I'd say mechanically it might be the best 'J'RPG I've played. It's a combination of the Legend of Heroes combat with Soulslike elements and I don't just mean dodging attacks. The healing items restore at checkpoints like Estus flasks and it works. You find ability items instead that you can use to build different synergies in your team. Also, it has a world map which is something I wish hadn't been abandoned and am glad to see.
How the FUCK is Metaphor a 94? It's like a legitimately solid 6/10 JRPG. It's worse than Persona and SMT. It's worse than the best FF games. Wtf

Half the playtime of the game is literally playing a rigged card game called Gimica while the other half is using Gimmicks (The attacks that are basically minigames) in battles where enemies die in a single hit and 80% of the Gimmicks have some of the worst trigger conditions possible to succeed in.
You want to be playing with Gimmicks all at level 7 because anything lower makes the game even easier to beat, but the Gimmicks at level 7 are like

It's extremely good. Combat is dynamic and constantly engaging. Visuals are stunning, possibly the best of any 3D game that's ever existed. Story and characters are good too.
The parry is designed to be intentionally hard, the window is really small. You just need to learn it with practice. Work with the turn based systems and hope you eventually get the timing down, it's not meant to be a "PRESS X TO AWESOME" type game.
