You Had to Be There
You Had to Be There
nobody here is old enough to remember ts
I don't believe that
pokemon go to the polls everybody
my morbidly obese lab manager is still obsessed with this shit
I am.
It was magical, it genuinely felt like the last thing that everyone, and I mean everyone, got collectively excited over a single thing. I went to Central Park in the summer of 2015 and there were so many people playing Pokemon Go that my phone started to freeze up.
anon-kun, it came out in 2016
For me? It was the megaman battle network Advanced PET
I remember
My phone couldn't play it because my family was too poor to afford me anything but hand-me-downs, but my best friend at the time was playing it
We went to a dark area behind our school (night classes) to fetch Pokémon creatures, and he tripped and split open his nose, that was on the first day it came out
He has a massive scar now because of this silly game lol
Zoomer
This shit come out
Everyone at work goes nuclear and do coordinated walks to grab pokemons
Ask them why
It's pokemon, you must get them
Here anon, give me your phone I'll install it for you
I do remember, it was fucking scary to see such cult behavior everywhere
zoomers have no idea
Unironically that shit reminded me why most people really are just cattle
I had one of these and I’m a zoomer
And then everyone clapped
Yeah I remember me and my roommate actually leaving the apartment every evening that week, it was awesome. Then he trooned out and moved capitol hill (seattle). RIP
It's amazing how badly they fumbled this. They released a game with billions of downloads, hundreds of millions of which were actual dedicated users who were actively into it and they failed to develop the user experience past the bare minimum freemium experience.
The moment the game hit as hard as it did Nintendo and the Pokemon Company should have spared to expense into bringing the content up to the level of at least something like a Genshin Impact and it would have been ten times as profitable
these were popular well into the 2000s, it's also a zoomer thing
tamagotchi craze was during 90's
you had to be there
i was a contrarian and didn't play it but maybe i should have hopped on the fun
pokemon go (to the polls) was almost 10 years ago
You'll never be a millennial.
I can’t remember the 90s, but I had mine in like 2003
My old sister got one of these. I was ultra jealous but I didn't want to get called a girl for wanting one.
i was a contrarian and didn't play it and don't regret it
most people really are just cattle
Game comes out
Promotes walking around, talking to people, getting together
Oh yes they're cattle I'm so much smarter
I didn't play that shit, but it reads like you were 15 yo at the time.
I was too busy fetching pails of water
my zoomie brother still plays this despite never playing a proper Pokemon game
It was a terrible game and a cia spy project. It's garbage.
CIA ploy to get people taking pictures of russian and chinese POIs (embassies, research stations, etc). Tiktok put such low-level surveillance amateurism in it's place.
What about that time when every faggot in school had toy laser
crummy post
What about fortnite
everything is a cia spy project
3210
Absolutely based phone.
Also arbitrarily decide to troon out everyone’s characters at some point in the future
If it's on a smartphone yes
They really expected people to buy plane tickets and travel to rare pokemon hot spots
Those were cool as fuck though
i remember being at the peak of my "gubmint is watching everything and everything is propaganda" paranoia when this game came out. friends tried to get me onto it, but i already knew about the keyhole shit (not the exact specifics of how they utilized the game, but just the extreme distrust of a MIC company making a game). then people tried telling me what i already knew a few months ago. and those people will get got again.
I am also ten years old
My fucking town held a Pokemon fair downtown during the peak, it was absolutely surreal. Also pic related happened lmao
they were dangerous af, you could permanently damage yours or others eyesight
Team yellow reporting in
(we win)
use Android emulator + GPS spoofer to capture rare pokemones the second they appeared anywhere in the world
college aged adults were legitimately impressed by this
It was the same exact experience as bringing my ipod video with porn loaded onto it to elementary school. By the time Niantic started cracking down on it nobody gave a shit about the game anymore
everyone gets into pokemon GO
get into it with them
0 fucking pokemon near me
the pokemon that do pop up are shitty mons
the app itself is some chinese bootleg freemium shit
uninstall
crazy that there are people still playing
You almost had it right
Game comes out
Promotes walking around, talking to people, getting together
No one but nerds play it
Same game comes out by the same dev but pokémon
Promotes walking around, talking to people, getting together
omgeeee is that a pikachu, weeeeeeeee
Millions play it, get injured by their NPC behavior and cause billions in millions in damage for trespassing and other shit
Gets dropped because the cattle moved to the next shinny thing
so can a stick
Crazy how this was literally biggest thing in the world for a while and then poof. People dropped it like a hot potato. Just like that. Like wtf happened?
