game releases, not very known or popular

Anon Babble likes it, recurring threads with unanimous praise

game becomes immensely popular over time

now Anon Babble is filled with assblasted posters who hate it, cant go one thread without someone shitting on it, whining about how its nothing special or other franchises are better

Is this the strongest sign that a game is fantastic and mogs the competition?

I love League of Legends!!

They disgust me these normals. They come talk(bother) to me and when they realize i'm an expert they pretend that it's not that important and that's i'm the annoying one instead of admitting that they never cared about any of it. They are the jews of humans.

this is how it is for any popular game. game releases, finds audience, audience hypes it up, audience grows, now more people hype the game up, people outside of the audience start to hear about it, they try it because of all the praises being sung, they don't like it because they are not the intended audience, they start shitting on the game because they felt like they were lied to.
in the case of hollow knight, it really isn't that special. it's just a well executed metroidvania. that's all. but most people aren't out here trying to play a sidescrolling metroidvania. partially because the genre is incredibly stagnant and because most devs make a "serviceable" game in the best case scenario.

Chudcels are losers irl so they cope by thinking that being different than the normies is a virtue.

It alright
It not subtle or nuanced, it tasteless and lukewarm

I'll give it a go if and when Hollow Knight: Silksong actually gets a release date and not just "in the same 365 days that Metroid Prime 4 claims to also be releasing in".

it's just a well executed metroidvania.

being told this was a metroidvania is what disappointed me in the first place
if you told me it was 2d dark souls, I wouldn’t have felt disappointed

II wish more games understood that more buttons doesn't mean smoother gameplay.

That would be dumb since it's nothing like Dark Souls.

No dodge roll

No weapon variety

No RPG stats

No esoteric storytelling

Only similarity is exploring a dead kingdom locked in time by its original ruler

This is how you spot a redditor who's trying too hard to fit in. They imagine that Anon Babble = hate what's popular.

I just wish it was more fun to control. You spend most of your time just walking and dashing, and the dash isn't even fun to use. Pogoing is alright but it really doesn't change the vast majority of your playtime

Feel like I myself wasn't an intended audience, since I don't play platformers usually, but I tried Hollow Knight because of the hype and I liked it lots. I think it's a great game and the hype is justified. People hating on it here, probably never played it.

It is fun since you have full air control. Simple and responsive is good.

the death system and artstyle are similar, don’t be obtuse

No dodge roll

sotn has a backdash too

No weapon variety

sotn has good weapon variety too

No RPG stats

sotn has that as well

No esoteric storytelling

you can’t actually think this

Only similarity is exploring a dead kingdom locked in time by its original ruler

and knight theming, and the death system, and artstyle
if you haven’t played sorn, shut the fuck up

Newfag detected

But that doesn't make the game fun to navigate. Sure it's nice for boss fights but that isn't where most of your play time is gonna be unless you slog through godmaster
I say this all the time but the Knight is basically just Zero from Mega Man X but with the fun taken out. The simple change of being able to jump out of a dash and keep your momentum would've made the game 10x more fun

Being fast doesn't automatically make it better. Hollow Knight's slow pace is part of the charm.

hollow shite fags actually think this

REDDITOR REDDITOR REDDITOR

Anon Babble, especially Anon Babble and Anon Babble, is explicitly that nowadays. Unless there's a character with big boobies or little children in it.

I disagree, the slow movement coupled with the giant map just made navigation tedious.
They give you the not-shinespark later on and it sucks too

Imagine how much of a bore Deepnest would be if you could just mindlessly sprint through it all. The oppressive atmosphere would be completely lost.

it already is a bore
hollowknight is only interesting in three places to me
the jellyfish place, the lab, and the abandoned castle area
never mind the fact that it’s too big, and you never get a skill of wolf equivalent

It's not tedious at all. There's more than enough fast travel points in the game and a metroidvania is meant to have you re-exploring an area multiple times, otherwise there's no point to it being one.

it's just a well executed metroidvania.

With a genre mogging world and fights, even despite its setbacks like basic movement

a metroidvania is meant to have you re-exploring an area multiple times

Yes, so it should be fun to do so. It is not in Hollow Knight because your movement kit is so boring and never really evolved beyond dashing and jumping, and your damage upgrades are never so substantial that you can just demolish early game areas either so enemies are always annoying.

but it isn't like dark souls at all, with the exception of dropping "souls" on death.

similar artstyle

are you fucking blind?

I feel like the bosses are good for a metroidvania but if I wanted to play a game for boss fights I'd play an action game. I will never boot up Hollow Knight to replay a boss, but I would do that for something like Kingdom Hearts 2

. I will never boot up Hollow Knight to replay a boss,

For me? It's Nightmare Grimm.
Such a good boss.

I agree that he probably is the best fight in the game, but I also feel like he sort of illustrates how static(?) a lot of the fights feel. He does he attacks and you dodge them while getting in pot shots, and that's really all there is to it. The bosses almost never actually react to your attacks outside of the health-gate staggers. You can't combo or stun them in any appreciable way

It's a good game. I enjoyed it.
Not much to discuss about it, though.
I'm excited for Silksong.
I liked Bloodstained more, tho. Honestly, sexy characters are needed to make these games go from fun to amazing. I replayed Bloodstained just to go the cat girl kickboxer transformation soul. I am only replaying Hollow Knight again to remind me what I enjoyed about Hollow Knight since it feels like a decade since the game came out.

NkG is a very canned fight, not the best example. Pure Vessel and GPZ are cooler in my opinion

You can't combo or stun them in any appreciable way

Yes you can, unironically one was probably just playing badly/slowly not to notice this. Most bosses have two separate stagger counters, one for sheer hits, and another for dealing several hits repeatedly without letting a certain window expire between them. You can absolutely constantly stun the ever living shit out of bosses if youre good at moves and spells, like basically stunlock hornet and lost kin, or trigger one in pure vessel every two-three moves

demolish early game areas

You can though?

you can never demolish early game areas

You can literally demolish the lategame areas, did you play the game?

boss parries me

some lategame bosses have feints or cancels depending on your position

boss feels like theyre actively fighting with me

i think HK's best fights feel more reactive than most sidescroller games

It's a decent game, the backlash exists because it's constantly spammed as being the best game ever which is laughable

hollow shite was never good. it was average and you are overselling it so hard purely out of nostalgia

most bosses

Actually scratch this, probably not most. I just remembered theres a lot who dont stagger at all, but most bosses that do stagger work this way
If you almost instantly re-stagger Soul Tyrant then you know youre playing well. With 10 hits under 1 second he will get stunned every time. with something like the shade soul multihits and constantly slashing him in between his every teleport you can do it reliably, not being fast enough to let him escape, etc is cool as fuck and feels way better with more player expression than most vidya fights

I agree with you on everything you said, but I just don't like the way people make the game out to be this badass amazing masterpiece that is a perfect game in every way and that the developers are on par with any game devs out there

It's not just Anon Babble, everyone who used to play it and most who still do justifiably bitch about league.

Most devs are not capable of making a living world like Hollow Knight's is. Which is ironic since it takes place in a dead kingdom.

Anything Anon Babble says is great will be either japslop or egirl slop. Vee has terrible taste in vidya, they exist to fap off to 3d girls.

a living world like Hollow Knight's

explain what you mean by this, because the world hardly feels "alive". most npcs are boring and fairly static. the world hardly changes save for the moment in the story that the rot/curse/whatever shows up everywhere. it isn't dynamic and it doesn't feel "lived in".

fap off

Your first sentence completely contradicts the second.

don't be harsh.

Japslop, egirl slop and slavjank are the pinnacles of gaming.
