millennial writing tropes

go back to xitter
Normally I like stuff like this, but with the exception of it being a smartphone because there's just something about smartphones that is visually unpleasant in all media, I can't explain why, it's not the logic or 'realism' of them or anything, it's just the pure aesthetic design element that looks so ugly
powerful villain is redeemed and joins your team
he is still just as powerful as he was when you fought him
several songs in the game are sung by a female voice
female character dies
rest of the songs have a male singer or have no vocals at all
The person you think is obviously the antagonist is, but not for the obvious reasons
characters panic when confronted with an enemy no human should be able to beat
can't believe their eyes and gush over you as you mop the floor with them
final boss fight is two nobodies fighting over nothing at the end of everything
final boss is fought after you've resolved the main conflict
Villain uses the power of friendship against you
the game’s major bosses all appear in the opening as sinister silhouettes
boss can grab you and steal your phone
now you can't access the pause menu with your healing items
That's a bit much but it could be cool
intro spoils the entire game's major twists but you don't realize the spoilers on a first playthrough
antagonist is a cool customer the whole game
until about halfway through his health bar when his mr cool starts disintegrating
examples?
I liked it in RE6. I even liked the goofy lil cube phone Ada had
youtube.com
Eh, I think it being a less realistic phone is what saves it, what sucks is when it's just straight up an iPhone
It only works in something like, say, GTA, because that game is already set in a trashy inner city so it fits the stink

1/3
main villain was just trying to make main character strong enough to beat the real villain
2/3
main character fights spars with his father to show how much he's grown
>"Are you ready? I've been looking forward to this since the day you were born!"
3/3
main character thinks he's the chosen one
he isn't, chosen one is someone else but MC contributed just enough to guarantee chosen one's victory over evil
minor villain risks his life to save MC's life
>main villain was just trying to make main character strong enough to beat the real villain
>>he isn't, chosen one is someone else but MC contributed just enough to guarantee chosen one's victory over evil
Examples, RIGHT NOW
Oblivion.
Mother, Final Fantasy XI (maybe. I don't remember the story that well).
still his most kino moment
he may be a hardass but he knows Peter is a good kid
The movie made him a principled guy with a shitty personality, but he's not really evil and he does (wrongfully) think that Spider Man is bad. He has like 5 lines in total but he's more complex and memorable than most of the characters.
puzzle game
unique dialogue for every puzzle you solve without looking at the clues because (you) are replaying it while the MC cheers that he got a 'lucky' guess
i think it's just moreso cuz he's a shrewd and brutally honest man more than anything
hard boss fight that you're supposed to lose to as part of the story
you can beat it anyway if you play it right
unlock something cool if you do
press pause
all characters and NPCs try hard to pretend they are paralyzed like in the old movies but they still blink and move a bit
main menu changes as the game progresses
biggest loser sells his soul to the devil for more power
still loses
little girl
big ass fucking weapon
Please point me to games that use this trope. Sounds kino asf
everytime you shoot the gun she flies across the room or has a really hard time managing the recoil
bonus points if she laughs after it
>>main villain was just trying to make main character strong enough to beat the real villain
Infamous
>>>he isn't, chosen one is someone else but MC contributed just enough to guarantee chosen one's victory over evil
Dragon quest 5

there's a number of them but a lot of them just nerf the character or they're different in subtle ways to the actual boss version
Mad World was great about that
hero is a loving father
gets fucked over, somehow makes it back
so overwhelmed with rage (thinking he lost his son/daughter) that he goes on a rampage, thinking that he's making the world stronger
takes a bit until getting his ass beat by vengeful heroes that he was actually being a villain instead of a hero
ALLMIND flipping out when Iguazu breaks free of her
AC6's story was full of kino, shame the gameplay was shit
silent protagonist starts making a name for himself after rising from nothing
people go from "lol who is this" to "HOLY SHIT IT'S HIM, RUN AWAY" as the story goes on
you end up so fucking terrifying that one guy even goes insane trying to kill you or get rid of you because you're a wrench in his plans, fails anyways
map music changes to be either more somber or aggressive depending on the setting and current story arc
the UI/menus get fucked with
also
you fuck with the UI
highlight song is a duet by both male and a female characters in your party
when one talks, their vocals are missing from the song while the other sings, and vice-versa
normally I don't care about taunting much in games but
character taunts ("Hey, do your job!")
enemies get visibly angry (DT'ing in DMD, or spamming harder attacks while taking more damage), bosses even get a special voiceline ("You...!")
taunting certain bosses causes special taunts to play, such as Sam calling Armstrong an old man (which causes him to spam charges)
and my favorite
as the advantage keeps stacking, the character's taunts get much more elaborate (Nero's air guitar in DMC4)
Powerful asshole joins your party
Friendly party member leaves the group and becomes the final boss
KINO
the music changes in fights based on how bad or good the fight is going
>little girl
>big ass
final boss clearly wants it to end, barely fighting back even though one touch should kill you
people who say this shit was anti-climactic are the ones who skip cutscenes
the protagonist of the original is the antagonist / optional boss in the sequel
exploration of collectibles is not retarded and can be done without a wiki thanks to being intuitive
if collectibles are scattered haphazardly, the game gives you the option down the line to just highlight them
god bless postal 2, the dead rising games, spider-man web of shadows and saints row 3 and 4
little girl party member with a huge weapon
and to add to this
collectibles actually reward you meaningfully in-game
if not, they show cool developer BTS or give rewards that are really out there
god bless tfrotf for putting full g1 episodes in the game
I wanted you to kill Spider-Man but I gotta be real, this is kinda working for me too!
he may be a hardass but he knows Peter is a good kid
That's not all he knows.
my favorite is how old Capcom on the PS2 did it
decide to explore like a complete monkey
literally climb anything and everything
get to some secret alcove or find a hidden loot cache
it's actually something quite strong (such as the Quasar you can find in Steel Battalion's factory mission) or a component for something to make the late game easier
god these movies were amazing