i played again briefly in the summer of last year
there were guys driving around taking over gyms with multiple phones, hackers spoofing locations with burner accounts, and the same 10 pokemon appearing over and over
glad niantic sold it, because its over
In my school it was cheap Aliexpress butane torchlighters, every kid was walking around with a bunch of tiny second degree burns on their hands and arms
play the game at night on a hike in the country
go to the lake 20 minutes in
fucking lake is littered with 200+ shiny raichus and ubers
pokemon is fun but the post-game is shit and i
was every kid smoking meth or some shit?
No mostly we just used them to burn each other
what third world country do you live in? genuine question
in my country carrying just a cigarette lighter on school premises could potentially get you expelled
Pokemon R/B
Pokemon Cards
Hockey Cards
Those weird metal sort-of-pogs but for hockey players
Digimon Cards
Tamogatchi
Digimon / other digital pet games
Marbles
POGs
Skateboarding
Hacky Sack
Ministicks
The S
Crazy Bones
I think that was most of them around the mid to late 90s
pokemon go is now considered nostalgic
its fucking 10 years old
holy shit
In my school we all started carrying around coins one year and flipping them constantly to determine random shit and acted like gamblers, drove the teachers mad
Damn you are so smart
Isn't it funny how NPCs cry about smarter CCTV when they go to a store for "invading" them, yet they all download apps etc that need permission for 100 different things and they just accept it. Lmao
Covid forced people to stay inside and they realized it was never actually that fun.
What does "ts" mean?
it can't be that old surely wtf
coddled generation
many such cases
TeamSpeak
They removed trackers, didn't have trades or battles and there wasn't much to do.
It was fun seeing the location of a pokemon and going there. I'm a third world country guy, can't be wiggling my phone around for no reason.
This game was the final straw for using a phone on a bicycle getting banned in my cunt.
I'd point one to my eyes a lot; nothing happened
Also used to look at the sun. Big deal.
Aliexpress
this is turbo zoomer shit tho
scariest goychow event I've witnessed, only covid maskers were the same
if they gave it normal pokemon battles i would have played it continuously. i'm not sure why mobile games are so allergic to having actual gameplay.
This, the whole news of people getting ran over, going missing in the woods, suffering multiple injuries over this shit was the best part
I agree with op, you really had to be there to witness this animal behavior kek.
Never played it but the time when the game was released was the last time I was truly happy
cafes and restaurants would advertise being near to Poke Stops or whatever they were called to try to get you into their store
parks were filled people walking around with their faces glued to their phones
my big brother basically forced me to go with him to a nearby Pokemon Gym at like 8PM and he’d constantly ask me about Pokemon lore since I was a bigger fan of the franchise than him
you’d constantly see people driving around with their eyes on their phone
news channels would constantly talk about Pokemon Go
the three faction leader OCs, whatever their names were, had brilliant designs and felt like unique characters despite barely having any dialogue
It really felt like the beginning of something big. They could’ve expanded upon it massively and turned into the next big step in gaming but then everyone just randomly stopped playing it and now all that’s left are a handful of hipsters.
you just made me realize I’ve been posting on Anon Babble for over 12 years and I still feel like a newfag
normalfag fads never last silly pokedrone, that's the point of a fad
Someone who was 8 years old when this game came out is now old enough to post here lmao.
the human characters
brilliant designs
The game didn't even look like a Pokemon game beyond the Pokemon themself. They could have at least tried to replicate the style but they couldn't help but do generic westernshit.
It’s hard to grasp kids born in 2010 are in highschool. Fuuuuuuuuuck
Not really. I started playing last week and it's quite enjoyable.
the generation that doesn't even remember the pandemic will be rather interesting
they didn't add enough to the game at first, sat on basically nothing and people got bored. ceo's should look at this why releasing a beta is terrible.
the game now is great with a billion things to do, but could've been bigger than anything if they released it sooner.
i still can't believe people seriously enjoyed or played this when it first came out. mobile games suck.
Make a shit game with no budget and no features
Downloaded infinite times and prints infinite money
Make the game less shit and invest ton of money into it
Everyone leave
There's only one thing to learn from this
Kojima invented Pokemon Go a decade before with Portable Ops' soldier recruiting thing
yet another case of la creatividad stolen valour
Kek new gen kids legit have nothing novel to be excited about, it’s actually as hilarious as much as it is sad. Enjoy trying to remember all the new 100,008 new Pokemon, kiddos!
