Big Boss runs.
3 = PW > Twin Snakes > 2 > 4 >>>>>>>>> V
"People" who think the original is better than Twin Snakes are oldtroons who only ever watched 1 and never played it. 2 has the best story by far but its gameplay is way too spotty.
Mgs 1 is completely playable in this day and age, I played in for the first time last year and had no issue from the metal gear fight.
1>3>PW>2>GZ>4>5
i do. severian is a fucking dweeb like light is
MG/MGS has always been one of those series I've wanted to play but never got around to. Every time I considered playing one finally, I realized I missed out on the authentic experience. I'm not aware of everything the games have to offer, but I've heard the game has hardware shenanigans, such as using controller 2 to beat a boss. Or pressure sensitive face buttons being utilized within the game. I'm sure it's overall still worth emulating or playing the Master Collection, but I just really gotta wonder how all that stuff is properly handled by the player on modern hardware. I don't really feel like obtaining another PS2 and a hard copy of the game just for this series. Would I be better off with emulation or the Master Collection? What are things I need to consider hardware-wise going into the game?
the nortubel one
gives you a tomboy fetish
The only problem with emulating 2 and 3 is the pressure sensitive buttons. I'm sure there's some mod out there that solves that problem. In the Master Collection they moved the "pressure sensitive" part to L3. You click it and Snake will raise his weapon without firing, click it again to lower the weapon.
You've got a great butt
there's no way you could pass as a man
hey men aren't allowed in here
I forgot how transphobic MGS1 is.
Metal Gear Thread huh....
Metal gear?
metal gears wouldn't make any sense on a battlefield
Who cares, they'd bring soul back to war.
Im interested in playing the Metal Gear games.
In which order should i play them to understand better the story?
Play it on release order, then discuss shit in case i didn't understood something or missed anything
Play it on the chronological order for the settings story according to some wiki page without reading the rest.
Yes, Metal Gear. The series of interactive "video games" that begun their tale in shadow moses. A special operative, codenamed Solid Snake, is sent into hostile territory to destroy a weapon: Metal Gear, a walking nuclear tank - mankind's ultimate folly.
But this was no simple mission. No, Snake was never just a soldier. He was a pawn in a game orchestrated by the Patriots, a shadow government pulling the strings of nations, rewriting history itself. His enemies? Not just terrorists. They were ghosts of ideology, rogue clones, cybernetic freaks, and philosophical fanatics obsessed with genes, control and memes.
Snake’s own DNA? A cursed legacy. He was a clone of Big Boss, the greatest soldier alive, turned villain, turned martyr, depending on whose side you're on. A genetic copy bred for war, betrayed by his creators, and doomed to die early. This grand masterpiece of interactive gameplay and storytelling is orchestrated by none other than Hideo Kojima himself.
Play in release order.
The games kinda make no sense otherwise since the later prequels assume you have the knowledge from 4 going into them.
Plus in-universe MGS3 is kinda treated as the publicization of that mission file rather than the actual events that occurred.
V
Always release order, should never be a debate.
BUT, MG1 and 2 on the MSX are so old and got overlooked that MGS 1 effectively is the first one you should start with. MGS 1 is technically Metal Gear 3, and rehashes a lot of Metal Gear 1 and 2 in 3D.
Portable Ops can be skipped. Metal Gear Solid V turns into a totally unfinished mess after Skullface dies, but the true ending is the nuclear disarmament ending that you never see because it's tied to the online nuclear proliferation and disarmament. In a roundabout way it sets up Metal Gear 1 on the MSX. If you finish the chronology on Metal Gear 2, you'll cap off the series by killing Big Boss.
Release order. This series has so many references to previous entries in the series you'll miss way too much playing any other way. Plus it'll help as you will see as the gameplay evolves from the previous game.
I forgot Metal Gear Rising exists but we don't talk about that. Play it after everything else.
Skip the MSX games and play in release order
Just play MGS1-3 in order
Then decide if you want to play MGS4 and MGS5.
There were a couple ideas they had that never got made. interquels where Snake and Emmerich break Naomi out of detention between MGS 1 and 2 in exchange for the foxdie vaccine and the original MGS Rising concept where Raiden meets Eva and together they recover Big Boss's body along with Sunny.
In retrospect it's really out of left field how Raiden just becomes a head and spinal cord in a robot ninja body completely off screen. For some reason he doesn't even get to keep his jaw. No one even really acknowledges this change either. An MGS4 player would probably be very surprised playing 2 for the first time.
