I'm so fucking happy I survived this enemy phase and get to keep all the good levels I got so far on the map. Thank you Marth, for dodging two fatal javelins that I shouldn't have had to expose you to in the first place. As I'm nearing the end of this game, I must say I'm not going to miss the high % misses or the godawful item management. I will miss some of these units though, they've become real behemoths. Cain is really crazy, near-cap in every stat. Est is blowing up fast and I haven't even promoted her yet. Caeda's good, but she needed two power rings and still hits a bit light. Linde ended up becoming surprisingly tanky, but it's annoying that she loses her sexy sprite on promo. Midia has been fairly... mid stat-wise, but she's cute so I don't mind.

The entire Brawler line? A new weapon with a new class line with "new" mechanics.
I have a fondness for the gish classes the Wolves brought in but they're both knock-offs of Awakening classes.
They could and should have expanded on the Master Class list. Give us Trueblade because Mortal Savant is absolute shit and Marshall so armours (which are bad outside of their stat boosts) have somewhere to go that isn't GK which is also a bad class. I'd argue for Halberdier/Sentinel but that's Dimi's schtick.

Similarly you can give a Myrmidon or Archer (but not mages or fliers whilte they're flying) Gauntlets and get similar results.

You can go brawler and not use gauntlets, and you can also not go brawler and still use gauntlets. From that perspective, the only "unique" part about the classline are skills and stats.

You can use them, that's the point of Three Houses. A Brawler, like all physical infantry classes in Three Houses, can use any physical weapon in combat, including those weapons' combat arts and benefit from Weapon Prowess skills. The typical incentive to not do this is increased weapon EXP gain for the classes' particular weapon which makes it easier to progress down the class line and get things like stronger combat arts and Weaponfaire skills that boost damage.
And combat arts. Swordmasters get Astra, Grapplers get Fierce Iron Fist, Snipers get Hunter's Volley and I'm sure there are other examples.
