i'm not an SF6 fan by any means, i play it super casually, i think DR would be fine if it didn't give additional advantage. i tried COTW, air parry can go fuck itself, the DI wannabe mechanic can go fuck itself but it can especially fuck itself considering i also need to be in SPG to DI back. MOTW sucks and COTW is just MOTW x SF6.

JDs are like a parry but they also work as an extension of regular blocking. I like that about them. That's why I like a lot of things about Garou, it's got all this unique systems-oriented shit but all of it builds on your ordinary neutral at the end of the day instead of rewriting the book on it like so many games do. It means you can play it like a regular-ass fighting game semi-effectively and organically build on the way you play it as you gain better knowledge of the systems.

- how to use your lows effectively
- sidestepping and sidewalking

- crouch cancelling

1. they were making a huge stink about T7 during T7 lifespan. T8 is just that much dumber at high level. If you're just beginning the serie, the low level battleground will be the same monkey business
2. they're not that different, the same principles applies to every fighting games, and you can just treat a sidestep as a jump. the only real thing that can fuck with your muscle memory would be the fact the default guard is the standing one

I can't understand what a casual actually thinks like but they watch pro gameplay and think everybody and their mother plays like that online instead of understanding that 98% of a fighting game's population simply CANNOT play like the pros.

You know what I honest-to-God think has a lot to do with it? The underselling and even shaming of singleplayer content. Look, I don't know what it's worth in the grand scale, alright, but I've played nothing but AI in CotW since the betas, and I played my friend the other day and won both sets. It could be that the game is systems-heavy enough that you get legitimate practice with stuff like JDs, guard cancels, et al to get legitimate practice with them. But I've played games where I practiced first playing singleplayer at least to know what my moves are and their general applications and it was beneficial to playing real people after. But there's a lot of rhetoric in fighting games that this only fosters "bad habits," like you're only ever going to be cheesing the CPU or something. Sure, when it gets REALLY hard, that's all you CAN do, but that doesn't mean that's what it's all like.

I wouldn't say it's only bad habits, you still get good practice with aspects like input execution and on the higher levels of CotW, what moves are unsafe and what is fake pressure when going up against the AI. But I think the main detraction is the fact that the AI is not a human, thus you don't get any practice on the finer details of fighting another person. Like you can't mix-up the AI, you can't condition the AI, you don't learn how to defend against pressue, etc.
Even without the cheese, I think it's always a negative in the long run to put most of your time into fighting the AI. With the exception of something like KI's Kyle difficulty (adaptive AI) or CotW's Clone battle (mirroring the actions of real players).

Just in terms of things unique to CotW?

Baiting an anti-air into a guard cancel divekick special

Shutting down Rev Blows with a high crush

Using Rev Accel to turn an unsafe blockstring into a safe one

Remembering that Rev Guard exists

Winning with Tizoc

Knowing how to do all 3 taunts

I kinda want to record some AI gameplay footage so anons can weigh in on what it looks like compared to two real people fighting. Think it'd be interesting. It definitely has its holes though. It never mixes up its AA options and will go for full animation JD bait uppercut every time.

When you eat or take a shit or commute you can watch guides on YouTube, follow streamers that main your guy and learn to do what they do (i.e. using powerful attacks with plus on block, creating setups, using wall pressure etc).

Mai will do input read 5D and one-hit confirm into hidden gear like she doesn't give a flying fuck. But I'm glad. There are lots of defensive options between just defense, hyper defense and dodge moves (a universal overhead and anti-air), and even the now obligatory hyper armor turn-stealing mechanic that is in every new fighting game is well implemented.
It’s a very fun game. Roster could be better, but there’s already a lot of variety there.

I was just thinking watching Granblue earlier how stilted and awkward the animations look. Yeah, individual poses might have some fluid detail here and there, but overall it was extremely choppy. I swear anime players are reading visual effects more than the actual characters.

Terry hasn't ever really been good in any game except for XV at launch. Unless it turns out he's actually gawd in COTW secretly.

In the case of Kain and Vox, they're only antiheroes for the particular story of CotW since the main objective is getting Rock's mom/Kain's sister back. The unlockable EOST conversation with Kain and Rock makes it clear that the former still wants his "ideal world" and that the latter completely opposes it. If there's another Fatal Fury game (and granted Krauser doesn't switch things up if/when he returns) the plot for the next game is obviously being set up as Rock vs. Kain for control of the future of South Town.

Billy on the other hand has always been pic, also iirc The Howard Connection (mostly) isn't an evil organization and was actually a net positive for South Town as it kept a lot of shit in check. It's just that Geese was a massive cunt that killed the father of the franchise protag so FF's first main plotline revolved around personal revenge. Even Terry straight up says that he has nothing against Billy, any beef was specifically with Geese only.

Its worth enough revisiting from time to time for those reasons but as a overall package I do not find it nearly as engrossing as their past releases like BBCF and XRD that never seem to get old. Even the more offshoot releases like hokuto no ken and persona 4 arena ultimax are more immediately appealing when brainstorming a lineup for game night.
I can vouch Its a great game to break in friends to the genre as their first set of training wheels but after that it just gets dull.

Maybe it makes me an ill fit to take part in this conversation, but I dropped that game after like three months. I play a match and it all feels like the same shit. I watch a match and it all looks like the same shit. It's weird because I WAS mad hype, enjoyed the betas a ton, thought I was having a blast at first. And it isn't like I started hating the game or anything. It's just.....bland.

desu I called low forward drive rush being the new low forward fireball all the way back then, lol. But there was novelty and the ease of its use is great to start...but then it gets old and you're tired of dealing with it all the time. It's like nobody uses drive rush distinctly from someone else, it has the same utility and effect. far cry from V-triggers which were extremely distinct and varied even if I hated them being a comeback mechanic.

I mean triggers are just 3s supers basically and they are mostly back in the form of lvl 2 supers in 6.
but yeah the universal mechanics of 5 made characters more unique, while the ones of 6 just homogenize hard.
