Actual answer: They are trying to avoid people shitting on their game for being bad and/or woke for three months prior to release. With surprise releases, a bunch of people buy the game at full price before finding out it's bad and/or woke.

New games are shit and NPCs are finally waking up to it so they have to keep relying on remaking and rehashing old games. The industry is crashing in slow motion.

I certainly do want it, I quite like the HL series, but more so because I don't think Valve has made a good game since Portal 2 and I am curious if they actually still have it in them to make something good. When they get it really right, good Valve games are some of the best.

Right. For what it's worth I played a little CS:GO back in the day and a little bit of deadlock recently. I didn't even bother with cs2, didn't touch dota.

Valve's competitive multiplayer games probably bring in a bit of money and attention but it's just all kinda the same slop as the rest of the industry so I'm not super interested in it, nor in wasting loads of time trying to hone skills on some high skill ceiling shit which adds no real value to my life.

Agreed that they've been hardware and non-game focused. But they've been rather successful in those fields. The deck actually is good hardware, bought it at launch actually. Their support for Linux is pretty significant, and steam is by far still the absolute best launcher and game store.

I fear for the worst considering how long of a drought it's been since valve made a good single player game but I do think Valve knows better than to drop HL3 in a shitty state. It's a legacy capping project I'm guessing for many of the old hats there and I don't think they'd prefer to live with it being bad.

Not terribly popular but whoever played it loved it and us boomers remember it with great nostalgia, also that time culture was much different so there wasn't this cult-like behaviour we see today.
It was a good game, no one basedjaked pointing at it like they do with their funko pop collection to impress their wife because it's been 2 years she keeps fucking her boyfriend.