Cool and optimistic
Pokemon Go feels like last year
Was actually nearly a decade ago
I remember some people panic about GO putting kids in danger etc. be it groomers or accidents or stuff.
Always thought it was strange but then I remembered how USA suburbs and stroads are. Also some people saying that it's a grooming app or smth.
Ever hear of Beanie Babies? Tomogachis? Nigger, fotm trends come and go all the time
I just looked up what day it came out. I downloaded the game immediately. I was 17 then, average age people lose their virginity. Instead of having sex I was playing Pogeyman. This is still true for me now.
Same, I was actually doing things and going places then.
If you're 27 and still thinking about the average age people first have sex, you're not going to have sex
What does that even mean?
I can't believe this was almost a decade ago
It means that sex and life happen differently for each person and that you shouldn't give a fuck or put any stock in the averages. You're just setting yourself up for failure if you do. I didn't have sex till I was 21 and, admittedly, that came after I stopped getting concerned about not having already had sex. Just focus on your shit, try to be charming and interested and life will work out
It actually doesn’t bother me that I’m a virgin. What bothers me is that this thing which is supposedly super common just hasn’t literally fallen into my lap even though I actually don’t give that much of a fuck. Literally.
no, had they waited a year they could've trickled in new features instead of a beta. It took about 2 years to get the real game going with raids, community days, and actual reason for the grind.
In 2016 when it release people were like cool I can catch pokemon to take down gyms, but no reason to keep playing besides collecting shit. Still they sold this game this year for 3.5 billion dollars, so it's not exactly a nobody game. I play since it released.
you could catch these in claw machines
I didn't give a shit about it because it was mobile game trash.
just hasn’t literally fallen into my lap
Things in life rarely do, including sex, unless you're rich and/or very handsome. You have to go out on a limb for things.
I remembered that my neighborhood had gangs of old people walking around playing this shit with each person having two phones
This shit was 10 year ago what
literally biggest thing in the world
couldn't find a pokemon unless you lived in a suburb
sweet
Who remembers these things?
I'm really glad I was out working in the middle of nowhere woods the summer that came out and had no phone signal or data to even consider downloading it. I don't feel I missed out on anything and avoided the early craze entirely.
it's gonna be like the generation that doesn't remember 9/11
Damn I'll never forget everyone running to the same place to catch a wartortle.
Then they ruined it by making spawns personal to each account.

2025 - 2016 = 9

mods, underageb& this kiddy
I was there.
It sucked.
covid was over 4 years later you retard
I fucking loved these things as a kid. I always brought it to the grocery store so I could scan all the barcodes and get monsters.
It took 100 scans before you found a monster but when you did it was mesmerizing
I was only 20 when Pokemon Go was released.
Say it ain't so...
yeah so many nerds got a girlfriend because of this. it was a dream come true
not for me though. f u lucky bastards that finally got to hold hands
tfw pokéfag
couldn't join in on the hype because my phone at the time was shit and I was too much of a poor collegefag to upgrade
Some kid in school left his in the bathroom one day. Later, another kid ran out screaming that there was a ghost in there after he heard the beeping.
I still play every day and I didn't even start until 2020.
MH Now is better
Fuck, I had no idea. Was too busy with my studies, must have missed that.
Nevermind what I said, then.
Normies are cattle. They run off pure emotion and only follow trends.
I was there. It was more retarded than the card games.
I was never a pokefag and never will be. I can't get into this series for the life of me.
I am.
well I wasn't so go cry about it
was total reddit trash played exclusively by normies
go outside
don't think i will
It was fun the first few weeks then it became tedious slop once the novelty wore off
anon I'm 33
I never understood why anyone thought this game was fun.
When it took off it was just " toss a pokeball and catch the monster "
Fucking brain dead shit even when compared to actual pokemon which was designed for children
collectathon FOMO
it's Nu-Fun™
head to uni campus
people looking for Pokémon all over
random guy walks up to me
"Hunting for Pokémon is so fun! Don't you agree?"
Encountering a Pokémon NPC irl was surreal
I was there, I didn’t have a phone that could run it. All my friends were walking around town collecting Pokémon creatures while I just followed them like a fucking loser.
