You do realise P5 is basically the single most sold jrpg, right?

It's not a traditional turn based rpg, you have to look closely at every enemy animation and parry or dodge their attacks. Some optional bosses and mobs can wipe you out in two hits. But I like that it's hard even on normal because it makes exploration worth it for better weapons/gear. The game opens up a lot after the prologue. And it has 0 weeb shit which is rare for turn based games. I like it.

A lot of games of the genre since the late 00's and early 10's went full in dating elements and underages in panties and moe ugu aesthetic, waifu threads and porn from game characters got more popular than ever + some people spend a lot in skimpy skins and gacha rolls.
It offends otakus and they'll pretend nothing changed and move goalposts by saying JRPGs were always anime or fanservice always existed. Which is true (heck, Akira Toriyama coined the term pafu pafu/puff puff in Dragon Quest/Dragon Ball around the 80's), but that was never the point.
The hikikomori culture grew a lot in the last 15 years in Japan, and along with it stuff like gacha, idols and objectifying and treating everything as a product. It's a society problem that spreaded into every medium, JRPGs and anime included.
So in the end, Japan keeps losing.
