Not really, Q*bert doesn't have the same qualities, and while there are fanatics out there, Q*bert hasn't stuck around.

I can understand someone not being very enthused about Tetris, but I can't imagine someone actively disliking it or someone not understanding the appeal. Maybe specific versions that are too slow or gimmicky but that's it.

The NES version of Tetris is complete crap, really. The fact that the West knows that crap better than Tetris Grandmaster, even in competitive terms, shows that Westerners don't understand video games in the most basic way possible.
There is only one good version of Tetris, and that is Tetris Grandmaster. That was humanity's only conscious attempt to make Tetris a good game, and it was largely successful, until the company that owns the rights to Tetris started sabotaging the game because it didn't fit the "Tetris Mandate".

It is a perfect game. It's like someone telling me they don't like to play catch or shoot hoops. It's fundamentally simple and rewarding.

Tetris is not even close to being a perfect game, contrary to what the anons here are saying. Tetris as it was conceived no longer exists; it was "killed" by natural selection, which is not something you expect to happen to something perfect.
Modern Tetris, for example, has nothing to do with the original Tetris, a good example of modern Tetris being what you have in Puyo Puyo Tetris. Modern Tetris was an attempt to make Tetris more accessible and enjoyable to play.
But as I said in another post, the only truly conscious attempt to improve the Tetris formula as a game (and not in terms of accessibility) was Tetris Grand Master, with TGM2, in my opinion, being the end of this evolutionary line where Tetris began to become something truly remarkable. Unfortunately, TGM3's development was disrupted by external factors that forced the developers to add elements from modern Tetris, which killed that "evolutionary line" where Tetris was moving towards perfection.

not really, yes puyo is better than tetris when you're a noob but the better the tetris player is the more puyo can't keep up even with the slight speed buff to puyo.
that's not even getting into the fact that as a puyofag it's basically all we've been getting aside from a japanese only gacha and a content filled game like earlier entries with barely anyone playing because it's apple arcade. i don't even think 2 or 2S is even special to tetris players because it's too close to 1 unless tetris fans got really attached to the characters (and even then if they want more that's a massive barrier if they can't play puyo at all).

tsu is basically THE puyo gameplay but a lot of later games incorporate it as well to the point every game is worth a shot (except yo~n because that's a travesty in gameplay despite how fucking good it is everywhere else), they just keep releasing tsu because it's the popular one so if you want to play something like even fever you'd have to netplay or play the complete quick and dirty esports cashgrab that is champions/esports. makes me wish sega did a puyo BOX where it's just a collection of every game from 1 to chronicle with some fancy sidemodes sprinkled in like what compile did.

forgot to mention in my original post but another reason why 2 didn't captivate people as much is that there's just other tetris games out there for those consoles after ppt's english version was released rather early on consoles in the west, again unless you like the puyo cast why would you buy the crossover when other tetris games came out after, and 2S being switch 2 exclusive is only gonna affect switch owners who probably won't have a tetris game on that system for a slight bit.
