They work together but are confronted by Robotnik and Mecha Sonic who attempt to take back the emeralds and eradicate the echidnas alongside Amy and Knuckles. However, using the power of the emeralds, Amy becomes Hyper Amy and destroys Robotnik's Doomsday Egg, then manages to save Knuckles and travel back through the rift to Angel island before it explodes.

Sonic in his entrapment ruminates on how important Amy is to him, and he learns to appreciate her for what she has to offer. This culminates in their effective role reversal, and he is seen in the prologue chasing her down as she speeds off into the distance, seeking adventure.
